5-0 out of 5 stars Well researched and concise
Mr. Sartorius has produced a concise and easy to read book. He has made a reasonable attempt to categorise the lenses in a logical and well-illstrated manner. The book largely succeeds at the difficult task ofcovering the myriad variations of Leica lenses, especially the screw-mountand early M-mount lenses. There is a rarity grading system and best of all,the lens diagrams of the featured lenses are provided. I recommend thisbook heartily to beginners and keen Leicaphiles alike. What you get is anexcellent reference for the price. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars ok for a beginning reader but definite drawbacks
A fair amount of excitement for the begginning reader, but the main character is really stuck up. Also, lots of stereotypical stuff.

I recommend the Secret of Droon series. Made for same age bracket, but more interesting, better written.

5-0 out of 5 stars Adam Sharp is so cool!

5-0 out of 5 stars adam sharp - a 7th grade review
hey ,

I liked this book. I am turning thirteen in four days too. I know this book is for second and third graders mostly but they're good. I was wondering if i could get an email adress or a website name for the author.Anyhow, this was a good book. I liked it-except maybe for the fact that adam never leaves his tux and patent leather shoes.

Product Description
The majority of books written on making sausages do not tackle the subject of fermented sausages at all. The topic is limited to a statement that this is an advanced field of sausage making which is not recommended for an amateur sausage maker. Well, the main reason for writing this book was that the authors did not share this opinion. On the contrary, they believed that any hobbyist could make wonderful salami at home, if he only knew how. Highly technical papers were published in Food Technology journals which unfortunately were written in very difficult terms. Thus the idea of bridging the technology gap that existed between Meat Science and the requirements of the typical hobbyist was born. With more information obtainable every day, and commercial starter cultures available to the public, there is little reason to abstain from making quality salamis at home, regardless of the climate and outside conditions. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Make fermented and smoked sausages at Home
Preparing a good sausage at home is like repairing your own crashed computer -- a task best left for the expert. Yet the authors of this book hoped to persuade interested readers to make their own sausages in their home kitchen.

This is a highly technical book most suitable for food scientists, though the writing is good and easy to understand. It starts with discussion of fermented, cured, dried and salted meats and sausages, reviewing their history; then proceeds systematically through fermentation, smoking, ingredients, safety and equipment. The fifty-one recipes comprise sausages from international traditions, mainly from Europe, but some from Asian sausage makers.

Only the most dedicated home cook would attempt these recipes; the required equipment and many hard-to-obtain ingredients would discourage most of us. Fermented and smoked sausages are also time-consuming to prepare.

The book sorely lacks good editing and errors in the text are not uncommon. Layout could also be much improved by a professional.

The recipes lack page references to less-known ingredients, and some of these are missing from the index. Monochrome illustrations are only fair. Index is inadequate.

5-0 out of 5 stars Serious Info for Serious Sausage Makers
This is a book about the hows and whys of fermented and smoked sausage making. If you are interested in understanding the process then this is the book for you - there is nothing else that even comes close. It will not only allow you to make your own copies of those wonderful sausages you've seen hanging in that little ethnic store on the corner, but will give you the means to create your own variations. If you are the type that likes to know the details then you will love this book.If you are just looking for a recipe book then you will probably be disappointed - there are a few here, but this is more a book about understanding the process. Just what I was looking for.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Art of Making Fermented Sausages
This book is not designed for the beginner sausage maker, which is also prefaced in the book. As a sausage maker myself, I found this book to have very good information for most meat processors. Dry and semi dry sausage making is one of the most difficult, however with this book, you'll understand all the practices in which to make an authentic, old world, finished fermented sausage.

4-0 out of 5 stars Making Salami
This book is excellent if not a bit repetitive about the science involved in the processing of meat for salami. It gave me much more information than I have been able to find on the internet and would recommend it to anyone who is about to undertake the project. It is a must!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
The book is great.Very technical, yet understandable in plain English. Not sure how soon I will be fermenting sausage but I am sure this book will make it possible.Living in Hawaii has it's drawbacks as far as sausage making goes because the temperature rarely drops below 65 degrees Fahrenheit.(If you could call that a draw back---Sorry to my family in Minnesota)This book provided the information I needed to build a controlled fermenting chamber, something I needed in order to master the art of fermented sausage in Hawaii.I would recommend this book to anyone who is really serious and wants to become a master sausage maker.Aloha! ...
