Product Description
Abbott and Costello William (Bud) Abbott and Lou Costello (born Louis Francis Cristillo) were an American comedy duo whose work in radio, film and television made them one of the most popular teams in the history of comedy. Thanks to the endurance of their most popular and influential routine, "Who's on First?"---whose rapid-fire word play and comprehension confusion set the preponderant framework for most of their best-known routines---the team are also the only comedians known to have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. The Abbott and Costello Show mixed comedy with musical interludes (usually, by singers such as Connie Haines, Marilyn Maxwell, the Delta Rhythm Boys, Skinnay Ennis, and the Les Baxter Singers). Regulars and semi-regulars on the show included Artie Auerbrook, Elvia Allman, Iris Adrian, Mel Blanc, Wally Brown, Sharon Douglas, Verna Felton, Sidney Fields, Frank Nelson, Martha Wentworth, and Benay Venuta. Ken Niles was the show's longtime announcer, doubling as an exasperated foil to Abbott & Costello's mishaps (and often fuming in character as Costello insulted his on-air wife routinely); he was succeeded by Michael Roy, with annoncing chores also handled over the years by Frank Bingman and Jim Doyle. ... Product Description
New Jersey boys and burlesque buddies Bud Abbott and Lou Costello are entertainment legends. True fans know that these stars of vaudeville, movies and television also had their own successful and long-running radio program.

Their vaudeville style was well in evidence on the air, complete with wild wordplay and their quick and clever covering up of flubbed lines. Laugh along and enjoy the power of patter as demonstrated here in 10 of the team's digitally restored and remastered radio performances.

Since all comics need a good set up to deliver a joke that really pays off, Abbott & Costello brought in some of the best supporting characters in the business, including Mel Blanc, Elvia Allman, Iris Adrian, Artie Mr. Kitzel Auerbach, and burlesque compatriot Sid Fields - all of whom can be heard in this set. Whether the gag is about dancing lessons, movie parodies, odd jobs, or other nonsense - it's all confusion, all commotion, and all funny!

Includes their classic Who's On First routine, and a Program Guide by Derek Tague with photographs and background information about these great entertainers.

Episodes Include: It's Time to Smile: Six Lessons from Madame LaZonga 07-31-40; The Abbott & Costello Show: Investment Advice 10-05-44, Merchant Marines 01-25-45, Lou Discovers Uranium 03-07-46, Ha-LOU-cinating 10-10-46, Marriage Bureau 04-21-48, Sam Shovel: At the Races 02-17-49, Sam Shovel: 100 Steps to Take When You Come Face to Face With a Killer 02-24-49, Who's on First (Excerpt) 04-17-47; The Bill Stern Colgate Sports Newsreel: Guests: Abbott & Costello 01-04-46 ... Excerpt: Bride of Frankenstein (advertised as The Bride of Frankenstein) is a 1935 American horror film, the first sequel to the influential Frankenstein (1931). Bride of Frankenstein was directed by James Whale and stars Boris Karloff as The Monster, Elsa Lanchester in the dual role of his mate and Mary Shelley, Colin Clive as Henry Frankenstein and Ernest Thesiger as Doctor Septimus Pretorius. The film follows on immediately from the events of the first film, and is rooted in a subplot of the original novel, Frankenstein (1818). In the film, a chastened Henry Frankenstein abandons his plans to create life, only to be tempted and finally coerced by the Monster, encouraged by Henry's old mentor Dr Pretorius, into constructing a mate for him. Preparation began shortly after the first film premiered, but script problems delayed the project. Principal photography started in January 1935, with creative personnel from the original returning in front of and behind the camera. Bride of Frankenstein was released to critical and popular acclaim, although it encountered difficulties with some state and national censorship boards. Since its release the film's reputation has grown, and it is hailed as Whale's masterpiece. Modern film scholars, noting Whale's homosexuality and that of others involved in the production, have found a gay sensibility in the film, although a number of Whale's associates have dismissed the idea. 5-0 out of 5 stars WHO'S Plus Feller, Too
I've been listening to this Cassette for over 20 years. It not only ends with their Classic, "Who's on First," (Plius a, 'Get Well," wish for Joe DiMaggio) plus the same type of banter about Enos Slaughter and Bob Feller. Marilyn Maxwell sings, "Do You
Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans."

Of the three different cassetts of this Gold Record routine, THIS one is the Best. To me, it even surpasses the one from the Hall of Fame.
