4-0 out of 5 stars Good for personal devotion for a younger Christian
Max Lucado is a clear writer and teacher and in this "life lessons" study has provided a very basic guided devotion of the book of acts. There are a total of 12 lessons to cover the entire book, so as you might expect the study does not cover all of acts.Instead, the study covers major events and takes the reader through each event with a semi-guided reflection. Each lesson has the following elements:

Reflection - a short intro to the theme of the study
Situation - a short context for the scripture reading
Observation - the scripture reading from the ncv and Ning
Exploration - a few questions to help the reader think about the passage
Inspiration - notes from Lucado about the theme; these are often from one of his previous books
Reaction - questions to help the reader apply the lesson
Life lessons - Lucado's take away from the lesson
Devotion - a prayer

The bible study is enjoyable but a little basic. If you were looking for more of a commentary you will want to look elsewhere. For something to add to your morning devotions that will not take a lot of additional time this is great. ... Read more

Product Description

Steve Harvey, the host of the nationally syndicated Steve Harvey Morning Show, can't count the number of impressive women he's met over the years, whether it's through the "Strawberry Letters" segment of his program or while on tour for his comedy shows. These are women who can run a small business, keep a household with three kids in tiptop shape, and chair a church group all at the same time. Yet when it comes to relationships, they can't figure out what makes men tick. Why? According to Steve it's because they're asking other women for advice when no one but another man can tell them how to find and keep a man. In Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man, Steve lets women inside the mindset of a man and sheds lights on concepts and questions such as:

—The Ninety Day Rule: Ford requires it of its employees. Should you require it of your man?

—How to spot a mama's boy and what if anything you can do about it.

—When to introduce the kids. And what to read into the first interaction between your date and your kids.

—The five questions every woman should ask a man to determine how serious he is.

— And more...

Sometimes funny, sometimes direct, but always truthful, Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man is a book you must read if you want to understand how men think when it comes to relationships.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great
This was an excellent book. The shipping was on time. The book was as if it was brand new & I purchased it used.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Eye Opener
While reading this book I wished (to myself) it could have been written a few years ago. It would have saved me a lot of time in my previous relationship. Overall it's a GREAT book, if you don't have it I suggest you get one.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Novel-lites Review
The Novel-lites thought this book was a good read; while the information was not needed for most of the group, it was still a good book to pass on to friends who may not get it.Everything in Mr. Harvey's book is common knowledge, and pretty much, simple stuff. It is the stuff you learn when you are very young, but once you become an adult, you may well forget. We all know that men and women are different, reared different, treated different, emotionally different, culturally, and socially different; so when we get into relationships, it's a wonder that women feel that men should "act" different (we're in a relationship now, act right!); sometimes we forget and therein lies Steve Harvey's book to remind some ladies, that men and women don't think or act alike, and you may have to start thinking like a man to get what you want, while maintaining your status as a lady. You keep this book around as a reference guide in those cases when you are with a jackass and you need to be reminded (what did Steve say about men that don't like to cuddle after sex?!), and just let it go.Congrats to Steve Harvey for keeping us ladies updated.

4-0 out of 5 stars VERY helpful, especially for single women
I loved this book, I found the principles and topics to be helpful and on point. The only thing I did not like is it seemed to cater a little too much to women with kids. Maybe that is the general audience of his listeners, but some of the advice I wish was tailored more for both.

But I do hope he comes out with a part two, I want to know so much more how to come back at a man when he tried to use head game on you (like when applying the 90 day rule) or how to deal with falling for an ex's friend (and is that taboo?) or just the anatomy of: a bad boy, geek, jock etc and how to find your way into their lives and heart.

Eagerly anticipating part two!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Okay read not based on biblical principles
The book "Act like a Lady Think like a Man" was written by Steve Harvey to give his readers a synopsis of what men think about love, relationships, intimacy, and commitment.Steve Harvey wrote this book because he feels that women do not understand the simplicity of men he wanted to show them how to succeed in building a solid relationship that would last beyond the first date.Steve Harvey talks about the ninety-day rule, asserting that men should wait at least three months before they get sexually involved with a woman. He gives insights into the male mentality and offers women strategies on how to control their mate. While the book may be enjoyable and full of comedy it does not really tell us anything that we already do not know. The Bible should be our first guide in building strong relationships. It demonstrates for us principles to follow as husbands and wives. There were some good points that Steve Harvey pointed out.The five essential questions you should ask your potential mate were some of the good points. What are your short term goals? What are your long term goals? What are you feelings toward me as individual? What do you think of me? And What do you expect from this relationship? A relationship should be based on trust. When God is allowed to be first in a relationship there would not be a ninety-day rule.Men and woman would want until marriage. This book should have been written on what men and women need to know to make a relationship work, not telling women to think like men.It takes two to make a relationship work. ... The fallout from a horrific Washington explosion has just begun -- and so has CIA superagent Mitch Rapp's hunt for a killer with a personal agenda.

