4-0 out of 5 stars Good book, a bit damaged delivery
Book is great, a true manual for people who are passionate for Quality, like me.
The problem is, because I live far away (Brazil), the book reached me pretty damaged (small wraps on cover and apparently it got wet somewhere along the way).

5-0 out of 5 stars Sixth Edition continues the tradition of excellence!
Composing a new edition of a time honored classic reference always risks unfavorable comparisons with the previous editions. The Juran team has risen well to the challenge and composed a fresh, informative, and useful reference not only for Quality Professionals but for everyone with an interest in the quality of their products and services. The structure of the book makes it easy to zoom in on the Key Concepts (section 1), Methods and Tools (section 2), specific Applications for six different industry types (section 3), and the Quality role of Key Functions within the organization (section 4). The book extends on the idea presented in previous editions that Quality (what is called "big Q") is not just the responsibility of the quality professionals and doesn't just apply to the production processes of an organization; rather, it applies broadly to all functions and aspects of a business.

Juran's Quality Handbook: The Complete Guide to Performance Excellence (Sixth Edition) is definitely a book you should have on your reference shelf!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great examples!!
The new quality handbook is a fantastic reference to all things quality .I have utilized previous versions of the handbook for years in both my personal development and learning as well as the training of others.

What I like about the new version is that it's a little more direct with the information and packed full of relevant examples. It continues to build upon the proven quality theory and methods while displaying how they apply to modern day issues faced in a variety of industries. This version also includes some exciting new concepts that look at the future of the quality industry, particularly EcoQuality, a must read chapter!

5-0 out of 5 stars Time Honored Gold Mine!
This book is a time-honored gold mine! In an era when the global business market has fallen short in the arena of quality and integrity, the Sixth Edition of Juran's Quality Handbook is a welcomed just in time resource packed with principles that can facilitate the business world's ability to remember and revive the fundamentals that once made businesses and our economy strong. This book contains a wealth of knowledge for those who want to truly understand how do business the "RIGHT WAY" with integrity and quality at the helm.

5-0 out of 5 stars a must read for all quality leaders!
The handbook is a great update from previous editions. New chapters cover benchmarking, Six Sigma, Lean, and Ecoquality as well as chapters that break down quality challenges and solutions by industry. Many of the chapters are written by Juran consultants who specialize in a particular industry and offer their insight from their experience working with clients. Information is relevant to the current issues facing leaders today. I would recommend the handbook to anyone interested or with a background in Lean or Six Sigma or a quality leader in any industry! ... Read more

Product Description
Forensic Engineering Investigation is a compendium of the investigative methodologies used by engineers and scientific investigators to evaluate some of the more common types of failures and catastrophic events. In essence, the book provides analyses and methods for determining how an entity was damaged and when that damage may have legal consequences. The material covers 21 common types of failures, catastrophic events, and losses that forensic engineers routinely assess. The range of topics include wind and blasting damage to structures, vehicular accidents, fires, explosions, hail damage to roofs and exteriors, lighting damage, and industrial guarding accidents.Additionally, the book offers an extensive discussion of the scientific method as it applies to forensic science and provides tips on organizing and writing an investigative report. The book also supplies the applicable codes and standards that regulate the profession, discusses the role of the forensic engineer in court proceedings, and addresses the role management plays in industrial safety. Each chapter is self-contained, highly specific, and succinct. Even more important, the analysis in each chapter is tailored to the answering of questions usually posed in the particular circumstances under discussion. The author does not skimp on the mathematical and scientific underpinnings of the subject matter. In that sense, Forensic Engineering Investigation contains the "good stuff" that is typically omitted in less challenging texts. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for college classes
This is a different book from the hardcover version. We did a quick comparison with the regular textbook and some of the questions were different. This will make it very difficult to complete assignments. At the bottom of the cover it says this is the International Version. Also, it states in large print "this book is not to be sold in the US".

4-0 out of 5 stars Statistical Quality Control
Shipped and received as expected. Book is in same condition as stated. No problems with the transaction.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Introduction for Those with Little Background
If you want to take your knowledge of statistics and see how it is applied in the arena of Statistical Process Control (SPC) this book is a great place to start. A prior background in statistics will be very helpful in understanding the underlying concepts. A more basic introduction to some of the underlying distributions discussed may help the concepts make more sense. Overall, the text seems quite comprehensive in its coverage of SPC. It should give a newcomer to the field a firm foundation for further exploration.

