Comprehensive preparation for the Graduate Management Admission Test begins with an overview and introduction to the GMAT, which is a computer-adaptive test. A diagnostic test with answers precedes an extensive Â"Correct Your WeaknessesÂ" section, which presents separate chapters on essay writing, reading comprehension, sentence correction, critical reasoning, and math. Two full-length practice tests with questions that reflect recent GMATs come with answers, analyses, and directions for evaluating the test takerÂ's score. The manualÂ's concluding section discusses business school basics, with advice on choosing a school, coping with the application procedure, financing a business school education, and entering the job market. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars This books is worth every penny
This is perhaps one of the oldest and one of the best books to learn all the concepts and techniques. If you are on a budget, for this price you'll get many times worth the money you spend. It has ample practice exercises and tests, much more than any other book. It's a thick book and every page is almost fully covered. If you still think you need more help, consider Kaplan or Princeton Review. If you need more detailed material, consider EZ GMAT series and/or Manhattan.

2-0 out of 5 stars Review if decent - practice questions are weird compared to OG
I did not find the book very helpful.
The practice questions are strange compared to OG. They are sometimes wrong, sometimes asked in a confusing way. I went through the OG, and never encountered those kind of questions.
I would not recommend the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Full of mistakes and the CD fails
The book gets one star, rather than zero, because the basic math review was worth the information. However, it's easier and cheaper to find that information for free on the net.

The practice problems were full of errors, both in the math and English sections, though the later was much worse than the former. They used illogic and misreading of clearly printed text in supporting incorrect answers.

I thought that was bad, then I turned to the CD. The problems weren't proofread. Many math problems had missing labels on images. Meanwhile, the English problems had incorrect or missing underlining of sentence correction problems, grammatical errors and other basic issues. Even worse, the long reading comprehension texts and questions were all jumbled, as the tests kept jumping back and forth between texts rather than giving all questions for a text immediately after the text.

The interface was poor and coding characters kept appearing on the left-hand side. I finished one section of a test just as someone called and needed me to head somewhere. I couldn't save the test status and it lost the information. The next two times I tried taking the tests, both of the CAT test froze and couldn't be completed. The second test did so on the fortieth problem of the English section -- after I'd wasted hours. I could never complete, and therefore couldn't even score, either test.

Nobody should by a Barron's book. The people behind it seem to either not know or not care about how to create a proper practice environment.

3-0 out of 5 stars Average
I am actually not very happy with this book. The review is very confusing and explaining math and verbal together, which I find hard to follow.

2-0 out of 5 stars Makes my Head Hurt
If you don't have fundamentals down in math and verbal skills there is no way to cram or memorize made up standardized test questions and expect to do well on the GMAT. This Kaplan book is packed with page after page of questions without explaining the background. It just assumes the reader and future test taker will have that knowledge and be able to figure out their mistakes, which in some ways is understandable, but in other ways is incredibly frustrating.

As so many other reviews have already mentioned, this edition has very few changes or even corrections. It is like buying a 6'th edition Physics or Calculus book in college, when the only difference between the 5'th edition is a new intro from a different professor and having the chapters all mixed around. There is no new information, insight, clarifications or even corrections. The new edition is just there for income generation.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Good Study Guide - And The CD Works Fine, Thank You
If you're planning to take the GMAT, you're going to buy a study guide, and this might as well be it. Personally, I prefer it to Barron's because of the larger font and better layout... being easier on the eyes is important during late-night study sessions. I withhold my fifth star simply because this book is essentially only a book of practice questions - recent college graduates should find all they need here, but those of us who spent time in the workforce may need more remedial instruction than this book provides.

As far as the bundled software is concerned... I popped the CD into my Windows 7 machine, double-clicked Setup, and chose not to make shortcuts. When all was said and done, an error appeared, so I clicked "This program installed correctly". I then browsed my hard drive and opened "Kaplan GMAT CD Companion.exe". It worked: multiple full-length and topic-focused practice tests were available. As these extra exams are truly what distinguish Kaplan's book from the competition, I feel it necessary to belabor this point: THE CD WORKED FINE UNDER WINDOWS 7.

3-0 out of 5 stars GMAT tool
I've just begun running through this kit and appreciate it's layout and the way it teaches you about the test, the patterns of questions and expectations of contant.I was dismayed that a GMAT 2010-2011 doesn't support Windows 7, since it is ubiquitous of almost every computer purchased today. I'll follow up after I take the GMAT, but it's a decent tool, to be used amoung other online reference tools.

4-0 out of 5 stars Never to early to study for grad school
My son was interested in studying for college and grad school. These should begin his prep towards taking those exams.

3-0 out of 5 stars Iffy product
1. CD only works with XP.

