5-0 out of 5 stars BRAVO!
One of her very best. I could not put this book down! If you have never read Madeline's books and you love romance novels. Well she is the "Master"!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great read!!
A great book by a great writer! Madeling Baker comes out with yet a nother wonderful book. I would recomend this book to anyone looking for adventure and romance.

5-0 out of 5 stars The storytelling of Madeline Baker
... is wonderfully done.Caitlyn hates Indians for the killings of her brothers, and that means alll indians, even half-breeds, and even though she saved Stalking Wolf from the hangman doesn't mean he gets off scott-free with her.She has this wall built up around her than no man can penetrate, not even Stalking Wolf... or can he?For she cannot get him out of her mind and his proud bearing and hard body are drawing her defenses down.Madeline Baker is a truly wonderful where indian romance is concerned!

5-0 out of 5 stars Original!
This book is very original. This is why it held my attention.Caitlyn was fearful of Stalking Wolf, but by being afraid of him she was also afraid of her feelings for him.She went through many hardships including hermother's death, then her brother's were killed by indians, and finally herfather was killed in their ranch. Now, Stalking Wolf, having indian bloodmust endure her scolding gaze, paying for something he did not do.Willshe put her past behind her and start a new life with Stalking Wolf?Readit and find out!Baker, is there a sequel to this book?Perhaps gettingStalking Wolf's family(father, stepmother and sister) together? ... One more notch in Madeline's 'Great Novel Post'. This was a Super read.
I highly recommend this book Feather in the Wind (Leisure Historical Romance) for all Historical Romance lovers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good Read
Good from beginning to end. I like my romances a bit more sensual with longer love scenes, but Madeline Baker's writing makes up for it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic.
Everything the other reviewers said is true about this book.Even though it took be 3 days to finish it, I didn't want to put it down & see it end.

I don't know weather there is a story for Black Winds uncle, that preceded this one, but if there is i'd love to read that one too.

This is the 1st. timetravel by Madeline but it won't be my last.I am just about to start "Under a Praire moon" & shall be searching for her other stories.

5-0 out of 5 stars This needs 10 stars
Madeline Baker can write Native American romance better than anyone I
have ever read, because to her the story and the Indian hero are more
important than the sex. Hope to see a lot more from her.

4-0 out of 5 stars A FOUR PLUS STAR - RECOMMENDED
Yuma Prison - Arizona Territory.
What a nasty Hell hole.
How does one survive the brutish mentality of the guards, especially when you know that you are not guilty of the crime for which you are incarcerated?

Four and a half years have led Nathan Chasing Elk to the point of trying to excape one last time.He has to find his daughter, he has not heard of her in almost 3 years.

Catherine Lyons is struggling to protect herself from Marteen the Apache who wants her for his woman while waiting for her brother, Mark to return. Well she has had it. She decides to strike out for Finley's Crossing and head east.

Marteen seems to bring Chasing Elk and Catherine together.
Catherine takes Nathan back to her ranch house. As time passes they are both under survalience by the Apaches and decide it is time to move out.

Chasing Elk can't leave Catherine behind as she seems to fascinate him.We get to follow them on a dirty, dusty trek across the Territory in search of Leah, Nathan's daughter.

Oh, oh Marteen is back.
Then a broken leg holds them up until there is danger of Nathan being recognized. There is another long trek to the Dakotas in search of Nathan's mother and her People.

This leads to a very important education for Cate and Leah when they finally find and make a summer home [after marriage]with Macawi and her family.Ah, but there is one more desperate rescue that Nathan must perform with the help of his step-father.

But, oh boy, Nathan finds out that Jim Buckner is in the vicinity and he decides to wreak his vengence on the man.Even bringing him in to the sheriff does not stop the miscarriage of justice once again. Will Nathan ever get to see Catherine and Leah again?

DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED [hey, no premarital sex and the story is still great.]

4-0 out of 5 stars I loved it!
I couldn't put this book down. It is the first Madeline Baker book I have read, but it won't be the last. I really liked the way she tied in geographic history with a very exciting plot and a very sensual love story. I really appreciated that the characters had high morals and showed that you can have desires and control them until the proper time!! and find REAL love.

4-0 out of 5 stars tense Indian romance
It has been four years six months and counting since Jim Buckner arranged for Chasing Elk to be sent to Yuma Prison, a hell hole of abuse from the likes of guard Fat Tom.Only revenge and seeing his daughter Leah keeps Chasing Elk going. When an opportunity arrives to escape, he takes it, but is severely injured in the process.