In the final weeks of a fierce presidential campaign, a motorcade carrying candidate Josh Alexander is shattered by a car bomb. Soon after the attack, Alexander is carried to victory by a sympathy vote, but his assailants have not been found. When CIA director Irene Kennedy and Special Agent Skip McMahon receive damaging intelligence on Washington's most powerful players, they call on Mitch Rapp -- the one man reckless enough to unravel a global network of contractkillers on an explosive mission that leads back to the heart of our nation's capital...and the inner sanctum of the Oval Office. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars High Suspense and Low People
Mr Flynn has crafted an intense inside Washington political thriller. The protagonist is once again Mitch Rapp, that seemingly out of control and deadly CIA operative. I seldom read an entire book in one day, but I did with this book. The action takes us from Washington to Geneva, Switzerland and ultimately ends up inside the Oval Office. We get a full helping of Mr. Rapp and his interesting and effective ways to dispense "justice". The surprise ending is not one you remotely suspect until you are actually reading it !!

This is a terrific thriller I highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly spellbinding and suspenseful
Recently I made a 300 mile drive alone and was afraid of falling asleep at the wheel. A good friend suggested that I get a book on CD by Vince Flynn to play in the car - and she could guarantee I wouldn't fall asleep. She was right!

I selected Act of Treason and did not have one sleepy moment on my trip. It was truly spellbinding and suspenseful and I enjoyed every minute and looked forward to every new chapter. It was a fast-paced as well as high anticipation story. I look forward to reading another one of his novels!

3-0 out of 5 stars Not his best, but still good fun
This is vintage Flynn. Lots of nonstop adrenaline and a trail of bodies. It's sort of hard to take the plot completely seriously because Mitch Rapp's dialogue is so over the top, but it is still good mindless fun.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vince Flynn - Act of Treason
Excellent writer, very realistic scenarios, cast and environmental settings.Easy reading and definitely a nail biter

5-0 out of 5 stars Act of Treason

4-0 out of 5 stars A great, comprehensive study source
Kaplan's ACT Premier is intended to be a stand-alone, all-in-one reference for students preparing to take the ACT for college admission. It contains a thorough introduction which outlines the format of the exam section by section, information regarding test registration, scoring and how to approach your preparation. From there, you will find a extensive, directed study for each section of the test (Math, English, Science, Reading, Writing) which reviews question types, content (when applicable), and test taking strategies for each section. The margins allow room for note taking but also contain prompts for students such as helpful hints and online references.

For a highly motivated student, completing this 700 page workbook-text and CD-ROM will be informative and worthwhile endeavor.More than likely, this book combined with a few Official ACT Practice Tests will be all you need to be successful on your exam.

For those students who have less developed study skills, this book might appear insurmountable at first glance. To those students (or parents) I would suggest the following:work together with a study partner through manageable portions of the workbook over a several week time period. Working with a private tutor (one who scores well on standardized tests!) would also be an ideal way to tackle both the text and the test.

No matter how you choose to prepare, Kaplan's ACT Premier provides a solid and comprehensive reference for the exam.Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice study aid for the ACT
This ACT study guide from Kaplan is nice.It includes overviews of the ACT test, materials for review, as well as practice exams. There is also an accompanying CD-ROM.The 6 practice exams have accompanying answer keys that include explanations of the answers so that you not only know which answer is the correct one, but also why it is the correct one.

If a student were to apply her/himself to a dedicated review of material for the ACT using these materials, they should be able to improve their score.

There are also helpful FAQs about the ACT exam, and detailed descriptions of each of the subject areas included in the test.

Recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars Useful though not always user-friendly
There are a plethora of study aids for everything from GED to ASVAB and of course the ACT.
Remembering that such diagnostic tests are primarily skill based rather than knowledge based, it is important to note whether the study materials effectively communicate the skills needed to be successful.
The product is extensive and has plenty of test material but it's print layout is not particularly easy to view and that is a concern. In addition the acoompanying CdRom while an excellent idea was not always easy to navigate and was more frustrating than mind-easing. Do I think someone can be helped by this material? Yes but the average 17/18 yer old would probably not have the patience to see the book through to it's promise of ACT success.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another Kaplan winner!