2. Content is the same as the 2009 book.

3. Hmmmm...there's actually not much content despite it being a 1000 page book.

4. The online content, via the registration code in the book, is far more useful.

So, you get a registration code and over two pounds of scratch paper. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Stripped down version of Kaplan Premier - missing the best parts
Kaplan GMAT 2011: Strategies, Pracitce, and Review VS. Kaplan GMAT 2011 Premier

This book is actually a stripped down version of Kaplan Premier and in my view is a losing choice:
- Missing 4 tests (it has 1 paper test and 1 online vs 1 paper and 5 online)
- Missing the Math Review section (Kaplan Premier has a neat Math Refresher section)
- Missing all of the expert tips and points (which are actually quite valuable, as I realized when they were taken away) - see one of the images I uploaded - these are small call outs on the margins, which usually provide interesting tid bits of information and often very helpful ones in the explanations section

The only positive aspect I can find is the Price: $16.55 vs $26.39 (but the missing parts are so worth the extra $10).

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but not thorough enough, especially for high score
A good book to start and build confidence but not thorough enough. Still it's better than the other books that are littering the bookstores, in my opinion it wouldn't help to get a 700+ score, for more depth and thorough details go with Manhattan SC hands down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Book for SC-KAPLAN LIES
This is by far the best book I have seen for SC.
This book goes into details which will definitely get you score more points in SC.

Highly Recommended. Go buy it you won't be disappointed.

I did private tutoring with Kaplan and their VERBAL is appalling.

MOREOVER KAPLAN BLATANLTY LIES. KAPLAN BLATANTLY LIES.

PLS DONT GO FOR KAPLAN PRIVATE TUTORING OR CLASSROOM COURSES. THEY SAY IN THEIR WEBSITE THAT YOU CAN TAKE COURSES FOR FREE AGAIN AND AGAIN NO MATTER HOW MANY POINTS YOU WANT TO IMPROVE USING THEIR HIGH SCORE GUARANTEE. BUT YOU CAN TAKE HSG ONLY ONCE AND AFTER THAT YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE COURSE OR ONLINE ACCESS.

KAPLAN LIES AND IF I CAN CONVINCE ATLEAST 1 STUDENT NOT TO TAKE KAPLAN COURSES, I HAVE SUCCEDED BECAUSE COMPANIES WHO BLANTALY LIE TO GET BUSINESS SHOULD NOT EXIST.

I DO UNDERSTAND KAPLAN LYING AND THIS BOOK HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE REVIEW, BUT I WANT TO INFORM EVERYBODY AS HOW KAPLAN LIES WHERE EVER I CAN

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome Book!
I just recently studied for the GMAT and I have seen a lot of various books and by far this one is the best for increasing your score on sentence correction. It is packed with great examples and is easy to read and follow.I would recommend this book to anyone studying for the GMAT.A+++++

5-0 out of 5 stars Suck at SC?? No problem!
This book saved my GMAT score. I took classes, studied by myself, and struggled with sentence correction but none of them worked until this book. This book will teach you american english from the ground up and the book also includes useful practice questions and detailed explanations. The book really pushes you to think like a GMAT test writer and helps you to spot all the errors. Get this book for your sentence correction and look at the manhattan GMAT quants for your math.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best GMAT book I have used
I used the pwoerscore series when I thought I wanted to be a lawyer and took the LSAT. They were awesome and really helped me to improve my score. When I decided I wanted an MBA I of course got the most popular series and that was the GMAT Review. That was a horrible disappointment, and while I had a lot of problems for practice I still did not have a good understanding of what specific types of grammatical or mathematical issues the GMAT would be testing. Since I had a strong grasp on critical reasoning and reading comp, where I was lacking was sentence correction. I turned back to this trusted series and again I am incredibly impressed by the detail and the depth they go into. I also really appreciate the progression of the book and how it helps you really grasp individual grammatical issues that will be tested in the GMAT. My verbal score has improved a lot because of this book! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Average - Don't waste your money
This book is fairly useless for anyone who knows the basics about applying to business school - Where to register for thr GMAT, How much it costs, Rescheduling the test etc. All this information is pretty much available online, you don't need a book for that. It doesnt really provide a "1-Month-Study-Plan" as the name seems to suggest. It gives a very high level overview of the topics and by no means does it even cover 50% of the topics. I thought it was a total waste of money. I would stick to online forums and studying actively.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical GAMT Guide for Busy Professionals
First, this guide is not a "study guide" for the GMAT, the way you might think. Instead, the author has given exam candidates all the information they need to sign up, study, and take the exam.

This guide is perfect for people that are busy (like all of us) and don't know where to start. First, the author covers how to sign up for the exam, and what you can expect when you take it.

There are a lot of really good tips in the book that I didn't know, like, for example, that the GMAT is different from the SAT in that incorrect answers are not detrimental to your overall score.

The book also gives you a practical study timeline and an easy way to approach each section of the exam. The author suggests purchasing the OFFICIAL GMAT study guides, and then he gives you the best way to QUICKLY study and prepare for the exam so you can pass and get on with your life.

