Product Description
Students preparing for the Advanced Placement U.S. History exam will welcome this set of flash cards, which offers them the flexibility to study history in ways not available from textbooks and study guides. 504 cards encompass the entire AP course, reviewing all key topics. Cards are numbered and labeled so that students can arrange them within a chronological time frame or according to any of seven categories. The cards run chronologically from the Colonial era of the early 1600s to the present day. The seven categories are: Arts and Sciences, Domestic Policies, Presidential Matters, Wars and Foreign Relations, Economy and Business, Legal Issues, and Society and Culture. Questions and answers on flash cards cover every significant aspect of U.S. history from Abolitionism and Articles of Confederation to the Yalta Conference and Zachary Taylor. Here is an efficient and productive way to brush up on facts for the Advanced Placement exam, and an ideal supplement to classroom textbooks. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
Far more helpful than some of the other AP flashcards or study helpers I have looked at. I love that they are divided by time and type of event (economic, presidential, society, ect...). I have found these quite helpful even for studying for tests throughout the year.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Cool Indeed
The notecards are helpful when you need to review information and do not have the time to scour a textbook. The notecards do not cover information in detail(as they are notecards)but they hit the best points which is all you can ask for when you're in a rush.

You can organize the information by categories, numbers(dates) and however else you want. They are hole-punched which is so much more helpful.

The information was pretty helpful especially with information I had forgotten and had never covered. It gave me the basis to do my own studying in the areas I was weak in.

I would recommend them---if you are actually going to use them.

5-0 out of 5 stars TG
This is a fabulous tool for any student taking AP US History. My daughter reviews these cards daily.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great addition
These cards are a really great addition. Highly recommend them for group studies or just easy practice whenever and wherever and a great way to see how much you KNOW about each specific topic instead of just reading a book and hoping you retain it.

4-0 out of 5 stars Valuable resource
I purchased these cards for my daughter when she was taking AP US History 2 years ago and now my son is taking the same course. Both of my kids use these as one of their primary study guides. My daughter got a 5 on her AP exam and B+ / A- during her AP US History class her Jr. year of high school. My son just got a B on his AP US History mid term for his class as well as his buddy who borrowed the cards to study with. Needless to say, these cards are quite helpful! My only complaint is that they aren't numbered so keeping them in order can be a bit tricky if you aren't meticulous with them.Put the card after it sideways, always, and it will be fine. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars good book
very power for the same of this books, I hope this book can help you too...

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book! But this shouldn't be your only study tool!
So I got this book about 2 months before the AP test.I opened it like 5 days before the AP test and started cramming and cramming non-stop.Please do not use this approach unless you find the world of Biology fascinating. The five days with this book, I must say, were torturous but very helpful. Now you need to understand that I probably have the worst AP Biology teacher imaginable, he covered 30% of the topics and did pointless labs the entire time.Anyway about the book, it is very well organized, no mistakes, errors, and probably the best substitute for a textbook.I got a 4 on the AP exam using this book and some released exams in 5 days work.

Now for many of you who can't settle for anything but a 5, I will tell you what you need.

Getting a 5:

- Get this Book
- Get released exams (easy to find, try this site:[...]) and do them all.
- Read this book once throughout the year. Then read the book again 3 weeks before the test until the test day.
- I can't stress the importance of not slacking off like I did. If you have a good AP Bio class (unlike me), do all the homework!

After the test, I felt pretty confident about getting a 5.I think not enough detail in the Free Response messed me up or something. But I am happy with a 4.I know a lot of people who would trade a 5 day study session to get out of a semester of freshman Bio.But getting that 5 would have got me out an elective Bio semseter UGHHH.....

oh.. and yea.. DONT GET CLIFFSAP unless you think you are already sweet at Biology. This book has a lot more important detail.

Getting you a 5 will only cost like the 13 bucks you pay for this book and a couple hours finding all those exams at that site (just make an account and start asking, people are really friendly.)

3-0 out of 5 stars quizes are helpful
the book gives the explanation in a good way [as a summary]. The most useful think about the book is that it gives you two practice test and a diagnostic test [made up of ap questions], it also has free-response questions =)

5-0 out of 5 stars You can score a 5 easily with this book
Now suppose your English essay writing is just average, and you keep getting B's in your AP Biology class (using Campbell's Biology). You do not need to worry. Just use Barron's AP Biology half an hour a day for 2 months and you will see the perfect result.

5-0 out of 5 stars It Couldn't Have Been Any Better
English is my second language and got a 5 in the exam. Before I got this book in April, I always had 3 in practice exams (finals at school). In class, my grades were C (first semester) and B (second semester).

The best thing about this review was that it was well-organized unlike many other reviews that the topics were all-over. This review started off with diagnostic test that had higher standard than the AP exam and finished off with answers in detail. In every chapter, it had enough graphs and figures to remember the detail figuratively rather than memorizing word-for-word. (Someone said that the number of diagrams was superfluous but I learnt much quicker with detail AND diagrams) For every important terms, it was in bold or italics so that I was more aware of what I was expected in the exam. The chapters finished off with multiple-choice questions which I knew whether that chapter was dead easy or I needed to reread the chapter pedantically. There were also few chapters that clarified the nature of the essay scoring. (The essay part can make a huge difference to your grade as an average AP Biology Free Response score is 3 out of 10). Also, the two model tests at the end are difficult but are helpful in the actual exam. (They are not confident booster) I got between 3 and 4 in the model test but managed to find the exam much much easier with a 5.