2-0 out of 5 stars was an "accpetable" category - not a "good" one as mentioned
this book was much used then I expected.. did got marks with even a ball pen. pencil was ok.. was not mentioned in the ad. it was advertized as a "goood" or "very good" condition, which was not true.

also the seller was a slow responsive to the email enquiry when I asked for the status of the shipment. though the book was almost on time.. but did not have any tracking #.

3-0 out of 5 stars not for sale in the US
If you are buying this book for a class, don't. this book has different problems than the hardcover. I thought i was saving some cash by getting the softcover becuase it is advertised as the same as the hardcover, while content wise it is, it is not coursework wise. I am reposting mine for sale. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best in Field (Pun Intended)
If you only buy one book on the application of statistics and probability to the creation of control charts (SPC) and acceptance sampling, this is it.Dale wrote the original first text on SPC back when the only literature on the subject was found in periodicals and research papers. It took him over 3000 manhours to write this concise text and it's bank of clear, understandable problems. The text earned him the title of full Professor at Southern Illinois University and a national reputation as it was used by Ford Motor Company and others for internal training. After teaching from it for almost 20 years I can assure you there is no better book on the subject in the field.(And, yes, I know Dale personally, but have had virtually no contact with him since his retirement many years ago).

5-0 out of 5 stars A towering reference text!
Besterfield made a true tour de force respect the edition and contain of Quality Control. It provides you of abundant and concise information, explicit and deatiled around the last innovations and advances in this field.

More than a tool, this book is a must for you; in your daily job, as consult text, as fundamental reference for students and an invaluable supporting guide for teachers and professionals.

One of the most remarkable texts written in years. A monumental issue without any doubt. Go for it and you will be absolutely rewarded.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quality on Quality
This is a professional's book! It covers quality control at the level that you need -- whether a novice in the field or an experienced professional. It does an excellent job of interrelating all of the aspects of quality control, while letting you focus on the topic at hand; you never feel that you are "out of place" in the process. This book is so good that we are going to use it as the reference/source for our training programs that cover not only quality control but quality control's relationship with other aspects of operations management and program management. I have even incorporated it into an undergraduate course I teach on quality management and productivity. There's something in it for every technical professional in the workplace today. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A great book on the concept of experimental design
I bought this book 10 years, and find myself glued to it as I prepare a training course for my people on design of experiments in Minitab. They have really easy to understand explanation of important aspects of experiments, a nice templatee for setting up an experiment that I have used for years, and great explanations on factorial designs, the theories on reducing the size of experiments. The book also covers nested designs for isolating the cause of variation in your samples. I quote this book in so many places.

This book emphasizes a graphical analysis of data, omitting the details of the statistics. And you know, it is important to look at things graphically before running the statistics. Unfortunately, the book does not cover much on response surface designs, and very little on mixture designs. Overall, a great book that is well highlighted, still being looked at 10 years after i bought it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good but old fashioned
This book had done good efforts but currently Tagchi approach will better to get quick answer for decision making.

4-0 out of 5 stars A serious book for quality practitioners

Product Description

The performance of a product, a system or a service is usually judged in terms of dependability (which can be defined as an aggregate of quality, reliability, and maintainability etc.) and safety, not overlooking the cost of achieving these attributes. As of now, dependability and cost effectiveness are primarily seen as instruments for conducting the international trade in the free market environment and thereby deciding the economic prosperity of a nation. However, the internalization of the hidden costs of environment preservation will have to be accounted for, sooner or later, in order to be able to produce sustainable products in the long run. These factors cannot be considered in isolation of each other. The “Handbook of Performability Engineering” considers all aspects of performability engineering, providing a holistic view of the entire life cycle of activities of the product, along with the associated cost of environmental preservation at each stage, while maximizing the performance.

