Policy Update: Missouri: A Fragile Deal - Quality Counts '99 The law also authorizes k12 charter schools in kansas City and St.Louis. The publicly funded but largely independent schools can http://www.edweek.org/sreports/qc99/states/policy/mo-up.htm
Extractions: (all revenue sources) assage of legislation designed to keep the Kansas City and St. Louis public schools from going broke if state desegregation funding ends this year was Missouri lawmakers' main accomplishment in education policy in 1998. In other action, the legislators also put in place a system to pay for early-childhood education and enacted provisions to make higher education more affordable. Missouri lawmakers focus on school funding changes in Kansas City and St. Louis. The new desegregation law, described as "miracle" legislation by some, redistributes state aid, allocating an estimated $28 million a year for the Kansas City schools, $45 million for the St. Louis schools, and $37 million for 504 other districts across the state. The law also calls for an increase in local taxes in St. Louis to raise an additional $21 million a year. The funding changes will offset most, but not all, of the state desegregation funding that the Kansas City and St. Louis systems currently receive. The legislation sets a March 15 deadline for settlements releasing the state from further desegregation spending.

This list attempts to be an answer, but comes with many caveats. First and foremost, schools are listed here by either their own or parent recommendations - this listing is in no way a recommendation for any specific school for a specific student. Some of these schools are public, some are private. Some test very strictly for gifted or highly gifted students; others are very specialized in their academics, and therefore draw such students without testing explicitly for the gifted. That said, at least this list is a beginning, a list of a few schools where at least some of our children can find a stimulating education, among other children like themselves. Also see our list of Early Entrance College Programs , programs specifically designed for the younger student ready for college level course work. And, don't miss this list of U.S. schools that specialize in LD students, often working well with gifted / LD students... LD Resources K-12 Schools with LD Programs, USA

( NetVision is an informal organization of people from a variety of groups, including UMCP, MSDE, MSTA, BTU, and various Maryland schools. They all share an interest in facilitating the effective curricular use by teachers of the equipment and connections installed in Maryland schools on NetWeekend The collections of Web sites below were put together by various individual K-12 teachers (and, in one case, a committee) for use in workshops or special programs. We all owe a special debt of gratitude to these people, and to all the others who freely share what they have found in the way of tools for teaching. Please be aware that any errors you may find in this list are more than likely attributable to NetVision 's editing not the individual authors.