In Michigan, 11th graders take the ACT test plus Writing college entrance examination for their Michigan Merit Examination.I found it interesting that in one of the early pages, this guide points out that you need to know your enemy to conquer it.Yes, you do.And this book gives you the weapons you need to win.

I tend to trust Kaplan to understand what needs to be learned for certain mechanical parts of an exam and this guide is as excellent as all the others I have seen.

In the Introduction, the book points out that there are four keys to succeeding in this test. They may seem obvious, but I thought they were well put. One, learn the test. Two, learn the strategies.Three, learn the material tested.Four, practice, practice, practice.Familiarity with testing is one of the biggest things to help students improve their scores.

This guide is a tool box of strategies to use.It teaches students to take control of their testing I was amazed at all of the tips in this book.As someone who looks at testing from the other side, the teacher's and the researcher's, I did not know a lot of this information. The tips should be learned well in advance and are probably helpful for a wide range of testing situations.

My 15 year old will be beginning his sophomore year soon and this summer seemed like a good time to get him ready for a variety of testing adventures. One of the reasons it is so important to have a thorough guide is because he has test anxiety and a history of impulsive behavior. It's very difficult to get students to answer a question correctly if they decide on the correct answer before reading the entire question.Testing anxiety and attention difficulties add up to a bad initial ACT score.

This book has given me the opportunity to give him a sample test - which he did very well on, of course, as it was given at home in his seat at the dining room table.Kids always do very well from their comfortable seats. I like that the materials mimic the actual tests except that they were in this huge book.It would be better if they were removable and included copies of the answer sheets that more closely align with the testing situation. This is the reason I made this 4 star instead of 5.The closer you get to the actual experience, the better students will be prepared for it.

Of course, my primary motivation is NOT to improve my 15YO's ACT score, but to improve his reading ability. He needs the tools and information toconquer all of the tests he will take in the future, including exams in a very good college. As the primary problem is to improve his vocabulary, he has spent the summer reading materials of his choice.I'm also using vocabulary words from 11th and 12th grade lists and from other SAT and ACT prep books, teaching him to use them in context.

I don't think any one guide will give you everything you need to prepare. This guide is an excellent head start.

3-0 out of 5 stars Does anyone actual use the book?
Upon using the book I discovered that all the math questions in practice test 2 are the same as practice test 4.Why didn't anyone else who has bought this book comment on this? Why hasn't Kaplan corrected this on their web site?It makes me wonder if anyone actually uses the book or just buys it for the kids who in turn don't read past the first few pages. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't Really "Teach"...
This book was...OK.
The practice sections are the highlights of this book. The practices they offer are a lot harder than most others, and if you do well with the practices in this book, the other prep books will seem really easy. However, there is something about this book that should be noticed: this book does NOT actually teach anything. For example, in the Math-Geometry section, it says: "...you will use properties of isosceles triangles to find area and perimeter of regular polygons...triangle sum and the reflexive property are key to keep in mind when solving these problems." But nowhere do they tell you what the properties of isosceles triangles are, or what the triangle sums are, or what the reflexive property is...
In general, buy this book to only practice the hard ACT questions. You will not gain very much if you do not already know the material tested.

3-0 out of 5 stars It'll take more than just reading this book if you want a 36...
I'll certainly say that this is the most detailed ACT strategy book I've read. Being someone who scores in the 30s, I needed a book that was going to help me answer the more difficult questions. I had no use for the books that simply taught you how to use a comma, verb tenses, possession, etc; I knew that stuff already. Basically, this is the book for those who want help scoring above a 30.

The strategies in this book aren't great, and I found myself using it more for the information it gives in the English and Math sections. The English section goes through a huge chapter-worth of all the complex grammar or punctuation rules you may just happen to find one question on on the test. However, having taken the real ACT three times already, I have to say that they don't really test you on that kind of stuff. The math section does the same type of thing, teaching you the basics but also complex sequencing, trigonometry, etc. to help you on those two or three harder questions that make the difference between a 30 and a 33 or even a 33 and a 36. The only really good thing from the Science section is the '5-6-7 strategy' and I haven't found anything too helpful from the reading section. Those are just sections no one can really tell you what to do; you have to find what works for you.

Overall, I'd say that this book really over-prepares you, showing you how to answer the questions you'll probably find once a 'testing-season' on one of the tests. However, if you're truly aiming for that perfect score, then you're going to have to be prepared to answer those types of questions.

