Product Description

One ordinary Monday morning in May, Hilmer Eriksson walks into his high school classroom and discovers that he has become invisible. No one can see him, no one can hear him. In fact, a police detective named Harald Fors arrives at school that very morning to investigate Hilmer's disappearance. The boy has no idea what's going on, but he's frightened, and he's starting to forget things Â- including what happened to him a few nights earlier. Detective Fors suspects foul play, and those suspicions lead him Â- trailed by the ghostlike presence of Hilmer Â- to a group of skinheads. These unpopular, disaffected kids are very vocal about their Nazi sympathies. But how does Hilmer's life intersect with theirs? As Fors scours the village and interviews area residents for clues, he begins to piece together the puzzle of Hilmer's disappearance. Meanwhile Hilmer waits, silently, to discover what has happened to him.

In this riveting mystery set in northern Sweden, Mats Wahl deftly alternates between the policeman's and the victim's points of view, as the story of a missing-persons case shifts with a sad inevitability into a heartbreaking murder investigation.

3-0 out of 5 stars liked the US film better
I enjoyed the US film so much that I thought I'd give the book a try. Though they shared most of the same characters, the storyline was much different. The book did not explain why Hilmer/Nick was beaten to death, and what happened to the perpetrators. There was no resolution. The book is told more from the detective's point of view, while the movie focuses on Nick's observations and interactions. I was not bored reading it, but I was a bit disappointed when I finished. And other than some mild language, it is safe for younger (and more sensitive) readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars The book is great!
I really liked this book! It differs very much (and the final too) from the movie, so be ready to find here absolutely new heroes, if you order "The Invisible" to read about Annie & Nick. But still it is great. Life, society and people as they are.

5-0 out of 5 stars ThE InViSiBlE KcS
How would you feel if you beaten one night, but didn't know what has happen to you and discovered that you have become invisible? This is how Hilmer Erikson feels in this story. The title of this book is The Invisible by Matts Wahl. The setting of this story takes place in Northern Sweden and is modern time. The main character of this book is a 9th grader named Hilmer Erikson that has become invisible and is trying to discover why and Detective Fors who is trying to find the disappearance of Hilmer Erikson.

On a Monday morning at Lugnet School, Hilmer Erikson finds out something weird, no one can see or hear him and does not know why. hilmer soon discovers that he has become invisible. Detective Fors is trying to put the disappearance of Hilmer together. He soon finds out that it was a group of kids from Hilmer's school that has kicked him to death. While being beaten, Hilmer is called a traitor for being nice to immigrants. Hilmer finds that his body is still alive and its his spirit that is trying to save him. He waits so that he can learn about the past events in his life.

I think that the theme of this book is to watch out for others and to always be aware. The meaning of title The Invisible is about Hilmer being Invisible. I think the pacing of this book was very good and the authors craft was very detailed and he left you wondering throughout the whole book. I didn't think that this book was in Christian perspective because there was a lot of swearing throughout the story but in the ending there was people praying. The genre of this story was realistic fiction because everything in this book could happen in real life. I thought this book was excellent and I would recommend it to people who like mysteries.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Story but the Invisible Factor Plays No Part in the Plot
I really enjoyed this book but the factor that attracted this story to me in the first place (an invisible kid who can't communicate with the world but finds out there's a police search for him) didn't play much of a part in this story.Don't get me wrong I still enjoyed this short story length read, but I feel many people may purchase this novel and feel slightly cheated being that other than for marketing the book, Hilmer being in the story as an invisible entity is pointless as he does not alter the investigation, interact with anyone or have any purpose for the plot, in fact there's very few paragraphs he even appears in at all.The story would have flowed smoothly, in fact smoother without him as his being in the present as an invisible one only lets the reader know for sure something bad has happened to his real self and he's not just a runaway as a lot of the townfolk want the detective to believe.Still lets be honest not many of those of us who read the book probably would have done so without this clever or unethical marketing twist but the reputation of the author may well suffer for future work due to this.

