5-0 out of 5 stars excellent for self-practice!
I purchased a used copy of this one (no new copies were available) because I found a study schedule in [...] it is an excellent choice for self-study and the passages really make your thinking plastic for this type of question because they are so varied. Product Description
EXAMBUSTERS Study Cards printed/boxed or on CD-Rom are specifically designed for exam preparation: AP, PSAT, New SAT, SAT II, ACT, PRAXIS, PPSAT, New GRE, GED, New GMAT, New MCAT, CLEP, ASVAB, New York State Regents, HSPT, COOP, SSAT, ISEE, and classroom quizzes, tests, and finals. Each EXAMBUSTERS Study Card title provides a concise, focused review of course material. Only essential facts and formulas are presented. We cover many introductory high school and college courses, and our titles are approved by the New York City Board of Education.

Why are Study Cards the best way to learn?
Because we learn most effectively when we can:
---absorb information in small, progressive increments.
---take an active part in the process
---receive immediate feedback (the answer is shown as soon as we fill in the blank)

Who wrote the cards?
High school teachers, test prep coaches, language experts, professional interpreters and translators, and college professors, with a focus on preparing students for standardized tests such as the AP, New SAT, SAT II, PRAXIS, GRE, GED, GMAT, MCAT, ACT, CLEP, and many others. Each Course in a Box or Course on CD-Rom covers the basics of a full year introductory course. EXAMBUSTERS Study Cards focus only on essential facts, definitions, and formulas. The flash cards were designed to help students learn and review courses efficiently.

What is the advantage of flash card study over textbooks and review books?
---Parents, tutors, and teachers can work together with students. Perfect for home schooling!
---Groups of students can have fun turning a study session into a trivia game.
---Portable: Learn a few each day. A sense of accomplishment grows as your stack of I have no idea! decreases, and the stack of I know the answer! increases.

Who has benefitted from our study cards?
* high school and college students
* head start oriented grade school students
* parents and grandparents concerned about their children's education
* teachers (for classroom, small group activities)
* tutors (for one-on-one teaching)
* business travelers and tourists

What is special about EXAMBUSTERS Study Cards on CD-Rom?
Cutting edge. . . the only series of its kind. User-friendly software--simple for all ages to explore. Study cards are displayed on the screen, one at a time, and can be eliminated from the stack just like printed cards. Our Screensaver Mode displays a new question and answer every few seconds in random order. Learn subliminally! Finally, our test mode randomly selects questions to create a quiz, mid-term, or final--your choice--a new test every time. The EXAMBUSTERS software program keeps track of the test time limit and grades you at test completion. Grades are stored in a table on the help menu so you can track your progress.

What are the computer system requirements for EXAMBUSTERS Study Cards on CD-Rom?
At least 500 MHZ processor, Intel Pentium II (or equivalent), 128 MB of RAM, 400 MB of disk space. Microsoft Windows XP or VISTA operating system, 2x CD-ROM drive, 256-color SVGA monitor: minimum resolution 800 x 600. Not compatible with Macintosh. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great help
These flash cards really help and are convenient for when i'm on the go but have a little time here and there to study.

5-0 out of 5 stars INEXPENSIVE TOOL FOR REVIEW - HELPED WITH SEVERAL CLASSES; SOFTWARE SCREENSAVER TEACHES BY OSMOSIS
I bought several courses. The cards offer basic concepts in small bites. The information was relevant to what was presented by my teacher. The cards and CD's gave good review before exams and a head start at the start of the new school year. The cards had a lot of questions; you can carry them in your pocket and learn a few each day. The software was easy to use. It is like the cards but on the screen. You can take a test or just review. Front is question, click for answer on back of card. The software can also show the cards on the screen at random, first the question, then the answer. They change every few seconds. That keeps you reading and wondering what's coming up next. It's entertaining while you're studying.

