Product Description
Fundamentals of Natural Gas Processing explores the natural gas industry from the wellhead to the marketplace. It compiles information from the open literature, meeting proceedings, and experts to accurately depict the state of gas processing technology today and highlight technologies that could become important in the future.

This book covers advantages, limitations, and ranges of applicability of major gas plant processes to provide a sound understanding from system fundamentals to selection, operation, and integration into the overall gas plant. It also describes the major operations involved in bringing the gas to the plant, information not usually discussed in most gas processing books. Comprehensive chapters cover field operations, inlet receiving, compression, dehydration, hydrocarbon recovery, nitrogen rejection, liquids processing, sulfur recovery, and the increasingly popular liquefied natural gas industry, focusing on liquefaction, storage, and transportation. The book also discusses plant economics, offering ways to make initial cost estimates of selected processes and determine capital costs of gas processing facilities.

The descriptive approach in Fundamentals of Natural Gas Processing makes this comprehensive text and reference well suited for both technical and non-technical personnel in the industry including chemical or mechanical engineers, plant engineers, students, and those who are new to the field. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Textbook Ever!
This is the worst textbook ever published. The content is not addressed in a clear manner, the calcuations are poorly discussed, if at all, and not even accurate sometimes. The questions often cover differing chapters than their location and most disturbing is the lack of accuracy!!!The book wasn't even spell-checked, let alone read for consistancy and accuracy! It is thoughtless to use this as a textbook ... it's more of a guessing game than information.

1-0 out of 5 stars Mechanical and Electrical Systems in Buildings (3rd Edition)
This book is terrible. If you are a certified HVAC specialist, it is for you. However, if you are new to this then it is a total waste of money. Explanation is bad, example are nowhere relate to the section discussed. And worst of all, there is no answer keys. You will not have a clue if you are correct or not. Every chapter there are as least half of the review question are calculations, yet in each chapter there will be probably one page showing how calculation is done. Example one of the simplest thing:
COP = Cooling Effect / Power Input. If you look up the index, you cannot find the word "cooling effect", find out whichever chapter they discuss, or show you how to calculate the "cooling effect".
You are in luck if you do not have class that uses this book. You have bad luck if you have a "good" teacher that using this book. You are doom if you have a "bad" teacher who using this book, might as well drop it. Waste of time and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mechanical and Electrical Systems in Buildings, 2nd
Very good book. Helps you understand the systems inside (and outside) of buildings in use everyday that most folks don't have a clue about. If you are interested in understanding how your building equipment functions this is a good book for you. Down to earth and well written. Recommend to property management personnel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for newbies!
If ur stepping into the building services industry, this book will be a comprehensive packaged info for your reading pleasure. Includes lotsa real-life diagrams, plan routings, concepts and explanation. It's 4am over here in Singapore and I've just finished reading one of the topics, just imagine how attractive the contents this book has! However, the only and regretable drawback is: the units are empirical which make it very difficult for me for in my country, we use SI metric units. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but ultimately not useful enough
Although this book is interesting, I have been very disappointed by it.
The printing quality is very low, printed on crappy paper and only in black and white.it looks like it has been photocopied on a low quality photocopier.I would expect a lot better for a $140 textbook.Printing quality aside, the book, although well written has very little use for machine design and many other areas, often missing critical features.I understand that it is only meant as a quick guide, but it does not have nearly enough detail to solve practical problems.
It may have been a good book to have during uni as a quick low level learning tool, solving purely theoretical problems, but in real world situations it does not suffice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Succinct and valuable book
I'd recommend this book for anyone ranging from students to the working class. Am currently a student and was very pleasantly surprised to find valuable nuggets of information inside the book. Covers thermodynamics, fluid, vibration, heat transfer and probably just about anything a mechanical engineer/engineering student wants to know about.

5-0 out of 5 stars A quick reference to solve everyday problems in Mechanical Engineering
Practical solutions for mechanical engineers should have been the title of this book. The book is full of fundamental information, principles, quick calculations methods, illustrations, and diagrams, that will save the industrial practitioner valuable time.

