4-0 out of 5 stars shipped before expected date
book was shipped via normal delivery well before scheduled date, in good condition. i highly recommend this seller

5-0 out of 5 stars Must-have for the MCAT and physics course
I bought quite a few books to study for the MCAT - the entire Exam Krackers study package and question books, and the Gold Standard MCAT book. The only one that I can say absolutely made a huge difference for me was the MCAT Physics Book.

I did awful (like, embarrassingly awful!) in both semesters of physics in college and essentially had to start from scratch when preparing for the MCAT.I wish I would have had this book when I was taking physics! It was like 'Hallelujah!", I finally understand.

Each chapter effectively and concisely explains the concepts, gives good examples, and is never tedious to read. The practice problems are not MCAT-style format but they are great for learning the material.

To anyone taking the MCAT who needs extra help in the physics department, I would say do not rely on EK Physics! This book is exponentially better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stellar compliment to other programs.
I recommend this to every student who finds the physics aspect of the MCAT the most challenging. For my first rough go around as a junior on an AAMC pre-test, I scored a 13 on the Biological sciences (my organic chemistry is pristine), and a 10 on the Physical sciences, the massive chasm being a result of solubility/phase chemistry and archaic physics topics (my modern physics is also pristine). This book, which I received three days ago, has illuminated several issues. If you have problems with:: Centripetal force, banking, cars; gravitational force; and reading graphs & knowing when to utilize the area under the curve, this will compliment everything taught in the Examkrackers or Kaplan versions. I actually recommend this PLUS Examkrackers Physics, as they seem to compliment one another where I had areas of weaknesses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Product and fast shipment
this is brand new just as described as in the product details.the shipment also came in quickly

5-0 out of 5 stars Great review and practice
I'm really glad I got this book. I was able to review my physics material quickly and efficiently. The author encourages you to understand rather than memorize concepts and provides questions with increasing difficulty to help you practice using concepts in direct and abstract settings. There are also detailed solutions to each question. It only took me three days to understand all the basic concepts from first-semester physics (the first 1/2 of the book).

It has been several years since my last physics class, someone who needs less review and more practice may need a more advanced book. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Use with other books
This is a good refresher book for those that haven't had chemistry in a while. However I would recommend using it in conjunction with either Examcrackers or Kaplan as well as a chemistry textbook for reference.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GOOD GUIDE!!!
I used mcatchemistry book for the Aug. MCAT. It was great! idid well on the test and this book played a good role. The book is agood guide for mcat chem preparation for both genral & organic. *****

4-0 out of 5 stars An Adequate Refresher!
the MCAT Chemistry touched the essential key concepts in chemistry for the MCAt. It functioned as a good refresher for me.

1-0 out of 5 stars Completely incomplete!
This books provides skimpy coverage of the chemistry you'll need for the MCAT.There are very few practice problems and they do not reflect the MCAT format.Don't bother.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great
I thought this book was really useful after I had read the material from the Kaplan review books.I used this as practice because the passages are like the real MCAT.I didn't bother with the strategies though.

4-0 out of 5 stars Probably worth the money
Some interesting test trategy tips in each section and the (hard) questions are nice extra practice. Wouldn't pay more than $30, but luckily that's how much it was.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sample passages are good
The sample passages in this book are the only passages that come close to being as difficult as the real MCAT.Make sure to do them under timed conditions for most benefit. The rest of the book explains Kaplan's "Passage Mapping" which is fine if you have more than 2 minutes to read a passage and 1 minute to answer each question.Students with the potential to score a 45 on the MCAT are likely to understand how to find key points in passages and students who need to bring up their scores will find strategies in this book that will only help if you are a fast reader who needs help breaking down the MCAT passages. My summary: the prep questions are helpful; the strategies are not.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent way to round off MCAT PREP
I am a pre-med student preparing for the MCAT. I wanted help to really pull my grade up from the upper-middle quadrant to the highest quadrant. This book really helps you hone your thinking on what the MCAT wants you to be prepared to know, as well as provides a good reality check ( since the questions are fairly difficult) to where you stand. The explainations are in detail and excellent. The only thing to consider before investing in this manual is that its a relatively short book without extensive examples and study questions. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Textbook as Theft, $tudents as Dollar $igns
The McGraw-Hill MCAT guide is a piecemeal collection of formulae and problems garnered from the company's various textbooks. From the broad, shoddy organization of the book, to the frequent typos, the McGraw-Hill MCAT book succeeds only in its true mission: to squeeze money out of students while keeping production costs as low as possible.