1-0 out of 5 stars The cards STINK!
I bought them from barnes and noble thinking...maybe. I was wrong. Save your twelve dollars and get examkrackers. You can learn more from googling mcat topics than you can studying these cards. Please don't buy these cards. I hope the manufacturer goes bankrupt.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not the best but good enough
I took the MCAT many years ago before many of the changes it has undergone over the past few years. That said, I felt that these review cards were really usefull for test preparation. Certainly they are not meant to be primary study tools, and of course they lack the detail needed to learn the grand scheme of things. But for a fast/portable reference tool, nothing beats these things. I used them mostly to jog my memory and to fill in gaps in my knowledge base. I would take a stack of 50 or so and review them while I was waiting in traffic, during my break at work, or while on the bus/train ride to school. They are portable and you can go through them really quickly. It would be a waste of time to use these as a primary study tool or to spend hours on end memorizing and scrutinizing them, but as a quick reference, they work great.

Used in the appropriate manner, these can be an invaluable tool to raise your score.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Tool
For anyone interested in going to medical school this set is the ideal one. Initially, I thought it was simple cards for high school but it builds a foundation and then progresses on to more complicated topics that I had forgotten over the years. Great tool. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Biiiiiiiiig Book Which Allows Multiple Ways to Prepare
Here is Kaplan's state-of-the-art tome. It has what you need: test strategies, practice tests, practice quizzes, detailed explanations, resources online, and a lot of "what to expect."

I cannot imagine anyone working their way through this whole book. I mean, really.

What I appreciate about the Kaplan approach is not merely the amount of content here, but that Kaplan gives you different ways to prepare so that you're ready for your test. After about 20 minutes of cruising through this material, I was able to mount a program that worked for me.

Some random things that I appreciated:
- lots of helpful diagrams
- synopsis boxes
- really helpful color study sheets that have the basics in one place (for example, formulas you once worked with but have now semi-forgotten)

5-0 out of 5 stars Kaplan as usual
Kaplan is known as the clear winner in the test prep category, and this book is no exception.I was surprised at the level of review this book was able to achieve on so many different subjects. In fact, I think the information in this book is a great supplement to the science courses it is summarizing! For instance, in general chem there is a section on the periodic table. This book breaks down each group and discusses the properties, reactivity, etc.It can be as basic as an overview of fundamental nomenclature or as complex and thermodynamics, light and optics, etc.
The handy stuff in the book are the blue boxes at the border of the pages: MCAT Synopsis boxes are a to-the-point summary of the important info, MCAT Favorites are handy little tips to help you remember, Flashbacks are a quick reminder of a key topic covered in a previous chapter, Kaplan Exclusives are sometimes mnemonic reminders or special hints to help recall info, Test Tips point out if an area has more weight on MCAT, Go Online instructs the reader on pertinent online resources associated with the book.
In the end, this book is a wealth of resources that point you to the most important information you will need for MCAT and it includes a great breakdown of the subject matter as well. It's not comprehensive, but a fantastic brush up for a multitude of highly tested areas of Biology, Chemistry (Gen & Organic), Physics and verbal reasoning. There are also plenty of practice test questions and a practice exam.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellet Source
This is a great study source for those applying for the MCAT exam.

It covers Physics, Chemistry, Organic, Biology, Verbal.

Great explanation with diagrams and tests.

Must for all MCATstudents.

4-0 out of 5 stars Kaplan MCAT 2010-2011
Kaplan MCAT 2010-2011 is an extremely well-organized text intended for self-paced learning, review, and practice for the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT). Not only are the topics covered in this book appropriate, they are quite comprehensive. Furthermore, the practice tests are very accurate in terms of simulating the style and difficulty of questions on the real test. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wishing to prepare for the MCAT.

5-0 out of 5 stars Explains how to approach the test
This is a great resource, touching on all the information you need to review before you sit for the MCAT. The material goes way beyond what is available in the book.Using your book's serial number gives you access to so many study opportunities online. There are practice tests that are representative of what you'll encounter on the MCAT, practice quizzes and many video tutorials to refresh what you learned in school . Online, you can even set up your own study guide/syllabus to fit your needs.