The Invisible is an enjoyable read though, complete with a main character Detective Herald Fors who like any real cop does has his flaws. His frustrations at the incompetent and selfish small town residents who prefer to brush a problem under the carpet rather than find a missing boy so their tourism marketing campaign to the Germans isn't messed up is brilliant reading.Tackling bigotry and hatred but explaining why the main bigot actually developed this rationale was also very well done.I would highly recommend this book and read more novels by this Swedish writer but I think they took a big risk with the minimal invisible non essential plot factor which may put a lot of readers after that sort of thing off side.

Read the book, it's good!

5-0 out of 5 stars Evil needs to be acknowledged and dealt with
As Detective Fors conducts his investigation, he turns up undercurrents of evil in the town, which have mostly used Neo-Naziism as a vehicle for their problems.Officials of the town have endeavoured to hide those traces, and look the other way.

Had it been met and fought, things might have been different - but this is fiction, and designed to get one to think about what might have been.

There is a saying that runs somethng like, "To free the guilty is to condemn the innocent."Or, as Albus Dumbledore put it, "Remember Cedric." ... Read more

Product Description
Gentrification-by any means necessary.

With the help of new employees Cedric, Bobby, and Horus-three ex-cons trying to forge a new life-Lester Baines's Horizon Realty is bringing Harlem back to its renaissance. Fate seems to be working in Lester's favor when Harlem's undesirable tenants begin to get clumsy and meet early deaths by accident. A deadbeat dad electrocutes himself in the bathtub. A drug dealer takes flight from his fire escape. A pimp is shot dead by police when they mistake his wallet for a handgun. That's where Horizon steps in. Block by block, Lester and his crew clear out the rubble and the rabble, filling once dilapidated brownstones with black professionals handpicked for their shared vision of Harlem as a shining icon for the race.

Rumors of the Chupacabra, a mythical monster claiming the lives of Harlem's unfortunate, run rampant with Harlem's youth. But it isn't until an ambitious reporter begins to investigate the extraordinarily high accident rate in Harlem that Lester starts to get a little nervous about Horizon's future. For Lester, no cost is too high in protecting Horizon and his vision for restoration. The battle for gentrification and for the souls and very lives of the ex-cons plays out on the streets of Harlem and against a backdrop of beautiful Manhattan brownstones.

Mat Johnson has created vividly memorable characters and a story that stands out as one of the most controversial and explosive in years. As sure to ignite debate as it is to entertain, Hunting in Harlem is an old-fashioned page-turner with a fresh and brave voice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and terrifying
Hunting in Harlem is one of the funnier books I've read in a while. At the same time, it manages to be a thriller, as well as a political novel. That it can exist as all three of these things at once and still be intelligible as a whole is a testament to Mat Johnson's talent. He can wring humor, tragedy, and anger out of the subject of gentrification, creating a novel that is entertaining as well as thought-provoking. Not only are the main characters well-drawn and fully human, but also the villains, who seem at first to be of the out-sized Dickensian variety, are rounded out and given inner lives as the novel progresses. No one is as one-dimensional as they seem at first, and no one ends up where you would expect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Murder for the Greater Good
After the success of his debut novel Drop, Mat Johnson has returned to the literary scene with his second novel, winner of the 2004 Hurston-Wright Legacy Award for fiction, HUNTING IN HARLEM.This the story of three ex-cons who are recruited by a Harlem real estate company to get a second chance at making good with their lives.Horizon Realty has set a plan in motion to stop the gentrification of Harlem by upper class whites and reinvigorate a sagging economy by re-populating the neighborhood with good, honest, black folk. But like any area suffering from urban blight, you have your unwanted denizens:the pushers, the whores, the child molesters, and the gun runners. It's hard to create a family neighborhood with these types as residents; so when they start to have convenient accidents, it's all good.

Snowden, Bobby, and Horus begin life after incarceration as interns with Horizon, literally working their way from the bottom up.Supposedly, they will be introduced to the world of real estate and trained to be real estate agents. But the trio soon discovers that they were chosen for their new jobs specifically because of their pasts.Snowden's lover, Piper Goines, is a reporter for a local minority owned newspaper, and it isn't long before she senses something foul at Horizon and starts investigating.

