5-0 out of 5 stars The Raw 50 Amazing Breakfasts, Lunches, Dinners, Snacks and Drinks for Your Raw Food Lifestyle
The book was in good condition, the delivery was on time. The Raw 50: 10 Amazing Breakfasts, Lunches, Dinners, Snacks, and Drinks for Your Raw Food Lifestyle

3-0 out of 5 stars It's OK
This book has decent recipes, which is why I bought it. However, I don't care for how it's organized--I prefer to see all desserts grouped together, etc. There were also some typos and recipe errors.I made the Almond Coconut cookies last night, and it called for 1 1/2 teaspoons of Himalayan salt.It sounded like too much to me, but thought I should follow the recipe exactly the first time. They were inedible. It should have been 1/2 tsp or less of salt.I know errors happen, but come on, editor and recipe-testers!!Mistakes like that make me question other recipes.

5-0 out of 5 stars Typical Teenage boy ate all the brownies!
I made a dinner for friends we didn't know well and I used them as test subjects for the raw brownies.Everyone took one brownie and the 16 year old boy raised on McDonald's ate the rest before we knew it.That was amazing to me.Never judge a book by the cover.Carol Alt is beautiful but even a teenaged boy will eat this food. It's tasty!

3-0 out of 5 stars good product, slow delivery
The book was in good condition, but it took 3 - 3 1/2 weeks between paying and getting the item. This is far longer than usual, although in fairness it wasn't late by Amazon's deadline (hence 3 stars, not less). Next time I'll pay the extra $1.50 to buy it direct from amazon who always gets stuff to me quicker.

2-0 out of 5 stars RAW, Yes. Vegetarian or Vegan, No.
Not a bad book, not really a good one for vegetarians or vegan raw foodists though. The use of eggs, fish (sashimi grade tuna, salmon), and dairy products in some of the recipes takes it out of the vegetarian and vegan arenas.

A lot of the recipes have quite a few ingredients and will take some time to make, especially since you have to germinate (sprout) for 6-12 hours (2 - 2-1/2 hours for raw cashews) and then dehydrate some items for quite a few hours more. Some recipes require ingredients that you have to havemade from other recipes So your prepping meals for tomorrow or the day after and not today in many cases.

The serving sizes is a bit off-putting as there's few 1-2 serving recipes (other than drinks), so making meals for one or two limits your selections or tests your math skills.

With exception of the front and back cover there's only 8 pictures in the book.

I'd recommend having a look at "Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People" by Jennifer Cornbleet instead. ... Read more

Product Description
Ten years ago, Carol Alt was feeling bad. Really bad. She had chronic headaches, sinusitis, and stomach ailments; she was tired and listless. And then Carol started eating raw—and changed her life. Eating in the Raw begins with her story and then presents practical, how-to information on everything you need to know about the exciting movement that’s been embraced by Demi Moore, Pierce Brosnan, Sting, Edward Norton, and legions of other health-minded people. You’ll learn:

•What exactly raw food is—and isn’t—and how to integrate it into your diet
•How to avoid the all-or-nothing pitfall: you can eat some cooked foods, you can eat some foods partially cooked, and you don’t have to deprive yourself
•Why raw food is not just for vegetarians or vegans—Carol eats meat, and so can you
•The differences between cooked and raw vitamins, minerals, and enzymes, and what they mean for you
•An ease-in approach to eating raw, and how to eat raw in restaurants