This is a very practical and useful guide for anyone who needs to take the GMAT and get it done with a minimum of fuss.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Review Guide I've read in a long time!
I purchased this book and saw right away that the learning techniques in it were exactly my style. Items were presented in a concise and organized manner, and it made it very easy to follow. There's a ton of useful information, and it helped me score pretty high on a practice GMAT. I'll be taking the test in a few days and I hope to score just as high on the real thing. Great Book! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Last minute miracle
I purchased this book only about a month and a half before I was scheduled to take the GRE because the prep course that I took did not go into as much detail as I would have liked about the writing section. They told me how it was graded and what makes a strong essay versus a weak one, but this book made it practical. I appreciated the dissection of the issue essay and the arguments essay. I needed a structure to input my thoughts quickly and that is what I got with this book. I got stuck on starting and ending that I wasted precious time. When the day of the test came I had more time left over to proof-read and revise my essays, and I was satisfied with my score.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good, but not as great as other reviewers claim
This book is useful for understanding what the GRE is asking for and providing clues on rhetorical devices to use. However, I can't verify that what it tells you is correct, since I only received a 4.0 score. Additionally, the book is a little out of date but this only really effects the description of the test rather than its advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth Every Penny
This book was an indispensable resource in writing the GRE analytical writing section. What helped me most were the clear and concise descriptions outlining proper essay structure, along with actual example essays implementing these concepts. For my undergrad degree, I never got above a C in any English class. I studied this book for about 10 hours, and scored a 4.5 in the section.

You won't be disappointed.- Engineer

5-0 out of 5 stars My argument essay was in this book verbatim
I bought this book about a month before my test. I only used it like 4 days before my test. The night before I knew there wasn't much I could do so I just read as many of the essays as I could so I could get in my head how to "run" with issues and make some arguments. So the next morning I'm taking my test and one of the argument essays was MY argument essay word for word. I was so excited! Of course I didn't remember the essay word for word but I remembered the arguments and had ample time to add my own. The book was definitely worth the money :)

2-0 out of 5 stars Not as good, some helpful tips though
While it provides some useful tips for better essays for GRE, some sample essays are logically flawed. (yes, I was surprised to find that out while the author claimed he wrote the essays "not" within time frame). For example. Page 68. Sample Response for issue 1. Moreover, ETS has edited their pools of topic and the topic won't allign with the sample responses in the book. The book's claimed up to date web-page is not up to date either. May be because it has been 6 years from the date of publication.

So I would suggest you to study official PowerPrep from ETS first. It really helps. After all, they are the one who's gonna test you. So you gotta play their game to score.

Then, if you still have time and some bucks (around $ 15.00) buy this book and read. Good luck with your GRE or GMAT. Cheers :) ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The most complete GMAT Math Guide hands down but not very friendly
I am the founder of GMAT Club and top 1000 reviewer on Amazon - I have seen a lot of GMAT books and also reviewed pretty much all of them. This is a single most complete book that includes everything you need to get a solid score on the quant (you should also get the OG 12, and the author recommends it as well). It is also not a book that just came out of nowhere, Total GMAT math has been available as an ebook for about 4 years now and I am glad to see it is finally available in the print format. However, it does assume a greater level of general math knowledge as well as commitment than most GMAT books - that's what you get with a comprehensive book

The get the most of this book: 1) Read the first intro chapters including the one on "how to use this book" 2) Take each suggestion seriously 3) Make your own notes in a separate notebook 4) Always time yourself with a timer and keep a GMAT error log

Strengths:
- 300+ GMAT style questions
- Good explanations with diagrams
- The book is writen as an instruction manual with many insights and tips n the chapters/explnations
- Over 500 Exercises (non-gmat style questions)
- Covers all topics test on the gmat including probabilyt, statistics, etc without going too far
- Each question are gets a section (inequalities, absolute value, work problems, etc)
- Includes 100 of 700+ questions
- Good strategy suggestions including focusing on concepts rather than solving thousands of questions, writing question information down, and mental math concepts
- Good paper and formulas are done well

Weaknesses:
- The chapters are structured in a slightly unorthodox pattern. The book starts with algebra, then goes into geometry, then work problems, and then number properties. I felt that moving number properties closer to the beginning of the book would make more sense. I also felt the chapters were a bit choppy (only a few pages long) but that's my preference
- Could be intimidating: the text is very tightly packed with just a handful of illustrations. (see my uploaded image for details)
- No highlighting or a summary sheet - would be great to have formulas or key concepts highlighted on pages or at the end of the book
- Copyright and website address on every page - gets a bit old and distracting
- No OG recommendations table - would be helpful to have a list of questions from the OG for additional practice after each chapter
- Table of content is not usable (11 pages)

Bottom line: This is the ultimate book for math on the GMAT. If you are looking for a 50 on the quant, this is the book to get. However, this may be too much for some who are not seeking to spend 6 weeks on this book. Let not the price scare you - it is on the low side of what other prep companies charge for the entire math book set.

2-0 out of 5 stars Give it a wide berth.
The problems are too difficult and full of typos. I really had higher expectations from Kaplan. Its great if you want to learn additional math skills but I only wanted to learn math for the Gmat.

However, on the slightly positive side, the tests are great for learning the pacing and format that the test will be in and knowing that is half the battle. Whatever you do, though, don't trust the scores. The rumors that the Kaplan tests will score you 100-150 points lower than the actual exam are 100% true!