Mat Johnson has used his considerable talents to explore current urban social problems, but he also touches on cultural pursuits by subtly raising the topic of popular urban fiction and the lack of love received by black writers who study their craft and spend years writing literate, thought-provoking books only to be outsold by upstarts supplying readers with "melaninized, low-tech versions of their afternoon soaps."Johnson, as usual, is smart, witty, and destined to be one of his generation's best writers. The plot moves quickly once the introductory matter is out of the way.A well-executed example of fine literature, HUNTING IN HARLEM will keep you thinking about contemporary urban issues... and looking over your shoulder.

1-0 out of 5 stars What a flop!
The opening paragraph was the best part of this novel. It offered great promise for an engaging story but failed to deliver. The story opens with three ex-cons being recruited by a community development organization to help return Harlem to black folks. As the author clunks along with the story, we learn of the many "accidents" that befall the undesirables in the neighborhood and get a few obviously placed statements about attributes that need to be acquired by African Americans."Bobby actually believed in what Lester and the congressman were telling him, bought into all of it from the start.Horus was the same way, never questioning, never complaining." This is only one example of the didactic tone of the novel and the author's lack of creativity in trying to make his point. There was more than one instance when I felt that the author was actually trying to trick me into finishing the novel.Using an unsuccessful book, "The Great Work", written by one of the characters, Johnson discusses the mistreatment of black literature and uses this commentary to entice his reader to stick with the book. That ploy simply didn't work on me.After 100 pages into the novel I simply gave up.The writing is dull, the characters are flat and the story lacks any feel of realism.Furthermore, the story seems absent of language that engages the imagination or paints a picture. He dictates each chapter like a witness at a deposition.I'm not sure what other reviewers found in this book that I missed but I certainly can't recommend this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the Best Fiction in Years
I've never been a fan of the mystery/thriller genre and this book encompases neither genre. What 'Hunting in Harlem' is is one of the strongest pieces of fiction writing/literature in the last 30 years.Johnson's novel is strong on characters who keep you pulleld into the book and you're very happy to stay there. What makes this novel so good is Johnson's ability to weave words with the ease of the Modernists and the grace of post-modern writers. Never one to hold himself above language, Johnson's second novel is nothing short of brilliant, and I say this after reading it 3 times. Can't wait for his next novel to come out...Get a move-on, Johnson!

5-0 out of 5 stars Marvelous!
Loved it! This book will keep you enthralled. Never a dull moment here. Mat Johnson is a master of plot, character and humor. ... Read more

Product Description

This book features original designs and motifs, inspired by the long traditions of the craft

Canadian rug hooker Deanne Fitzpatrick presents a collection of colorful, whimsical designs for welcome mats, area rugs, chair pads, and other decorative household items. Inspired by the seascape, the people, and the long rug-making traditions of the communities of the Atlantic coast, Deanne has adapted some of her favorite motifs to create practical, pictorial hooked canvases-Kissing Fish welcome mat, Old Rose oval rug, Coastal House chair pads, Dancing Women rug, and more.

She provides the basic hooking instructions and tips on choosing the right backing (burlap or linen), gathering fabric (silks, wools, velvets-or just about anything else you can cut into strips), and binding the edges. She also provides templates for each of the 33 projects and instructions on transferring and positioning the motifs. Scattered throughout the book are inspiring photographs of Fitzpatrick's many award-winning rugs, her stories of traditions that inspire her work, and insider's tips for shortcuts and techniques. The whimsical, folk-art-style designs range from simple to more complex and will appeal both to beginners and experienced rug hookers. The technique is simple, and the materials are few and easy to find.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wrong wrong wrong
There is a fundamental error in the instructions contained in this book. The instruction on preparing to hook on the last paragraph on page 22 are clearly wrong. If strips were cut the way they are instructed to be you would end up with a small square not a long strip. The measurements, both imperial and metric, do not make sense.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
Beautiful book with lots of great images of some really wonderful rugs and mats.Lots of great info and ideas.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a great rug hooking book!
This is just a wonderful book.I very much enjoyed reading Deanne Fitzpatrick's narrative of the way her life in the Canadian Maritimes has influenced her work. The photographs are excellent and show the detail of the work.Even the recipe for the Oatcakes (page 42) was great!