If you travel for work always take this handy reference with you. I believe this book will also be useful for the student of Mechanical Engineering.

I own this book, as well as Carl. Branan "Rules of Thumb for Chemical Engineers". If you work in the process industries, these two books will proof to be an invaluable aid to analyze and solve operational problems that affect process equipment performance.

1-0 out of 5 stars Better study guides are available.
I purchased the guide to help me study for the PE.This book is divided into several chapters, each covering a different area of mechanical engineering. The chapters were written by various contributing authors. Although some of the chapters were helpful in my studies, overall I wasvery disappointed with the book. There are numerous errors in the formulasand example problems which can lead to a lot of time wasted on figuring outwhy your answer does not agree with theirs. For example, a good deal ofthe text from a chapter on kinematics and dynamics of machinery came fromNorton's book Design of Machinery. However, the PE review author did notcopy some of the equations correctly.Fortunately, I had both books so Icould find the discrepancy with a minimum of wasted time.

Anotherdisappointment was the chapter on control systems. Most of the chaptershad several example problems so that you could see how to solve them. However, the control systems had only three problems, two of which were onhow to find transfer functions. The information in the chapter wasdifficult to follow and instead I relied on my undergraduate books.

Alsodisappointing was that the answers to the problems from each chapter werein a separate book. The author claims that this was done so that you couldbring the review book into the exam with you. However, to the best of myknowledge, in every state you are allowed to bring any material that youwish with you to the exam.

A better option for a review book would beMechanical Engineering Reference Manual for the Pe Exam : For the Pe Examby Michael R. Lindeburg. This title is available from Amazon.com.

Nomater which book you choose, in the end you need to study pretty hard topass this exam.Good luck with your studies. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars MEEB like this...
This book is an endless supply of knowledge... Too much for my brain.
Organized very well. User friendly. Easy to follow.

3-0 out of 5 stars Heavy - literally and figuratively
Densely written and way more detailed than we needed for our class in Architecture school. Not easy to read but if you need all the details of HVAC systems including every calculation you need, it's the right book. I've recommended that our prof choose a different book in the future as there are better ones for architecture students who don't need the full mech engineering detail.

5-0 out of 5 stars I simply loved it

5-0 out of 5 stars More then the title suggests
I have been referencing past editions of this book for years. It's the bible to architects for understanding this subject matter. It covers more then the title suggests including overall design strategy for site and building, passive design for the building environment, acoustics, illumination and day-lighting, water conservations systems, vertical building transportation systems and design, fire protection and suppression design, along with the active mechanical and electrical systems design and equipment technology that the title suggests. It is one of the core reference books for the architect's library and others related to building construction. This new addition updates to the latest technology, and sustainable design practices. Another great book for passive design related to building arrangement and form is Sun, Wind & Light: Architectural Design Strategies, 2nd Edition

4-0 out of 5 stars It is a good book, but I don't find myself using it.
It's true, all the equations are here, but since I used the big book (Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual for the PE Exam) for all the studying, I find it easier simply to look back at that book for the equations. I suppose that if I learn all the things in the big book well enough that I don't need it, that this would be a good, handy, quick reference, but I just don't find myself using it. The big book is all I need.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing review material.
I also bought this book as part of my review materials for the PEexam thinking that it would be a comprehensive summary of the equations used in each chapter. It is not.Maybe 20% of the material is provided.I didn't even bring it with me to the exam. You're better off making your own review sheets and spending your money on tabs for the Reference Manual (which is VERY good).

