From the supplier: Results of a study indicate the existence of the paradox of the contented working woman among female administrators. This paradox states that job satisfaction in women with lower salaries is comparable to that of higher-paid men. The Job Descriptive Index was used to measure job satisfaction in 143 women administrators and 371 men administrators in 106 NCAA institutions. Previous research focused on marital and other relationships of NCAA administrators, but did not examine job satisfaction in middle and first-line administrators.

2-0 out of 5 stars Rich in data, poor in analysis
This book is an empirical critique of Puerto Rico's development program called Operation Bootstrap. The authors use abundant census data to depict the contradictory socioeconomic trends induced by the island's industrialdevelopment. Analytically, the authors straddle between a view of PuertoRico as a developing economy and as a regional economy of the UnitedStates. This ambiguity leaves the reader wondering whether the paradox isthe product of methodological inconsistencies or of the reality of PuertoRico as an unicorporated territory of the United States.

Product Description
Despite the rapid creation of jobs in the greater Atlantaregion, poverty in the city itself remains surprisingly high, andAtlanta's economic boom has yet a to play a significant role innarrowing the gap between the suburban rich and the city poor. Thisbook investigates the key factors underlying this paradox. The authorsshow that the legacy of past residential segregation as well as themore recent phenomenon of urban sprawl both work against inner cityblacks. The book also presents some promising signs. The emergence ofa dynamic, black middle class and the success of many black-ownedbusinesses in the area also give the authors reason to hope thatracial inequality will not remain entrenched in a city where so muchelse has changed. The Atlanta Paradox is essential reading for allthose concerned with economic and racial inequalities in America'scities and metropolitan areas. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars dense
This was not the book I expected it to be: I expected another history of Atlanta and of the bitter fruits of Atlanta's business-oriented politics. Instead I got a group of essays about the Atlanta labor market - not necessarily a bad thing, since Atlanta politics has already been discussed to death by other authors (I recommend, for example, the works of Clarence Stone and Larry Keating).Except for the first three or four essays, most of the essays in Atlanta Paradox are of interest only to labor economists.Having said that, some of the essays (especially the one on spatial mismatch) are fairly good.Others are flawed, primarily because they result on surveys of very small groups, and occasionally make conclusions about subgroups based on responses by 5 or 10 people - hardly an appropriate research technique. ...