1-0 out of 5 stars Typos, typos, and MORE F-ING TYPOS!!
I'm nearing the end of the math portion of the book and I've counted at least 5 times where the book's math was wrong.Errors were in the reviews, the problems, and the explanations of the answers.I would let grammatical and spelling errors slide, but when there's a 4 instead of a 2 or a plus instead of a minus or a square-root of 2 where there should be a square root of 3, I'm going to get pissed off.Don't buy this book if you're not well-versed in math.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst Buy
Mistakes everywhere in the Math Review!Very difficult to study when the answers and questions have typos. Kaplan did you actually proof read this before you published it?For a company that is supposed to be so great what a disappointed.I will never buy Kaplan, nor suggest that anyone ever buy Kaplan.

1-0 out of 5 stars Shameful
As has been said in countless reviews here, this book is diabolical. It is littered with mistakes, and the explanations are woeful. Many of the answers just say that a specific choice is "wrong", without an actual explanation. While that is frustrating, it's not in the same league as the basic printing errors.

If any test taker made as many mistakes on their test as they do in this prep book, they'd be looking at a 400!

And of course, when you raise this with Kaplan "Customer Service"...silence. They're crooks.

Pathetic.

While some business schools show little interest in the AWA(analytical writing assessment) portion of your GMAT, other schoolsuse the results to help distinguish between the hundreds of studentscompeting for placement in their programs. If your schools of choiceconsider AWA results when selecting students, you'll need to devotetime to your essays as well as to your math and verbal skills. Whenyou take your GMAT, the computer randomly selects two essay questionsfrom its question bank. GMAT CAT: Answers to the Real EssayQuestions can help you prepare for all of them. No book is allowedto publish the questions (though this book's appendix will tell youhow to download the 180 official AWA questions from the EST's website)-- but this book does provide you with sample answers to all 180questions. The authors warn you not to try to use their answers on theexam, as the GMAT readers feel pretty strongly aboutplagiarism--instead, they provide you with tools to help you composeyour own high-scoring GMAT essays and a "scorecard" to help you scoreyour practice essays. The book also offers advice on how to answerboth the "analysis of an issue" and "analysis of an argument"questions, and truly practical information about the basic structureof the exam and even the word-processing program you'll be using onyour test. Filled with such useful advice, GMAT CAT: Answers to theReal Essay Questions would be a great addition to the seriousstudent's GMAT preparation.--C.B. Delaney ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
This is a good buy but as somebody who gave GMAT, the essays are probably the least important part.
if you have enough time, read the book because it will give you an idea about all possible questions GMAT can throw at you. These essays are really good and you probably don't need to be this good.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of money and time
Really really disappointing. Never ever buy this book. Reasoning, sentence structure,... every thing is poor poor poor

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Resource if the school you are applying to cares about the essays!
The truth of the matter is some Grad Schools do not care what score you receive on the essay section of GMAT BUT some do! If the school of your dreams has an essay score requirement I recommend this book. If you actively read through 1/3 to 1/2 of each section(analysis of an issue, analysis of an argument) you will have a great understanding of what it takes to get a 5.0-6.0 on each essay. I read 50% of each section, took notes on transitions, introductory phrases, conclusion phrases, and memorized the recommended formats. This exercise took me about six hours, and was well worth it! It gave me an idea of the key topics GMAT tests on and what level of vocabulary I had to use to get a 6.0, and on test day I implemented their suggestions and got a 6.0! The last thing you want to do is prepare for the essay section, after long hours of Math/Verbal prep, but if you put six hours asideto work through this book, the weekend before your test it will be well worth it!Getting the GMAT score of your dreams is possible you just need time and right study guides.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Helpful Book, But Not Everyone Needs It
Given the fact that the average writing score is around 4 out of 6, it is safe to assume that most test takers can write somewhat decent essays. The drawback of this book is that it needs to be updated to include the essay topics that GMAC has been adding to the question pool each year.It also would be nice to have the essay questions in the book.It can be time consuming to try to match up the essay topics, which are listed somewhere else on the web, to the essay answers in the book. But this book does teach people how to organize their thoughts and express them effectively. The sample essays might also give people fresh ideas on which stand to take for issue topics and what to look for in the argument topics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good
By reading this book you can really understand exactly what the examinators (including computer examinator) are expecting and looking for in a GMAT essay.
You must have your own writing skills, but this book can definitely help with the format and key-phrases. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great tricks and clear explanations
This book was a very helpful resource for tips and tricks and how information around solving the similar type problems you see in the GMAT over and over again.I was always an A/B student and math was no exception, but I had to study hard for every math test as it does not come naturally for me.for those of you who can relate, I needed more preparation time for math than verbal. If you have the time to prepare effectively I would suggets the following:
1)Read GMAT for Dummies first to get reacquainted with the basic algebra, arithmetic and geometry concepts.
2)Read the Princeton Review GMAT book that covers all parts of the test cover to cover
3)Read this book next as it teaches you better tricks for answering tougher ratio, algebra and sufficieny problems than the General GMAT review book
4) If you have time, buy the Princetone Review book with the 1000 plus math problems to practice ( ihad only a month to prepare so I did not take this last step but it would have been helpful)

Finally, wear layers to the testing center because I was distracted by the cold AC and my subsequent headache and runny nose!!