This is an excellent review book anyone struggling with AP biology. If you have the determination to engage in reading paragraphs and writing practice essays, this book can endorse you to get the highest grade in the exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars AP Biology Cliff Notes
I purchased this for my granddaughter, a junior, taking AP Biology in high school. She was so excited after reading the Cliff Notes for AP Biology because she could finally understand what she was learning.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Resource
This was a great review and study guide for the AP Biology exam. It was clear, concise, and covered everything I needed to know. I got a 5.

5-0 out of 5 stars DAT prep
Great summary for Biology. I'm an accountant going back for dental. This book was a great summary of biology topics. It has plenty of practice tests with good examples. If you can do everything in this book, you probably don't need college biology 1&2.

I try to save money w/ test prep by studying free off of websites and out of my old book. This is the best, most succinct resource I've found for preparation for a test (I'm sure also great for MCAT, AP, CLEP, etc). One regret: not getting AP Org Chem (didn't have as many reviews, but in hindsight I would have bought it).

Also check out Cliffs AP Chemistry...just as good.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great choice for studying!
If you are searching for a review book or the AP Biology exam, look no further.. you need to buy this book right now!

I recently took the Biology exam and this book has helped me learn material I was not taught in class, or review material I had forgotten. What I like about this book is that every section was not overcrowded with information. All the chapters were short (6-40 pages about) and to the point. All of the topics were explained perfectly that I was never confused about what I was reading. The book comes with useful sample questions at the end of each section so you can test yourself, and the questions and explanations are very helpful. I actually saw one question from the review book on my AP Exam, so you know their information is reliable.

The one thing I did not like about this book was the lack of figures, or graphics. I am a visual learner and I would have preferred more descriptive pictures, such as the ones in my actual AP BIO textbook, to better understand concepts. The figures they had were vague.

Anyway, they did a great job at enlightening me about plants, a subject I did not learn in class but was prevalent on the exam. Please choose this book for its benefits are enormous and you are guaranteed a 4 or a 5 if you read this book in depth.

5-0 out of 5 stars My Happy Review =)
I've been taking notes on this book, and you only take notes on the important things. I've been taking notes on almost EVERYTHING. This is probably one of the best sources to learn AP Bio from. It's full of stuff that you will NEED to know and it doesn't skimp on the details. It is also a quick way to learn and is very interesting. I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It made all other tests look like a joke
I recommend this to someone who gets 3-5's on practice Princeton tests. When I practiced on the exams in this book, they were more challenging (granted, I'm still in 8th grade, I don't know a lot about prep books)than many others. In fact, I used to get 5's on the princeton, but now I can barely get a 4 on this Barron's. However, after I used this book for a while, I decided to see my skill on Princeton tests (which people say are more similar to the REAL AP test). The Princeton tests became a joke. Before I took Barron's: 34/45 on MC and 38/54 on Free response; after I took barron's tests: 40/45 on MC; 45/54 on Free response. There was a sudden increase in scores, even though Barron had many questions that weren't gonna be on the real Ap test.

5-0 out of 5 stars Challenging but rewarding
This book has a thorough coverage of AP Calculus AB/BC. I used this book for the multiple-choice section and CollegeBoard's own materials for the free-response section. Most of my students scored 5. I also used some of its chapters for my IB Mathematics SL and HL students.

Most US high-school students feel calculus is too challenging for them since they did not have enough practice in algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus. The following is my suggestion: if you got at least an A in pre-calculus/trigonometry, you may want to learn calculus in high school; otherwise, wait until you get into the college.

Barron's AP Calculus over-prepares the students for the test a little bit. But that is not a bad thing. If you have used mathematical analysis problem sets written by Russian mathematicians, you will think that Calculus I/II taught in the US is way too easy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Preparation for Multiple-Choice Questions
I used this book solely for the multiple-choice practice problems, not the review or tests, so I can only vouch for the MC problems. The coverage of topics is both broad and deep, with well over 500 problems of varying difficulty. Taking the AP Exam, I felt confident, prepared, and familiar with every problem type. The only complaint I have is the lack of fully developed solutions to the MC problems. The short one- or two-line explanations were always enough to answer any of my questions, but for those struggling with the concepts, they may prove inadequate.

3-0 out of 5 stars Calc AB student
This book has its pros and cons.On the one hand, it has an incredible amount of practice problems (organized by chapter) and is well organized in that topics and practice problems specified for "just BC students" are well marked(However, arc length is on the AB syllabus, not just BC as this book says it is).The book also provides four practice tests for both AB and BC, more than you will find in any other Calculus prep book.

However, many of the practice problems found in the "end of the chapter practice problems," as well as in the practice tests, are not representative of questions that have come up on previous AP exams. In my AP Calc class, we did every college board released multiple choice section since 1978 as well as every free-response question given in the past 10 or so years.Though the practice tests given in this book are okay, and will provide good practice, it is evident Barrons did not do enough research into the AP Calculus exams themselves. Many of theproblems (though not all), are either too difficult, or simply too different from questions that you will actually encounter on the AP test to be very helpful.