With her parents recently dead and Apache Marteen wanting rancher Catharine Lyons as his woman, she so far she has refused him using the excuse that her man is coming for her though she knows she will not have much time left to say no.She either must return to Boston or he will take her as her brother Mark is no protection. When a near dead Chasing Elk reaches her ranch at about the same time as Marteen and his retinue of braves, she claims he is her husband. The stranger agrees. As Catharine nurses Chasing Elk back to physical health and he begins to work the ranch, an attraction between them arises. However, Marten wants him dead; the law wants him in prison; Chasing Elk wants his daughter; Catharine wants his love. However, first his mind must heal if he lives long enough.

DAKOTA DREAMS is a tense Indian romance starring a courageous heroine and a battered male with demons screaming at him to avenge the death of his wife and to bring his daughter home, which he wants to believe, is at Catharine's ranch. The character driven tale is loaded with plenty of action as the key players will converge in a showdown.Though the support cast seems somewhat one dimensional, Madeline Baker's latest nineteenth century star-crossed romance contains a fresh fun story line.

4-0 out of 5 stars MAYBE A 4 PLUS - NO DANGEROUS TENSION
First review hits the spot.
Excellent writing - enjoyable story - danger not strong enough or really present.

Ridge Longtree is half Apache, fast gunman and dangerously good looking.
Martha Jean Flynn recognizes an attraction but fights it, her attitude for a 23 year old doesn't quite fit, bull-headed, stubborn and she can walk among the men and not get propositioned?

So much angst against the absent mother, Nellie - what really happened between her and her husband?
The will, the will - who gets the ranch now that Flynn is dead?
Who will Victor Claunch actually marry?
Who killed Seamus Flynn? Did he know his killer?

Her sister, Dani, appears to be flighty, and ready to fall into some man's arms.It didn't take Sanza long to seduce her.It just doesn't fit.

Sanza didn't rough Dani up even a little - doesn't make sense.Even if he was smitten with her he would have been a little agressive.

Still, a very enjoyable read - Will definitely recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Under Apache Skies - Great Book!
This was the first Madeline Baker book I've read.I'm really partial to the Native American books so when I ran across this one I thought I'd give it a try.WOW, I couldn't put it down!I'll be shopping for some more of her stuff, it was great!

5-0 out of 5 stars Madeline Baker cooks up another winner!
Ms. Baker's novels are so well-researched and historically accurate that it's surprising to find that she isn't Native American herself. This book gives a fascinating insight into Apache culture set against a rich romance with characters both sexy and sympathetic. Highly recommend!

4-0 out of 5 stars fine western romance
Ridge Longtree is a highly regarded gunfighter, but is weary with no place to call home.Marty Flynn allows him to spend the night in the bunkhouse while she and her sister Dani worry that their father has not come home. When they find blood on her dad's horse, Marty hires Ridge because she believes their neighbor Victor Claunch bushwhacked her father.Ridge finds her dead dad.

Victor tells Ridge he will be unemployed once he marries Marty, who writes a letter to her estranged mother that her husband is dead and Dani needs her.Victor informs Marty she will marry him, but she avoids the topic by saying that her dad just died. That night Dani meets her beau Cory.Nettie arrives, but Marty fails to welcome her. They realize Dani is not home.Ridge figures out that Apaches have taken Dani and Cory.

Apache Sanza speaks English with Dani who he decides he will make his wife.Ridge and Marty follow. The Indians recognize Ridge from when he lived with them.He and Marty go to the Apache camp.Ridge tells Marty that Cory is dead.Sanza proposes marriage and Dani accepts.Ridge proposes to Marty who accepts, but first they must prove Victor killed her father and their mother feels she can.

The lead couple is a fine pairing that readers will enjoy because their growing love provides different types of redemption for them. The insight into the Apache relationship between in-laws is quite interesting. The villain is obviously sneaky which leads to readers wondering why townsfolk think highly of him. Though the estranged mother seems too innocent while the deceased father too guilty, fans will enjoy this exciting western romance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it !!!!!!!!!!!
A lovely story of a ghost who was hanged for something he didn't do, given a second chance to change history. One of the best stories I have read.I shall be looking for more of Madeline's books in future.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great read!!
Loved this dook. I thought it was wonderful that Dalton was a ghost and fell in love with Kathy Before traveling back in time. I found their romance exciting and fun. I simply couldn't put down this book. I own many Madeline Baker books and love them all(except one), this one is no exception.