5-0 out of 5 stars an excellent refresher.....
this text is indeed extremely useful as a refresher for individuals who have been out of school for some time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Princeton Math Workboog For Gmat 2nd edition
Good book for preparingGMAT , Quant Section.

Must buy at any cost

3-0 out of 5 stars Don't Make This Your Only Book
This book is a decent supplement, but don't make it the only book you use to prepare for the Quantitative section of the GMAT.

I bought this after going through the full Princeton and GMAT guides (the ones that cover all test topics). I found that my math skills still needed a lot of exercise, so I ordered Princeton's Math Workout.

On the plus side, I've found that it has some helpful tips that weren't in the full Princeton book. However, its explanations of most topics are quite weak. The author will dedicate a couple of paragraphs to the basics of a subject, then present you with sample questions to solve. Too many times, the sample questions are quite a bit more complex than what he covered in his explanations.

If you're good at math, this won't be much of a problem for you. But then again, if you're good at math, you probably don't need this book. I'm NOT good at math, and need a guide that covers the topics in-depth rather than just giving me the basics and expecting me to extrapolate more advanced concepts from that.

I've also found a couple of typos in the book, which is particularly disturbing when you consider that it has a 2005 copyright. After three years, Princeton couldn't see fit to release a revised edition? The book also says you get six sheets of scratch paper stapled together when you take the GMAT. However, the big Princeton book says you get 10 sheets of laminated graph paper and an erasable marker. A minor thing, somewhat, but two guides from the same publisher shouldn't contradict one another.

2-0 out of 5 stars This book contains several errors
I decided to use this book as a supplement to a prep class I took. I was extremely disappointed to find that the book contains content errors. I am halfway through the book and I have already found 2 errors. If I had not already studied for the GMAT I would have gotten these problem types wrong on the GMAT. This book is also does not show you how to shorten your computations. I think this book is only good for a refresher and should be accompanied by a more thorough guide. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of Time and Money
After going through the verbal workout and comparing it with Kaplan, the verbal book is a complete waste of time and money. The book spends too much time on how to "game" the test instead of teaching you the basic building blocks and strategies to solve the questions. The practice questions hardly resemble what GMAT verbal questions are. In many cases, the explanations confused me more. The only bright side is that the book has an extensive list of logic phrases and grammar which might be helpful if you don't them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not useful if targeting a700+ score
I recently, completed reading this book.
This book's decent reviews attracted me as I required some extra practice.
But after reading the book I am surprised why people have given good reviewsto the book.

Here is my take:
Positive:
1. The book is OK for beginners who need guidance on very basics.
2. I can't think of anything else good about this book.

Negatives:
1. The book has very few sample questions
2. The introduction to each section is useful for very beginners. Anyone who has read kaplan or OG would not find the theory interesting.
3. The most important: The answer choices in critical reasoning/reading comprehension not similar to actual test. Some of the explanations are actually silly and it's hard to agree with the book at several places.

I would not recommend this book to anyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars great verbal review
This is a great review for someone who needs extra practice for the verbal section of the GMAT.It is set up with some review instructions for each section (sentence correction, argument, and reading comprehension) with a set of practice questions afterwards. At the end, there is an entire practice verbal section.

3-0 out of 5 stars Verbal Workout for the GMAT, 2nd Edition (Graduate Test Prep)
I have not had a chance to complete the book. But so far its good

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book that will improve your verbal score...!
This book is filled with step by step instructions for improving your verbal scores on the GMAT.It looks at each type of verbal question in depth and not only teaches you all the rules you'll need to know, but also has lots of examples. After I took the GMAT, my verbal scores were WAY up there -- I attribute much of that to this book. This book is a must for the GMAT. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars EZ GMAT advanced workbook
This book is most beneficial if you have done everything that you can possibly do for your math review and just need to gain the extra confidence by laying your hands on some of the most complex math problems. The EZ GMAT workbook is an excellent means to finish your final preparation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Advance GMAT Math Practice
The EZ Advanced Workbook can be quite intimidating if studied at the wrong time. Use the EZ advanced wb towards the end of your preparation period, after you think you have mastered all the math concepts. The exercises correspond with the various topics in their EZ review books, which make it very easy to go back and forth whenever needed. You can be assured of a thorough refresher of all the math concepts if you have the entire EZ series.

4-0 out of 5 stars Impressive Sole Source for GMAT upper Level Math scores
As someone who was rusty after several years out of school, I found this Advanced Math workbook to be an excellent 'sole source' for targeting high Quant scores on the GMAT. The questions are deep and challenging, and while initially frustrating in the level of difficulty, you will begin to see your Math scores climb as you persevere. Personally feel this is a fine alternative to the GMAT 800 books out there

A word of warning though - do not start with the Advanced version, get the Basics mastered before you wade into these deep waters. One possible area of improvement is improving the diversity of practice exercises a bit, as some of them seemed repetitive.