The book has a brief explanation of how to use this Premier Program and is then separated into eight sections - MCAT Strategies, Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Verbal Reasoning, Writing Sample, and Full-length Practice MCAT. At the end, there is an index and MCAT resources which includes quick reference study material. Each section has terrific summaries of what you should know, as well as detailed color diagrams when applicable. Sections also have practice questions and the answer keys have clear explanations of not only what the correct answer is, but why the other options are incorrect.

This guide is not so much about memorizing and regurgitating information, but rather helps you understand how to take the test. It points out when to estimate or how to eliminate answers in multiple choice questions. It suggests doing all the easy stuff and coming back to harder questions and not wasting too much valuable time. There are test-taking tips on every page and while all of it is common sense and you've heard it before, it's nice to have a comprehensive reminder of how to do your very best on exam day. If you need to relearn material for the exam, you might prefer a guide more specific for what you require, but this is definitely an excellent guide to help prepare you for the MCAT.

2-0 out of 5 stars A clear lack of editing
The most apparent flaw of this review book is the disjointed and sometimes lacking editing. Disjointed in how the physics and chemistry sections have glossaries while the biology and organic chem sections do not, or how chemistry has fill in the blank review questions (instead of multiple choice, MCAT style questions), or how the physics questions range from trivially easy to requiring a calculator and heavy number crunching.

The typos are the most frustrating. It got to the point where I kept a list of the various typos and inaccurate information. They included mistakes in physics equations (forgetting a log in a rate constant equation) to outdated biological information (lactic acid was found not to be the cause to muscle fatigue). I think that most premeds will figure out the mistakes given a bit of time, but the extra effort and second guessing of material is never forgivable when alternatives exist.

Ultimately it isn't a worthless review book. It is priced more competitively than the Kaplan MCAT 2008-2009 Premier Program (w/ CD-ROM) (Kaplan Mcat Premier Program). The quality of the actual paper is better than some bargain basement review books. Just know ahead of time that you WILL see more mistakes than usual and you WILL need to invest in a separate MCAT practice test book (the practice test CD that comes with the book has a menu straight out of Windows 98 and the practice questions in the book do not reflect actual MCAT question style).

2-0 out of 5 stars Could Be Worse
First off, don't get this book if it's your sole source of Physics and Chemistry. It is not very comprehensive and is a bit off touch in those areas.
Secondly, this book has quite a few more errors than most books. Most annoyingly is it has about 200 unnecessary pages - after every 4-5 page chapter it has a 2-3 page review of the exact information. The questions at the end aren't really that great either.
However, Bio, Orgo and the CD aren't bad so it could be worse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best MCAT Prep guide I've come across
This is very definitely the most comprehensive, intelligent, detailed MCAT prep. book I've come across so far. I wasn't surprised to see that the publisher is one of the premier medical publisher (remember your McGraw Biology text books from college). Each chapter is complete in itself...you don't have to go hunting for better explanation on vaguely introduced topics; there was such an intelligent organization of topics that you can see that they put a lot of thoughtful planning into this. And the diagrams and tables...I kept gushing about how useful (and how many!) they were.
The topics are all current and up to date. Just compare the book at the bookstore to all other books, and you'll see for yourself. The book speaks for itself!
I've retired the book I was studying from (i.e. K....). My MCAT group discovered that there were hardly any changes from the older editions of this 'K.....' guide...in other words, it covers 1/10th the material that the McGraw covers, and is a poor tool to use for good preparation.
I give this book 5 stars; using it well and preparing thoroughly leaves very little doubt in my mind that I'll do less than well on the exam. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad all over
Take the last three reviews on this website seriously. This review is utterly terrible. If there was ever a book that warranted a toss to the dumpster, it was this one. The reviews are negligible, the tests are terrible, and the advice is bad! For example, it advises you to use textbooks to study and the electrochemistry review is literally a third of a page long with no formulas. Please don't buy this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time
Save you time and money and don't buy this book. I check it out from our local public library. Still it's a waste of my time to borrow it. This book got mistakes all over the place and the model tests are way easier than the real test.

1-0 out of 5 stars Plain awful.
It defies explanation how a book could be this bad.The material throughout much of the book has nothing to do with the actual exam, it's often wrong, and full of mistakes.Save your money!