Product Description
While some automatic navigation systems can use external measurements to determine their position (as the driver of a car uses road signs, or more recent automated systems use satellite data), others (such as those used in submarines) cannot. They must rely instead on internal measurements of the acceleration to determine their speed and position. Such inertial guidance systems have been in use since Word War II, and modern navigation would be impossible without them. This book describes the inertial technology used for guidance, control, and navigation, discussing in detail the principles, operation, and design of sensors, gyroscopes, and accelerometers, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of particular systems. An engineer with long practical experience in the field, the author elucidates the most recent developments in inertial guidance. Among these are fiber-optic gyroscopes, solid-state accelerometers, and the Global Positioning System. The book should be of interest to researchers and practicing engineers involved in systems engineering, aeronautics, space research, and navigation on land and on sea. This second edition has been brought up to date throughout, and includes new material on micromachined gyroscopes. ... Read more

Customer Reviews (3)

3-0 out of 5 stars Good overview, but not detailed
This is a good overview to hand a beginning avionics or flight controls engineer who needs to get familiar with the very basic principles of inertial nav. Good coverage of various types of instruments, but many of the designs covered are outdated and of little use in modern design work. Given the paucity of works in this field, I welcomed it as an introductory text, but you could not perform any serious trade studies for a real design with only the knowledge in this book. It doesn't cover GPS in any depth, or the important topic of GPS/INS blending. Other topics missing are a good intro to optical gyros (Sagnac effect) and the overall integration of nav systems (steering modes, landing systems, cooperative nav, effects on weapons delivery, and so on). Still, for the money, I would recommend it to a neophyte who has some extra cash...you have to start somewhere!

3-0 out of 5 stars Modern Inertial Technology
This book has the potential of being extremely useful; certainly it is an ambitions book. In the discussions of the mechanical gyros the disertation flows fairly well. However, once into the optical gyros, the result is just about worthless. The Sagnac Effect is the basis for all optical gyros such as the ring laser and the fibre optic gyro. The discussion of this effect is just about useless. It is virtually impossible to see how one equation follows from the preceding equation. The fringe shift from two interfering beams which rotate in opposite direction is the basis of all optical gyros, but the discussion in Lawrence's book is little more than hand waving. In other words, if the reader has a background in optical physics, then the discussion makes some sense. However, the book must be judged upon its own merits and here I think it fails miserably. So I would recommend the book for the discussion of mechanical gyros but as an introduction to optical gyros I would recommend that the reader look elsewhere.

3-0 out of 5 stars A modern source in a modest body of literature
The technology in the field is quite advanced, and the research is particulary active and in costant evolution. Producing a comprehensive reference is quite difficult but the author delivers clearly the advantages and disadvantages of each system analyzed in the book. As a guide, the work has neatly reached its goal, since it delivers a clear picture of the current state of art and the trend of each system development. In fact the author is covering every subject quite extensively without the dispersion of innumerable specific technical papers, which are, of course, much more detailed but far from comprehending the scope of the whole field.

The only point is the mathematical level, that is maybe too simplefor engineers and scientists, and a little bit complicated for the average pilot, one of the most interested user in the field. ... Read more

Product Description
The seventh edition of "Mechanical Engineering Design" marks a return to the basic approaches that have made this book the standard in machine design for over 40 years. At the same time, the textbook has been significantly updated and modernized for today's engineering students and professional engineers. Working from extensive market research and reviews of the 6/e, the new 7/e features reduced coverage of uncertainty and statistical methods. Statistics is now treated (in chapter 2) as one of several methods available to design engineers, and statistical applications are no longer integrated throughout the text, examples and problem sets. Other major changes include updated coverage of the design process, streamlined coverage of statistics, a more practical overview of materials and materials selection (moved to chapter 3), revised coverage of failure and fatigue, and review of basic strength of materials topics to make a clearer link with prerequisite courses. Overall coverage of basic concepts has been made more clear and concise, with some advanced topics deleted, so that readers can easily navigate key topics.Problem sets have been improved, with new problems added to help students progressively work through them. The book has an Online Learning Center with several powerful components: MATLAB for Machine Design (featuring highly visual MATLAB simulations and accompanying source code); the "FEPC" finite element program, with accompanying Finite Element Primer and FEM Tutorials; interactive FE Exam questions for Machine Design; and Machine Design Tutorials for study of key concepts from Parts I and II of the text. Complete Problem Solutions and PowerPoint slides of book illustrations are available for instructors, under password protection. 5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
It is very much in line with the actual test. People may judge the same test differently. Tests taken at different time also vary greatly. By the time I feel the sample test is not so hard, I passed the PE exam easily.
Bottom line, it's very helpful. It's a must for PE exam. I'd suggest you buy a used one in good condition (runs anywhere between $40 - $55). New one will cost you [...] plus shipping. You may sell it to others after you have passed your test. If lucky, you may get all your money back.