In addition, Carol answers frequently asked questions and offers forty simple recipes for every meal, from light dishes such as Gazpacho and Lentil Salad to entrees including Tuna Tartare and Spaghetti al Pesto and even desserts like Pumpkin Pie and Apple Tart with Crème Anglaise—rounding out a thorough, accessible, and eminently compelling case why in the raw is the best way to eat. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I'm a raw foodist, not a vegan or vegetarian
I love all the suggestions that she gives and her recipes are easy. I am not a vegan and get tired of all the vegan raw foods out there. It is refreshing to read a book by someone who eats meat and dairy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for the average raw food beginner.
Not the best book about beginning raw food. This book probably is more for those who can actually afford going by her tips (shopping at Whole Foods, Wild Oats, buying hundreds of dollars of juicers and processors.) Not many recipes, and those that are included are recipes you could find on any raw food websites in addition to the little information about raw food you find in this book. I agree with the other reviewers, you learn more about what a crappy eater Carol Alt was pre-raw food and less about the actual raw food information you want to hear about. Definitely a book I would suggest NOT to buy, a waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVEbook for the raw food journey!
This book was the first raw food book that I bought, and was sufficiently inspirational to get me "hooked" on raw for life! Carol does an amazing job! This is a wonderful book for beginners, or raw foodists who are having difficulty staying raw--struggling with energy, cravings, and hunger. The addition of raw meats and dairy are extremely helpful options...and important ones for many people. I would have liked more in-depth information and explanation regarding the raw meats and dairy products. Also, an example of an average day, or week to show us how Carol eats on a regular basis would have been great. I guess it comes down to experimentation and finding out what works for you as an individual. Overall this book is the one I go back to again and again--and I have almost EVERY raw food book in print--a library of over 50 raw food/uncook books. I always try to go vegan, thinking that it's healthier--I mean, afterall Carrie Underwood looks awesome and she's a vegan...She's also in her early 20's. But every time I try to eat raw vegan, I end up back on cooked food and I lose the amazing benefits of raw food in my life. 90+% raw is definitely the way to go--it totally changes my life--I've been eating raw off & on for the last 5 years.Actually, when I'm not eating at least 90-100% raw, I'm only existing/surviving, not living. So, for me, this book has made an incredible contribution to my life and well-being. There just isn't much out there as far as a raw food diet that includes animal products. I absolutely love animals and wish that I could be a vegan and feel good. Green juices are extremely helpful...Carol's recipes and suggestions are definitely do-able. Kim Cohen has a book that will be helpful in this area, for those of you who want more info on a raw diet that includes animal products. I've looked into Aajonus Vonderplanitz's books--it seems that many people who follow his program report not enjoying eating the diet he supports--which, for me, sounds horrible. I want to be healthy AND enjoy the food that I eat! With Carol's book, you will definitely be on your way down that path. This book has everything (except for the scope of info. I mentioned above)--her story & experience, testimonials, information, input from experts, delicious food, and enough basic recipes to get you started.... enough motivation to propel you to learn more, to start your journey to RAW...and, maybe, LIVE for the very first time!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners!
If you're interested in starting a raw food lifestyle but aren't sure if it's for you, then I absolutly recommend this book. Carol keeps it practical, doesn't get too technical. Just great advice and some great recipes on how to make the transition from the(SAD)Standard American Diet, to raw. It's all about baby steps. She mentions things like thinking about your favorite foods and trying to find their raw equivalents, such as replacing your favorite bagels with Ezekiel bread (no it's not %100 raw but is still healthier for you because it's baked at low temperatures and made from sprouted grains). Also to think about the raw foods that you already eat, like fruit or seared tuna, and expand on those. She also advises to start out with trying to make only one or two of your daily meals completely raw, and then gradually build from there. I've bought a lot of raw food books recently and this is definatly the one you want for making a friendly, non-scary transition into the raw foods lifestyle.

Also there were some reviewers that criticized Carol for mentioning her modeling fame and media raves about her beauty. I have to say in her defense, this is a book about her life and experiance with health and raw food. I mean she is a super model and her looks are what sells. And it seems the point that she's trying to make is that no matter how beautiful people think she is, she herself never really felt that way because she just didn't feel healthy and good on the inside. She was thin but always hungry and had many health problems that she tried to cover up the best she could (like most people seem to do) by taking pills. This is her story about how all of that changed once she started to pay attention to what she was eating. A lot of the other raw food books I have are really very good, but I started to feel overwhelmed. Reading Carol's book made me feel like this is something I can actually do.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great for the beginner or who need some motivating
This is a GREAT book for those just starting to eat raw or who want to learn about it.I've read about the raw diet for years so there wasn't anything new here...but I thought Carol was very motivating and explained things very well. She makes you feel like she's just like you and that helps you feel like you can do this too!I think some of her suggestions are better suited for people that have alot of money to spend on food or who live in big cities where you can find a big supply of good raw foods - but like she says "you get what you pay for".Highly recommend to those that need some raw food motivation! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars I so didn't want it to end there...
I loved this book. You can really get inside the Mac's head; it reads more like a memoir than a novel.
I kept wondering why there are so few reviews here.I think I know. I read it months ago, but could never bring myself to write a review. My problem:The book left me hanging. I was soooo mad. The story took me to a new place in MAC's life and I wanted MORE!Okay, so it forces me to buy the next one...thing is, I hate the wait!! Yes, read this book (!) but get a publishing date for book three! The ending of 'Model, Incorporated' will leave you hungry for the next phase of Mac's life.

MAC is back and ready for her close-up.

After nine months full of turmoil, MAC, formerly known as Melody Ann Croft, is ready to be the top model in the industry. She's done fashion week in New York and abroad and has even appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

What's next for the most wanted face in the modeling world?

Of course, that would be the coveted partnership with Cover Girl. MAC has already been starving herself to keep her bookers happy and she's starting to feel the results with dizzy spells and hunger pains. But the model life is so great. Especially meeting all of her admirers.

A chance meeting with older Hollywood heartthrob Patrick Carroll leads to a short-lived relationship, but it's not until MAC meets Jim, an insanely rich real estate mogul, that MAC thinks she has found the guy for her. But what does he really want from her? She's tired of being his arm candy and tired of his controlling ways.