It does include a practice test for each category, but they're pretty difficult, as the book strategy covers more difficult questions as I said.

If you want practice tests, go with McGraw-Hill's 10 ACT Practice Tests, Third Edition (McGraw-Hill's 10 Practice Acts) or The Real ACT Prep Guide: The Only Guide to Include 3Real ACT Tests.

5-0 out of 5 stars ACT book
The book arrived on time and in good shape. I recommend the seller for future purchases.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great review, but beware of science
I found the Barron's 2400 book to be most helpful in my reviewing for the SAT, and so purchased the ACT 36 as my only practice book for taking the ACT. One book was not enough practice for scoring well on the ACT, but if I had to choose one, it would be Barron's because the review for each section is concise and sufficient.

My only problem:
BEWARE OF THE SCIENCE SECTION. If you buy this book, DO NOT USE the "5-6-7" method UNLESS you have practiced with the trick enough to comfortably apply it. The book mentions that it is most difficult to purposely take a test out of order, and this is every bit true. I did not have time to practice with the 5-6-7 method, and when I tried to go out of order on the actual science test, my mode of thinking fell apart and I started to panic for skipping so many questions in a row. I literally feared answering only a quarter of the questions. I only pulled myself together after going back to do them in order.
Long story short: following this method without practice was a disaster, so I want to caution others who might study the night before.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Missing Link
I have yet to finish the book but from the sections I have been through, english and math, are well written and include worthy advice. I have not taken the ACT yet but I do recommend reading the book before you take the test because it has a fair amount of content. It is a new book, published in early 2009, so much of the content is up-to-date. This is a good book to study for the ACT with no matter what others have written about it. ... Read more

I'm sure that it was a great product for 2001, but considering that it's 2009 I feel that I can't trust it's accuracy. My fault that I couldn't/didn't read the small print.I feel somewhat cheated, but then again, it's my fault.

Delia Hopkins has led a charmed life. Raised in rural New Hampshire by her widowed father Andrew, she now has a young daughter, a handsome fiance, and her own Search and Rescue bloodhound - which she uses to find missing persons. But as she plans her wedding, she is plagued by flashbacks of a life she can't recall. Then a policeman shows up at her door, arresting her father for the kidnap of a little girl. And Delia's past and present fracture into little pieces. "Vanishing Acts" is a book about the very nature and power of memory. It explores what happens when the past we have been running from catches up to us, and questions who we trust to tell us the story of our lives before we are capable of remembering it ourselves. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Vanishing Acts-Jodi Picoult
She writes with so much feeling and knowledge. You never know until the absolute end, how things are settled. Absolutely awesome!!

1-0 out of 5 stars BORING
I picked this book up when it was on sale for my Kindle months ago and never got around to reading it.I pulled it out of my Archived Items last week and decided to read it.I should have left it in Archived Items.

I disliked the writing device of switching from character to character.I disliked the dysfunctinal relationship between Delia, Fitz, and Eric. Worse, the story plodded along at a snail's pace.It almost put me to sleep at times.

Then to top it all off I hated the ending.I supose the suthor was trying to add a touch of mystery, but it had me rolling my eyes.

Skip this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wish I could rate NO stars
The most frustrating thing to me about Jodi Picoult is how she comes up with such great concepts, and has a basically nice writing style that is easy to get hooked into. Then she proceeds to throw in everything but the kitchen sink, trying to show us how clever she is, how much research she's done, how many characters she can juggle and have them all somehow magically provide just the perfect insight to one another that they needed. I've now read several of her books, because I keep wanting to give her another chance, but this is it for me.

Here are some of the worst faults of this book: First off, the use of alternating points of view, complete with different fonts as a visual aid. But then the voices themselves are all completely identical - the overly poetic, self-important voice of the all-knowing writer. Why bother to use this device at all if you can't make it more convincing that we're actually getting inside the heads of the different characters?

Then, the excessively long sections about life in prison, complete with gangs, nicknames, ridiculous Latino and Black dialogue, and jailhouse poetry... oh, come ON!! I was actually embarrassed for Picoult the first time that awful rap appeared, and then she just couldn't help herself, she did it again. I literally could not bring myself to read more than a few lines, and finally just had to skip the rest of the prison sections altogether.

***SPOILERS***
Just when I'd had about enough of the quirky Native American neighbor, Ruthann, she actually takes Delia and Sophie off on a road trip with her to the Hopi Reservation. And when she jumps to her death from the ancient cliff dwellings, we get Delia, in her rampant conceit, believing that Ruthann purposely brought her along because she knew Delia and her bloodhound would be able to track her and somehow 'bear witness' to her suicide.