I gave this book three stars because it CAN be helpful if used as extra practice-- as a supplement to any in-class preparation. However, I strongly discourage purchase of this book if you 1. don't have a good foundation for most of the calculus topics or 2. aim to self-study for the exam.As already noted in previous reviews of Barron's AP Calc prep books, their subject review is hard to understand, muddled with confusing language--Barron's simply makes no attempt to simplify their explainations.Furthermore, their "answers explained" sections at the end of practice problem sections and practice tests are short, often only one sentence long, rendering them useless most of the time.

The last complaint I have for this book is that Barron's provides no "AP scoring chart" for you to self grade and find your corresponding AP grade (1-5) at the end of a test.Granted, the other calc prep books I've looked at don't either, but it's an annoyance to not know where you stand after taking a practice test for 3 hours.

For those looking for better topic review, I would try Peterson's "Master the AP Calculus AB and BC" book.I hear the authors review is simplified and easier to understand for someone not so familiar with the material. For those who are familiar with the material and who want extra practice, this book isn't half bad, it is well organized and has unlimited practice problems--just don't get scared off by some of the tougher problems. The best practice, however, is past AP exams.Ask your teacher/school if they have any of them; if not, they're available on collegeboard.

5-0 out of 5 stars books for school
This is my first time buying on Amazon, and it was great. I can't believe how fast the book came, and it's in amazing condition. Thank you.(I hope my other 2 orders arrive the same way:)

5-0 out of 5 stars Great supplement to Stats Textbook
I found this book great review for the topics covered on the AP exam. After going through the textbook chapter, i would usually read the Barrons to reinforce it.But I must admit that the Barrons summary of the topics are a little brief, and might be confusing if you do not know what they are talking about. I would not recommend solely reading Barrons, but rather reading your textbook (or possibly 5 Steps to a 5) to understand the topic first before going to Barrons. Barrons always adds more in depth explanations and key points that may have not been included in the textbook.

As for the practice questions, they are really well written. Though they seem hard, and are actually harder than the ones on the official exam, they prepare you well. If you can answer these questions, you are going to ace the real ones.

I would highly recommend this book (along with your textbook) to prepare for the exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars AP Statistics

5-0 out of 5 stars If you want your students to earn college credit for AP Statistics - use this book!
Dr. Martin Sternstein has outdone himself again. With each new edition, this fabulous review book includes more topics, better explanations, more practice problems based on recent AP exams, improved rubrics, and better technology. This review book is far and away the best on the market.Professor Sternstein is a true master teacher.I use this review book religiously both throughout the school year as well as at test prep time.My students have been running a 90% pass rate on the AP Statistics exam - which compares nicely to the national 60% pass rate.Use this book - you won't regret it.Teacher Tip:Use this book in conjunction with Dr. Sternsteins flashcards - the kids love them!

5-0 out of 5 stars Daughter loves this help book
Bought for my daughter who is in AP Psych and she found it extremely helpful

5-0 out of 5 stars Barron's AP Psychology with CD
My son just finished the 10th grade.Midway through the year, he registered for an online Psychology class, not AP.We decided that it would be worth it to register for the AP Psychology test in May, knowing that his AP result could not hurt him and might help.Perhaps a month before the exam, we ordered this book.

There are two sample tests on paper and two on CD.These were great, because there was a table to key the missed questions to the subject areas. This helped to identify strengths and weaknesses. It is certainly easier to do this using the CD test, since the program tabulates that information for you; it is much quicker than manually scoring and matching up paper test results. If he uses an AP review book for any future classes, I would certainly pay the difference and get the CD.

The bottom line: he passed the AP exam.He was the only student in his online class, so no study partners, no class discussions, and not an AP course to begin with.I'm certain that taking the class was important, and provided the volume of information tested. But I think that this book helped him prepare to be tested, helped to fine tune areas where more study would help, and even provided some useful strategies (this was his first AP exam).

It was well worth the purchase price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works as expected
I bought this book for a an AP Psychology class I was taking that it was required for. Perhaps the most impressive thing was that I ordered this on a Friday from amazon while on a trip out of state. I needed it the following Tuesday and despite using basic shipping for $4.00, it was at my door that Sunday. I had expected to not receive till that Monday or Wednesday at least, so I was relieved.

The review book itself was informative and thorough. I was glad that my teacher had picked such a comprehensive text as a review, because it did helped me study and feel comfortable taking the AP test. Nothing really notable stands out about the book, other than that it is dry. I will not hold this against the authors, because for the quantity of information it packs into relatively few pages, this book is a gold mine for test takers.

To close up, the CD enclosed does work, and on Mac OSX (if you have Flash player), but I did not use it. Upon trying it, the test taking experience on the CD seems sound, so if that's what you want go for it. If you are just looking for an AP Psychology review book though, this is it.

Though I haven't tried the Princeton Review book, I do own the Barron's version of AP Prep for Chemistry as well. 5 Steps to a 5 was much more concise than Barron's, which turned out to be ridiculously difficult. This book was great for review and the questions and the rapid review at the end of each chapter were great. The practice tests were also good. If you go through the material thoroughly, you should be fairly well prepared but be ready to use this book to complement your course of study in school, rather than as a self study guide (for that, Barron's is probably better).
All in all, I was really satisfied with my purchase because I ended up with a 5 on the exam!
    Good luck!