This book is an inspiration for experienced rug hookers, and has good basic instruction for the beginner.

I also enjoy reading Deanne's "diary" on her website [...].The integration of personal philosophy, art and creativity all come together in an remarkable way.

5-0 out of 5 stars Some very familiar designs and text~~~
Lots of repetition in Deanne's books. This one is almost identical to an earlier one, even using the same text. Repetition is common in many of her books, so one must watch for this. All in all everything she does is noteworthy, and easy to understand , but sometimes repetitious.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful designs
These hooked designs are wonderful--really unique. Not at all like the typical traditional patterns you usually find out there. The colors and shapes are bright and bold and each pattern tells a story. I love the author's way of working, too. There's no right and wrong way. She lets each design take you where it wants to go. So inspiring! I can't wait to make my first rug! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Pilates Body Challenge
An excellent book to accompany Ms. Siler's first book. Practical guidelines for using Pilates principles at home or in everyday situations (at the office, waiting in line at the bank, etc.). Very well organized and with excellent illustrations. This book is like a portable teacher.

5-0 out of 5 stars another great book from Siler
This book is a great compliment to Brooke Siler's "The Pilates Body."I would highly recommend it to anyone feeling like they are in a rut at the gym.

5-0 out of 5 stars Pilates PhD
This book is the PhD level of Pilates.Brooke Siler doesn't dumb-down.Read, flag pages, highlight words, whatever you need to do to get going on this book and her other book too (The Pilates Body).

I flagged the pages for 3 different days of workouts. So the top set of flags I did one day, the set of flags on the side of pages I did the second day, and set of flags on bottom of pages I do the third day. Then I rotate back to the 1st day of flags at the top of pages.Otherwise it would have seemed too grueling and arduous a workout.I can't be stuck on my living room floor for 8 hours a day.I gotta get this done in 45-minutes then get to work.Maybe you know what I mean.Pilates, like dance, could go on forever.

This book provides the basis for a good workout, week after week, without getting bored.Anything that keeps you moving, no matter what level you use it at, is GOOD.You can use this at the beginner, intermediate or advanced level, and her pages indicate this too. ... Read more

The Kaplan MAT study guide is an amazing tool.It provided me with all of the best MAT test taking strategies in an easy to understand format.Unlike others that I also purchased, the practice tests in this study guide are in the same format as the real exam (120 questions in 60 minutes), which is critical because part of the goal here is to learn how to pace yourself properly to be able to answer all of the questions in the allotted time frame on the day of the test. The study content included in this guide was right on target and many of the vocabulary words and concepts that I studied thanks to Kaplan, appeared on my actual test.I typically suffer from test anxiety but as they say in this book, "familiarity breeds success".My score on the diagnostic test and the early practice tests wasn't so great but after studying all of the content in the study guide and taking several practice tests per week, they improved drastically! On the real exam I am proud to say that I scored in the 91st percentile thanks to hard work and the aid of this book.I highly recommend it. ... This text offers a critique of traditional interviewing practices and provides a framework for thinking about issues such as trustworthiness, identity, and language in a conceptual rather than technical context, allowing you to develop your own reflexive practice. The research interview is in with the brick and mortar of qualitative research, and is one of the routine methods of obtaining knowledge of individuals, groups, and organizations. Through the use of eight original metaphors drawing on trends in language, subject, and discourse, this cutting-edge text will encourage you to question the interpretive nature and theoretical underpinnings not only of your interview method, but of the knowledge which is conveyed through it.