Then, oops! Eric starts drinking again, and Delia falls into bed with Fritz (except it's the back seat of her car, just emphasizing how adolescent this whole triangle really is). But WAIT! Eric is actually okay with it, but still somehow expects Delia to come back to him when he gets straightened out, yet again.

Finally, there it is, the characteristic Picoult twist at the end: Andrew drops the bombshell in court that Victor was abusing his daughter... no wait! It's a double twist! Delia starts to remember the abuse herself... no, it's a triple twist!... Andrew admits to her that he might not have even seen anything at all, but only convinced himself of it based on his suspicions...

I could go on and on, there is so much to dislike about this book. Just read all of the other 1-star reviews, I agree with everything they said!

5-0 out of 5 stars Vanishing Acts
Great Book.My daughter had to read for school and half way thru she kept telling me I have to read this book next!

3-0 out of 5 stars Got through it
I have read three other Jodi Picoult books and absolutely hands down loved them...(The Pact, Change of Heart, and Handle with Care)This one just wasnt as good....So if its going to be the first you read of her I would choose something different so that you can become familiar with her style of writing... ... Product Description

In the middle of tending to the everyday business at her vintage-clothing shop and sidestepping her married boyfriend’s attempts at commitment, Iris Lockhart receives a stunning phone call: Her great-aunt Esme, whom she never knew existed, is being released from Cauldstone Hospital—where she has been locked away for more than sixty-one years.

Iris’s grandmother Kitty always claimed to be an only child. But Esme’s papers prove she is Kitty’s sister, and Iris can see the shadow of her dead father in Esme’s face.

Esme has been labeled harmless—sane enough to coexist with the rest of the world. But she's still basically a stranger, a family member never mentioned by the family, and one who is sure to bring life-altering secrets with her when she leaves the ward. If Iris takes her in, what dangerous truths might she inherit?

A gothic, intricate tale of family secrets, lost lives, and the freedom brought by truth, The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox will haunt you long past its final page.

4-0 out of 5 stars Unsure at first...
I wasn't sure about this book at first, but in the end I found it a compelling story. It is wonderfully textured and multi-layered, and the juxtaposition of the past & present stories makes for a really rich experience. Both stories are moving toward a fairly climactic moment, and both have an interesting sense of urgency and inevitability about them that is nicely parallelled in O'Farrell's writing.

I listened to this book, and one thing that was at times problematic for me (and this is a personal thing) is the lack of even a breath in the transitions from present to past. There were points when I had to back the CD up and listen again to fully hear the transition in the story. I found this a little distracting, but certainly not a major issue.

What was perhaps the most compelling part of the book for me was how touching Esme's character was. She seemed - to me - to be the one most grounded in her sense of what was truly important, and she had no patience for pretense and show. I loved that about her. I loved that she didn't seem to care much what people thought of her, and that she wanted to use her mind. I ached for her that she was ignored, punished, and most of all misunderstood to such a degree that it was easier to get rid of her than deal with her. How she was able to retain her sense of self to the degree she did through all that she endured was astonishing and heartbreaking at the same time...astonishing because many would have (and did) go mad in such a situation, and heartbreaking because she understood the enormity of what had been done to her.

I never expected this book to be filled with so much potential for discussion. O'Farrell touched on so social "hot buttons" - gender roles, rape, mental health, personal freedom, cruelty, corrupt/uneducated health care, death of a child, kidnapping/adoption - that it would seem impossible to manage everything in an eloquent way, especially given that the book is not long. She does, however, create a story that is a satisfying read, leaves the reader wanting more (of O'Farrell's writing), and impacts the reader on an emotional level.

Finally (and surprisingly), I was pleased to find the ending so completely ambiguous that the reader is left to 1) imagine what happens next, and 2) hope that Maggie O'Farrell eventually will write a sequel.

4-0 out of 5 stars I'm torn about this book.
Maggie O'Farrell has presented us with some outstanding characters and an unparalleled, wholly believable storyline. But i can't help feeling that she spent so much time developing and unraveling these characters that she neglected the end of the story. I felt like it was building towards this climactic ending and then - nothing. At first i thought i'd missed something, and re-read the last few chapters. In the end i just felt let down.

As for O'Farrell hopping between narrators, i rather enjoyed that. It was a unique perspective on the story and it's subplots.

