Excerpt: Hurricane Lili was the deadliest and costliest hurricane of the 2002 Atlantic hurricane season for the United States. Lili was the twelfth named storm, fourth hurricane, and second major hurricane of the 2002 Atlantic hurricane season. The storm developed from a tropical disturbance in the open Atlantic on September 21. It continued westward, affecting the Lesser Antilles as a tropical storm, then entered the Caribbean Sea. As it moved west, the storm dissipated while being affected by wind shear south of Cuba, and regenerated when the vertical wind shear weakened. It turned to the northwest and strengthened up to category 2 strength on October 1. Lili made two landfalls in western Cuba later that day, and then entered the Gulf of Mexico. The hurricane rapidly strengthened on October 2, reaching Category 4 strength that afternoon. It weakened rapidly thereafter, and hit Louisiana as a Category 1 hurricane on October 3. It moved inland and dissipated on October 6. Lili caused extensive damage through the Caribbean, particularly to crops and poorly built homes. Mudslides were common on the more mountainous islands, particularly Haiti and Jamaica. In the United States, the storm cut off the production of oil within the Gulf of Mexico, and caused severe damage in parts of Louisiana. Lili was also responsible for severe damage to the barrier islands and marshes in the southern portion of the state. Total damage amounted to $882 million (2002 USD; $1.15 billion 2007 USD), and the storm killed 15 peop...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=98896 ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Never received book
I ordered the book and was advised that I would receive in about 3 weeks.About a weekand a half later, received email that the order was cancelled.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have!
This book is essential for any vocalist who is studying voice in a foreign language, in particular. The info in this book is good, and since I wanted to have a copy, I decided to buy it used. This was the best deal out there, but a little pricey for all the notes that are in the book, some of which are incorrect. Overall, a great buy, tho.

4-0 out of 5 stars Diction for Singers
This is an excellent reference for diction for the six european languages which it covers. For full coverage of the subject there is a referenced volume of International Phonetic Alphabet drills and exercises.

2-0 out of 5 stars So full of mistakes it's more trouble than it's worth..
As much as I would like to recommend what SHOULD be quite a good diction book, I really cannot. While it manages to deal with 6 languages in a fairly clear and easy to reference manner, it simply fails to be consistent or accurate in the examples and organization.I know it is a very popular book for college diction course, but even brilliant lecturers are often throw off their game by printing errors or poor examples.I have yet to find a truly satisfactory book that deals with multiple languages cleanly enough to recommend, but "Diction - Italian, Latin, French, German...the Sounds and 81 Exercises for Singing Them"
by John Moriarty is a fairly good jumping off place.I prefer "Singing in French: A Manual of French Diction and French Vocal Repertoire" by Thomas Grubb for French as it really needs it's own book to provide enough information.I applaud Ms. Wall for her other publications and truly believe her to be quite a good pedagogue and technician, but this book really deserves a MAJOR re-write and update before any reprinting should be allowed. At least it's not terribly expensive!

5-0 out of 5 stars The singers Bible
"Diction for Singers" is a book that every voice major should have in their home libraries. ... Read more

Product Description
Finally, a book of hope for singles of all ages, but particularly those late-blooming Baby Boomers. Celebrating Single gives readers a look at the sometimes painful, sometimes joyful truths about love. Packed with powerful personal stories of real Baby Boomers (single men and women 35 to 53 years old), this inspiring book teaches you how to nurture and forgive yourself, and achieve the most enduring relationship of a lifetime - the love of self. The book is a blend of real-life stories with the advice of relationship experts who have helped many single people untangle the knots of confusion, loneliness, self-doubt and anger. The authors, two single Baby Boomers themselves, also sprinkle in their own personal insights and experiences. Celebrating Single shows singles how to find inner peace and love, and thrive on time spent alone. As Oscar Wilde once said, "to love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance." This book goes where few others have dared--it tells you how to live alone, and like it; to move on from dependence on romance, to dependence on self. And if and when you find love, it will be stronger because it is not based on need. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars It's so helpful...
While the authors say this book is geared toward baby-boomers, as a 31 year old recently single woman, I still found it incredibly helpful. It takes the drama out of break-ups, and is a great reminder that life is about more than one's romantic partner. Very educational and comforting!

3-0 out of 5 stars Celebrating Single and Getting Love Right
Joan and Marc wrote on an interesting subject in a different sort of style -- stories mixed with poetry.I'm married and I enjoyed reading this book!I shook my head at stories that could have been my own, as well as remember the joy of realizing love.

5-0 out of 5 stars A New Dawn
Inspirational, guiding and at times comforting.A bedside companion...a new found friend...a cat without the fur.

5-0 out of 5 stars Joan and Marc Got It Right!
Among the plethora of self-help books on fixing a broken romance, Celebrating Single stands out as a relevant, brilliant, humorous, down-to-earth approach to improving one's self-esteem by finding the right mate, rather than settling for a dysfunctional relationship to avoid loneliness. It is a definite must-read for any adult. And it is highly readable. Joan and Marc's friendly, conversational styles--interspersed with testimonies from "real people" and poignant poetry--make this book an entertaining and riveting read. I look forward to seeing Celebrating Single on Oprah's Booklist some day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Jim Logie
Wow! What a great book! I read it in a flash. It flows beautifully and the stories and poems are interesting and helpful. It even had some good suggestions for an old guy like me. I liked the conversational style with just the right amount of humor and kidding back and forth between the two authors. Their unusual writeing style was very effective and added to the enjoyment of the book. After reading the book Joan & Marc seem like my close friends. ... Read more

Product Description
Son of a free-thinking radical who had known Tom Paine, Walt Whitman reflects in both his life and his poetry all the turbulence of the mi-nineteen century.Perhaps the first gerat and thoroughly American poet, the self-educated printer, editor, itinerant teacher and Civial War nurse, an ardent admirer of Emerson, embraced transcendentalism and celebrated the democratic equality of all individuals.

Performed by various artists including, Joan Allen, Roscoe Lee Browne, Jill eikenberry, Bill Pullman, Roger Rees, Burt Reynolds, D. B. Sweeney, Blair Underwood, William Windom and Efrem Zimbalist, Jr.Amazon.com Review
When Walt Whitman blasted onto the literary scene in themid-19th century, he offered a fresh dose of potent prose that wasoriginal in form and structure, and above all, utterly American. Theself-educated printer, journalist, editor, and publisher wrote aboutcommon things and ordinary people--bus drivers and ferrymen, rivercrossings and taverns--subjects that defined the Americanexperience. In this recording, Burt Reynolds--who is fast becoming afixture on the audiobook narrator scene--joins Bill Pullman,D.B. Sweeney, Joan Allen, and others to celebrate this first greatall-American poet. Poems include "One's Self I Sing," selections from"When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom'd" and "I Sing the BodyElectric," and a generous sampling from "Song of Myself."