1-0 out of 5 stars No a representative sample
Like others have said, this sample examination is not representative of the actual exam. It is far too difficult. I took this sample exam two weeks prior to the real test when I was finished reviewing every topic. I think my score was something like 42 of 80 correct and I was very short on time during the morning section. I don't have the results yet for the real exam, but I would be surprised if I didn't get 60+ questions correct (I knew how to solve all but a few) and I had plenty of time to go back and check answers.

The main review book by the same author is a good book (I would highly recommend that), but don't get this sample exam. The only thing it was good for was completely scaring me two weeks prior to the real exam.

2-0 out of 5 stars Buy the NCEES "Practice Exam" instead
If you're looking for a realistic practice test, buy the "Sample Questions & Solutions" published by NCEES PE Mechanical Sample Questions and Solutions Book; it is very similar to the real exam.Just like the rest of Lindeburg's review material, this is definitely a higher level of difficulty than the real test.Certainly does not live up to the cover page billing of, "The most realistic practice you can get for the mechanical PE exam."

3-0 out of 5 stars Inefficient
Studying for the PE for most people is about using time wisely.I found this practice exam to be challenging, very time consuming, and while I learned a good deal, much of it was on theories, solutions, and subjects that won't show up on the exams.I found the NCEES practice exams to be of much better help since they were much more in line with the actual exam subject material. While it took me an average of about 5 mins to finish the NCEES practice problems, I found myself spending at the very min 5 mins on each problem up to close to 25 mins on this practice test.If you have spare time to kill before your exam like I did, then it can never hurt to look at this.Just don't fret when you are going through it, just keep in mind it is much more difficult than the actual examination.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not worth it
I was looking for a good practice test for the PE and I previously used Lindeburg's book for the FE test and was happy with it... but this one let me down. The problems are a little rediculous for something that is supposed to be solved in 6 minutes.I'd recommend the book by NCEES, it seems much more realistic. ... The Mechanical Engineering Handbook provides extensive coverage on the fundamental topics and emerging issues involved in mechanical engineering, from the structure of solids to virtual reality.

Each chapter has a detailed table of contents, most contain graphs, figures, references, and a bibliography to aid the reader's comprehension.

Several chapters in this handbook were found to be particularly engaging: "What the Law Requires of an Engineer" provides examples and case studies to clarify topics such as hazard analysis; and, "Electronic Information Resources: Your On-line Bookshelf," discusses why tapping into technical information can help engineers avoid mistakes.

The final section of the handbook, "Management, Finance, Quality, Law, and Research," strays from the traditional ideas of a professional desk reference. It deals with a variety of topics not dealt with in similar works. For example, the chapter "Managing People" explains motivation and barriers to team performance.

1-0 out of 5 stars Book Review
The book itself is very simple and covers topics in statics. Some of the content could be expanded a little more because it is just too plain. As for the book itself, i bought it used and the seller sent a book with a billion stickers(exaggerating here but you get my point).Definitely not what i expected to get.Unfortunately I need the book so no time to return and fix.Not as happy as I expected to be.Bought used books in the past with a sticker or two but not as many as this one had.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the primary text in English for Optomechanical design.
Now in its 3rd, 2006 Edition, this carefully researched and exhaustively foot noted text, has been kept current with many references to challenging programs of recent years. These include the Chandra, GALEX and Spitzer space telescopes at the high end, and humble military binoculars at the other. At over 850 pages in length and around 1.6 kilograms in weight the treatment is nothing if not extensive. Comprehensive and readable, the work is acknowledged my many in the field as being the place to start for serious work in the design of mechanicanism, kinematics and structures for assembling instruments with optical elements or equivalent fine scale motion. ...