4-0 out of 5 stars scripture version of Encyclopedia Brown
I read about this book in a homeschooling magazine and decided to buy it because we needed more stories to read aloud that had definite morals to them. We have read the first chapter and my son, age 8, is hooked already. He enjoyed reading Encyclopedia Brown last fall and this book is similar in format in that you have a complete mystery and resolution in each chapter. However each mystery comes with a Bible verse to help you solve it. My son sat with his Bible open on his lap while I read the story and he looked up the verse and then tried to figure out the solution. I'm thankful for any book that can get my kids interested in reading AND give them oppotunity to become more familiar with their Bibles!

5-0 out of 5 stars Such a GREAT book!
I have had this book for years, since it first came out. I finally sat down and read it last week and finished the whole thing in one night! I loved it! I will be getting the other two for me, then passing them down to my kids as they get older, and buying them as gifts. Kept me guessing, great writing style, I just really liked this book and would reccomend it to anyone who likes mysteries, like the Hardy Boys or 3 Investigators.

We took this book to our grandchildren in California, and just put it on the table for them. That night we discovered the 11 year old girl sitting on the bunk bed reading to her 8 year old brother. No pressure from us. They had solved the first 4 mysteries, using both simple deduction and byapplying the biblical cues.

5-0 out of 5 stars A young readers delight
This book introduces readers to a new way of reading a book. The author creates a story but leaves the reader to solve the mystery. The chapters are short enough so younger kids won't get bored with the story, but long enough to keep you wondering how each mystery will be solved.A new andfresh idea for young readers who want to use the Bible as their everydaysword. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Nuts and bolts of scenario planning
I saw an review in Harvard Business School and I fully agree with them: "...serious but yet it's the friendliest introduction to the nuts and bolts of scenario planning that you are likely to find..." I reallyrecommend this book to everyone who wants to explore, understand and have an impact on the future.

4-0 out of 5 stars Practical tools for future strategy
This is an eminently practical book on scenario and strategy development. The language is simple, straight-forward with many examples, tools and anecdotes. In a verbal style, with lots of figures and bullet point lists, the five chapters in a way resembles lectures.
As faculty and lecturer at the Norwegian School of Management I find this book a perfect supplement in the curriculum to the two classics: P. Schwartz' "Art of the long view" and van Heijden "Scenarios". This book occupies a kind of middle-position between Schwartz' very popular and narrative account and van Heijden's more rational-academic discourse, which some practitioners find a hard read. Not like this one. There's not much deep philosophy either, as in J. Ogilvys recent "Creating Better Futures". The chapter on scenario planning in practice (#3) contains loads of simple, informative examples, written much shorter and to the point, than G. Ringland's three books on scenarios with much-detailed cases, repetitions and a weak structure.
In short - this book is a toolbox with instructions manual. As the Swedish authors Lindgren and Bandhold themselves say in the book; "Get yourself a toolbox". If you, as a manager or consultant want to learn, update or expand your portfolio of future oriented strategy tools, this one is The Choice. ... Read more

Product Description

The widespread practice of intervention by outside actors aimed at building ‘sustainable peace’ within societies ravaged by war has been a striking feature of the post-Cold War era. But, at a time when more peacekeepers are deployed around the world than at any other point in history, is the international will to intervene beginning to wane? And how capable are the systems that exist for planning and deploying ‘peacebuilding’ missions of fulfilling the increasingly complex tasks set for them?

In Building Peace After War, Mats Berdal addresses these and other crucial questions, examining the record of interventions from Cambodia in the early 1990s to contemporary efforts in Afghanistan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The book analyses the nature of the modern peacebuilding environment, in particular the historical and psychological conditions that shape it, and addresses the key tasks faced by outside forces in the early and critical ‘post-conflict’ phase of an intervention. In doing so, it asks searching questions about the role of military force in support of peacebuilding, and the vital importance of legitimacy to any intervention.