4-0 out of 5 stars EZ SOLUTIONS TEST PREP MATH SERIES ADVANCED WORKBOOK
EZ SOLUTIONS GMAT SERIES: advanced Workbook

The Advanced workbook is the more challenging work book, hence the word Advanced. This is a book you definitely want to use as you get through with the different sections of math, whether it be arithmetic...word problems. The Advanced workbook has the same format as the other workbook, such as the multiple methods for the given concepts and the detailing of each problem. It is much like the basic workbook, but the questions are a bit tougher, which is good because the harder the practice questions the easier the actual GMAT test may be. So start off with the basic workbook first! In my opinion, all of these books are related. The Advanced workbook is also a bit repititious, but it is effective in remembering the methods and techniques. I like that the author goes over the explanations in a real and thorough manner. Much like a personal tutor. By studying some of the techniques given, you may save time on each question. For me, math has its own language so by using these ez solutions books, when I did a few practice quizzes, I notice I spent less time trying to understand which rule/technque to apply. Of course, this only comes with practice. My only problem with the book is that though it is a combination of all the sections in a more challenging format, you still need the true GMAT form, so you won't be confused come test day. My advice is to use other books that consists of diagnostics, and that are written in a GMAT style. Some of these books only give you the "GMAT" way (one way) to remember a technique, but EZ Solution gives you different methods (Depending on the section you're studying), and you can choose which one works for you. So all in all these books are working for me. Use them to your advantage.

5-0 out of 5 stars GMAT Quants - must have test prep series
I purchased the 11 set GMAT Math Test Prep series a couple of months ago to help me on my GMAT preparation (executive MBA application). Not having touched math problems (arithmetic, algebra & geometry, word problems, data sufficiency etc.) in more than 17 years, the EZ Solutions series took me back to high school and first year university math classes - great books if you were good at math, even better books if you didn't pay to much attention in high school/university.Explanations are detailed with more than enough examples and covers all topics necessary for the GMAT quants. The advance workbook will make you scratch your head a couple of times, but if you covered the basics you just need to apply them to solve the hardest of questions. This book along with the other 10 is a must buy for the quant section of the GMAT exam.Definitely worth the investment - get the set! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Many errors, not enough details on explanations (in solution guide)
I bought the set of 4 books (Math Guide + Solutions Guide, and Verbal Guide + Solutions) and am studying on my own. While doing the math Practice Problems, I realized there were many errors in the Solutions Guide (not the Math Guide). When there weren't errors, the author still does not do a good enough job of explaining EVERYTHING in detail or putting the necessary graphics (when needed) to explain his answers. If you are planning to use this Books for SELF study, then I don't really recommend these books.

IF the whole point of the books is that you can study on your own (At least according to [...] recommendation, awhich is a website supported by the Manhattan review), and check your answers (by buying the Solutions guide), then the solutions books should have lots of details, examples, graphics, etc to explain everything so someone can understand and have ZERO doubts of "How did he do that", "Where is the illustration"? The solutions guide (separate book) is such a disappointment!!!

Buying this book on it's own is worthless, as you don't have answers to any of the questions. What was the point of making 2 separate books? When they could have included everything (Questions & Solutions) into a single book!

The format of the text looks VERY unprofessional, and looks more like a book that your high school or college teacher would give you which is made up of black and white copies of his notes or papers. Maybe these books are just for you to use when you buy the Manhattan GMAT course, and then they would be useful. BUT THEY ARE NOT useful on their own....

The Math Review of the Barron's GMAT book is way better!

Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended
This book was a great help, providing clear explanations for the practice problems and carefully going over its methods in a way that was informative and easy to grasp.I was able to utilize this book to my advantage without any trouble and without having prior experience with practice problems and tests.Overall, the straightforward format of the book and its clarity of style helped me gain many skills necessary to be confident about taking the GMAT.I would definitely recommend this to anyone else taking the test and needing a practice boost.

2-0 out of 5 stars too abstact
I can concur with others who have pointed out the distracting typos, which also make some of the explanations quite confusing.

This book appears to contain some fairly sophisticated methods for tackling difficult problems on the GMAT--the problem is that they are woefully unexplained and poorly illustrated. In fact, this whole thing reads like a course accompanying product that depends on teacher explanation. Very unpolished and really only of use to advanced students and those looking to get their hands on more practice problems. Go with the other other Manhattan series if you're looking for one good set of books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Math Study Guide
Heard great things from my colleagues about this series. They really lived up to my expectation though the book covers could have been laminated to make them sturdier! Overally speaking, it is a very good book. Basic to advanced. Tons of difficult questions. Solutions are very detailed. I also found a lot of free downloadable study guides from Manhattan Review's website (www.Manhattanreview.com). Try it. I also emailed them directly about my suggestions on the books. They were very responsive and receptive. In sum, I recommend the Turbocharge books after going through a half dozen other study books. OG is also a must.

