5-0 out of 5 stars A safe and professional instruction manual
Tom Peregrin is highly respected in the pyrotechnical field as a knowledgeable and safe operator. This book is indispensable for either the novice or the more advanced pyrotechnician. If you can only afford to buy one book on pyrotechnics, you should start with this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well thought Out!
From the novice point of view, I would rank this as one of the finest books on pyrotechnics.
Let me give an example. Have you ever been in an advanced math course in some school, and you couldn't remember a formula you needed to solve the equation because it was an equation you have not had to use for 5 years or so? The term "building block" in what I am trying to get to. Obviously, this formula, or building block, had not been implanted firmly enough for you to recall it at a later date when needed. Or it could be that you never bothered learning that one "building block" because you had no use for it at the time it was being taught. Regardless, that describes this book extremely well. It covers the basic steps every would be hobbyist will need.
The main focus of this book is exactly what it states...Introductory. The Author leads the would be hobbyist slowly through many important steps left too vague in many other text. The book also guides the would be hobbyist through the basic fundamental science, or theory, of how pyrotechnics work without being too cumbersome. Clearly not a definitive guide on all areas of pyrotechnics, the author guides the reader to other text for better understanding and further study. In this book, however, that is not a weakness.
This book doesn't have all the answers, just all the answers that matter. It is the most complete guide ever written for the beginner. Don't feel bad. We have all been there.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome for begginers
This book is awesome for begginers. It covers safety and equipment that is necessary to make homemade fireworks. It walks you through begginer projects and then on to advanced projects. All of the projects require something that you created or learned in an earlier project. It takes you from making black powder up to making arial shells. It doesn't use any pyrotechnics lingo so someone like me who is a novice can understand and follow along without any confusion. The book was published by skylighter.com where you can purchase everything that is used in the book.

Product Description
On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners focusing on fireworks, signaling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles in Italy face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying fireworks, signaling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles to Italy? How important is Italy compared to others in terms of the entire global and regional market? How much do the imports of fireworks, signaling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles vary from one country of origin to another in Italy? On the supply side, Italy also exports fireworks, signaling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles. Which countries receive the most exports from Italy? How are these exports concentrated across buyers? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers?

This report was created for strategic planners, international marketing executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for fireworks, signaling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles in Italy. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics which appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for fireworks, signaling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles for those countries serving Italy via exports, or supplying from Italy via imports. It does so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models.

In what follows, Chapter 2 begins by summarizing where Italy fits into the world market for imported and exported fireworks, signaling flares, rain rockets, fog signals and other pyrotechnic articles. The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, ... Read more

The total level of imports and exports on a worldwide basis, and those for Germany in particular, is estimated using a model which aggregates across over 150 key country markets and projects these to the current year. From there, each country represents a percent of the world market. This market is served from a number of competitive countries of origin. Based on both demand- and supply-side dynamics, market shares by country of origin are then calculated across each country market destination. These shares lead to a volume of import and export values for each country and are aggregated to regional and world totals. In doing so, we are able to obtain maximum likelihood estimates of both the value of each market and the share that Germany is likely to receive this year. From these figures, rankings are calculated to allow managers to prioritize Germany compared to other major country markets. In this way, all the figures provided in this report are forecasts that can be combined with internal information sources for strategic planning purposes. ... Read more

Excerpt:Barium carbonate Barium carbonate (Ba CO 3), also known as witherite , is a chemical compound used in rat poison , bricks , ceramic glazes and cement . Witherite crystallizes in the orthorhombic system. The crystals are invariably twinned together in groups of three, giving rise to pseudo-hexagonal forms somewhat resembling bipyramidal crystals of quartz , the faces are usually rough and striated horizontally. The mineral is named after William Withering , who in 1784 recognized it to be chemically distinct from barytes . It occurs in veins of lead ore at Hexham in Northumberland , Alston in Cumbria , Anglezarke , near Chorley in Lancashire and a few other localities. Witherite is readily altered to barium sulfate by the action of water containing calcium sulfate in solution and crystals are therefore frequently encrusted with barytes . It is the chief source of barium salts and is mined in considerable amounts in Northumberland. It is used for the preparation of rat poison, in the manufacture of glass and porcelain , and formerly for refining sugar . It is also used for controlling the chromate to sulfate ratio in chromium electroplating baths. Preparation Barium carbonate is made commercially from barium sulfide either by treatment with sodium carbonate at 60 to 70 °C (soda ash method) or by passing carbon dioxide at 40 to 90 °C. In the soda ash process, sol... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Wrong Publisher!
Not sure where Amazon got the idea that JoP might be the publisher of this book. It's actually from MP Associates. JoP specializes in cheap, photocopied print-on-demand stuff. Do not be deceived. This book is not like that; it's a very high-quality item of great historical value. If you appreciate or have an interest in the history of fireworks, this book is for you.

5 stars, but they don't go to the Kosankes (proprietors of JoP). ... Read more