5-0 out of 5 stars An inconvenient woman
Iris Lockhart (an oddly portentous last name) is at work in Edinburgh when she receives a shocking phone call, informing her that she is legal guardian for a great aunt, Esme, whom she never knew existed. Iris's grandmother, Kitty, in now in a nursing home, in no condition to explain why she never revealed that she has a sister. When Esme inquires, she discovers that Esme has been a mental patient for an astounding 61 years. Esme needs a home, because the hospital is now closing.

What follows is the moving and captivating story of Esme - how and why she was committed - and her birth family. It does not unfold linearly, rather in stream of consciousness fragments and flashbacks recalled by those who were involved. As the facts come to light, they grow more and more incredible, leading the reader to question who is the person who is actually "unbalanced". This book lingers in the mind long after the covers are closed.

5-0 out of 5 stars I didn't see it coming!
What a gem of a novel! I didn't see the end coming at all. But boy I just didn't blame her in the end... I won't give it away. I couldn't put this one down. In fact, she kept me up all night. A quick, well written, captivating read.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you don't love this book, then you cannot be helped.
This is my absolute favourite novel. (This book beat out Jane Austen's Persuasion and Daphne du Maurier's My Cousin Rachel for that top spot)Maggie O'Farrell writes in a beautiful and unique style. She creates characters you fall in love with, characters you love to hate, characters you identify with.I read Esme (and all Maggie O'Farrell's other books) over and over again; I'm truly addicted.I think there's enough plot summaries, so I won't bother with that, but I will say I loved Esme and I highly recommend. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Who is who hits home.
One of the guys gets hit in the pocketbook and the vigilantes plunge to the rescue. Identity theft is the theme of VANISHING ACT by Fern Michaels in her long running Sisterhood series.
A few surprises and plot twists, but everyone has a part to play for a sound resolution--the story finished too fast for believability.

5-0 out of 5 stars always a pleasure to read/ The Sisterhood Series
I have become hooked on Fern Michaels. Her series, "the sisterhood", is my particular choice. It is about a group of women, who right the wrongs done to their friends & family.Even tho they are mysteries & sometimes the things they do, are rather drastic, they are usually deserved by the receiver of the punishment. I also would suggest starting at the first of the series, as they include all the members of the sisterhood & how the group was started in the first place. I look forward to each new story & this, one of the latest, is very good. They are an excellent read, particularly for mystery fans.[[ASIN:1420106856 Vanishing Act (The Sisterhood)

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots Of Help For An Important Test...
We purchased this to help a student at our school and it was an excellent choice because the student felt better relaxed and prepared for the actual test.Great price for the Textbook and fast shipping!

God Bless :))

2-0 out of 5 stars A lot of mistakes
It is a good practice book. However, users should note that there are a lot of errors in the answer key, especially the science reading part. Also, there are some answers that don't match the explanations given, so it spends time to check which answer is actually correct. The quality of this book is the worst amongst the other princeton review products.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good Resemblance, Many Errors!
This book has practice questions closest to the ACT from all the prep books I have used. However, there are lots of errors which really hinder from it being a perfect study aid. For example, too many answers given are not correct, and the explanations are wrong. Also, theABCD FGHJ goes out of sequence which gets annoying. I recommend using real ACT questions... "The Real ACT Prep Guide" from the makers of the ACT.

1-0 out of 5 stars Answers don't match tests
The Princeton Review should be embarrassed to have its name on this book. Not only are there outright errors in the "answers," several of the sample tests have answer keys that clearly do not match the test printed.

I help kids prepare for standardized testing and have used other Princeton Review books successfully, but this book is a disgrace. If you are looking for extra practice tests, I would strongly recommend finding a different test prep book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent book for visual learners
This book contains a number of sample sample tests and fairly complete reviews of many of the answers. It is wonderful tool for visual learners. My daughter, however, is not a very visual learner. I give it three stars for us because I still ended up needing additional tutoring to supplement the book (which I was hoping to avoid).I suppose it is a good book insofar as it provides repetition of sample test questions to boost the students awareness of question types to expect on the actual test.Anyway, she is retaking the ACT test as I type this review and I am hoping that between this book and the additional tutoring that I am done with any ACT expenses and hassle. So much riding on a standardized test that really does not always properly reflect the knowledge of a student. But I digress ....