Most importantly, much of the information presented in the typical textbook is extraneous for the MCAT. It is imperative that MCAT guides at least minimally recognize the patterns and format of the MCAT. Only in the first ten or so pages (on basic Newtonian physics) do the authors acknowledge the material that will or will not be on the MCAT. In other sections, they go into excruciating detail, providing tables and formulae that I can only surmise I shouldn't memorize because they are far too complex.

The book presents almost no analysis or recognition of the types of problems that will be on the MCAT. In fact, most of the problems presented in the text are irrelevant. MCAT questions are disparate from most questions we would run into in college textbooks; calculators are not permitted in the MCAT, so any problem requiring more than a very simple mathematical operation will never be on the it.

On the other hand, certain aspects of those tables and the authors' meandering theoretical explanations are important. It is vital that future authors delineate precisely what should and should not be studied for the MCAT. If not, the authors are simply wasting students' time. We all know the singular reason why we buy these books: to study for the MCAT. What is relevant should be implicit in the content of the book.

The "review" materials they provide are not suitable for MCAT prep; they simply copy and paste the main points from the text, presumably in order to fill up more pages so the guide can exceed 1,000 pages, like their competitors' books. Except for some of the biology sections, almost no pictures are provided. The two practice tests provided in the accompanying CD have the exact same errors: typos, ambiguities, problems not suited to the MCAT. The practice tests do not even provide you with an actual MCAT grade (e.g., 30/45); they grade you based on percentages (e.g., 70% of questions correct) and do not even provide a timer (your time will not expire at 60 or 70 minutes, the length of the different MCAT sections).

It is shameful, but unsurprising, that McGraw Hill, which owns the Standard and Poor's rating agencies complicit in driving millions of people into poverty during the latest economic crisis, would also prey on pre-medical students with an ersatz review guide.

Use your time and money on another book. Do not buy Examkrackers: their glowing Amazon reviews are clearly formulated by company employees. Similarly, I would take the previous, glowing 4-star review here with a grain of salt.

I have read the newest Princeton Review MCAT book Cracking the MCAT, 2010-2011 Edition (Graduate School Test Preparation), which came out in April 2010, and it admirably fixes almost all of the problems I addressed above, although there are about a dozen minor typos I have found so far (e.g., discreet v. discrete, "the reactants iaZn [sic] the following reaction").

I have not read any Kaplan books but have heard positive reviews about them.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great diagrams thanks to publishing company
I am using this book in conjunction with the official MCAT topics list to fill out a study outline. The great part about this book is that it has excellent figures- MUCH better than the doodles given in Kaplan, Examkrackers, etc. This is because McGraw Hill uses images from its biology books that are very nicely done. I would highly recommend this book for its diagrams and low cost as a SUPPLEMENT to your MCAT preparation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars All you need for MCAT
The book offers a comprehensive review of the subjects, everything is concise and to the point. Offers excellent exercises which are very close to the actual test. Good luck on MCAT.

2-0 out of 5 stars The info is there, but not very well written.
I have just gone through this book, and I haven't taken the MCATs yet so I can't tell you exactly how useful this book is.What I can tell you is that, while all the information is there, and it is usually presented quite well, this book could really use a good editor.

Besides being full of typos, there are even a few substantial errors in the material. And you don't have to be a science major (which I am) to catch them.Sometimes they just blatantly contradict themselves from one page to the next. And then there's just annoying little things like "too" instead of "two."

So overall, I cannot recommend this book.I gave this a 2-star instead of a 1-star because the information IS all there, and usually its presented pretty clearly. But you have to be on your toes the whole time.Which I guess is not really a bad thing, but if you are going to shell out $50+ for a book, at least get something that is accurate and well written.Being"usually" accurate won't get you very far as a doctor right!?

3-0 out of 5 stars The MCAT preparation with this book
This book is rather extensive. Tries to cover a very wide range of subjects. I must say that lacks clarity in certain subjects regarding Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
Examples:
The valence and atomic orbitals are not clear enough ( and this is a basic point ). The redox reactions are a little short and they don't include inductrial processes, like the extraction from ore.
Of course, for these type of tests, with so vast amount of information to cover, is not easy to make a perfect book.
I would say that, in general, with some modifications, the book might be really excellent ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars this edition help me from 27 to 35 on MCAT in 2009
A lot people think the latest edition Kaplan material is the best, but they forget the process of revolution of official MCAT. This edition of Kaplan keeps the most efficient brainstorming format for me. All sections are short but all to the point of real MCAT. I was using kaplan online but did not score well on my first time, but when hearing advice from current Kaplan MCAT private tutor, I cannot believe i can improve this much and got into all california UC med schools and some IVY med schools. This tutor told me that most Kaplan tutors still use OLD-Paper format materials to teach students and have successful results. The CBT MCAT materials can easily blind your vision on the most high yield passages, unless you compare and look back at the old paper format MCAT materials to re-emphasize and re-evaluate your own weakness. I am the REAL example here.