    5-0 out of 5 stars 5 steps to a 5 ap chem 2010-11
The book came through the mail in perfect condition and it was delivered in a timely manner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best AP Review Book of the ones I've read
The "Disappointed" name tag refers to a review on another purchase, and that name tag now shows up on all my reviews. So, I'm not disappointed in this purchase at all -- here's the deal: I bought this book because I was so happy with the other 5 steps to a 5 books that I checked out from my local library (biology, physics, and calculus), that even though my library didn't have the one for chemistry, I decided I had to have it. I am currently reviewing it along with the Cracking the AP Chemistry Exam book from the library, and I am VERY happy I bought this book. The material is covered much better, AND I really like the Rapid Review at the end of each chapter. Between the material just plain being better covered, and the Rapid Review at the end of the chapters (and the practice tests of course), this book has made studying for the AP exam a breeze! Very highly recommended. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Using it for current 2010 APUS Class, hows it served for the 1st 1-2 weeks?
Not bad not bad. Only thing that ticked me off are the review question multiple choice answers are directly under the questions, making it hard to resist covering the answer and then accidently peeking. if it was one line down it would have been great.
Book itself, kind of more expensive about $2-3 more then the other study guides, i don't see it as anything special though i've never seen the other books.
If you want to save those $3, and spend that towards saving or faster shipping try it.
Otherwise give this book a shot, a less known publisher.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lives up to its title
This really is a how-to guide to getting a 5 on the AP exam. Whether looking for a quick refresher prior to the exam or a year-long study book, this book provides curt, informative reviews on the entirety of US History, as well as study materials for doing your best on the exam. Arrived quickly and as described.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great test help
My daughter found this extremely helpful in studying for her first AP test.No results yet but it wasn't due to lack of good material if she doesn't ace it.

    4-0 out of 5 stars 5 Steps to a 5 AP US History 2010-2011
Its concise, but I did find some mistakes. On page 69 the author correctly names the colonial governor of the Dominion of New England Edmund Andros, but a few paragraphs later he calls him "John Adros." On page 104 referring to the Marbury v. Madison Case, he states that Marbury's first name is "John" when it is William. Then in the "rapid review guide" on page 145 he mistakenly refers to Andrew Johnson as "Andrew Jackson." Hopefully I won't find anymore problems. Despite these somewhat minor mistakes, the book is good at summarizing American history.

5-0 out of 5 stars She'll be ready now!
My daughter is taking the tests soon. This is what she needed to prepare.
Delivery was as promised. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The #1 Resource for a 700+ Score on the SAT Subject Test
I tutor students for the SAT and ACT in San Diego.I wanted to find the best resource (most efficient + most helpful)to recommend to my students to use whenpreparing for the SAT Subject Test in U.S. History, so I bought this book (even though the title says AP)and used it myself to prepare in the spring of 2010 for the June 2010 Subject Test.I found it easy to use because the information is summarized.I memorized everything in the book and got a 780 on the test.Given that I didn't use any other resource aside from this book AND that I didn't take a U.S. History class, I would say that is rather amazing. It means that this book is right on target for what is on the test. When I took the test, there were only about 5-6 questions that I didn't know and those involved facts that weren't in the book. I only used the College Board published history tests (there are 2) for practice. That was it.This should be your #1 resource in preparing for the U.S. History Subject test.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
When this book first came, I was disappointed that it was so small. However, I found it was a handy and indispensable tool when studying for my AP US History exam. It actually predicted some of the questions and really helped me focus my studying! I highly recommend this book. It helps for not only the AP exam but also the US history SAT II. You can supplement it with a bigger book like Princeton Review.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Study Aid! Highly Recommended
I'm absolutely ecstatic about this book. I swear that this book was what got me a 4. My teacher wasn't very good and she basically told us to read/outline this textbook that was very long and hard to gather important facts. I bought this book a few weeks before the exam and the weekend before and each day before the exam I read a part of each section and then reviewed the things I was fuzzy on.

The author analyzes each test that collegeboard releases and compiles the information that they will most likely test you on your exam. I took my practice exam a week before I got this book and I realized that there were answers almost word for word in this book within each outline. The great thing is that it is easy to read and one can quickly review sections in history that they aren't too familiar with.

The book even went so far as to make section separate sections on Women's History, African American History, and Native American History which all make up a large portion of multiple choice questions and usually a few free-response questions.