Product Description
In this national bestseller, acclaimed, award-winning psychologist Dr. David Walsh explains exactly what happens to the human brain on the path from childhood into adolescence and adulthood. Revealing the latest scientific findings in easy-to-understand terms, Dr. Walsh shows why moodiness, quickness to anger and to take risks, miscommunication, fatigue, territoriality, and other familiar teenage behavior problems are so common -- all are linked to physical changes and growth in the adolescent brain.

Why Do They Act That Way? is the first book to explain the changes in teens' brains and show parents how to use this information to understand, communicate with, and stay connected to their kids. Through real-life stories, Dr. Walsh makes sense of teenagers' many mystifying, annoying, and even outright dangerous behavioral difficulties and provides realistic solutions for dealing with everyday as well as severe challenges. Dr. Walsh's techniques include, among others: sample dialogues that help teens and parents talk civilly and constructively with each other, behavioral contracts, and Parental Survival Kits that provide practical advice for dealing with issues like curfews, disrespectful language and actions, and bullying. With this arsenal of strategies, parents can help their kids learn to control impulses, manage erratic behavior, cope with their changing bodies, and, in effect, develop a second brain. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Exellent Book!
I haven't read thru the entire book yet but the chapters I've finished are excellent! I have learned a great deal about what my son is going thru physically that explains why he is behaving as he has been. I enjoy the real life stories which helps put everything into context. I think its a must read for all parents.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
This book was suggested to me by a school administrator who has been working with pre-teens and teenagers for 15 plus years.I just received the book a few days ago and can't seem to put it down.My child will soon be 13 and have another 10 year old.Already, I feel I can put the ideas in the book to work immediatly and gives me insight in how the brain works in an easy to understand way.Being a teacher myself I am finding it helpful to relate to my students as well and editing my behavior towards them in a more beneficial and productive way.I've read MANY books with related topics but not hit the nail on the head and got straight to the point as this one.If you are struggling to relate to your teen or even have a child who is constantly in trouble I hightly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Parent of a Teen Should Read This!
I got the book, WHY Do They Act That Way?: A Survival Guide to the Adolescent Brain for You and Your Teen on a whim after a colleague of mine in adolescent health recommended the author. Wow. This book incorporates much of the current research on adolescent health and parenting, but in a very readable format. It incorporates much of the newer research on adolescent brain development - pruning and rapid growth. The book is interspersed with thoughtful vignettes and language that parents can use with their kids.

I work with disabled young adults, and so many of the issues parents of these young people are facing are similar to what David writes about that our clinic purchased two copies for our lending library. Several of the nurses and social work staff have read it commenting that it will be useful for themselves as parents, and there is now a wait list. It will probably be a few months before the book is actually available for parents of any of my patients!

Highly recommended. An easy read, but one that you'll want to read over again and keep as a reference. You will see your own children reflected in the pages of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Impressed
As a counselor focused on a developmental perspective and one who works with many adolescents and their families I found this book to be informative and easy to read. I spend a great deal of time reading and preparing for parenting classes and seminars. I feel very strongly that a clear understanding of brain development is essential to clarifying one's understanding of adolescent behaviors. Dr. Walsh provides a great deal of good information from many perspectives; focusing on a theme of providing your adolescent with the wings to fly while making certain they have secure roots as he encourages parents to parent with love while meeting the adolescent's need for connection and guidance. I will most definitely use his very helpful discussion on teens "Falling in Love" vs the later developmental experience of "Standing in Love" as managing emotions and romantic relationship issues are a high priority at this stage of development. Dr. Walsh explains things for the purposes of reaching a broad audience while remaining true to the facts evidenced in the most recent research. I find this book to be a wonderful compliment to Daniel Siegel's works: "Parenting from the Inside Out" and "The Developing Mind". I highly recommend this book to my fellow youth and family counselors and to parents of teens looking for valuable guidance in parenting.

5-0 out of 5 stars A MUST read for teens and parents of teens
This book opened my eyes as a parent!

Some of the things I knew on a basic level, but it really brings the functioning of the adolescent brain to the intellectual level, to better understand where to go from here.

It brings to the forefront the challenges they have that we didn't. It reminds us as parents how tough it is for them to navigate through it all, and teaches us tools so we are able guide them through it.

I have asked my daughter to read it. I believe it will benifit her in knowing how her brain is working and why we as parents do what we do.

Call me Nico. Most of the prep books I looked at reminded me of Moby Dick. So much blubber. I didn't want another book filled with filler. The Principles and Strategies in this workare short, to the point, and written in an engaging style. It's a whale of a book with the quality of a lobster tale.