5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
This book was for my daughter school and she was impressed how fast it got her and the condition of the book.We look you up if you should have any other books that she needs for med school.Thank you again

4-0 out of 5 stars great starting point
This book is a great starting point in your self-study. It will not be the only book you need due to it's lack of all exclusivity. It's a bit of a rewiew book but it doesn't include all the knowledge you will ever need to ace the MCAT (but what book does?). The book excels at providing an excellent overview of how you should study as well as what you should study. From the content list the book provides I can easily go online and research a specific topic. With my busy life I don't have time to read 100 textbooks. Since the MCAT is testing your ability to apply knowledge and not regurgitate it this method works for me. I don't regret buying this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is a joke!
This books is an utter joke. You won't believe the number of errors in the questions, and the back of the book answers. They even switched the pictures for questions. The content is pretty good - and definitely worth reading for a good physics review. But without good practice questions, you will never learn how to apply the problems - and that's why this book is a total failure. You won't believe the amount of time I wasted trying to understand the back of the chapter answers (only to realize that I was right the whole time - I even had to talk to professors). Some of the answers you know right away the book got wrong. But MANY of them you just end up so confused, and you waste precious time on those problems. It's almost as if they just print editions after editions without making any corrections - KAPLAN is a waste of money.

If I had to do it again, I would've read the examkrackers for physics - it's the best book and I'm reading it right now.

2-0 out of 5 stars errors
I also noticed errors in this book. On the practice problems, the diagrams are mismatched with the problems. In chapter one for example, the diagram for problem 13 is under problem 15. In addition, the answer key and explanations are sometimes completely wrong. In problem 17 of chapter one, the explanation starts with v=x/t, but then two lines later it changes to v=x*t, which completely screws up the rest of the problem and the answer.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kaplan MCAT Physics 2009-2010
The theory text is well done however the practice problems are poorly done; I found a demonstration problem on pp49 to be fairly blatantly wrong due to an incorrect factor substitution (I have a science background - I can do my substitutions !) I'm working through the momentum questions at present and have found them to be too few and too hard; they are difficult, advanced problems with no build up in complexity level to build problem solving skills - compared to other texts (eg. the Schaum series), this physics manual needs more thought put into the problem solving skills development which is a vital part of physics education - maybe this can be gained by combination with a problems manual eg 1001 problems in MCAT physics . . . or similar college physics problems manual.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Material, but redundant if you have the Premiere Course Book
I bought this book as a supplement to the MCAT Premiere Course book for extra physics review.I assumed that there would be new course material, but instead it was a verbatim copy from the Premiere book. The only differences were the new "teacher tips" notes in the margins, plus a LOT of practice questions you won't find in the Premiere book.If extra practice questions and margin notes are worth an extra $30 to you, then by all means get the book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Seems ok, if you ignore the apparent lack of proofreading...
A cursory glance of this book would have you believe that it is quality study material, but this is not the case. Granted, I still plan to use it to study for the MCATs, but after going through the first chapter, I am beginning to wonder if Kaplan even employs proofreaders. There are multiple cases of figures that do not correspond to any nearby examples, as well as blatant errors in the problem sets (I have hit at least 2, and this is in the first 17 questions) that will have you second guessing your correct answers. If it weren't for the fact that I needed this book now, I would probably return it, and wait for Kaplan to get their act together. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The MCAT Biology Book
This is an awful book for MCAT preparations, especially if you've taken a decent Biology course in college. There are by no means enough practice problems, maximum 10-11 questions at the end of each chapter, the material is far too simply described, and sparse. Reading a textbook is far more useful.

1-0 out of 5 stars Lacking....
This MCAT review text is deeply lacking compared to other preparation texts on the market. The presentation of the material is very rough and difficult to follow. For those who enjoy studying colorful text with diagrams, figures, bold keywords etc.. look elsewhere, this is not your book. (Might I suggest Examkrackers MCAT Biology (Examkrackers) Aside from the presentation, the quality and depth of the material is insufficient to be used as your sole guide in preparing for MCAT Biology.I daresay my middle school "Life Science" textbook contained more depth on some topics. Considering the price and the quality of alternate preparation texts, I cannot recommend this particular book.