4-0 out of 5 stars updates
I have recently purchased a set of Turbocharge GMAT books. The books are
very comprehensive and well structured with practice problems at the back of
the book behind all the chapter-by-chapter instructions. I noticed that all
the books are updated recently within the last two months. It is quite
assuring to know someone is always fine-tuning the content and updating it.
Highly recommend it. A friend studied with the set and scored 740 lately. I
hope I will match or beat it! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Grammar Refresher for GMAT
Face it - there are no great grammar books for GMAT and this is as good as it gets. Actually this book is pretty good and probably valuable for anyone rusty with Grammar (this book covers only grammar and style - no RC or CR). If you are a not a native speaker, I would highly recommend it (otherwise probably move on unless SC's are killing you).

THE GOOD:
- Bridges the GMAT Grammar gap. Standard grammar books work but they go beyond the needs of the GMAT and this book manages to stay within the boundaries through all 300 pages
- Focus on areas that are often disregarded such as Infinitive and Gerund verb usage, modifiers, commonly confused words, etc
- 200 GMAT-style questions and 100+ other questions and quizzes
- 4.5 pages of GMAT Idioms with explanations and examples
- Good section on style - word choice, being concise, being appropriate - esp. what words/contractions not to use
- Brief section on punctuation (may not be very relevant on GMAT but helpful in Essays and application)
- Good layout and high quality white paper

THE BAD:
- Could be more detailed in some subjects, E.g. articles
- Maybe better layout
- No index for quick reference

Hopefully this will get you started. See my reviews for all other GMAT Books.
BB - Founder of GMAT Club; GMAT 750

P.S. Let me know if you have any questions about this guide or other books - I reply to comments and appreciate any feedback (especially negative and suggestions for improvement).

5-0 out of 5 stars Good for verbal and writing
This is a great book if you want to increase your verbal score on the GMAT. I am not sure why this book is not as popular as some of the other books but it sure has some good content. Although AWA is not considered to be an important part of the score, it should not be neglected as most top business schools do look at the AWA scores. This book will surely help you write well organized essays. Other verbal sections are also nicely covered in this book. Highly recommended!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Good for GMAT Verbal
Although most of GMAT Readers focus on Test Prep, such as Princeton Reviewm and Kaplan, and never pays attention to McGraw Hill, I can ensure that this book gives you some perspectives about verbal, especially Reading Comp Strategy which I am weak at. They have some good examples with good explanation which you can not find from other test prep. This book might not be the single book used but you can use together with other Test Prep to improve your score. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars EZ GMAT basic workbook
This book is a good choice if you are just starting of with your math review and wish to get an overall idea by experiencing a wide spectrum of mediocre level math problems. The EZ GMAT basic workbook is a good way to kick off your long journey of preparation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Basic GMAT Math Practice
The EZ Basic Workbook is good for intermediary purposes. Use the EZ basic wb at the beginning or middle of your preparation cycle, while you are studying for the various math concepts as it will provide you with similar problems related to each topic and question type. The exercises correspond with the main topics in their EZ review books, which make it extremely easy to refer back as and when needed. You can expect a thorough refresher of all the math concepts if you have the entire EZ series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Starter for the Basics
As an older GMAT-taker several years out of school, I found this book to be a very good place to get the Basics right. It is well-structured and hand holds you across the trenches of Math; I particularly liked the fact that it had lots of short cuts and tips on approaching problems to solve them quickly and efficiently, a real advantage on the actual GMAT. While these 'tricks of the trade' are also available elsewhere from numerous other published sources, it would probably take an year of wading through various basic Math books to put them together, and that to me is the real value of this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars EZ SOLUTIONS TEST PREP MATH SERIES Basic Workbook
EZ SOLUTIONS GMAT SERIES: Basic Workbook

I purchased the EZ Solutions math series to aide me in focusing on the Math portion of the GMAT. The Basic workbook was very helpful in refreshing my math skills (some I remember, some I forgot). My suggestions is to use this book to help you get a better an understanding of what you know, what you think you know, and what you don't know, to see where you need to start. As far as the quantative section of the GMAT, the basic workbook may help you to write out a detailed plan to study for the math portion of the GMAT. The repitions of the practice questions give me a better understanding of the techniques. The explanations are really thorough. Since I am taking the GMAT soon, I need to remember as much as possible in the easiest ways. The basic workbook consisits of practice questions, testing how much you know. So if you find yourself not doing so well in a certain area, you can depend on the various methods that aide you solving problems step by step. If you have the series, I would suggest focusing more on the areas you have trouble with (arithmetic, algebra, geometry, word problems, logic and stats practice books)I guess I would describe the basic workbook as an appetizer for what to expect from the other practice books. I would suggest using other GMAT books, CD's, or Websites, that come with quizzes, diagnostics along with the EZ solution series. This is so you can get a real feel of the GMAT test, its language, and structure.

5-0 out of 5 stars GMAT Quant - test prep must have
I purchased the 11 set GMAT Math Test Prep series a couple of months ago to help me on my GMAT preparation (executive MBA application).

