Product Description
The most up-to-date coverage of welding metallurgy aspects and weldability issues associated with Ni-base alloys

Welding Metallurgy and Weldability of Nickel-Base Alloys describes the fundamental metallurgical principles that control the microstructure and properties of welded Ni-base alloys. It serves as a practical how-to guide that enables engineers to select the proper alloys, filler metals, heat treatments, and welding conditions to ensure that failures are avoided during fabrication and service. Chapter coverage includes:

  • Alloying additions, phase diagrams, and phase stability

  • Solid-solution strengthened Ni-base alloys

  • Precipitation strengthened Ni-base alloys

  • Oxide dispersion strengthened alloys and nickel aluminides

  • Repair welding of Ni-base alloys

  • Dissimilar welding

  • Weldability testing

  • High-chromium alloys used in nuclear power applications

With its excellent balance between the fundamentals and practical problem solving, the book serves as an ideal reference for scientists, engineers, and technicians, as well as a textbook for undergraduate and graduate courses in welding metallurgy.

Editorial Review

Product Description
By reviewing and comparing all commercially available welding processes, this authoritative handbook helps the reader select the best-suited process for the application and provides an understanding on the limitations and benefits of each process. The focus on practical aspects such as weldability, optimizing part design, troubleshooting, and testing makes this book an indispensable tool for everyone involved in welding of plastics. At the same time, it also conveys the basic theoretical principles of plastics welding such as squeeze flow, molecular diffusion, and heat transfer mechanisms. This handbook is intended for a wide audience including: welders and welding equipment operators, design engineers, manufacturing engineers, chemical engineers, material scientists, and research and development personnel. Each chapter was developed by experts in the field with a wide breadth of information dealing with all welding aspects including materials, process phenomenology, equipment, and joint design. The authors also included many application examples to assist engineers in considering the materials and geometries that were successfully used for a specific process. While not all encompassing, the handbook provides the basic information along with references that can be used to gather additional information or details. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
this book was great.Actually, it could have been a little better, but since it's the best book out there on oxy welding I gave it a 5.It has lots of step by step practice routines for welding near anything with oxy-acetylene, safety procedures, etc.I liked this book a lot.It could have been better with more pictures and diagrams (better closeups of proper beads, some diagrams of tip placement for each project, etc., I'm a very visual person), but overall it was ecellent. If you want to oxy fuel weld, start with this book! ... Editorial Review

Product Description
An advanced yet accessible treatment of the welding process and its underlying science.

Despite the critically important role welding plays in nearly every type of human endeavor, most books on this process either focus on basic technical issues and leave the science out, or vice versa. In Principles of Welding, industry expert and prolific technical speaker Robert W. Messler, Jr. takes an integrated approach—presenting a comprehensive, self-contained treatment of the welding process along with the underlying physics, chemistry, and metallurgy of weld formation.

Promising to become the standard text and reference in the field, this book provides an unprecedented broad coverage of the underlying physics and the mechanics of solidification—including peritectic and eutectic reactions—and emphasizes material continuity and bonding as a way to create a joint between materials of the same general class. The author supplements the book with hundreds of tables and illustrations, and correlates the science to welding practices in the real world.

Principles of Welding departs from existing books with its clear, unambiguous presentation, which is easily grasped even by undergraduate students, yet given at the advanced level required by experienced engineers. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book
Good general source of knowledge for welding and materials joining. Covers material thoroughly.

4-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive description in welding technology
This is another book from Messler, the writer of Joining of Advanced Material. It encompasses most of the welding metallurgy of metals, chemistry of the weld pool (which is very rare in other welding books), andphysics of welding in detail. However, it doesn't go deep enough to thedescription about welding processes. Those who wish to read some detailsabout wedling processes need to look for other books. ... Read more