My school provided my class with Barrons books to use. I found the book at times too wordy and the practice questions were too specific. The crash course book only puts in information that has been on previous tests and information that will probably come up on your test. This book even noted in the margins that there are questions that will trick you and it is vital to know a certain fact and to not mix it up. I breezed through the multiple choice because I had just read the facts in the book that previous week. The book also had a section to help with planning for the DBQ.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who may need a quick refresher on certain parts of history. It is a great study aid to revive those facts from U.S History 1 and to brush up on Women's, Native American, and African American history.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brief, accurate, well-organized
While students need a good survey text for AP U.S. History, when it comes to the month before the exam in May, they need concise, clear information. After the exam, my students often have raved about this Crash Course book because of its accessibility and its efficiency in covering all of the course topics. I recommend it highly.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the one to buy.
Honestly, I thought I was dead. The AP History test had backed me into a corner. Focused on senior projects, AP Calculus, and AP English Lit, I had placed the US History exam on the back burner. Moreover, my class was anything but productive (though my teacher tried, bless her heart). Pressed for time and desperate to learn, I went to the bookstore to look for study guides in a last ditch effort. I came across the Princeton Review guide, Barron's 8,000 page masterpiece, Kaplan's guide, 5 Steps to a 5... you name it. Everything looked the same to me. I was about ready to settle with my textbook when the REA Crash Course guide caught my eye. It looked short, which raised some red flags. However, with nothing to lose, I decided to buy it anyways.

I was swamped with other work, I was out of hope, and my class wasn't productive. Even so, I wound up earning a high 4, and I owe most of my success to this book.

I don't think anybody- from the history gurus who need a bit of tuning up, to the students who study and study to barely get by- would not do better after reading this book. In fact, I think that most will do significantly better. The guide is organized with key terms, chronological outline review, and hints for multiple choice, essay, and database questions. The key terms offer critical definitions and facts that cannot be missed, while the the outline is essentially the notes you wish you'd taken in the first place. Throughout are key quotations, historical figures, and the like. What makes this guide special is not its historical breadth or precision; rather, it is the attention to AP-relevant detail that makes it shine. There are no wasted words here. The tips about which battles to know and what events to memorize were spot-on, and often times while taking the exam, I smiled when I came across things that, without the REA guide, would have been alien to me. The final thing that this book does well is give the reader confidence. Reading the whole thing is do-able for everyone, while the tone used makes passing the exam seem not only altogether possible, but probable. For a study guide crammed with information, it is a rather comforting read.

As other reviewers have said, if one wants to truly shine on the US History exam, supplementing this with another guide is a phenomenal choice. However, simply using it with a textbook should yield great results. I would suggest reading through before a practice exam and again near the actual exam time so that things remain fresh. The bottom line is this- the REA APUSH Crash Course Guide is a quality product that will help every student on their quest to pass a formidable exam. Trust the other reviews, trust me, and pick up a copy.

4-0 out of 5 stars seems great
Arrived fine, won't know truly how it is until after the AP test. :)Seems helpful.

    4-0 out of 5 stars AP Biology--5 steps to a 5
My son is very excited about having this book to help him study through the year.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended for all Students
This book is very lucid and very detailed. It has all key concepts tested on the ap bio test, as well. I have used many study aids over the years, but this is by far one of the my favorite. Not only does this book completely cover the material, but also summarizes everything at the end of the chapter.

The author also includes many pictures that clearly illustrate the topics at hand. Although some of the jokes are corny, it does lighten the subject for the reader-- not a solid block of text.

I highly recommend this book for students, who wish to do well on the ap test. This book will not disappoint.

5-0 out of 5 stars best ap bio book ever!!
Trust this book when it says you don't have to know every single detail of your textbook to get a 5. I did, and I did get a 5.

Let's just say I had no idea of how much I had to know for the exam, because I was taking an online course. I had no teacher to prepare me, so I decided to buy three review books for ap bio. Out of the 3 books, this was certainly the best. It gave me just what I needed: a complete, thorough, and fun to read review; practice tests that were extremely similar to the real exam; and it told me how much I had to get right in each section of the exam to get a 5.

The cliffs book was not nearly as good as this one, but the Princeton review was pretty good. So if you're thinking of getting more than one of these review books, my suggestion is 5 steps and Princeton review.

If you do a practice test on this book and do well, you can be sure you'll do just as fine in the real exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick and Explanatory - Perfect for a 5
I bought this book 9 days before the exam. It's an easy read compared to the textbook and nicely sums up all of the important concepts. It also has a useful glossary in the back. Overall a really good book to use for a < 2 week review.
    I'm nearly sure that I'm getting a 5

Edit: I got a 5. Knew it. Buy this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars AP Biology Flash cards
This book was in excellent condition and the service is really good. I like the Amazon.com services.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Useful for the AP Biology Exam <3
I loved these cards--they helped me ace the exam!

It's a good supplement to your textbook; but should not be used alone!

If anything, should be used as a review of the real deal-- your textbook and perhaps barrons AP Biology book.

Nevertheless (I being an avid reader of both Cambell & Barrons Bio), found these flashcards to be extremely helpful in reviewing for the AP Bio exam =)

4-0 out of 5 stars Good review tool
If you've ever taken an AP class before, you know the crazy periods of studying that occur right before the exam. Prep books, class notes, textbooks (heavy, oh god), the whole lot. Carried around everywhere.

This box set of flashcards is a very nice addition to study materials for the exam. I would recommend this set to anyone who is reviewing for the exam, but I did not find that is was useful for learning and last minute facts.

Here's a rundown: Inside the box are 500 flashcards. Each has a small hole in it, so you can slide a set on the included ring. The ring is NOT big enough to hold all 500, but you can easily put a whole larger topic (or a few smaller ones) onto it at one time.

The flashcards are not vocab flashcards, with one word on each side. The front has a concept, and the back has a couple of bullets of information. A couple even have diagrams, like the parts of the cell or a drawing of a dicot stem verses a monocot stem. You have to quint to see where a few of the arrows point, but it's not too bad.

