5-0 out of 5 stars All or Nothing, vivid descriptions, sweet romance
Ms. Ludwig's story takes place in the old west of 1876 in Arizona. Her portrayal of the developing romance between RuthAnne, a beautiful widow, and Bowen, an army captain, is tastefully done, remaining sweet. Her descriptions of the landscape, clothing, and every aspect of life in those times is so striking and vivid. You're placed right there amidst the scorching heat of the Arizona sun and desert. The dangerous bandit El Tejano and other characters are brought to life as RuthAnne and Bowen find each other, in heart and soul. This is the second story of Ms. Ludwig's I've read and like the first one; this one is a wonderful read.

5-0 out of 5 stars You'll be instantly intrigued and transported...
back in time to experience what it was like to live in the desert, walk and ride past saguaros, listen to the coyotes and feel for yourself how the first settlers struggled to exist in the untamed West. Ludwig's expertise of the area, her well-researched and spectacular descriptions of the ecology, architecture, clothing, land and people, as well as a compelling story, make this a book you can't put down until the satisifying end.

5-0 out of 5 stars A tender romance of the wild west with a riveting plot.
In "All or Nothing," Ashley Ludwig has created a riveting and descriptive story that captures the era of wild west. The heroine RuthAnne is a strong, but gentle woman who is innovative, and determined to survive the blows inflicted on her and her younger sister.

By faith and sheer determination RuthAnne and Mara flee from a vicious bandit who is responsible for their stage tumbling to the bottom of a ravine. El Tejano will not rest until he sees the only two survivors from the wreckage dead. But the bandit meets his match in Captain Bowen Shepherd, who always appears in the nick of time to rescue the beautiful RuthAnne.

Life at the fort is rough, but RuthAnne endures her grueling job as a laundress, washing dirty clothes for the soldiers, to provide for her sister and to save enough money for their new start.

The chemistry between RuthAnne and Bowen grows with each encounter, though Bowen is determined not to commit. Bowen is a man you can easily fall for. Protective yet gentle. Strong without being chauvenistic.

The characters come to life in this page turner. "All or Nothing" isn't one of those books you take to bed to put you to sleep. It's one you can't put down. You have to know what will happen next! I put the book down and turned off the light several nights, only to have my curiosity piqued to the point that I flicked the lamp back on. I had to know how RuthAnne was going to get out of her current jam.

The Arizona desert was brought to life. I could feel the thorns tearing at me. I could see the glorious sunsets. Ms. Ludwig has a way of writing description that most of us can only wish for.

With "All or Nothing" there is never a dull moment. The plot gets thicker with each chapter, and you are kept guessing if the slippery El Tejano will ever be caught. I highly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys tender romance, drama, action, suspense, and the wild west. This books contains it all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great historical romance!!!
Ashley Ludwig introduced me to a place I'd never been before in her debut historical romance, All Or Nothing. I normally don't read historicals, so I wasn't sure if this book would be something I would enjoy. But my doubts were put to rest within the first few pages. This book took me to another world!!! The grace and compassion of the heroine drew me in, as well as the quiet strength of the hero. I especially loved how the heroine took care of the soldiers who were her laundry clients. Well done Ashley! And I look forward to your next book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Arizona Territory , 1876
After the lossof her husband RuthAnne Newcombhad nothing left forherin Alabama. With the responsibility of her sister to take care of, they head outon a journey to Arizona. Where employmentawaits her as a seamstress for the army, she is sure thatlateron she will be able to open her own business and provide a living for her and her sister.

The last leg of their journey is by stagecoach, on a narrow mountain road. An accident, the stageover the side, the horses and driverat the bottom of the canyon floor. Mara and Ruth narrowly escaping death, but their only possessions they own at the bottom also. The accident is a cover up in order to rob the stage coach by the notorious robber El Tejano. As they areshot and left for dead, Army Captain Bowen Shepherd rescues them andtakes them to the mission.

Working with the Captain can the two of them bring El Tejanoto justice. As the only witness alive to identify him will they get him before he gets RuthAnne. Will RuthAnnefind love again in the Captain?

This is a very well writtentender love story, withsuspense and intrigue dispensed throughout the story line. From the details of the magnificent scenery in the Arizona territory .If you are one that lives in Arizona then you will understandhow the author has so visualized your landscape in thisbook. This was a very inspirational read and one that I will re read again. Ms. Ludwig is a very outstanding author andthe inspiration flows through herbook.