5-0 out of 5 stars just enough
I can't even tell you how many books I have purchased that claim they offer only info. relavant to the MCAT and nothing more...in which they wind up giving you all the superfluous stuff that *may* be on the MCAT.
Well, this book is different. It cuts out all the extra mumbo jumbo and tells you like it is. Want to know about Glycolysis, fermentation, Kreb's cycle and the ETC all in2 hours memorized? Buy this book...it has a unique way of explaining things that other books, and professors, didn't know how to do. I found myself relating difficult concepts together much easier in this book than any other.
HOWEVER, it is not by any means a COMPREHENSIVE review -- please note! This would be more of a supplement to your materials. But with that said, it is really good to breeze through difficult stuff.
I think it's great and it has boosted my confidence in the material for the MCAT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hello!
Thank you for all your hard work! This book was great!

4-0 out of 5 stars Concise review of Biology and Verbal portions of the MCAT
This book covers all the basics of biology. For someone like me, who had a lacking undergrad bio course, this book helps. The diagrams throughout the book are very helpful because they give you another way of remembering the concepts. This book is limited with testing questions, and is betterused as a study aid.All in all, this is great for reviewing bio, but itshould not be your only source of studying for the MCAT bio section.Ihave not yet looked at the verbal section, but it looks promising. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars This book is okay if you are really advanced..
I would only recommend this collection of practice tests to those who are doing really well and need a challenge.

I would NOT recommend this for the purposes of:

-Estimating your potential MCAT score: My AAMC scaled scores were very different (over 4 scaled pts).

-Getting use to MCAT length or timing: Columbia has 11 passages in 100 mins, AAMC has 7 passages in 70 or 75 mins.

-Getting use to passage structure: AAMC tests have more diagrams, and are much better worded (easier to read).

-Deciding which test-taking strategies will be necessary: This book requires you to draw your own diagrams very frequently, which is not the case with AAMC practice tests. Also, almost all, AAMC tests answer choices are susceptable to the process of elimination (if you know the subjects in AAMC's Official Test Guide well).

I WOULD recommend this for anyone who is no longer challenged by flashcards, and regular MCAT material - but is determined to do a super job.Or anyone who has already taken the other MCAT practice tests available.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for practice
Excellent book, the three tests were very much like the real MCAT, although some questions are a little off-the-wall overall, the book is excellent, definitely worth getting.

A MUST HAVE book

3-0 out of 5 stars GREAT FOR THE SCIENCES!
This book has very good practice tests for the science sections (although there are a few errorshere and there. If you know your stuff, you'll be able to pick them out and they won't phase you. For example, in twoplaces they ask you to name an organic compound, and don't name itcorrectly in any of the choices!!!)Despite these tiny errors, thepractice tests are very good and very helpful....EXCEPT THE VERBALSECTIONS!!!SKIP THE VERBAL SECTIONS - there are MANY questions which havemore than one correct answer in the choices, some questions which have nocorrect answers and the occasional question which asks for your opinion!!!! you'd never see any question without ONE correct answer on the MCAT andthese verbal sections will drive you nuts!I'd still get the book andsubstitute a different verbal for the ones here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Best practice tests I've seen
Though this book has a few mistakes, the question formats in the science sections are just like those of the MCAT, and the explanations are great. The authors didn't cut corners by making up shoddy passages or trivialquestions. These practice tests are as close to the real thing as theyget.

4-0 out of 5 stars The tests are a good copy of the real thing.
The tests were a good challenge; however, the verbal section is not designed quite like that of the actual mcat but both test the same skills. There are few mistakes in the physical and biological sections, and someexplanations for the verbal sections are confusing.Overall, these testsare a good imitation of the actual mcat. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Not very useful for serious MCAT review
I didn't find these flashcards useful because they only include definitions (just like a glossary from any review book). I was looking for a set of flashcards that will summarize processes using drawings/schemes. I was very disappointed when I got them.

2-0 out of 5 stars Lame at best, waste of money at worst
Don't buy these, they just aren't that useful. If one were to take the time he/she spent looking at these crappy things and instead simply wrote the underlined words from the Examkrackers books onto note cards he or she would probably be better off. These pretty much suck.Buy the Nova physics and cartoon guides to phys and chem instead, that way you actually learn something.I hate myself for having bought these flashcards, and only hope that my children, should they be healthy and reach adulthood, will grow to both understand and forgive my transgressions.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
I thought this product was good but I didn't receive it until right after I took the mcat.I did look at it and everything seemed to be in order and very helpful if you didn't want to make the cards yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sarah
Worth the money. An easy to use quick reference of key terms that you can take on-the-go.It won't cover all your study needs, but it does what it was intended to do well.