As I saw it, the box set did a pretty decent job of covering all the major areas of biology. It even included a couple of cards on the labs that might be tested.

One thing to keep in mind is that these cards are really useful only if you already know the material. If you find that you don't understand a topic very well, and are looking to review materials to help you get that extra bit of information to put all the pieces together, then these flashcards will not help. The information is brief and devoid of in depth explanation like some of the study books have. If you need more of a 'mini-lesson', then I would suggest getting a real prep book. Barrons makes very thorough ones, but there are other types available.

In short, the flashcards are a good tool to help in preperation for the AP exam, but you definitely need to allow some time to work through all 500.

5-0 out of 5 stars bio cards are great!!!
My step son got them for Christmas and he loves them. They have helped him out alot!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Two Top Flash Card Products for AP Biology
I agree with another reviewer that this is one of the top two flash card products for AP Biology; the other being AP Biology Flashcard Quicklet: Flashcards in a Book for Biology Students. I have used both and here is my review:
    1. This Product: This is very good if you like loose cards. The order of the topics covered is rather random. Some cards are very brief, that is, may be for brevity. You have lot of space on the cards to write. There are enough number of cards. You should have already prepared from a Study Guide before trying these cards.

    2. AP Biology Flashcard Quicklet: Flashcards in a Book for Biology Students. This is very good if you like flash cards in a book. The answers to the questions are very comprehensive and self-contained. The topics and cards are presented in a logical order. It's an excellent tool for a quick review if you have already prepared from a Study Guide. Because the cards are self-contained, you can use this book with any study guide or without any atudy guide. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Rigorous and rewarding
I ordered this book thinking it was going to be another typical Barron's review book. It wasn't - I have to say I paid little attention in this class because my teacher explained things well enough to remember for the test. When it came to preparing for the AP test, I forgot almost everything - I did the practice questions on College Board and failed.

I went through this book, maybe taking 75% of the information (there is WAY too much info, so just be a good judge of what you should know based on what you learned in class). I got a 5 - the actual test was very easy to me.

And I will be heading to Princeton next year :D. Good luck to all! Seriously recommend this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Needlessly complex, covers necessary material.
Not including the errors everyone else has mentioned, this book is needlessly difficult. The exercises it presents are much more complicated than the AP itself, furthermore many of the topics which the book tests you on are not actually on the AP. The morning of the AP I opened this book andfound 3 random multiple choice questions on a page. I could not answer any of them. Upon taking the AP, I answered all of the questions but one confidently and received a 5. This book did nothing for me but scare me out of my mind and make me grab all sorts of weaponry to make war upon this test when I was fully prepared to take it. Waste of time and money. On the positive side it does cover all the material, but so does your textbook...

2-0 out of 5 stars Riddled with errors
Beware! The sample test questions and answers are riddled with errors.Within the first 7 questions of Diagnostic Test 1, 2 of the questions contain errors that make the "correct" answer incorrect.I suggest skipping this book.Get a good chemistry text (Chang's 10th edition) and study from that.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid review book but loaded with errors.
I really like Barron's review books because their philosophy is that they teach you the subject matter.Princeton Review books on the other hand are about "cracking the test" and does offer good tips, but if I were to get one book, it'd be Barron's because learning the subject is the surest way to getting a good score.Having said that, the book is LOADED with errors and for that I deduct 1 star... anything from just typing the wrong character ("=" instead of '-') to wrong answers, wrong set-ups, decimal places in wrong place, missing decimal places... you get the idea. It's as if the whole Chemical Equilibrium chapter was edited by someone who wanted to sabotage the student.I am not kidding. But the thing is, if you reasonably know the concepts, you'd catch the mistakes because the mistakes are in the examples and not in the concept explanations.Don't be scared away because of the typos, but just know they are there. In the final analysis, it is still a valuable book to me and I like it despite its faults.

2-0 out of 5 stars Review material decent, but with a plethora of errors
While it can be argued that this book does what it is intended to - provide a review of chemistry as preparation for the AP - it is difficult to justify several glaring issues with it.
    1. Mistakes in the book - For a book coming from a company as well-known as Barron's, and for a test as widely taken as the AP Chemistry exam, one would expect that this book would be well-written and carefully checked over for errors. Instead, nearly every two or three pages there are errors that, while not immediately noticeable, can cause a good deal of confusion, especially when they involve miscalculations in example problems or chapter exercises.
    2. Example problems - Errors in the problems aside, one would also expect that for a test that does not allow calculators the example problems in this book would be similar to those on the test; that is, they would be doable by hand. Instead, as other reviewers have pointed out, the problems expect you to do such calculations as negative logs and exponents without a calculator, which is totally unrealistic.
    3. Over preparation - While I heartily agree that it is better to go into a test over prepared rather than under prepared, Barron's takes it to an extreme. Not only are there equations in the book that will almost certainly not be taught in an AP Chemistry course, let alone appear on the AP test, the level of detail the book goes into frequently ends up making the information cryptic and difficult to comprehend instead of lucid and clear. Indeed, the sheer length of the book is comparable to that of an AP Chemistry textbook, which makes it less than ideal for simply reviewing material before the exam.