All MAC really wants is to be the next face of Cover Girl, and she is willing to do anything to get the lucrative contract.

MAC's rise in the modeling world is too fast-paced and her affairs with older men are too numerous for just one book, but overall MAC is likeable and you can see traces of her in all of the models out there today, trying so hard to please everyone and succeed that they forget to care for themselves in the process.

Product Description

Supermodel Carol Alt takes us on a wild ride through the glamorous, cutthroat world of fashion and fame—in a biting, witty, and absolutely authentic novel that rocks the world of high-end modeling!

Tall, beautiful, practical Melody Ann Croft of Morristown, New Jersey, is busting her behind as a waitress and wishing there was an easier way to earn money for college. When a customer claiming to be a fashion photographer insists she could become a model, Melody is skeptical—and totally shocked when dropping his name actually opens agency doors. Signed up before her head has even stopped spinning, she's got a new name—Mac—and is off to her first shoot. Could this be that "easier way" at last?

But in modeling, nothing's easy. Mac faces demanding diva photographers with their body-torturing, day-long sessions, and jealous rivals whose flawless beauty hides sharp claws. There are rumors and lies, lecherous model-collecting playboys, rock stars and drugs, and the most perilous pitfall of them all . . .straight male models! Temptation is everywhere, and even a level-headed Jersey girl may have trouble keeping her footing on the long, hard climb up.

5-0 out of 5 stars I just LOVED IT!

Pra quem gosta e assisti American's next top model e moda vão adorar. Eu amei *-*

5-0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too
Melody Ann Croft is your average hometown girl - very practical, with her whole life planned out ahead of her.

That all changes one day when a customer at the restaurant where she is working tells her she could be a model and gives her his card, along with the numbers of all the top agencies in New York. Melody is a little curious, despite thinking this man is crazy, so she calls one agency and just with the mention of this man (who happens to be a famous photographer), she gets an appointment immediately.

That begins her career as MAC, the model, for Delicious Models. Her booker, Francesca, has her going on go-sees at lightning speed and she books her first job in no time.

Melody plans to save her money for college so she won't need a scholarship, but making so much money so quickly with modeling is addictive, and Melody starts thinking that maybe she can defer college and model for a few years instead. With the obvious perks of modeling also come the many pitfalls: lecherous men, drugs, and other things Melody is not used to.

After a fling with a male model named Duncan and being stabbed in the back by her so-called best friend, Jade, Melody starts to wonder who she can trust, if anyone. But after booking her first cover, only a few months into her career, Melody is hooked on modeling and traveling to exotic locations.

The only question is, how much of herself does she have to give up in order to succeed in the modeling business?

4-0 out of 5 stars Superwriter
This Year's Model has all the sparkle and insider, page-turning cachet of The DevilWears Prada -- except it's better written and funnier. Carol Alt has created a down-to-earth character who you root for to succeed. On her website, it claims that Carol Alt continues to silence her critics who say a beautiful woman can't be smart. She has certainly done it with her debut novel. It was a fun and a pleasure to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars The real first Supe tells all!
Janice Dickinson claims to be the first Supermodel. Carol Alt however is the true title holder. She rose to fame swiftly in the 80's creating a new legion of models, Supermodels -or Supes as they call themselves.

Carol Alt has appeared on over 700 magazine covers. The woman is a legend! When she set out to write a fictional novel about the world of modeling, she certainly had done her homework. Her portrayal of the industry seems to be spot on. I read Carol Alt's biography and found a lot of parallels between her life and the book. I would venture to say that this book is a semi-autobiographical fiction.

When Melody Ann Croft is discovered at a steakhouse, she is lured into the world of modeling, thinking it is only a summer job to make a few bucks for college. She has dreams of becoming a doctor and has no intention of giving that up. As she is morphed into Mac, a girl on the verge of becoming a Supe, she has to reevaluate her plans.

Her closest friends in the industry show their true colors and the picture painted isn't what Mac chose to see. She struggles with her family not agreeing with her decision as well. Will Mac make it big, or be stomped on in front of NYC's elite at Bryant Park?

This was an excellent read, I loved every minute of it and cannot wait for the next installment.

Author to watch!

4-0 out of 5 stars Well written, interesting book
This Year's Model was an entertaining book. I really enjoyed Alt's writing style and storyline. For me, it was just one of those books I couldn't put down. I don't give it 5 stars for 2 reasons.

1) I expected there to be a little more romance because of the book's genre. I understand why Alt didn't do this, but let's face it, sex sells.
2) I didn't call my friends and tell them it was a must-read when I was done. Usually when I'm really into a book with a great ending my friends are the first to hear about it. ... Read more