1-0 out of 5 stars Save your money
This book is very, very out of date. Don't waste your time or your money. The exams also have a wierd different format. Invest in Exam krackers, Kaplan or Princeton.

3-0 out of 5 stars meh...
This book is ok - not wonderful. The review of sciences was pretty in-depth.There was way more information in it and more complicated information than what was on the real MCAT.The 4 sample examinations were not good - nothing like the real MCAT.Science passages had a different format from the real thing - more passages based on prior memorized information than on-the-spot critical reasoning. The verbal reasoning was much MUCH easier in this book than the real thing - very misleading. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Practice Test Confusion!
The information about the subjects may be adequate, but it does not explain it very thoroughly and the MCAT is about having a full understanding and being able to link concepts together. In addition, the tests have many mistakes! After having done a few passages, I started carefully picking through them after I had finished and found a few answers which directly contradicted the passages - these practice tests served only to confuse me.It feels as though no one proofed this book.Since then I've bought a book from Kaplan and Princeton and although they are a bit more expensive they have been used by many pre-meds with reliable results - and they don't have mistakes.

1-0 out of 5 stars Seriously?
I don't understand how this book could get anything but a "1 star" from anyone. The questions are downright wrong!I've only done a few of the passages and found numerous mistakes where the book outright contradicts itself. You don't have to be a genius to find the mistakes, I found them in the verbal section. This book needs to be tossed - do yourself a favor and spend a little more money buying Kaplan/Princeton or basically anything else.

4-0 out of 5 stars for those who love theory!
Hey, pre-meds! I had 4 weeks to concentrate on studying for the MCAt after my summer session last year. I have a great grasp of the concepts in the pre-med courses and just needed the STRATEGY of how to do well for the MCAt. This is THE book. If you really understood the stuff in your classes the first time around, this book gives an excellent review and supplements the stuff you didn't learn but need for the MCAT. All in all I did 1 week non-stop studying/section then a week of tests I went over with friends. With such intensive studying, I fared well [9v 11p 11b]. I know of one person who got a 37 using this alone to study! Good luck to all.

1-0 out of 5 stars Full of Errors!
I received the Columbia Review book as part of an MCAT course I'm taking. The book is out of print, but just in case anyone is thinking about special-ordering it, DON'T!

The book provides a decent overview of MCAT science, but the subject area practice tests that follow each section are full of errors. Some of the questions don't have a single "best" answer, while others don't seem to have any correct answers at all. I'm not talking about typographical errors; I'm talking about poorly written questions that do not reflect the level of difficulty of the real MCAT.

Preparing for the MCAT is hard enough. You don't need review materials that make it even harder. Use the Kaplan Comprehensive Review, and if you want more practice on a particular subject, try the MCAT Biology/Chemistry/Physics series from Nova Press.

1-0 out of 5 stars Makes a Good Doorstop
This book was a dissappointment. I found the chemistry and biology sections to be lacking in their explinations of concepts vital to the MCAT. The testing sections were full of mistakes, something I found to be quitefrustrating. How are you supposed to learn from an author who has troublewith the material? I would recommend Kaplan's Comprehensive Review, andsticking to the AAMC Practice Tests. Save yourself the frustration! Goodluck on test day. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not enough detail
The review material is really just the basics with not much explanation. The "MCAT TIPS" (margin notes) are helpful but not worth purchasing the book for them. The problem solutions are not detailed enough and I found the book lacking as a whole.I was looking for an in-depth review, but this (and the other books in this series) just gloss over the material.

Could definitely be better.Kaplan MCAT Advanced, however, is worth the money; the above average difficulty questions are good practice.

