Excerpt: William Lewis "Bill" Jenkins (born November 29, 1936) is a politician from the state of Tennessee. He has represented the state's 1st Congressional district, centered around the Tri-Cities (map), from 1997 until his successor was sworn in on January 3, 2007. Jenkins was born in Detroit, Michigan to parents from Rogersville, Tennessee. He is a seventh-generation Tennessean. He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1960, and graduated from Tennessee Technological University and the University of Tennessee College of Law. Jenkins was elected to the Tennessee General Assembly as a Republican in 1962 and he served as Speaker of the House from 1969 to 1971--as of 2008, the only Republican to hold that position since Reconstruction. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for Governor of Tennessee in 1970, was a Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Conservation, serving in the Cabinet of Winfield Dunn, and according to his website biography, he was a senior policy advisor on energy and legislative issues for Governor Lamar Alexander. Jenkins was the only Republican to serve as Speaker of the Tennessee House in the 20th century. He was also one of the youngest persons to ever hold the office. Jenkins served on the board of directors of the Tennessee Valley Authority from 1971 to 1978, and he was a circuit court judge for Tennessee's Third Judicial District from 1990 to 1996. On May 10, 1996, he resigned his judgeship to run for the House of Representatives from the First Congressional District after 17-term incumbent Jimmy Quillen announced his retire...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=961037 ... Excerpt: Populations in: Other: Kumauni or Kumaoni () are people from Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, India. They include all those who speak the Kumaoni language or any of its numerous dialects, living in the Almora, Bageshwar, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts of Uttarakhand, India. Significant populations of Kumauni people exist in Uttar Pradesh especially Lucknow; Assam; Bihar; Delhi; Madhya Pradesh; Maharashtra and Punjab, some regions of Himachal Pradesh. There is evidence that the hills of Kumaon have been inhabited by mankind for a millennia, and the people of Kumaon today are the descendants of different waves of migration to these hills which took place over centuries. The Armed Forces and the Central Police Organisations have been the major source of employment for the people of Kumaon. The nineteen battalions of the Kumaon Regiment clearly reflects the participation of Kumaoni people in defending the frontiers of India. The word "Kumaon" can be traced back to the 5th century BC. The Kassite Assyrians left their homeland 'Kummah', on the banks of river Euphrates, and settled in the northern part of India. These inhabitants formed Koliyan tribe and having their new settlement as Kumaoon. Lord Buddha's mother, Mayabati belonged to this clan. Although this theory does not seem true considering the fact the distance between these two places is ab...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=22531422 ... Read more

Excerpt: Edward Irving "Ed" Koch (born December 12, 1924; pronounced ) is an American lawyer, politician, and political commentator who was a United States Congressman from 1969 to 1977, and a three-term Mayor of New York City, from 1978 to 1989. He also gained popular notoriety as Judge on The People's Court from 1997 to 1999. He enlisted into the United States Army in 1943 where he served as an infantryman with the 104th Infantry Division, landing in Cherbourg, France in September 1944. He earned two Battle Stars as a Combat Infantryman. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1946. Koch was the Democratic U.S. Representative from New York's 17th congressional district from January 3, 1969 until January 3, 1973, when after a redistricting he represented New York's 18th congressional district until December 31, 1977, when he resigned to become Mayor of New York City. Koch has said he began his political career as "just a plain liberal," with positions including opposing the Vietnam War and marching in the South for civil rights. He has traced the beginning of his rightward shift towards being a "liberal with sanity" to the controversy in 1973 around then-New York City Mayor John Lindsay's attempt to place a 3,000-person housing project in the middle of a middle-class community in Forest Hills, Queens. Congressman Koch met...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=246297 ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Home Country Cookbook around!
The book was a perfect gift for a women who has everything and loves cookbooks! It is unique and fun, and FULL of wonderful food!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great source of North Carolina recipes
Having been the state's Commissioner of Agriculture for 36 years, Jim Graham knows more about North Carolina food than anyone else. During these past 36 years the state has moved from a land of small family farms to one dominated by industrial and technologically advanced cities. This gave Mr. Graham the idea of publishing a book of recipes of the cherished country cooking from the state's past for the NC urban dwellers of today.

The recipes were gathered from all over the state by NC Cooperative Extension and the NC Farm Bureau as a tribute to this great man and his contribution to the rural residents of North Carolina. The true authors are the residents of the state who submitted their favorite recipes. Jim Graham wrote the Introduction and submitted one recipe to the anthology, his mom's Brunswick Stew. Many of the entries include notes by the contributors that give them a truly personal touch. Proceeds from the book's sales go to the James A. Graham Scholars Endowment at N.C. State University.

If you have one North Carolina cookbook in your kitchen, this should be it. Now that the small towns of the state are hosts to fast food restaurants, and rural citizens spend hours commuting to city jobs, this book will long preserve a fading heritage for future generations. It is a labor of love to be cherished by anyone who loves North Carolina foods. ... Read more

Oxendine (born April 30, 1962) is an American politician currently serving his fourth term as Insurance Commissioner of the U.S. state of Georgia. Oxendine is of Lumbee heritage, an Indian tribe from North Carolina. A member of the Republican party, he was first elected commissioner in 1994 and was reelected in 1998, 2002, and 2006. Prior to entering politics, Oxendine owned and operated a small business and was a bar-certified lawyer practicing in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Since July 2008, Oxendine has been the GOP front runner in the race for Governor of Georgia in 2010 to succeed the term-limited Sonny Perdue. Oxendine began his career working on several gubernatorial campaigns and was later appointed by Governor Joe Frank Harris to the State Personnel Board. John Oxendine is the son of Judge James W. Oxendine and Louise Oxendine and has two sisters. He grew up in Tucker, Georgia, where he was a Tucker Tiger and graduated from Tucker High School in 1980. Oxendine attributes his keen interest in politics to his father who has been a Senior Superior Court Judge in Gwinnett County since Oxendine was in school. Oxendine was active in scholastic activities all four years at Tucker High School and regularly went hunting, a tradition that he continues today with his children. He triple majored in Christianity, Greek, and political science at Mercer University, earning his Bachelor of Arts with honors in 1984. During college he worked at the Georgia State Capitol to pay for his tuition as a student assistant to Governor George Busbee. Oxendine attended Walter F.