Overall, this book will prepare you for the AP test. However, you will in the process be confronted with a tidal wave of typos, calculation errors, poorly written questions, and far more information and detail than is necessary. I'd expect better from Barron's. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars contradictory; style unlike the AP test
Some of multiple choice contradicts my textbook, and some of my textbook contradicts AP multiple choice.AP Government has always been somewhat of a murky subject, and this book will only further cloud your good Gov't and Politics judgment. The questions are not average AP style (for example, there are no I, II, III type questions on the test, and the wording for some questions I feel are huge grammar disasters). The sample free-response as well, were so odd that I did not even bother to answer them.Do the AP Central AP Gov't FRQs instead of any review books; since it's straight from the source itself, it gives you a better idea of what to expect.

The general overview before each section is fine for those needing to refresh their memories. The Supreme Court cases they summarize is also extremely useful, though they tend to list some really unimportant ones.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND this book because it is not a good test preparation booklet, in that it does not mimic AP style well, and its general overview is not so outstanding that you couldn't find it in another review book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid AP review book
As an A.P. American Government teacher, I highly recommend this book.In fact, there are only three review books I allow my students to access, and this is one of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Used copy of Barron's AP Govt.
This book will help my son prepare for tests throughout the year, in additon to the AP test.Book arrived on time and in the condition
    stated.Thank you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Way too long
This book has too much useless information and even some wrong facts. It is not a good review, because it is not organized to be read fast. The author gets into too much theory, etc., which goes beyond the AP test.

3-0 out of 5 stars a pretty thorough review for the AP exam
although this book was meant to be read along with a textbook throughout the school year, i had not bought it until a few weeks before the actual exam. It helped a lot and covered all the subjects very well. The only thing is that the chapters are extremely long and provide more examples than necessary. The questions are definitely a lot harder than whats on the exam so if you pass the practice tests, you're sure to score well on the AP exam. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Barron's AP Eng Lang and Comp
Not only did I get exactly what I ordered for a fairly cheap price, I also got it EARLIER than the expected arrival date with FREE shipping. Amazon is a great company and I would recommend it for any book needs. Thanks again!!

2-0 out of 5 stars not necessary
I'm not saying this book wouldn't be helpful, I'm just saying that it's not really needed. Most of the information is on either writing essays or the full-length practice exams. For the essays, practice makes perfect, and as for the exams, you can find those online for less money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Barrons AP English
This is a book that my son needed for school. The only problem I had was it took a long time to receive. I had to go out and try to purchase one for him before it arrived of course locally I couldn't get one because all the kids needed them and there wasn't any to buy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Among the best available
I am a parent with a high school junior taking the AP English Lang class...I do have a background in Rhetoric, just so you know where I'm coming from. This product is among the best.It has a "fair" amount of review material (some similar products have none) that can be used to supplement what is done in the classroom, and has an excellent selection of "test" material (literature from which the multiple choice questions come, and excellent essay sections as well). The problem with all of these AP Language review texts is that they all cover different concepts. It's good to use Barron's along with "5 Easy Steps to a 5" (or something like that) and/or Kaplan's.If I could only select one, I'd go with Barron's.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great
I took the AP last week and think that I did well. This book is not the greatest content wise, but I feel that the practice exams are unmatched and the sample essay prompts really helped me know what to expect and how to form a decent essay. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing comprehensive review!
My AP Econ teacher wanted us to buy this book as a replacement to the textbook but in the end decided to use the other McGraw Hill review guide. But I had already bought this.

I was frustrated with some concepts so I turned to this book as a last resort.

    BEST BOOK EVER.

It is written in colloquial terms. This book really helped me understand Micro and Macro. I used this book according to what we were doing in class throughout the year. I hilighted like crazy and made tons of notes also.

It helped me do so well in the class, especially the tests.

When it came time for the AP Exams, I reread this book. I went back and read everything, made flash cards, reread my sidenotes.

I got my exam results back today and I got A 5 ON BOTH EXAMS! :]

It is a very comprehensive guide. Although, like with most concepts, you have to reread chapters several times. But that's not because of the book but because Economics the subject.

If you are deciding between any other book and this one, and you are the detail-oriented and/or studious type who likes things explained step-by-step then BUY THIS BOOK!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
I bought this book for the Microeconomic CLEP and it was well worth the money!! I would suggest this, and even other editions, to anyone who need to study in a hurry!

5-0 out of 5 stars great review overall
hey, so I took ap micro and ap macro last May. 5 steps to a 5 has done a great job on reviewing the topics. The practice problems and practice exams are well representative to the real exam. I was shocked to see how similar the free responses were on the real AP exam. They were almost the same. Piece of advice, know how to do every single question in the practice exam and you will do well on the AP exam. Don't think that it won't appear on the test, because it will. The only problem I had was that ap micro was after ap macro and I didn't have time to go back and review ap micro plus this year's micro was harder than previous year. I thought I had a solid 5, but I think I am either getting a 3 or 4. However, I am pretty confident that I am getting a 5 on ap macro. Great book, buy it and you won't regret.

edit: I got 5 on both micro and macro, buy this book ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Study Material
Excellent way to review information about a time period or society without having to find information in the more wordy textbook I use for class.Great summaries, timelines, and other organizers to present information.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good for "Nuts and Bolts"
I teach AP World History, and I bought this guide for one of my students who was not able to afford one. And, after he used it to raise his scores overall, I concluded that it was a good "nutshell" and took a harder look at it.