Unfortunately, I cannot give the subject-specific books a good review. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Immensely helpful
I was looking to improve my reading comprehension skills and this book helped a lot.
All the practice passages have detailed explanation about both right and wrong answers - which is very helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpfull - buy it
This is a very helpful book on Reading Section. One of the very few available ones on the market. I don't understand why there are so many books conserning LR and AR, and almost none conserning the reading. Reading was my most difficult section (as it is for many students- passages are long time is not enough, same problem..) and if there was more on the market about it I would have purchased it. Anyhow, this book is well written, explanatory, enough exercises.
The reason why I rate it with 4, not 5 stars is because it is not LSAT specific, but it also tells about MCAT, GMAT, etc. Which is important when it comes to the length of passages in the excercise section which takes up 130 out of 180 pages from the book. There are passages of different lengths from 30 to 80 lines, covering the formats of the passages given on GMAT, MCAT, etc. But what we need for LSAT - are passages of 55 - 60 lines so we can properly time ourselves and as we all know on the LSAT - TIME IS EVERYTHING.
In conclusion: helpful book - get it.
P.S. If the publishers get to see that - consider improving it.

4-0 out of 5 stars good book
I was preparing for GMAT and was very in Reading Comprehension. This book was helful to me especially the LSAT passages which were difficult compared to GMAT passages. explanations were good.

1-0 out of 5 stars Time-wasting if not skill-diminishing
I've read this book for LSAT prep. While the selection of passages is excellent, crafting of questions is simply a bad joke.To be precise, it is mostly the answer choices that makes this book time-wasting, if not skill-diminishing.The answer choices in this book are just not the kind of choices that appear in an actual test.Especially annoying is that many "right" answer choices can be right only after a very very long stretch of logic, which NEVER happens in a real test.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent study tool
This book helps the reader learn the correct way to annotate and outline the paragraphs on the reading comprehension section of the GRE*MCAT*LSAT*GMAT.It was very helpful. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Overall, a good purchase
I bought this book set to help me get through undergraduate premed work. I was taking organic this summer and thought it would be helpful to see as I learned the material how much of it would be on the MCATS. Its pretty much lived up to the expectations- beautiful pictures and nice explanations, and I haven't found any math errors that people were complainig about in previous editions. However, I did find that it isn't that helpful as a supplimental text to my class- there simply isn't enough detail and not enough practice questions. Overall, though, it was a good purchase and I think it will be very helpful when I start seriously studying for the MCATs ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Thank god I'm not the only one!!!
I worked through the 6 biological sections and found multiple mistakes.Eventhough my copy is from 96, they still haven't changed the test format in the 2000 revision. In fact all of the incorrect answers are still in the new book.

A few caveats; 1. the review sections aren't the worst.I read through them for a general level of understanding. For any in depth information refer to a textbook.2.The physical science section is difficult. However, if you can work through the tests it will help. 3. I bought my dated version for 10% of the listed cost and it is exactly the same as the 2000 version.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is not as good as it promises to be.
Although this book does have six full exams as promised, they are not in proper mcat format and do not match the difficulty level of the real exam. It is an O.K. book if you want to reinforce the basics, but your performance on these exams would be a poor indicator on how you would do on the actual test.

1-0 out of 5 stars what a waste
this is a really terrible book! The verbal section has only 7 passages. It really messes your timing up when you are really taking the test.Plus, the questions are a joke. The physical sciences and bio. sections are filled with errors, which required way too many calculations in a timed test. The mcat is about timing, strategy, and intelligence. This text fails at two out of these three criteria. The latter is due inheritance. And the editor claims that this text is up-to-date(Actual Publishing date is 1991).

1-0 out of 5 stars Way off the mark!
This book features six "mcat-like" exams that are anything but "mcat-like".This is especially true for the sciences, notably the physical science sections.Quite simply, the exams ask you to do waytoo much calculating (with numbers that are next to impossible to handlewithout a calculator) and the real tests aren't like that. You can't doall that math (which you won't have to on the real thing) and keep yourpace up.Don't bother with it. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Box o' fun
This should only be used to supplement other study tools. The best way I can think of describing it is saying it's like grabbing the respective text book in biology, orgo/gen chemistry, and physics and reading through the glossary. It is a box of really flimsy paper and a whole lot of basic terms/definitions you may or may not have forgotten.

