The Temple Mount was probably built by Egyptian Tothmosis III, in or about 1468 B.C. The word David in Hebrew is written DWD which means Toth in Egyptian. He was the conqueror of Palestine and David is probably loosely based on this character.

Supporting Germany during the First World War, the Turks were defeated and in 1916 the southern portion of control was mandated to Britain and France - Lebanon and Syria going to France, with Palestine (the areas known today as Israel, Jordan, and the West Bank) controlled by the British. Jews had begun mass immigration to Palestine during the 1880's and slowly started changing the very landscape from malarial swamps and dry desserts to farmable land. Most widely known was the 1936-39 "Arab Revolt", where attacks on Jews continued mercilessly. The British, who once protected the Jews and Arabs from each other, soon began ignoring the situation after many of their own died getting in between Arabs and Jews. The Jews began pouring more and more resources into their own defensive force called the Hagana, which eventually became the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).

Saleh emphasised that prior to the creation of Israel, the area's Arab majority lived harmoniously with Jewish and Christian minorities. In 1947, the problem passed to the UN, whose division of the country was unacceptable to the Palestinians. The largely unarmed Palestinian population was defeated in the resulting civil war and hundreds of thousands became refugees. Saleh himself was born after his mother fled to Jordan; his father, a guerilla fighter who had stayed to defend his land, was killed shortly before his birth. Israel's domination of the area further extended with the 1967 occupation of large areas of neighbouring Palestine, Egypt and Syria, including the West Bank and Gaza.

On Friday afternoon, from Tel Aviv, came the expected announcement of the Jewish State and its official naming at birth, "Medinat Yisrael" - State of Israel, with the swearing in of the first Council of Government. The proclamation of the State was made at midnight, coinciding with the sailing from Haifa of Britain's last High Commissioner. Within the hour, President Truman announced in Washington that the Government of the United States had decided to give de facto recognition to the Jewish State, with all that such recognition implied. The Assembly of the United Nations, meeting since the middle of April for "further study" of the Palestine problem was thus left, by one means or another, to ratify the Two-States decision of November last year, or dissolve with nothing concrete to its credit. The Assembly adjourned with the resolution to appoint a mediator between the Jew and Arabs, to cooperate with the Security Council's Truce Commission in Jerusalem.