Berdal also looks critically at the ways in which governments and international organisations, particularly the UN, have responded to these many challenges. He highlights the pivotal role of politics in planning peacebuilding operations, and offers some sober reflections on the future prospects for post-conflict intervention.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice book for office or train
It's the kind of book to keep in your office drawer for those unnerving times that inevitably arise in day-to-day life situation. It reminds youof the principles and practices of Yoga, and neatly divides its not-so-neat philosophy into multiple categories easy for the reader to identify with. Whileit breaks no new ground in discussing Yoga, and can be New-Agey in its mostly tip-of-the-iceberg approach to the topic, the "pearls" are real gems and help to balance the mind, body and soul. A lovely book to remind yourself of the higher ground that surrounds you always!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great book, not so great format
I love the information presented in this book.Only problem is its size. The book would have been so much more useful if it had been 6x9 instead of a mere 4.5x5.The book is hard to read without breaking the binder, so after some wear the pages will most likely pull out of the cover.

All in all though it is a treasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Gem
This was a random find and I love just opening this little book to a page and read the quotes or wisdom therein. I liked it so much, I bought a hardcover copy as a gift to someone or just as a coffee book. Its a little book and so portable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great info in a small presentation
I really liked this small but "big" book, basic begginers' info but refreshing. The good thing about yoga and this book is that each time you read/practice it you see something else you didn't "read/saw" before.
Really fits in your gym bag.

5-0 out of 5 stars yoga wisdom
As the product suggests, this book is full of wisdom from around the globe and centuries.I love, LOVE this book because it has yoga teachings and many other useful guidance for life. I strongly recommend this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Value in gaming supplies
I'm finding it hard to believe there is anyone who could rate these flipmats at anything less than 5-stars.

Seriously, this is the best value in gaming supplies out there. I have three of them, they fold up nicely, and with some wear, they always lay flat. They are made of card-stock paper, not thick cardboard, which some people seemed surprised at, but I wouldn't personally be interested in carrying around a heavy thick folded up stack of cardboard. Once these have been used a few times, folded in various ways, they lay perfectly flat.

They hold up well, they don't stain from the ink or dry or wet erase markers. I don't bother with tiles or anything besides these now, nor do I ever bring out my old Chessex vinyl mat (which is permanently ruined by dry-erase markers).

These flipmats are reliable and hardy, I can't remember what we used for game maps before these.

4-0 out of 5 stars Gamemaster Flip-mat
This mat fulfills all your dry/wet erase marker needs. Its durable , perfectly scaled in 1 inch squares and for a semblance of variety the flip side is more sandy colored. As a long time DM i pulled this mat out to my group of 3 new players and it instantly changed the game for them. Now instead of waiting on me to find a scrap paper to doodle on I whip out the marker and instantly sketch . One player actually noted that the game felt more real now that we were using the flip.

The only complain is that factory folding leaves it slightly bent at the creases but most of this can be combated by leaving several heavy books on it for a while. All in all this is a simple yet well constructed game aid for any role playing game.

4-0 out of 5 stars Got this just to try it
We bought this product to try it out, the price was right. My boyfriend and I are very happy with it and will be buying more flip mats for out D&D adventures as they progress. I really like that it adds just a small amount of color rather than the regular boring file color of regular mats. It fold ip nicely to roughly the size of our DM board, and I store it for us in a plastic bag that our graphic novels come in for safer storage. We originally used wet erase markers, but recently started using dry erase, and find that quite more enjoyable that the wet erase markers. We can mover faster from room to room. The smaller size allows all of us players to sit around one card table we and the DM at another. It gives us both more room to do what we need to keep things running faster. Campaigns, run much faster with our flip mat than with a traditional mat. The only draw back it the creases, but the convinces out weight this small annoyance. It mainly was only an annoyance during die roles. We solved this problem with Tray I purchased at the dollar store to role our die in.

