2-0 out of 5 stars Guilty Bird
As a fellow pastor, I sought in this book an avenue of hope that Bird may have been framed. He wasn't. Thomas Bird killed his wife in cold blood, conspired to kill Marty Anderson, and probably was the trigger man. Racer, to his credit, included the dialogue between Bird and Darrel Carter that was caught on a hidden microphone. Bird sounded like a third class thug trying to cover his bases. The prosecutors could have hung Bird on that tape alone. Then note his post-murder behavior. Wouldn't a sane man who was innocent stay miles away from the femme fatale Lorna, who only spelled trouble? Not Bird, the "caring pastor." Instead he logs hundreds of personal calls to her, travels with her to different cities, and even admits to a sexual relationship with her. Why? To keep her story straight and aligned with his own concocted alibi. And what about those love letters??? Christian love? More like lust and passion, two of the oldest motives for murder.

What about the book? Dave Racer provides an exhaustive narrative that unfortunately slants the truth in Bird's favor (wasn't Racer hired by a friend of Bird to write this book?). But for those interested in the Bird case, I can think of worse things to do with your time than read this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Slanted View
I'm probably not the best person to write a review of this book, as I did not get to finish the entire book (interlibrary loan). But quite frankly, I wasn't sure I wanted to finish it.Yes, some parts were poorly written, and it did have a lot of detail. However, those weren't the parts of the book that bothered me.I thought the author's viewpoint was slanted. From the very beginning the author wrote about Lorna Anderson as a woman without virtue, a scarlet woman, etc. whereas, Tom Bird was a paradigm of virtue. And if he wasn't exactly that, his notes, conversations, etc. to Lorna Anderson could be easily explained so the author was still able to show Tom Bird in the best light possible.Lorna Anderson may be everything the author says she is, and more. But the very thing the author complained about (the prejudice of the movie about Tom Bird) is the exact same thing he has done in his book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Almost excellent
CBS' mini-series, "Murder Ordained" makes us think that Tom Bird is a manipulating murderer, a real louse. But the movie is wrong.

Dave Racer's book lays out the case and allows the reader to make his or her decision. The detail can sometimes get tedious, but Racer wants us to see it all.Still, the story moves along remarkably well.

True, there are typos and punctuation problems, but anyone who reads the introduction will understand. It has nothing to do with the author's incredible ability to relate a very complicated story in a way the reader can understand.

True Crime readers need to read this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars bad beyond belief
For the past 20 years I've read an average of 40 books per year. This book is without a doubt the most poorly written I've ever read. I only hung on through its repetitious hundreds of pages because I was interested in the murders that happened in a familiar locale. Early on, Racer thanks his (volunteer, father?) proofreader. He should have sprung for a pro. The punctuation in this book is not to be believed; a third-grader could do better. Beyond being poorly written, the book is totally one-sided and defies logic. I think this guy has his own publishing company, which may explain how this sorry work ever got into print.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well Documented,Serious reading.
This book is a serious well documented Look at the trial
and background of a story that most of us got to
witness on the made for tv movie of the week.

It leaves us one to wonder if we have a completely innocent
man behind bars?

a must reading for any one who is looking for the facts.

Product Description
It is well-known that Sartre's thought developed from an incomplete, abstract, and individualistic concept of human reality, human freedom, and their relation to the world, to a more concrete and richer understanding of the human being, its freedom, the power of circumstances, and the social-political nature of human existence. It is less widely recognised that there is a parallel progression in Sartre's moral thinking, from an abstract, idealistic ethics of authenticity to a more concrete, realistic and materialistic morality. Anderson's book, contains a thorough study of the two most important ethical works of Sartre to have become available since 1980, the "Notebooks for an Ethics", written in the late 1940s but published in 1983, and the unpublished manuscript of a lecture on ethics delivered in 1964, containing his most complete discussion of his "second morality". In drawing upon these and other sources, Anderson's book is a study of Sartre's first and second ethics. Anderson evaluates Sartre's arguments for his ethical positions, and concludes that his second ethics constitutes a significant advance over his first.Anderson is author of "The Foundation and Structure of Sartrean Ethics" (1979). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Many Works on One CD
Like others have said, there are so many different works spanning thousands of years of church history from St. Augustine to G.K. Chesterton. It is great to have such a variety on one convenient CD.I also appreciated the search feature, especially when I was writing a paper and wanted to be sure that I was looking at all of the occurrences of a particular theme. It is also convenient to have the option to install the documents on your hard drive or leave them on the CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Diverse Resource
Two things immediately strike you about this product. The first one is the amount of literature and writings there are. The big names i.e. Augustine, Luther, Calvin are contained on the cd, but also many others who you may not go out of your way to read. The diversity of the genres are striking since the files you have access to include meditations, prayers, commentaries, hymns, histories and even topical textbooks. All in all the amount that the cd contains is well worth the purchase price.
The second thing that is good about this product is how easy it is to use. The installation is quick and painless. The interface is fairly straight forward and is not confusing. This is a wonderful product. It contains a vast amount of knowledge and writings in a format that is both easy to access and read. Well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Resource
As a student of Christian history, I've found this CD to be really quite useful. This collection represents a wide variety of Christian perspectives throughout history. The interface is very easy, every piece of literature is searchable, the setup is a breeze. You can choose which works and/or authors to download directly from the CD to your computer, and which to access from the CD only.

The features are very easy to use; installation is easy; use is easy. Having these authors is great for personal study, for academic study, for devotional exploration. I highly recommend this collection, for anyone who wants to explore for themselves the perspectives, arguments, and doctrines throughout the Christian ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Christian Classics on CD
The Christian Classics Ethereal Library "Classics" CD is an outstanding library of 118 Christian classic books. This digital library contains 3 Bible translations and commentaries from authors such as Calvin, Henry, Luther, Spurgeon, and Wesley, and others. It also includes classic works by St. Augustine, St. Aquinas, Bounds, Bunyan, Fox, McDonald, Murray, Whitefield, etc. Early church creeds and documents on history, hymns, mysticism, and Bible dictionaries are included as well, plus sermons by some of the most famous preachers ever to proclaim the Word: Edwards, Finney, Luther, McDonald, Murray, Spurgeon, Wesley, Whitefield, etc.

All of the 118 books are in digital format but are also available in PDF format for easy downloading and printing. This is without a doubt one of the finest libraries available for Christian reading or study. It would be difficult, expensive, and time-consuming to gather all of these great books together, but CCEL has done it all on one CD. We highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great glimpse into Gurdjieff and the "work."
I particularly like this book because it tries to give the impression of meeting Gurdjieff and always feeling a certain mystery about him. The narrator is not a systematizer or proponent of the work primarily, but more a seeker who found something real that she did not expect. If you want an introduction to the forth way teachings read: The search for the Miraculous by Ouspensky, Teachings of Gurdjieff by C.S. Nott, and Meetings with remarkable men by Gurdjieff. But if you're looking for a more impressionistic portrait, one that is as much about the narrator as Gurdjieff, this is a great find. ... Read more