5-0 out of 5 stars Madeline Baker at her BEST!!!
This, like "First Love, Wild Love" is one of Madeline's books that will stay with me for a life time! Dalton Crowkiller is a man that will live in my memory forever. Like one of the other reviews said, "Eddie Little Sky" must have really made a lasting impression on Madeline when she modeled these characters after him. All I can say is that I am sorry that I never met him, but felt like I have after reading this book! Thank you Madeline for such a romantic, on the edge of your seat best book I have ever read. I will read it again and again

5-0 out of 5 stars Love and Passion as pure as gold!
The first third of the story is about Kathy meeting the ghost of Latoka half- breed, Dalton Crowkiller. This is easily one of the most heart- churning and innocent stories of building romance I've ever read. They can see one another, they can talk to one another, he can even hold her and kiss her for a moment. But his spiritual energy becomes weak, causing him to fade away if he spends the energy expressing his feelings. They are becoming so close in heart, but are so far from the ability to show it.Here is the story:

Kathy has inherited a ranch from her late husband's family. No one has lived on the ranch for decades, because the place has a reputation for being haunted.Kathy moves in and begins rebuilding the more- than- century- year- old ranch house. She has a feeling that she is not alone. She thinks she has even seen a man outside her window.Who is he and why is he watching her?

Dalton was the "fastest gun in the west", back in the 1870's.He worked as a hired gun. When a white woman seeks to seduce him, he turns her down because she is married.Angry, the woman accuses him of rape.Being a half- breed, he is not given a trial. He is whipped and hanged. With the rope placed around his neck, he vows to haunt the home and never give his killers peace.

For 125 years, Dalton's spirit has hovered over the ranch where he was hanged.Bored and lonely, he finds fun in scaring the people who occasionally rent the house for vacations. He does so by taking people's keys, and by moving things around in the home.He does all he can to make his presence known, because no one can see him or hear him. This all changes when a woman moves into the home.He is amazed to learn that she can see him.She can even hear him and talk to him.Even more amazing: they can actually touch one another.

Once her fear of this ghost fades, Kathy quickly becomes grateful for his presence. She has been lonely and grieving for her husband for over a year. This Lakota ghost quickly becomes her closest friend. He helps her rebuild her home and teaches her to ride a horse. Before long, their relationship builds just like the home they are restoring together. They are falling in love, but can not express it completely.Dalton pleads with God to give him another chance at life with Kathy.Kathy makes the same plea, realizing that Dalton has given her back what she has been missing for the past year: Hope.

While out riding, the couple stops at "the hanging tree."This time, they make their heartfelt pleas together. As an answer to their pleas, they are sent back in time to a few weeks before Dalton's death. He is now whole and human again. They are given a chance to change the past together.

Again, this is only the first third of the story! There is so much more ahead:
They live in the town where Dalton was killed, travel together to Dalton's Lakota village, then travel to Boston to seek out his mother and get married. They both have a horrible feeling that their time together is limited.Feeling that everyday might be their last together, they spend what time they have showing their love for one another. When time runs out, will they be separated? Will he be allowed to return with her?He would even willingly become a ghost again if it meant being with Kathy. What will fate hand them?

This couple is so beautiful together, I found myself nearly holding my breath while waiting to see if they would win their quest for a lifetime together.I felt every one of their highs and lows throughout the book. This is some excellent writting.

Nearly 400 pages long, I read this book in one day. There was no point where I could put it down.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not a page turner for me...
I can usually devour a good book in a day or two(if there is enough time in my schedule). It took over two weeks for me to read, and it felt like a chore. I found myself skimming pages, simply to get through the book. I read the reviews and was excited to read my first Madeline Baker. The book felt preachy toward the end, and I could see almost every plot twist coming. Neither of the characters were intriguing to me. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Red Rose Romance Reader Reviews
Book Title: Apache Flame
Pages: 342
Author: Madeline Baker
Genre: Historical

Main Characters:

Alisha Faraday and Mitchy Garrett

Overall Quality
First, let me explain that I purposely seek out little known historical romance authors because I prefer unique story plots. I abhor the standard published romance drivel forced on us by certain publishers who think we women are a bunch of low iq idiots!! I hate the standard boy girl - love hate plots these publishers throw at us. These reviews reflect my tastes and my tastes in romance reading only. I do not claim to be the expert for everyone like our romance publishers think they are.

Story Plot:
Growing up together the boy from the wrong side of parentage is befriended and falls in love with the preacher's daughter. Secretly their friendship grows to love. Both sets of parents lie to the children. These lies complicate their innocent lives until fate unites them as adults. The truth is revealed and together they fight the deceit to bring their love and family together.

I especially liked:
The Native American peoples in this story were not treated as hollywood plastic stereotypes. This author treated them as they truly were, loving and devoted to family.

I didn't like
the Comanche part, but it was necessary for action in the story.

When I finished the book I wanted to:
Find more of her books.

This book made me feel:
Interested and the way she wrote created a movie in my mind.

I recommend this book because:
The plot is unique.Baker has a good hook and an interesting story.

