5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT AUDIO BOOK
Our family listened to this whole series while driving many hours and days in the car.We really, really enjoyed it.I love history and enjoyed that part of it.It's true that there are many subplots but you soon get them all straight!I'd reccomend the audiobooks for those who are homebound or traveling.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great historical fiction
I love to read historical fiction so that I can be entertained while I learn. This book helped me accomplish just that!Although the writing didn't absolutely captivate me, I was able to put it down and forget to pick it up again until the next day, I did enjoy it.I think I felt this way because it is packed with so much historical information that the characters aren't as well developed as I like.Towards the end of the book though, the writting really picked up and I became hooked! As I read the last page of the book, I noticed that I might be at the end and found myself saying, "Please don't be over, please don't be over!"Unfortunately, when I turned the page, I found it was the end of the book.I immediately went online to order Volumn 2!

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Historical Fiction
This book chronicles the lives of the Birmingham Family on the eve of the Civil War. The family is split with one brother and his family living in Boston and the other brother and his family living in South Carolina. The southern family has a son who is decidedly abolitionist and has been disowned by his parents.

This book is an easy read, but has many characters and subplots going at one time. The author includes actual historical figures in the book to help recreate the atmosphere in the United States during this difficult period. I recommend this book for anyone with an interest in American History with the caution to remember that this is still just fiction.

5-0 out of 5 stars you've got to check this one out
This book was very well researched and written. I started reading it three days ago and could not put it down. After finishing it in 3 days I find myself very eager for Volume 2.
I strongly recomend this book to anyone with any remote interest in the civil war. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Mysterious Adventure
I loved this book - mostly because I love back in time stories. A young doctor, Amber Saxton is hit on the head by a swinging door, and she wakes up, in the middle of a hospital located at a Civil War battlefield. Also an accountant, Tyler Montgomery is knocked on the head with the butt of a shotgun and comes to in a tiny room adjacent to the army hospital where Amber is trying to adjust to her new world. There is plenty of adventure, romance and mystery in this book. It kept me turning pages until I knew if they would pass the test and return to their prior lives.

4-0 out of 5 stars Intriguing LDS romance
I enjoyed this book, which is saying a lot because I don't particularly enjoy the genre this book is placed in (LDS romance).I thought Nancy Allen did a great job balancing her research and the fiction aspects in this story. It didn't have the typical cheesy lines (that most LDS fiction tends to over flow with) and I appreciate that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Quick Read !

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Adventure Back in Time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I bought this book for my 2 year old at that time and he loves it. It's a great way to teach your kids some manner though the power of books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple and easy read on an important topic with any child!
This precious little piece about a porker points out both the good and the bad. It is an absolutely fun read and the illustrations are terrific! Ann Clarke, children's book author of People Are So Different! based on tolerance and understanding.

I really liked This Little Piggy's book of Manners.I teach Kindergarten and it was a great introduction to manners and etiquette without beating them over the head with it.The rhymes were great and easy enough for the kids to remember. We also loved the vibrant and colorful illustrations of Nancy Wolf. The situations in the book gave way to much discussion about how we are to act if we expect to have good manners. My personal favorite picture is of the little piggy eating lunch. We liked the phrase Utterly disgusting. We were pleased with the little piggies.

5-0 out of 5 stars very cute!
When you think of manners, usually the last thing that you think about is pigs. You get a notion in your mind of a pig rolling around in the mud or digging its snout into the slop and making a mess.I think, though, that the choice of pigs to demonstrate good (and bad!) manners in this book was a perfect choice.Children, including mine, are naturally drawn to pigs, which I believe is the reason for the popularity of Charlotte's Web and Babe.Just seeing a picture of pig dressed up as a teacher on the front of the book was enough to take this book off the shelf and put into our library bag.

My family and I really enjoyed that the author looked at both good and bad manners. The human mind often needs to see a positive and negative connotation to truly grasp an idea.It also gives the parent an opportunity to discuss why something is considered "good manners" and what can be improved in the situations where "bad manners" are exhibited. The author covers a good deal of the "manners" that parents try to instill in their children, but in a fun way for the whole family!

To top things off, the illustrations in this book are wonderful! They tease the imagination to see animals playing human roles. Also, the emotions of the animals seemed to be expressed through the style and colors of the background and the writing on the pages. Then, of course, are the subtle things on each page that entice you to spend time carefully looking at each page.On every page there are small things that are sometimes overlooked at first, but quite enjoyable when found! The use of colored newspaper pieces in the background as everyday objects was ingenious and added so much appeal to the book. This book is a work of art that is useful in teaching manners! ... Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Nancy Anne Allen (born June 24, 1950) is an American actress. Allen began an acting and modelling career as a child, and from the mid-1970s appeared in small film roles. A strong supporting role in Carrie (1976) brought her recognition, and after marrying the director Brian De Palma, she appeared in several of his films, including Dressed to Kill (1980), for which she received a Golden Globe nomination, and Blow Out (1981). Her subsequent films include The Philadelphia Experiment (1984) and the RoboCop trilogy. She was born in New York City, New York, the youngest of three children of Eugene and Florence Allen. Her father was a police lieutenant in Yonkers, where she was raised. Allen was terribly shy as a child, so her mother enrolled her in dance classes at age 4. She attended the High School of Performing Arts, where she trained for a dancing career, and then attended Jose Quintano's School for Young Professionals. ... Read more