The basic workbook will re-inforce what you've earned from the Test prep series, the advance workbook will make you scratch your head a couple of times, but if you covered the basics workbook first, you just need to apply this to solve the hardest of questions in advance workbook. This book along with the other 10 is a must buy for the quant section of the GMAT exam.Definitely worth the investment! ... 3-0 out of 5 stars GMAT: Only get it if you really need help with AWA
The book is great, and will do a fantastic job if you need a lot of help with your essays on the GMAT. However, most people don't, and don't need to spend their time on the AWA section. Admissions don't really care about you essay scores and unless you get less than 4.0, your essays will never be reviewed mentioned or touched by the MBA admissions committee.
Most MBA applicants spend 1 - 2 days on AWA. All you need to do is to memorize a couple of templates (one for each of the essay type - issue and argument). Here are the templates I would suggest to use:

ARGUMENT ESSAY:

Intro:
The argument claims that ....(restate)
Stated in this way the argument:
a) manipulates facts and conveys a distorted view of the situation
b) reveals examples of leap of faith, poor reasoning and ill-defined terminology
c) fails to mention several key factors, on the basis of which it could be evaluated
The conclusion of the argument relies on assumptions for which there is no clear evidence. Hence, the argument is weak/unconvincing and has several flaws.

1st Para:
First, the argument readily assumes that......
This statement is a stretch....
For example,...
Clearly,...
The argument could have been much clearer if it explicitly stated that...

2nd Para:
Second, the argument claims that....
This is again a very weak and unsupported claim as the argument does not demonstrate any correlation between....and...
To illustrate,...
While,...
However,....indeed....
In fact, it is not at all clear...rather....
If the argument had provided evidence that.....then the argument would have been a lot more convincing.

3rd Para:
Finally,...
(pose some questions for the argument).....Without convincing answers to these questions, one is left with the impression that the claim is more of a wishful thinking rather than substantive evidence.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, the argument is flawed for the above-mentioned reasons and is therefore unconvincing. It could be considerably strengthened if the author clearly mentioned all the relevant facts....
In order to assess the merits of a certain situation/decision, it is essential to have full knowledge of all contributing factors. In this particular case....
Without this information, the argument remains unsubstantiated and open to debate.

ISSUE ESSAY:

Intro:
Many/some people think that....Others.....(restate)
The issue is a controversial one but a closer examination reveals that....(take a position)...for several reasons.

1st Para:
One reason is that/for...
For example,...
Furthermore,...
Clearly,...

2nd Para:
Another reason is that/for...
To illustrate,...
As a result,...

3rd Para:
Perhaps the best reason is (that)....
Specifically,...
Moreover/In addition....
In fact,....
Therefore,....

Conclusion:
In summary, while there are arguments to be made for both sides, it is clear that there are greater advantages to....(repeat the reasons).
Certainly,.....outweigh.......
Hence,....(re-affirm your position)

***Final tips for essay writing***
- During the tutorial type in a few sentences in the mock essay window to get used to the keyboard.
- Again during the tutorial, jot down on your notebook the basic structure of your essays or the opening sentences in case you get too nervous and forget them when the clock starts ticking.
- Write as much as you can. Try to write at least 500 words per essay.
- Always have the e-rater in mind as your potential reviewer. Remember that the human rater will make every effort to grade just like the e-rater. In that sense, keep your structure and volume in mind over actual quality/content.
- Be careful of spelling mistakes. Double check words that you normally know you misspell (e.g. exercise). Try to finish 2-3 minutes before time is up so you can slowly re-read your essay for the purposes of spell checking. Do not reorganize/delete sentences/paragraphs with less than 2 min left.
- No matter how great you thought your essays went, try to stay humble and focused - remember this was just a warm-up and the real stuff hasn't started yet!
- Write the essays during your practice tests (this will help build your stamina)

Let me know if you have any questions about GMAT books - I have read and reviewed all of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Used it 4 yrs back
The quality should be there are there is not much change warranted for the content. This time, I bought it for my sis. Easy read for those with not-too-big-a-brain. I am not saying it is not of good quality. What I am saying is it doesn't make you tired unlike Barrons and stuff.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but it will help you get ready for the Analytical Writing section
This book won't help you write the great american novel, but it will get you ready for the GRE Analytical Writing section.

It is a great workbook. I borrowed several books on this subject (including Peterson's Writing Skills for the GRE) from the library before settling on [buying] this one.
It helped me understand the mechanics of the Writing section and how to tackle the essays effectively. Each chapter is organized in sections that present a topic and end with a short practice exercise. The practice exercises are numerous, just one chapter has 25 of them. There are many sample essay prompts for writing practice too.

1-0 out of 5 stars Poorly writen test prep
This book is supposed to give readers exmaples of good writing styles and manners. However, there are ample grammar mistakes, typos and junk spoken English.Even in the answers to the practices, I could find poorly writen sentence like:

"Many people are obsessed with video games and television, which I believe are relatively harmless wastes of time."

For God's sake, it just talked about good grammar a few pages before this!

This book is just another junk to make money but not to help readers.I am wondering if I read the whole book, my score will go up or go down! ... Read more