5-0 out of 5 stars A+for Absolutely Awesome
The person who made the previous post obviously didn't look very hard at the book or try to study with it, or they would have realized that the definitions upside-down beneath the words are NOT the definition to THAT word. This is a long, thin book of flashcards with a vocab word on the Front of the page and the definition on the Back of the same page. The book does go upside down, but this is because there are more words/defs printed upside-down, therefore using the entire page (since the single word/definitions only take up half a page). So the book read right-side up is Bio, and the book held upside down and read normally is half Bio and half Orgo Chem.
Personally, I love my MCAT Bio flipbook and keep it with me at all times. Also, they have the recommended function of bending down/cutting off the corner of a page once you've mastered the word, and have gray corners for this purpose. This is really handy for flipping past words you already know.
I give it an A+.The only reason I was even at this site is that I want to buy the Physical Sciences one now because I love the Bio so much. Handy and helpful. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Longer than new CBT MCAT, but still relevant questions.
My practice scores on these longer tests lined up +-2 points with the AAMC tests. This will help build stamina since they are the older, longer format.

2-0 out of 5 stars Does not relate closely to the real MCAT
I supppose that this is a good book in that the level at which it reviews the material is extremely in-depth. That being said, it is also extremely demoralizing to take these tests as tests. I was getting roughly 12's and the occasional 13 on the MCATs own practice subtests, which hue very closely to the actual exam. On the Princeton tests, I got 7's and 8's. There is approxiametly one question in each section that is not just beyond the scope of the MCAT but beyond the scope of any of the undergraduate courses I took. I ended up wasting time on the internet or going through old texts to figure out what was going on, before I realized that this was a really bad way to spend the time I had to prepare for a test that really does look radically different from what's presented in this book. That being said though, if you want to get 15's on the test, and want to develop a more sophisticated grasp on the material, and have the extra time to spend then buy the book. But use it more like a workbook than a timed test. Taking the tests timed wont simulate the actual MCAT and will only serve to stress you out when you don't know some obscure fact that the MCAT would never test you on. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great quesitons
This book has great questions and is a fantastic companion to the review book. Some quesions on this book are repeated in the review book and CD so beware. Otherwise, a great book that will help solidify your test taking techniques and fill in gaps in your knowledge base.

That said, I really benefited from doing tons and tons of questions. I would get this book but also spend some extra cash on getting more questions and full length tests with answers/explanations and grading scales to really asess where you are.

Good luck!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great explanations
I'm so glad I found this book! Yeah, I'm great at organic chem andcalculus, but I HATE taking multiple-choice tests! But Kaplan's workbooklet me practice, practice, practice, until I had the test-taking strategiesdown pat. And those questions I did get wrong were immediately clarified bythe detailed explanations.

3-0 out of 5 stars kaplan book
I found the kaplan book to be pretty good in exercises for the mcat.Definitely not a place to start studying. But when you're more experienced, then it is wise to hit this book.Has one full test and a fewsectional exams. It would be better to just enroll in a prep course andget the full experience.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good Practice
The Kaplan MCAT workbook gives a couple helpful hints when taking the MCAT.The hints are about how you take the test and some information about what the MCAT is, but says nothing about what you should study.Theworkbook, however, has some work sections and a practice test that doreflect the real MCAT.If you want practice test though, actual past testshave been released which you can look over.

5-0 out of 5 stars MCAT
Great for those who don't want to pay for the course from Kaplan. It is pricey though.

4-0 out of 5 stars very good
The book with its CD was new as it was described but
the bag that was shipped in was torn. i beleive it was not good enough for
a five pound book.

1-0 out of 5 stars False Advertisement
The book is not bad at all since it provides a good review of important concept for the MCAT. Nonetheless, I'm giving this product one star because eventhough it clearly stated in the cover that a full lenght test was available online this is a complete lie. The test they offer online contains 45 questions for each section: Biological Science, Verbal Resoning and Physical Science when the real test has 52-40-52 questions for each section. The only full lenght test offered is in the book, which is not even worth doing since the new MCAT is computer based.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good value for your money
The Kaplan MCAT review series with CD gives me a better understanding on what I should be concentrating on whem preparing for the MCAT exam.

Overall, this is good value for your money.

1-0 out of 5 stars big mistake!
Buying this book on kindel is a big mistake. The practice questions for each section are un numbered, making it very hard to keep track of your work.It seems like a lot of information is missing, based on having seen phsyical kaplan books.

Also, you do not get the computure practice tests with the kindel offer.

Basically, this is a huge rip off, buy the real book or get a company other than kaplan. ... Read more
