5-0 out of 5 stars and I might add...
... I am a librarian at an architectural firm that designs labs and a partner asked that I order this book. My only disappointment is that no new edition is planned and like all things technical, there are new discliplines not mentioned in the book because... they hadn't been invented (so to speak) yet.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Safety Standard.Period.
Thirty years ago I met the predecessor to this volume.Sounds like a long time?I have made it those 30 years because of what I learned from this book.

If you are a chemistry student (I was a freshman when I encountered this book) then you need to read this book before you start working with your reagents.

If you are employed in a field where you work in a laboratory or come into contact with laboratory materials (albeit - it is aimed at chemical labs and not specifically at bioscience labs) then you need to read about the materials you could be exposed to, BEFORE you are exposed.

If you are a medical professional - then you already have one.

If you are a legal professional and you deal with toxic torts: you need one.

Concise, clear and accessible by any high school grad.If you work with chemicals - you need this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars PE exam
I bought this book for the PE exam.I did not use it like I thought I would but just studying it I found it easy to read and understand.

5-0 out of 5 stars NEC review
Perfect.Exactly as described and i received it in a few days!Thank you.

1-0 out of 5 stars I would have liked to review this product
I would have liked to review this product but I never received it and never received a response from the seller.I attempted to purchase the book from one of the other seller that appeared on the Amazon site.I think twice now when I try to by from someone other than Amazon.

4-0 out of 5 stars WYSIWYG
Great handbook. Some of the more commonly used sections have more details, some things less commonly referenced have little to no details. The negative reviewer obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. This book covers exactly what it's supposed to. I wouldn't want a person who doesn't even know the difference between NESC and NEC to do ANY kind of electrical work. The only thing to really note is that the book is seriously small. The pictures make it appear to be a full sized text book but it's really about half size. That's not a big deal but I just was a little surprised when I got it. Like the other review said though, this is not a substitute for the IEEE NESC book, but appears to provide a good overview of what are probably the more commonly referenced rules.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference material
I just purchased this handbook and I would say that it is worth the money. It is not a replacement to the IEEE NESC but a very important reference material. This book has excellent drawings and pictures to expound on the various subjects. I like it very much and I would recommend it to anyone who is involved in the operation, engineering, and maintenance work on any electric utility facilities. Of course, NEC and NESC can't be compared. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Replaced defective item.
I purchased two Fire Department Incident Safety officers manual for myself and a friend. When reading the manual I found that both books had several chapters missing. When I contacted Amazon they quickly sent me new manuals with no charge and pre-paid return labels to cover the return of the defective manuals. Even though there was an initial problem, I am very pleased with the service I received.

4-0 out of 5 stars helpful
The book was well written and easy to read. I found it helpful in my safety officer class.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lessons forgotten or never taught
I found this book very informative, ignore Safety-Command's review. I attended David Dodson's 16 hour class during the FDIC conference in Indianapolis in 2005. The class was an overview of the book and the more important skill of learning to read smoke. Mr. Dodson also taught an Art of Reading Smoke class that was attended by over 1,000 people. This book is the basis for the FDSOA certification test. It is a must read for any Department who has not established procedures for implementing a scene safety officer. Read and learn. The book is simplified to better understand and function in the role of a Safety Officer.

1-0 out of 5 stars A disservice to fire fighters
The lessons presented by Dodson are grossly oversimplified and the book is an injustice to fire fighters who use it. In addition, it is only written to an eighth grade level. Save your money and maybe your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars well presented to the point text
The author documents the duties and responsibilities of theincident scene safety officer . in an understandable way , Great book. ... Read more

Product Description
A member of the BP Process Safety Series developed as a complement to safety training, this text makes the perfect reference tool and training aid. The book increases the awareness of operators within the chemical and process industries, to the hazards present at start-up and shutdown of process units. It begins by describing the shutdown procedure, before moving on to the start-up, in both cases, explaining the need for procedures, pointing out the possible hazards and what steps can be taken to avoid them occurring. Using case studies of actual accidents to highlight the potential threats and explain the possible causes before giving potential safeguards, it raises the knowledge and awareness of operators to the dangers involved with the start-up and shutdown of process units, enabling them to spot hazards before accidents occur. The book concludes with a self-test section allowing readers to test their understanding of the information presented. An excellent introduction to the topic for students.

Produced by BP and endorsed by IChemE's Loss Prevention Panel, these books were developed to complement safety training. They are ideal reference tools within the workplace, increasing awareness of hazards and helping operators to understand safe operating practices and procedures.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mining Equipment Reliability, Maintainability, and Safety
This book presents an elementary level of knowledge if reliability is concerned as well as if mine practice is taken into considerations. Actual academic analyses of reliability, maintainability and safety of mine equipment used to be considered in much penetrative and comprehensive way. For this reason mathematical tools applied are much more sophisticated than that presented in this book. If it is presumed that somebody needs preliminary course in this field this book is just right. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Greate negotiation
The product arrived on time, and it fullfiled my expectations.
I do recommend this seller

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-reading for those conducting safety studies
This is one of the best technical books I've ever read on any subject--and I've read many of them!It should be must reading not only for those who conduct transportation safety studies--the subject of the book-- but also for those conducing any observational study ("before/after study"), whether safety-related or not.

This book is a valuable and much-needed contribution to the technical literature. The book begins by showing how classical statistical techniques are often misused in observational studies.Classical techniques assume a rigorous experimental design, with random assignment to treatment and non-treatement groups. These conditions do not apply to observational studies, such as those determining the influence of smoking on health.Errors such as assuming safety in the immediate "before" period is a good predictor of safety in the "after" period are discussed. The book then goes on to provide valid techniques that work.It shows how to compare the what would have been the safety in the after period without treatment, to the safety that was achieved.Complications of assessing the safety in the before and after periods are addressed.

The book is not only an important technical contribution, it is also extremely well-written.The author's writing style is extremely lucid and should serve as an example to others. The first section of the book provides a qualitative description of the material.Subsequent sections then repeat the material, but with mathemtatical rigor.Numerous numerical examples (some with real-world data; others with hypothetcial data for simplicity sake) make the material clear.Mathematical dervivations are provided for rigor, but isolated from the rest of the text to keep from overwhelming the reader.

The author writes with a conversational style, frequently re-emphasizing important points. He takes care to show at all points where he is in the logical discussion and how the current topic fits in to the overall picture. Some of the words are written tongue in cheek. My favorite is his description that
"they do not have a problem of congnition, but only of brittle bones".

In short, the book is outstanding for both its technical content and for the way the material is presented. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars What I Needed
Well, not much I'm going to put in here except that it is the book that I needed for my class. Good Luck with classes!

5-0 out of 5 stars Commercial Aviation Safety
Great Book. Goes in-depth about the FAA. Good stats and graphs. Wish it talked more about international orgs. Easy to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars School book
I ordered this book for a class I am taking in Bagram Afghanistan, I had no trouble with it being shipped to me and it arrived in about 2 weeks which is fast for the mail here ...thank you guys

5-0 out of 5 stars Fourth Edition Errors In My opinion
In the last paragraph on the bottom of page 58 it states, "and individuals who were involved in the accident".Per an FAA Investigator-In-Charge (Coordinator) and in my opinion, this is an inaccurate statement.

On page 136, figure 6-1, in my opinion, the arrowheads pointing at "unpredictable acts" should instead be pointing at "aircraft capabilities".

Book shipped on time, and condition as represented.