Product Description
Process capability continues to receive a great deal of attention from practitioners and researchers alike. Since Sullivan introduced the concept to North America, the focus on process capability is due in part to the changing philosophy in Quality Assurance. Slogans such as 'doing things right the first time' and 'building a quality product' are terrific motivators, however if a process is not capable of meeting requirements, resources will be wasted. For example, if a mechanical process is not capable, the operators, regardless of their dedication and effort, will be unable to produce a quality product. Similarly if the operators are not capable of meeting the demands of the machinery, a quality product will not result. Processes that are not capable, regardless of their incapacity, waste resources. The goal of the book is to illustrate use of the most common process capability indices with the sincere hope that it will foster the safe use and development of PCIs among practitioners and researchers. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for all software development managers and practitioners
If I owned no other books on information technology, I would want the four volume Weinberg "Quality Software Management" series. The books contain a wealth of practical information on managing the software development process.

5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I'd been introduced to this book when I started
I was recommended to read this book by Mark Barker (an associate of Parity Training) in 1999, after 10 years or so working experience. To say that scales fell from my eyes would be an understatement! Some of the concepts were familiar to me in a slightly different context (e.g. feedback) but Jerry does a superb job of applying some of these techniques in context.
If you've been in "the business" for any length of time you'll also chuckle at your own stupidity when Jerry talks about issues that we've all handled wrongly in the past.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get it and read it.
This book holds a special place in my heart. It's the first technical book I ever read in one sitting.

I've been in the software business since 1983. By the time I encountered Quality Software Management in 1992, I wasthoroughly cynical about books about software project management. By andlarge they were, and still are, preachy tomes that quote unverifiablestatistics and make dubious claims about "right" and"wrong" processes. Grow up, guys!

Jerry's books are different, and this is my favorite of all of his books. As I read QSM, I didn't feelpreached at or condescended to. I felt like, for the first time, someonewas offering me ideas for coping with the very difficult problems that facethose of us who work on projects where we don't have enough time, enoughinformation, enough skill, or enough money to do a perfect job of anything.Given our limitations, we have to make tradeoff decisions in light of thebest understanding of cause and effect we can muster. That's exactly whatmy organization was trying to do, in '92, when we were competing andwinning against Microsoft (oh, they eventually beat us by hiring away thetop third of our team, but that's another story). We just thought ofourselves as pragmatists, but when I read QSM I realized that our approachwas also scientifically sound.

Looking back, I see QSM as one of thehandful books in this field that actually helped me to become more expertat my job, and it's the first book I suggest to anyone who is serious aboutsoftware quality assurance or software project management.

Get it andread it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre
While I generally like Weinberg's more humanistic take on managing software, sometimes I feel like his lack of rigor is a detriment. His strategies and ideas are all well and I good, I agree with them completely, but his models are often too vague and he usually doesn't provide the beleaguered manager with much to go on besides platitudes.Overall I would say there isn't much (if any) new information in this book.Of course, I guess that depends on what other books you have read prior to this :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars A most enlightening introduction to quality.
I am not a software developer. When I stumbled across Gerry's book, I soon realized that I had found a hidden treasure. It contains within it the best definitions of quality that I have ever read. And he has a great sense of humor that helps make the lessons and insights you will get from the book easier to take.PS: His other books are equally great and should be read by software folks, as well as everyone else. Product Description
The first edition of Fuzzy Logic with Engineering Applications (1995) was the first classroom text for undergraduates in the field. Now updated for the second time, this new edition features the latest advances in the field including material on expansion of the MLFE method using genetic algorithms, cognitive mapping, fuzzy agent-based models and total uncertainty. Redundant or obsolete topics have been removed, resulting in a more concise yet inclusive text that will ensure the book retains its broad appeal at the forefront of the literature.

Fuzzy Logic with Engineering Applications, 3rd Edition is oriented mainly towards methods and techniques. Every chapter has been revised, featuring new illustrations and examples throughout. Supporting MATLAB code is downloadable at www.wileyeurope.com/go/fuzzylogic. This will benefit student learning in all basic operations, the generation of membership functions, and the specialized applications in the latter chapters of the book, providing an invaluable tool for students as well as for self-study by practicing engineers.

