5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing craftwork, very interesting!
A fascinating look at the history of pop-up books. Some very clever examples, all lovingly hand-crafted by members of the Movable Book Society, along with biographical and historical information. Pop-up books are not just for kids! And I wouldn't give this one to a kid who would mess it up. This is a collector's item. Truly a beautiful work of art. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars An Utter Waste of Money
I deeply regret wasting $10 on this. 25 cents would have been too much. Instead of containing analsysis, it is simply a few talking heads congratulating each other on how smart and insightful they have been in making remarks that aren't included, and how dumb the rest of us are. And in one respect, they're correct: I was really dumb for paying money for such trash. Please learn from my mistake. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Way to Review
I'm not good at all with testing, but for me the questions in this practice set were similar to what I saw on the official exam. I studied this for a quick review, so I wasn't sure if this resource alone would get me to pass.I don't recommend you use only one resource to study. I used multiple sets of practice questions and one other review book. What I liked best was that the questions were in a format similar to the way they were presented on the actual exam. That helped me get accustomed to answer the questions. Overall, this is a good, affordable extra practice resource that helps.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for the price
Good for the price. Not sure that it covers the entire exam, as there are few union, safety or training related questions. Not truly 3000 questions, as many questions are repeated several times with only a name change (Jill to John). Given the price, a great start. ... Read more

Product Description
Most people carry around emotional baggage without realizing how it negatively affects the quality of their everyday lives. Burn This Book . . . and Move On with Your Life helps readers identify those issues that are dragging them down, whether they are fear or pride or anger, and then gives them a way to purge their problems from their lives. Each page of Burn This Book addresses a new topic, such as "I will no longer blame my parents for my choices" or "I will let go of the need to be perfect," and includes supporting text that examines that particular issue.. Once the reader has contemplated a particular problem, he or she tears out that perforated page, internalizes the simple lesson, then casts it away for good by carefully putting it to flame.Burn This Book offers a uniquely active and involved reading experience-one in which symbolic destruction through fire brings mental rejuvenation. It's an ideal way for readers to free themselves from restrictive thinking by taking dramatic action. Blank pages in the back of the book allow readers to write down specific personal issues and work through them in a similar fashion. From cover to cover, Burn This Book . . . and Move On with Your Life is a refreshing way to resolve problems and make life better. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Read book, THEN burn it, learn from my mistake!
I made the fatal error of burning this book as soon as I got it in the mail (note: the packaging from Amazon is *highly* flammable). I did this in my front entryway which has a slate floor - lucky for me, I could have burned down the whole house! I later learned from a friend that there are actually things to read in the book (I assumed they were containing spells in another language). They really need to re-name the book, or add a warning on the cover, something like "WARNING POUR SAND ALL OVER YOUR FRONT ENTRY WAY BEFORE YOU BURN THIS BOOK FOR REAL"

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
My wife is a psychotherapist and hands this book out to many of her clients. She finds it helpful for helping clients move on when they are stuck in old feelings.

1-0 out of 5 stars the title was better than the read
I was expecting something out of the ordinary however I didn't get it. The book seems like it was written to make money and not to do anything in particular. Don't even buy this book

4-0 out of 5 stars I never thought I'd be a fan of burning books...
...but this is a great idea. There's something theraputic about tearing out one of these pages of reflection, writing your troubles on it, and watching it go up in flames.Nicely done, although there's nothing wrong with saving the $$ and writing on your own paper.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Feel-good checklist
The book does a good job of outlining some of the common problems we all have, but rarely express or do anything about. It is creative in the way it is made.Everyone needs to read this at least once in their life. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description
The development of 'ageless' mental health services means that an increasing number of clinicians are now required to work with older people. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is recognized by all recent meta-analyses as the most effective therapy, yet few clinicians are trained specifically in its usage with the elderly. This book is the first ever detailed guide to using CBT with older people both with and without cognitive difficulties, and reviews its use in different settings, covering both conceptual and practical perspectives. Ian James discusses CBT and its adaptation, moving on to review therapy in terms of the key stages of assessment, formulation and interventions. Case studies in both depression and dementia, together with observations from real-life practice, are then used to provide practical advice. Much of the material draws from standard therapeutic processes and techniques, but it is presented in a manner that makes it more appropriate to an older generation. Rather uniquely, the book provides practical guidance on how to work therapeutically with people with dementia, particularly those living in care.Indeed, one of the final chapters provides 'state-of-the-art' descriptions on how to help staff who are faced with challenging behaviors. This book is suitable for trainees and experiences therapists. It contains material relevant to therapists working across all age ranges. It deals with the therapy of choice for working with people with depression and anxiety across the age ranges. All meta-analyses suggest that CBT is the preferred therapy for working with older people. This should be first sentence. There are relatively few teaching texts on using CBT with older people. None provide a detailed account of using CBT with people with dementia - USP. It presents the following structure: causes, overview of treatments, (inc medication), working into different settings, case studies, general overview. Really nothing else is available that incorporates CBT with dementia and challenging behavior. ... Read more

39. Understanding Behaviour That Challenges: A Practical Guide to Working with People with Dementia (Bradford Dementia Group Good Practice Guides)
by Ian Andrew James
 Paperback: 160 Pages (2011-02-15)

Isbn: 1849051089
Canada | United Kingdom | Germany | France | Japan
Editorial Review

Product Description
As people grow older, their physical and psychological needs become more complex. Unmet needs often result in challenging behaviour, particularly if the person suffers from dementia. Ian Andrew James looks beyond the behaviour itself to the causes behind it, suggesting both medical and non-pharmalogical approaches to lessening suffering and improving quality of life and wellbeing. Recognising that challenging behaviours occur at times of distress and reflect an attempt to cope with difficult situations, this book works towards understanding the nature of this distress, examining the views of the client and using the information gathered to prevent repetition of upsetting and uncomfortable circumstances. Older people frequently suffer from pain, and from a lack of stimulation, companionship and autonomy, yet positive steps can be taken to create a happier environment, particularly in care homes. Following an exploration of the nature of challenging behaviour, the book goes on to discuss psychotropic medication, psychological approaches, conceptual models for aiding assessment and treatment, and an example of the Unmet Needs Model in action. The book concludes with a series of insightful case studies, which clarify the content and will enable anyone dealing with challenging behaviour in older people to set about improving it. This book will be of great interest to everybody involved in the care of older people, including care staff and healthcare practitioners. This series constitutes a set of accessible, jargon-free, evidence-based good practice guides for all those involved in the care of people with dementia and their families. The series draws together a range of evidence including the experience of people with dementia and their families, practice wisdom, and research and scholarship to promote quality of life and quality of care. ...
