Product Description
Introduction to Petroleum Seismology provides the basic theoretical and practical background needed to tackle present and future challenges of petroleum seismology, especially those related to seismic data acquisition and imaging and to reservoir characterization and monitoring. The first part of the book evolves from first principles of physics to the fundamentals of elastodynamic wave propagation, the building blocks for seismic analysis. The second part discusses modern developments in petroleum seismology such as multicomponent data, multiple elimination, amplitude variation with offset and azimuth analysis and inversion, anisotropy, and linear anelasticity. Aspects of Fourier and wavelet representations of seismic signals and the fundamentals of higher-order statistics for analyzing seismic signals also are treated. The comprehensiveness of this book makes it a suitable text for undergraduate and graduate courses that target geophysicists and engineers as well as a guide and reference work for researchers and professionals in academia and in the petroleum industry. The book is illustrated with color figures and provides a wide range of examples and problems.

Product Description
The world as we have known it for the past century would have been very different without petroleum. Petroleum, particularly in the form of crude oil and its refined products, has been central to all aspects of modern industrial society and has been a major strategic geopolitical objective for nations. The 20th century was the age of oil, and at least part of the 21st century will be as well. Petroleum is used as an energy source and as a raw material for the production of an immense variety of chemicals and synthetic materials. Almost all the world's food relies on petroleum for fertilizer, pesticides, cultivation, or transport. Petroleum has been particularly dominant as a source of transportation fuels, an application for which cost-effective substitutes will be especially difficult to find. The A to Z of the Petroleum Industry presents a concise but complete one-volume reference on the history of the petroleum industry from pre-modern times to the present day. This is done through a chronology, an introductory essay, and over 400 cross-referenced dictionary entries on companies, people, places, events, technologies, and phenomena related to the history of the world's petroleum industry. Anyone interested in the history, status, and outlook for the petroleum industry will find this book a uniquely valuable source. ... Read more

Product Description
Petroleum exhibits a wide range of physical properties. Numerous tests have been and continue to be developed to provide an indication of the means by which a particular feedstock should be processed. An initial inspection of the nature of petroleum provides deductions about the most logical means of refining and classifying. Handbook of Petroleum Analysis is a single, comprehensive source that describes the application and interpretation of data resulting from various test methods for petroleum feedstocks and products.

The need for the application of analytical techniques to petroleum has increased over the past three decades due to changes in feedstock composition. Handbook of Petroleum Analysis deals with the various aspects of petroleum analysis while providing a detailed explanation of the necessary standard tests and procedures that are applicable to feedstocks. The material also reviews the application of new methods for determining instability and incompatibility, focusing on the analytical methods related to environmental regulations. Most importantly, the book provides details of the meanings of the various test results and how they might be applied to predict feedstock behavior. Where pertinent, new tests that are not yet accepted as standardized are described.

Topics covered in Handbook of Petroleum Analysis include:

- Chemical composition
- Physical, thermal, electrical, and optical property testing methods
- Spectroscopic, chemical, fractionation, and chromatographic methods
- Molecular weight
- Use of the data (i.e., mapping and predictability)

Handbook of Petroleum Analysis promotes a better understanding of the criteria affecting the quality of petroleum and petroleum products and is a valuable resource for chemists and engineers in the refining industry. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the only real book on the subject out there

This is a serious guide to investing in oil and gas properties with real world examples.
The author really knows the subject and presents it in a clear no nonsense fashion.
I would like to have seen more detail on shutin costs and the data is slightly dated but the formulas are there and can be adjusted for todays prices.

This is the only real book on the subject out there.

If an update came out I would buy it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new in here
Luckily I did not pay this book. It was in my company's library. I'm sorry for the time I lost reading it. Maybe the acquisition of Petroleum Property is REALLY different in Latin America, but there was no useful information or ideas in this book. ... Read more

Product Description
This down-to-earth text gives you an edge in open-hole well log interpretation - access to the insight analysts gain from years of experience. Log analysis is a peculiar blend of art and science, requiring the ability to piece the clues provided by each log into the "big picture." That ability comes with experience and training - the kind of step-by-step training this book provides.

Starting with the fundamentals, the book takes you through the study of individual curves on the log and the development of a complete picture to a study of supplementary curves and advanced methods of analysis. By providing a thorough working knowledge of the factors involved in log interpretation - porosity, permeability, resistivity, etc. - the book helps you better understand the assumptions and limitations of analysis that service companies seldom report. In addition, illustrated procedures guide you through each subject, and sample exercises at the end of each chapter give students an opportunity to test their knowledge.

Logs only supply numbers. It takes insight to interpret those numbers correctly and to know which methods work in various situations. Such expertise can mean the difference between making money and losing it. This book gives you that expertise.

Starting with the fundamentals, this text studies individual curves on the log and explains supplementary curves and advanced methods of analysis. ... Read more