Apart from the fact that I have several national colleagues who recommend it, my thoughts are that this book does an excellent job explaining - in very easy, even calm - language just "how" to tackle multiple choice and essay questions on the AP World History examination. However, it is weak on content. So, the other reviewer in this thread is exactly right when he suggests that this nutshell and the Princeton (and I would add Kaplan) should be purchased as a set.Together and used diligently as the AP World History course progresses, I cannot see how they would fail to provide something of a "boost," as well as making the student more confident as he or she works through the review exercises.

But, IMPORTANT NOTE.There is a distinct possibility that the College Board may be making significant changes to the format of the AP World History examination starting in academic year 2011-2012.So, if you are thinking about a "used" purchase in that year or later, please check the College Board's website to make sure that this book or earlier printings will serve. It likely will not, at least for any essay portion, so it is something to bear in mind before the money is spent!

5-0 out of 5 stars Does what it says on the tin
This is a great, concise, prep for the AP, esp. if you / your child are not in a class that teaches *how* to take the AP. It gives very clear guidelines as to how to answer the questions (there are marks for specific elements of the answer), and an overview of the thematic approach. The Princeton Review book has more actual subject review, and is a good complement to this one, but I would highly recommend getting them as a pair. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Deal!
This was in the condition stated and was a great deal! I'm so glad I could find it on Amazon!

1-0 out of 5 stars Very superficial
This book in no way prepared me for the AP European History test. The information it reviewed was much too often watered down and did not present the detail required for the actual test. I found the content lacking in terms of important details such as names, dates, and reasons why events occured. When I bought this I thought the practice tests would be a useful study tool but let me assure you that they are NOT. The questions are oversimplified and nothing like what will be on the actual test. If you want real review I would suggest Princeton's version or a Cliff Notes edition. This book was in no way helpful due to its oversimplification. I ended up skimming what I didn't know from the actual textbook. I recieved a 5 on the test but give no credit to this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cream of the crop, as far as AP Euro review books are concerned...
I've tried my fair share of AP European History review books, and "Barron's" definitely takes the win. From my experiences with Cliffs, I've found their multiple choice questions to be a notch or two below AP level, but their summaries to be VERY helpful. I think this one is the best mix. The chapter summaries are a bit vague, but you can always use your class notes as a supplement. Highly recommended & well worth the money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good book to use throughout the year
I just took the European History Exam this year and i didnt get my score yet but i feel like i did really well. I used the previous version of this book but this one is probably even better.

If you like short, organized, and main points then this is for you b/c the type of questions they ask on the A.P. test are like the ones in this book. (a bit easier though).

1-0 out of 5 stars should have just gotten PR
This book sucks, if you don't believe me just go look in section 3 of the review at Barnes and Nobles.

Ok in section three they talk about Absolutism in France, England, and mention the 30 years War and Spanish exploration. Yet they have in the review questions for the section a question about Peter the Great's beard tax though they probably used about 30 words on Russia the entire book up to that point and all of it was on serfdom. Their other review questions are extremely unrealistic. for example:

"That the Anglican Church broke from Rome before altering Roman Catholic Dogma indicates that
    A. Henry wanted a divorce, which the Pope would not grant.
B.Henry's lust for Anne Boleyn motivated him to reject his devout Catholicism
    C. many facotrs including resentment of papal abuses contributed to the English reformation."

The other answers were stupid so i don't want to type them out. But apparently the answer is C. The book says for the explanation "The simplistic interpretation of Henry's personal motivations as the prime cause for the English reformation ignores other important factors." Yet the entire review of the English reformation talked about Henry wanting a divorce. The did not mention a single time "other factors" in England. They simply said Henry was a Devout Catholic who did not believe in Lutheranism and only wanted a reformation to get his heir. The book just contradicts itself.

Also once it mentioned the English Reformation and next to it said "(See Page 64)" And on page 64 there was only the answers to a previous review of the Renaissance and their explanations. I doubt anybody even read this book before it was published.

Also, i needed help on reviewing the English Revolution and Glorious Revolution. The book doesn't not mention the various religions of many of the kings/revolutionaries so it is hard to understand. The book is also written using very confusing language like, "The Gunpowder Plot, 1605, was uncovered by disgruntled Catholics, led by Guy Fawkes and objecting to Jame's enforcement of laws that required participation in Anglican services, could blow up the King and Parliament." My normal text book did not mention this plot so this raises more questions than it answers like was James I Catholic since his mom was? (unanswered.) Why were the Catholics disgruntled? Who were they mad at? What was the plot? Who started it? who was trying to blow up who??????? uhhhh it just sucks.

Don't buy this book i would be farther along with wikipedia ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Okay
It has a lot of good practice tests and prompts, but there's too little on effective strategies. If you like the saturation approach, this is good, but if you're looking to refine your skills and find advice on how to get top points, don't choose this book.

This book has to be the most concise, straightforward review out there. I was a freshman when I took AP English online, and I know that without this book, I would not have gotten a 5 on the AP exam!