Product Description
From Cleopatra and Herodotus to Howard Carter and the Curse of the Pharaohs, the investigators in The Mammoth Book of Egyptian Whodunnits uncover the murder mysteries of Ancient Egypt in over two dozen stories. Master anthologist Mike Ashley has gathered hidden gems and specially commissioned pieces from the genre’s favorite practitioners like Elizabeth Peters, Suzanne Franke, Michael Pearce, and featuring such favorite ancient-world investigators as Lynda Robinson’s Lord Meren, "the Eyes and Ears" of Nefertiti and Tutankhamun, Paul Doherty’s judge Amerotke from the 18th Dynasty, and Lauren Haney’s Lieutenant Bak of the Medjay police under Queen Hatshepsut, to beguile and confound historical mystery readers. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars 19 tales, only 2 duds
I'd call that pretty good odds. As a fan of Lauren Haney and Lynda S. Robinson, it was a pleasure to have a buffet of delicacies from other authors to sample their style and wordsmithing. I'm going to order some more of these 'Mammoth Whodunnits" featuring other settings. I don't think they can beat Egypt though as a jewel of a setting.

4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable selection of mysteries
The stories in this anthology are consistently good, which is a relief. There are not centuries but millenia of possible settings and the editor has done a good job of selecting a spread of times and places as well as authors. The historical settings are not annoying or invasive to the reader except in one story, the weakest in the book IMO.I'm glad I bought the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars If you like History and Mystery....
These stories are set in various times during Ancient Egypt, and are written by masters in the field of historical mystery.Stories were well crafted and riveting.I would have prefered a little more background on both the author and the main characters, especially the the authors I hadn't read before, but it's not really necessary.I will be looking for some of the authors to read more about their characters. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars 5 teacups from Happily Ever After Reviews
All I can say is Wow. This story is incredible. Part of the Flower Basket series, each story by a different author stands alone in its own right. If you only read one, this one would be it.

Cain, a musician and man of many talents is desperate to write songs again, not having written since his high school girlfriend left him ten years previously. Misty, fleeing a controlling ex-boyfriend hides out in a sleepy town under the guise of caring for her grandmother. Slowly she gets her life back, in more ways than one.

The setting is amazing. I love books that pull you in and make you feel as if you are there and this one does that with its simple but intricate description of the breeze, the olive trees, right down to the paint on the walls and the faded curtains.

Firmly grounded in reality, both Misty and Cain show their fears and strengths equally, in this love story that keeps you turning the pages. The sub-plot is lovely and I didn't see it coming. The ending is perfect. Definitely one to read over and over.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Weekend Romance
Travel to the small town of Almendra, California and find out why Misty's returned to live with her grandmother Nona, a former film star. Will the rugged handyman/musician grab Misty's heart or is she done with love? This is the perfect sweet, short romance to download on Friday night and finish over the weekend. Or take along while you wait for the kids' music or sports lessons. I read it at the breakfast table and finished it while soaking in my tub and loved every minute. Ludwig's turns of phrase, descriptions and characters make this a can't-put-down-page turner.

Look for other great novels from this talented author Ashley Elizabeth Ludwig's got great story, set in interesting places with charming characters.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for a Long Weekend
His Darling is a sweet romance with some of the most charming characters I have come across in some time. When Misty decides to live with her once famous film star grandmother, she's disconcerted that the local musician slash handyman seems to accidentally be bumping into her every place she goes.

Misty is running away from a controlling ex who has betrayed her in every way. I liked how despite that, her heart is open to the goodness and kindness people still have to offer. Her grandmother is a gentle soul who offers far more than just a place to live -- she is the epitome of kindness, forgiveness and wisdom. Who wouldn't want to have a grandmother like that?

I was blindsided by Cain Trovado. He is the essence of sexy: artistic, sensitive, rugged and smart. When he's not helping with his family's olive orchard business, he's putting on lawn concerts and painting little old ladies houses for free. Cain's intrigue and determination in winning Misty's interest and then heart, is such a likable journey. He makes no bones about his interest in her and does everything he can to help her through her tough times, even calling her out on her own weaknesses when things need to be said.

Ms. Ludwig writes with clear purpose. Her settings and characters are universal in a way that captures and keeps your interest, yet there's no pandering to shock plotting or over blown love scenes. It's a sweet, simple story that is beautiful enough to lose yourself in completely. There are several moments of striking cleverness in some of the lines. I truly admired the read just as much as I enjoyed it. His Darling is feel good romance for any long weekend.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Job
How many of us wish we could go back to the place of our pain and not only overcome, but emerge the victor? This is exactly the position Lee (aka Rosalee) is in when she returns to her hometown and opens a business using a different name than the one she had when she endured the torturous antics teenagers put each other through.

Ms. Ludwig has done a great job of exploring those feelings with truth and justice for all parties involved.