1-0 out of 5 stars LOADED WITH ERRATA
I purchased the book for a graduate level engineering course.Perhaps the other raters are orders of magnitude smarter than I, because I found the book to be extremely difficult to understand, almost to the point of laughability. The narrative is unnecessarily complex in my opinion, requiring a serious student to read and reread multiple times until a concept can be grasped. And you better have a dictionary handy because you will likely come across terms that even a well educated person will not recognize. To make matters worse, the text is LOADED with errata. On several occasions I struggled for hours working through examples in various chapters, pulling my hair out and not getting it, only to discover later after confronting the professor that the example was wrong. Not only are there numerical errors laced throughout the text and in the answer appendix, but there are MANY instances where the concept/strategy is not fully explained in an example, leaving you to scratch your head as to why particular variables and their value were chosen (not calculated), why a certain step was performed or not performed, and why certain "tactical decisions" were made as you make your way through a procedure.Several of the sketches are sloppy too where the accompanying narrative does not always match with what the sketch is telling you.
For a rather complex subject, the last thing you need is to struggle with the text. There are so many errors, and so many instances where a complex idea or example is not fully explained that I would recommend purchasing other reference material; at least until the 3rd edition of this text comes out and corrects most of the errata.

2-0 out of 5 stars Much better fuzzy logic books are out there.
With the exception of Ch. 1, the first part of the book is o.k. To see my problem with chapter 1, simply look at the article on bounded rationality he uses in his discussion of a chess game.First, several parts of the article are coppied word for word directly in his text;I have no problem with this, but they should appear in quotes.Second, I don't think his analysis of the article is accurate.
Ross does an excellent job of introducing binary logic and extending the results to fuzzy logic. However, other than this one chapter, the rest of the rest of the book is not worth the read.A much better book is by Yager and Filev.I went with Ross' text because it was published in 2004 (you know, latest is greatest) compared to the 1995 publishing of Yager's book.Don't make the same mistake, just get Yager's book; you will learn more and save yourself some money!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent for a fisrt course in fuzzy logic and systems
The way the fuzzy paradigm is introduced and developed is very inspiring for those that come from more traditional ways of thinking. The author makes the transition from classical logic to fuzzy logic in a very clear way. The fields of aplication of fuzzy logic are very well represented in the book. I would stongly support the author to publish a second edition of the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent reference book
Very good book for a solid background on Fuzzy Logic.Highly reccomented.Ross is a very involved author and enthousiastic supporter of Fuzzy logic theory use in problem solving.Try to solve some of the problems in the book. They provide much inside on real applications of the fuzzy logic Theory

5-0 out of 5 stars The least fuzzy book on fuzzy logic
If you decide to buy a book on fuzzy logic or applications of fuzzy logic, this is absolutely the best book for introductory level. In other words, this source gives a non-fuzzy and comprehensive knowledge to reader.
I strongly recommend this book to everybody for an exact comprehensive introduction to the theory of Zadeh. ... Read more

Product Description
Network operators are faced with the challenge of maximizing the quality of voice transmissions in wireless communications without impairing speech or data transmission. This book provides a comprehensive survey of voice quality algorithms, features, interactions, and trade-offs, at the device and system level. Using a practitioner rather than algorithm-designer angle, this book is unique. It elaborates on the root cause of impairments and ways for resolving them, as well as methodologies for measuring and quantifying voice quality before and after applying the remedies. The key issues are exemplified using case studies. Avoiding complex mathematics, the approach is based on real and sizable field experience supported by scientific and laboratory analysis. This title is suitable for practitioners in the wireless communications industry and graduate students in electrical engineering. Further resources for this title including a range of audio examples will be available online at www.cambridge.org/9780521855952. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for Engineers working in this field
I was introduced to this book by my colleague. He lent me a copy he had.I was an engineer in audio/acoustics who started to work in the mobile telephony field.I found a wealth of information in the book, and found the book easy to read at the same time.No high-brow, difficult to read writing at all.

I bought my own copy shortly after.I read this book again just prior to my interview with my present employer. It certainly helped me landing my job! This is an excellent book, and I heartlily recommend all who are working in this area.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great practical review of telecom voice quality issues
Dr. Perry has written a great reference on voice quality issues found in real-world telecom networks. This book goes beyond the "can you hear me now?" level of network voice quality. His careful coverage of voice quality concepts will allow newcomers to grasp the key essentials.Sufficient references are provided to allow a "deeper dive" into more technical details if required. The book's website offers several audio WAV files to demonstrate the concepts presented in the book.He assesses the risks to voice quality with the migration to IP based voice transport. ...
