    Extractions: An American composer with a degree in engineering physics, Reynolds is a very eclectic and experimental artist whose work explores the boundaries of space, perception, and technology. Musically influenced by the American Experimentalists and the Second Viennese School, many of his works are built around texts dervied from mythology and postmodern literature, and his impressive catalog covers a wide range of musical territory from string quartets to multimedia productions involving computers, video, dance and theater. Among numerous other awards and commissions, he won the 1989 Pulitzer Prize for his Whispers Out of Time for string orchestra. Watershed , a "pathbreaking exploration of the new DVD medium," was released by Mode Records in January of 1999 and features his music. He is currently professor of music at the University of California at San Diego.

    Extractions: E n el número 25 (septiembre-octubre de 1996) de Proa se publicó mi artículo "Borges y Arlt: las paralelas que se tocan". Es pertinente reproducir estos tres párrafos: No sabemos si Arlt llegó a leer la Historia universal de la infamia y El jardín de senderos que se bifurcan. Sin embargo, puesto que buena parte de aquélla fue previamente publicada en el diario Crítica (donde también trabajó Arlt), es razonable inferir que éste haya leído esos relatos. De ser así, ignoramos también qué opinión le merecieron a Arlt los trabajos de Borges. No obstante, me atrevo a suponer que los rechazaría o los despreciaría, en cierto modo por "incomprensibles" para su concepto de lo que debía ser la literatura. Ahora bien, esto no habla ni en contra ni en favor de Arlt: la complejísima trama de las aceptaciones y los rechazos recíprocos y potenciadamente entrelazados de obras y de autores desborda de afinidades insospechadas y de aborrecimientos inimaginables. Sí, en cambio, la lectura de todas las obras de Arlt nos indica, con total claridad, que la influencia ejercida por Borges sobre aquél es absolutamente nula.

    Extractions: In the 1998 Idle Mist film, the dream world and the "phenomenal" world of the dreamer converge, revealing "the secret drama" of existence, questioning the audience's perception of reality, as one of the "diverse intonations of a few metaphors," the history of this metaphors which constitute, according to Borges, universal history. This metaphor, of all waking being a dream, Useche intuited and developed on his early Vana Espuma work and later rediscovered in Shakespeare, The One Thousand and One Nights and all his other aforementioned favorites. Borges also found it in the Moslem Koran, the Jewish Genesis, the Cabalist Sepher Yetzirah Like in Shakespeare's Tempest , and "The Circular Ruins" by Borges, the characters of Idle Mist find they are "of the stuff that dreams are made of" and true to the name of Useche's production company: Paradox Arts, the work is both circular and open-ended. It also attests to the reversibility of the creative process but not as much as his subsequent feature film Waking Shadows in which an echo of Jung's theory of the unconscious and archetypes seems to represent the true driving force behind our actions and perceptions in the material world.

Viajó a Europa en 1914 con su familia y se instaló en Ginebra donde cursó el bachillerato. Pasó en 1919 a España y allí entró en contacto con el movimiento ultraísta. En 1955 se incorpora a la Academia Argentina de Letras y es nombrado director de la Biblioteca Nacional, cargo que ocupa hasta su retiro en 1973. En 1956 obtuvo el Premio Nacional de Literatura. Fue también profesor de literatura inglesa en la Universidad de Buenos Aires. Dentro de su vasta producción narrativa cabe citar El Aleph, Historia universal de la infamia, El informe de Brodie y El libro de arena, los ensayos como Discusión, Otras inquisiciones, y los libros de poemas, hasta Los conjurados, publicados en 1985. El Premio Formentor otorgado en 1961 por el Congreso Internacional de Editores (compartido con Samuel Beckett) le valió el reconocimiento internacional.