This prep book actually has cartoons that are funny. And the authors are pretty amusing considering the subject matter. But the good news is that the content has the potential to help you score higher on the writing section. The tips made me think about different ways to approach the writing prompts. 4-0 out of 5 stars Worth the investment
My daughter is autistic and it's not so much the math that confused her as the instructions by her teacher. She found the instruction/guides helpful and was better able to understand how to work through the problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars ACT helps in GED prep to
My son is taking the ACT test soon but I got him this book to help with his GED. He was weak in math and the definitions in the book alone was worth it. It helped him to achieve a 600 on his GED. Great Book

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for ACT Math review
I scanned through the ACT review math books before deciding to purchase this one.I am glad I did. This book provides a full range of the math problems on the ACT test and also provides full explanations of the answers if you come across a problem you just can't figure out.I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is planning on taking the ACT test.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love this book but a bit easy
I think this is a great book for ACT math prep.It has 5 practice tests that all seem well written. It breaks down the math section into major topics (pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trig, etc), then covers specific types of problems within each major topic. There are mini-tests over each category too, which I think is really helpful.I've pretty much used the book cover to cover.I have found 2 errors though and it doesn't cover every math topic you need to know for the test.

March 2010 update: I now think this book is a little too easy, especially for those looking for a top score (say, 30 and up).I still think it's an ideal book for those looking for scores in the mid to maybe upper twenties (or below) though. The questions aren't quite as hard as those in the recent official ACT preparation booklets, so I think the scaled scores from here would be a little inflated.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I purchased this book because math is my weakest subject on the act. I was scoring a 16 on the act test, I need a 20 for the promise scholarship in WV, it pays for your tuition. I just read some of the tips, and nothing else and it raised my score 1 point to a 17.Finally this summer I have used this book almost weekly, to get ready for the ACT test in September.

When I took the first diagnostic exam in the book it said an 16, I am on my second test and I received a 20! i am so excited because there is 3 mores tests to go and I think I will be able to raise it to maybe a 22, that way I feel like I can get at lest a 20 on the real test. In September I will tell you how it went.

Not only did I use it to practice fort the ACT but I also used it to practice for the COMPASS Math Test, I started with a 17 on the COMPASS, and raised it to a 44, I no longer would have to take a non credited math class in college. In my high school I need a 49 on the COMPASS test to taker College Algebra, I think with a little more practice I will get it before school starts.

I strongly suggest this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Real Act Prep
I haven't taken the ACT yet, so I can't say that it helped me to become a genius overnight, but it has been helpful in giving me a feel for what the test is like. If you want to practice for the ACT,buy this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars No substitute for the "real thing" ...
I've been actively involved in getting students ready for the ACT for many years - one thing for sure - there is NO substitute for a test made by the test makers.Kaplan and Princeton Review may be fine for some but I infinitely prefer this one.One warning - I've found more than one error in the keys (primarily in the math section). The key may have the wrong answer but the "explanation" usually has the correct answer.

I don't agree with some of the problem "strategies" but all in all this one is well worth the money.

5-0 out of 5 stars perfect, as promised
thanks for a timely delivery of this item. priced much less than on the official act site or in bookstores, it fits the ticket and is just what we needed.

2-0 out of 5 stars It's Ok, but not great..
Ok if your studying with friends.Print is too small, same size type as trivial pursuit.I purchased this for my daughter and she never used it.There are better options available to sudy for the ACT.

2-0 out of 5 stars Teeny Tiny 7point Typeface
Printed with 7 point typeface -- completely unnecessary eye strain.(7 point is smaller than the legal limit for fine print on most consumer contracts and advertising, for instance.) Most cards have 99% of the space blank -- plenty of room for a much larger typeface. Some cards need the tiny font size to fit a lengthy answer on the reverse, but there is no reason why ALL of the cards used such ridiculously small print.Don't plan to use these anywhere unless 1) you have strong direct light, and 2) you can hold the card close to your face.I haven't used the cards in earnest yet, the content seems useful enough from a quick flip-through.The cards are thin, but good quality otherwise.

3-0 out of 5 stars ACT help in a Box
I found these to be helpful...not to happy with the quality - should have been thicker - they bend and tear easily. Also I wish the print was bigger. It does say study to go...so maybe thats why they are smaller then regular flash cards.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kaplan review
Kaplan ACT flash cards:info was ok, but print/font on flash cards was VERY small and faint.Could have easily been printed so it was easier to read.

3-0 out of 5 stars Patience was Required
I was worried that I wouldn't receive this book b/c it arrived on the last day of the alloted time. ... Read more