2-0 out of 5 stars Gamemastery Flipmat Review
I'm not going to troll, im not going to fan-boy this. I saw it here, and though it was a great deal. I wont lie, i thought it would be a vinyl type mat, i was sadly mistaken however. This showed up at my door looking like a laminated piece of paper. I could have made it myself for cheaper. But, im not going to only bash it, it does serve its purpose, for the most part. Its a good beginners mat for role playing games (i.e. Dnd etc.) If you are an experienced player, or want a mat that will last you for years, i suggest you go with a game mat by Chessex, they're well priced for a heavy duty mat that will last a good amount of time. So that's it, i can say im amazed with this product, but im severly disappointed with what i got in the mail. Hope this is useful to even one person.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Dungeon Master Item
I am the Dungeon Master for a group at my school.I wanted to get a good drawing board (reusable) for cheap. Also, I wanted it big. This is perfect. In addition to being easy to clean, it is big and sturdy. It works perfect.$10 is a great price too.One third of the price compared to other brands.I highly recommend this. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars useful resource
This study guide was useful because it gave examples of test questions that would not have made sense before reading.

1-0 out of 5 stars Many mistakes throughout; don't buy this aid
I purchased the Kaplan MAT Fifth Edition guide to prepare for the exam.I have found numerous errors in information in a variety of areas, such as Music, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, Art and vocabulary. If you study with this guide, you'll get many answers wrong.Just to be sure, I purchased at my expense another study aid and their answers were correct. For example, an Anthropology question, Kaplan has "Diane Goodall-Africa" as the correct answer but her name is Jane Goodall. Also, the symbol they use for Tin is Sa but it is Sn.One question asked about the national currency for four countries.Well, if they had updated their info, the Lira would not be Italy's currency, it would be the Euro! The study guide also has two different answers for the same question asked in different sections, so lots of inconsistencies.Don't buy this aid.

4-0 out of 5 stars MAT Review
The book has been useful so far!I don't know anything about the MAT and it's taught me good stratgies so far, hope it helps me to get a good score on the MAT

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect!
My book arrived with perfect timing and in perfect condition. I could not ask for more.

2-0 out of 5 stars Could have been better
The book has a lot of information but in my case when I took my test I hardly saw anything I was told to look out for in the book. I felt the same way when I took my first practice test as when I took the actual test, lost and unsure of my performance. The study lists contained in the book were very helpful I just felt like the practice tests were not comparable with the actual test.

My first issue was the practice tests, there was no way to allow for the 20 questions that do not count so you score could vary up to 20 points in either direction. My suggestion would be to select 20 random questions and exclude those from the score. This in theory can give you a more accurate score but YMMV. The second issue was the actual test seemed not to follow the books description of getting progressively harder questions as you took the test. They seemed to be very random with very easy questions next to difficult questions. the trick questions that dealt with word and letter play didn't even appear in my test but there are numerous ones that are abundantly clear in the practice tests. Of course this may be a result of the randomly selected set of questions I got.

The bottom line is that I did well on my test scoring in the 80th percentile which is the high end of the average scores for the masters program I am perusing. If you have the opportunity and money, (30 bucks per practice test), purchase a computer based practice test so you are familiar with the computer based test format before taking the actual test. FYI, the score you receive at the end of the test is a scaled score so you really have no clue what you actually got till you get your result in the mail.

Good luck! ... Read more

Product Description
I had seriously reached a point in my life where I wasn't scared of anything. Panic was replaced by awww, shit, how can I fix this before I hit the ground?

Childhood for Mat Hoffman was packed with hazardous behavior and a constant searching for a new rush: sliding down the laundry chute, blatantly misusing a trampoline, leaping off the roof holding an umbrella, executing a two-story bomb drop into a swimming pool on a bike, and more. After experimenting with his bike on a plywood ramp at age eleven, Mat found his true calling. He became addicted to aerials.

By the time he was fourteen years old, Mat had earned national notoriety with his ramp skills and landed a factory sponsorship from Skyway Recreation. He was consumed by a love of bike riding, a passion that took him around the globe and beyond the limits of what people said was possible. Always pushing for more height or another way to turn air into art, he's shattered world records, conventional wisdom, and his own body in a quest to experience all that life has to offer. The price? More than a dozen major surgeries, fifty broken bones, countless concussions and knockouts -- Mat's sacrifices are evident in a medical file that's 400 pages thick.

