Product Description
Deeply moving and displaying acute sensitivity to the tormoil of human existence, Pedro Almodovar has created his most mature work yet. The film centers around a woman who is brought to the abyss of her own loneliness and despair, yet is bursting with energy and vibrancy through the filmmaker's distinctive use of primary colors. 25 photos. ... Product Description
For the legions of Paper Magazine fans, and anyone who's interested in Where Style Starts. This stunning portrayal of the last 20 years is a wonderful commemorative look at the life and times of the era. Following introductions and commentary by a virtual who's who of popular culture, 20 Years of Style charts just how style has evolved over the past twenty years, illustrating the huge influence that underground cultures from the worlds of art, music, film, sports and urban street life ultimately have played on mainstream fashion. Laid out by year starting in 1984 and continuing through the present, this star-studded journey cannot be described by words alone.

Adding to this visual feast are essays and commentary from Paper Magazine founders and co-editors Kim Hasreiter and David Hershkovits, as well as celebratory tributes to Paper Magazine from dejay and musicologist Moby; rap icon Fab 5 Freddy; artist/designer Todd Oldham; and style historian Harold Koda. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I LOVE PAPER.
I buy this magazine as soon as it comes out. It's fun to read, stylish and one of the last magazines that has a personality. It's like listening to your coolest uncle/aunt telling stories of the good ol' days, and then hearing about all the newest stuff too. Long LIVE Paper!

1-0 out of 5 stars PAPER IS NOT WORTH THE PAPER IT'S PRINTED ON.
IF YOU THINK OLD DRAG QUEENS ARE COOL AND BUY CLOTHING MADE BY SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF RICH PARENTS WHO CAN'T DESIGN THEIR WAY OUT OF PAPER BAG, BUT HAVE DECIDED TO CALL THEMSELVES DESIGNERS ANYWAY AFTER THE FUN OF CALLING THEMSELVES ARTISTS, OR ACTORS, OR WRITERS HAS WORN OF THEN THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU.

THIS IS A MAGAZINE THAT BRAGS ABOUT HAVING "ANN MAGNUSON" ON THEIR COVERS MORE THAN ONCE...

WHO IS "ANN MAGNUSON" YOU SAY?...MY POINT EXACTLY.

WHAT A BUNCH OF SELF GRATIFYING WANNABEES.

5-0 out of 5 stars couldnt be better
I started reading paper about a year ago, and was so pumped when I heard a book was coming out. It truly couldnt be better! its a culture textbook and should be taught in schools no joke! this book is what VH1's I Love The 90's wanted to be but failed you love it trust me.-Nick

5-0 out of 5 stars Paper is still is as fresh and outragoeus as ever!!!
Paper magazine has always been a few steps ahead of the mainstream as the true arbiter of cutting edge style - and this gorgeous book is the best of the past 20 years! An amazing document of the most exciting moments in style culture - Bravo!

1-0 out of 5 stars The Same Nobody's for Twenty Years.
It's amazing how if only a few people keep telling themselves they are special for a long enough time, they may eventually get someone outside of themselves to believe it. I feel sorry for the poor soul who greenlighted this book and was assuredly fired soon after. These guys have some how managed to write about the same group of nobodys for twenty years and call themselves cutting edge. The makers of this magazine must thank their lucky stars for their parents giving them a trust fund to ride all the way to the retirement home. How old are the founders of this magazine now anyway? They must be very close to entering that big drag show in the sky. Save your money and go buy a book from a true cutting edge magazine like Vice, Tokion,Vibe or Interview. You will be happier. ... Product Description
The questions of gender, nationality, and sexuality are all inextricably intertwined not only in foreign depictions of Spain as a place of blood and passion, of implicitly presocial and unconscious drives, but also in Hispanic accounts of the nation as motherland. In this lecture, Professor Smith focuses on two texts, La casa de Bernarda Alba by Spain's greatest twentieth-century dramatist, García Lorca, and Entre tinieblas by Pedro Almodóvar, its best-known contemporary filmmaker. Three questions are asked of these texts. How do they represent the relations between women on the stage/screen and men outside the diegetic space? How do the all-female communities they depict serve as allegories of the nation at a particular historical moment? Finally, how do the texts represent relations between women? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Funny!
The essence of spanish contracultural movement, La Movida Madrileña, is contained in this book. Parties, drugs, gay and lesbian characters, love, lonelinness appear throughout Patty Diphusa's life. Almodovar's style at his best. The stories are very creative, and hilarious.
Don't read this as if you were reading Faulnker or Shakespeare. It's lighter than that. It was written to be so. I really liked the tone on which it's written.
If you like Almodovar's films you'll like this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars A STUPID-ASS BOOK NOT WORTH READING!!!!!!!!