5-0 out of 5 stars it's helping!!
Product came in good condition. Wish the shipment could have been tracked but it came before the approximate arrival time. And they're helping with my studies. Good buy - don't pass it up

4-0 out of 5 stars Portable MCAT Prep
I like this product because it's not so bulky, and a great way to travel and prep for the MCAT.A great review of facts but no substitution for real practice with problems.

4-0 out of 5 stars MCAT in a Box
The product was in awesome condition! The box isn't very heavy, so it's easy to take them with you just about anywhere and study on the go! To be honest when I ordered them I didn't really know what to expect. I've used a variety of other Kaplan study materials so I sort of just trusted that these cards would be very helpful. However, one thing that people looking at these cards should know before you buy them is that they do not have diagrams.

5-0 out of 5 stars MCAT PREP!
Thanks a lot! The item came in perfect condition, and is easily portable due to its small size. It has all the vocabulary needed to understand major and minor subjects of matter that are sure to show up in the exam! Haven't taken the test yet, but will hopefully take it soon with confidence after completing my prep with the flash cards provided by Kaplan :-) wish me well! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Quality Mcat Prep
to my surprise, this book is actually pretty good. The materials in the book are quite concise, too general, but the practice tests are excellent.Just the three practice tests alone are worth the price. The science review sections, however, could be more detailed. In addition, the author's high opinions of himself make this book somewhat annoying to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book rocks the house!
I used this book to prepare for the MCAT last summer (the 3rd ed).It was great. It had everything that was on the exam and no extra useless info. The practise exams were exactly like the real one. There were nosurprises, and I didn't feel like I had wasted time learning things Ididn't have to.The sections of the book are organized exactly like thelist of topics that the AAMC is allowed to test you on.There is anexcellent section at the end of the book which explains how to arrive atthe correct answer for each question in the practise exams, in case you gotthem wrong and don't understand why.The book explained the biological andphysical sciences very well- even if you had never taken science before, you could understand. The sections on organic chemistry were particularlyhelpful to me (I HATE orgo!). The book covered techniques for the writingsample and the verbal reasoning sections, and had other information aboutthe application procedure.I looked at a lot of other books for the MCAT,and I think that this one is the best.I also had the opportunity toattend a lecture of Dr. Ferdinand's (he teaches courses to prepare for theMCAT) and I found him to be a very intelligent and sincere person. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars A Mistake
I bought this book hoping it would help me for the LSAT, but I was disappointed. It is a little simplistic (although this could help a person get used to the games), but it's biggest flaw is the mistakes in the text. Throughout the exercises, there are msitakes. This drove me crazy when I was trying to solve the sample problems becasue I could never be sure if I just wasn't getting it, or if there was another mistake in the book.

2-0 out of 5 stars you are better off with out this for the LSAT
I don't know about the other tests but this book is useless for the LSAT.It is too easy and has too many mistakes!Simple things like replacing "could"with "must"in the answers mess up the whole outcome and this book makes those simple mistakes.I also understand the concept of choosing the lesser of the evils but this book takes it to the extreme!Answers for inference questions are things that really can't be implied any more than what they consider "wrong".The LSAT doesn't do that.So far i suggest getting the actual past tests and there are plenty of other prep book out there.I suppose you could use this book to boost you confidence, so i will give it stars for that.

1-0 out of 5 stars The worst logic prep book I ever had...
People should really avoid this book unless you have too much money, time and effort to waste.Aside from this book only provides limited strategies on cracking the logic questions, it has way way way too many bloodly obvious mistakes in it answer keys.It only does two things:confuses you--because you will never understand the inference process since the answers are wrong; or frustrates you--one MORE mistake is found!I eventually got so frustrated that I had to abandon using this book after getting through about 1/5 of the book.Strongly recommend avoiding using this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Too Many Errors in Answer Key ...
I would avoid this book simply because the answer keys have too many errors, thus making it difficult to gauge your success on the test questions.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible and error-filled
I looked at this book while preparing for the LSAT.

It deals only with very easy questions and even includes errors in the answer key and explanations. The logical reasoning section is quite horrendous, only introuding questions of mild complexity.

I would look elsewhere for a preparation book. ... Read more