When the boom years of BMX freestyle bottomed out during a bike industry recession in the late 1980s, Mat's enthusiasm never wavered. To save his sport, he bought a semi truck when he was seventeen and became his own sponsor, spreading the word one demo at a time. He and his friends formed Hoffman Bikes and began running bike stunt contests. It was an era of progress for Mat as a rider, as he unveiled jawdropping tricks like the no-handed 540, backflip fakie, and flair, and became the first rider in action sports to pull a 900.

In The Ride of My Life, Mat takes readers on his humorous, hardcore, harrowing journey to the top as a bike stunt pioneer, ten-time world champion, video game superstar, X Games ambassador, recreational ninja, and the most innovative rider to ever hit a ramp. He shares stories of the wild experiences he's had while touring with some of the best riders around -- Dennis McCoy, Dave Mirra, Rick Thorne, Kevin Robinson, Mike "Rooftop" Escamilla, and many others.

Spanning two decades of action sports history, as Mat crosses paths with high-risk heroes like Tony Hawk, Johnny Knoxville, and Evel Knievel, The Ride of My Life is the insane, true story of Mat Hoffman, the greatest bike rider of all time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Old school rider loves this book
I'm a 35 year old bmx rider. I read about all the stuff that is in this book, but from the point of view from the people writing the articles. It's realy cool to hear the behind the sceens version of it all.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Book , but ...
Great book , but it has some bad language in it . I recomend it for people sixteen to thirty , not much of a kids book . I haven't finished it yet , on chapter 12 . Great for someone into extreme sports , like skateboarding , snowboarding , surfing , or BMX .

5-0 out of 5 stars The best bmx legend of all time
Wow, what else needs to be said about Mat Hoffman? He's the godfather of pretty much everything bmx freestyle. Whether it be street, ramp, vert, big ramp whatever. Mat was busting out all the biggest and gnarliest tricks and creating this big book of tricks almost the size of your typical yellow pages book. Alot of the stuff Mat did back in the 80s and early 90s-- well it would be rare not to see any rider from today not pulling the same tricks. And he invented most of those tricks. Hell, I do alot of the tricks Mat invented haha. Let's not forget he was also the first person in the world to ever pull a 900 on a vert ramp. Even rollerbladers and skaters weren't doing 900s and their rotations are easier since they don't have the weight of a 30 lb bike between their legs.

Mat did pretty much everything on his bike. He's one of the few vert riders in the world who can probably say there's nothing left to do on his bike anymore, but that's not gonna stop him from riding.

In this book you'll read about his life on and off his bike. I don't want to get into detail here since it covers alot, but even if you don't ride bmx and are looking for something to read about somebody who pushed the limits of gravity and inspired many riders today, then add Mat Hoffman's autobiography to your list.

Let's not forget he was also the first person to pull off the flair and will probably be the only person on the entire planet to pull a no handed 900 on vert... and I'm serious about that. And I'm pretty sure no one else is gonna huck themselves 50 feet in the air being pulled from a motorcycle.

5-0 out of 5 stars No pads, No helmets, Just balls!
One word to describe the sky flying superman of BMX.....DARING! This man has broken enough bones to have the hospitals on speed dial! Hes amazing in every way a rider living his dreams just like the others. Mat is not just a rider though hes an artist in the sky. His bike is the brush and the ramp is his canvas. He is the creater and godfather of biking today. He is like tupac, always remebered. Mat you have taught me more of how to have fun and get out their. Now i know to never get knocked down without a fight!

Product Description
Fashion photography and fashion drawing are not only images of creation, but creations in and of themselves--productions of beauty, of outfit, and of lifestyle. They mediate images of fashion's fast trade which, as visual statements, are long-lasting, extending well beyond the day. In Unified Message, photographers and draftsmen carry on an unusual dialogue. Pictures by three of the most important fashion photographers of our time-- Peter Lindbergh, Paolo Roversi, and Alexei Hay--are questioned, commented on, and extended by three fashion illustrators of international renown--Mats Gustafson, Ruben Toledo, and François Berthoud. The radiating power of fashion is here revealed in the interplay of their respective images.