4-0 out of 5 stars Just Great
This book was really worth the 2 hours I spent reading it. It was really clever of Baker to give us the flashbacks into Alisha and Mitch's past. It really helped you to understand how they fell in love. The real plot of this story in my opinion was to undercover all the lies that tore them appart. The most hurtful lies were the ones from their fathers. First telling Mitch that his mother was dead. Then Alisha's father telling her that the baby she was having by Mitch was stillborn. Man what fathers would do to keep their children under lock and key. Besides the gloomy parts this book will give you a good laugh. I had to keep covering my mouth to keep me from laughing out loud. All in all this is a great book hope you enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book!
This book was completely satisfactory.i enjoyed its content.I loved Baker's creativity. This was my first book by Baker, and it will certainly not be the last. Mitchy sounds like Prince Charming to my imagination, andi certainly love to dream.Keep 'em coming Baker!

3-0 out of 5 stars not particularly authentic!
The storyline was okay but the 20th century dialog didn't fit with the mid-1800's story.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deception, tragedy and love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was so speechless after I've read this book. It was so emotional that I actually cried. All those years, Lisha had blamed Mitchy for deserting her and thought that Mitchy fell out of love for her, not knowing that all thetime, it was her father who had deceived her and Mitch. This book is a"must" read and don't even think twice whether to get it or not.Believe me you won't regret it when you read the passion between Mitch andAlisha. Ms. Baker, you are the best! I can't wait for your next book tocome out. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally a Native American novel with respect.
Lakota Love Song is a simple story of love. It is about a young white woman whom is full of compassion and acceptance whom falls in love with an equally compassionate Lakota warrior. It is not a steamy sexy romance but modest and sweet, something pure and innocent that should grab every heart. Kay-Lee ( how Blue Hawk pronounces her name which adds to the believable line) is not a spoiled sassy girl nor does the two fuss and fight. Blue Hawk is not an arrogant warrior that shows his superior by forcing Kay-Lee around. Instead they are compatible lovers stuck in a heartless world full of bitter revenge. Together they fight ignorance and brutality in order to be one.
The author done a wonderful job at describing the hatred the white inflicted upon the Indian race. She is also respectful toward the Lakota race as well as actuate in recreating battles.
I was really shocked as well as disappointed when I read some of the negative reviews from other readers. It seems ignorance and prejudice still prevail. If you are open minded and want to learn more about the Lakota and the history of Crazy Horse (Cheyenne) and enjoy vivid battles then this is the book for you. Again this is not a steamy erotic book which is all some people care to read, but very sweet. Don't get me wrong their love is very strong and the romance is about love not sex. Lakota Love Song will take your mind across the North West into the battle of Little Big Horn and leave your heart enchanted from a love so strong that the power of hate could not diminish.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just finished it last night!!
Great story, wonderful ending. I definitely consider this a Christian romance novel, because of how Kaylee's stepfather had a sudden change of heart. He may have been a bigot in the beginning but realizing how much he truly loved Kaylee's mother and what Blue Hawk did for him and his family and realizing who really was stealing his cattle, I just had to give this 5 stars. The book was off the hook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Romance
I loved it. I loved hoe the heroine saved him and how the hero was so taken with her right from the beginning. It was definitely a great book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent historical, good romance, depressing ending
This book stands out for me because of the incredible scene of the battle against Custer.Very well written and triumphant. Also, Baker makes good use of the Lakota language and stays true to many of their traditions. As a historical story, this book is very enthralling.
The romance is good, because of Blue Hawk's devotion to Kaylee. However, Kaylee gets annoying because she pushes Blue Hawk into dangerous situations, with only her own comfort in mind.
The end is very depressing. It is true to history, but I like leaving a book with a happy glow. This one ends with Blue Hawk in despair over the loss of his friend and leader, Crazy Horse. Also, Blue Hawk's people are all dead or scattered, and Blue Hawk is forced to give in to living in the white world. No happy ending here.

4-0 out of 5 stars Another wonderful story from a master of Native American rom

Kaylee Matthews is out riding her family's ranch one day and comes across a Lakota warrior who was wounded and left for dead. She knows she must help him, and does so while hiding him from her family. As she is helping him recover, Kaylee finds herself becoming bound to him, tighter and tighter.

Blue Hawk awakens to find himself in a white man's lodge, with a beautiful vision before him. He is an injured outsider to this world and longs to return to his village and people. All the while though, he is drawn to Kaylee and does not want to leave her. However, his people need him, and he longs for revenge against the white man who broke his word, stealing supplies meant for the Lakota, and shooting Blue hawk, leaving him for dead.

Kaylee promises to help Blue Hawk return home, getting a lot more than she bargained for in the process. Now Kaylee is the outsider among the Lakota, and must learn to live as they do. As she adapts to her new life, the passion between her and Blue Hawk grows...their love becoming stronger every day. Kaylee discovers she loves the Indian way of life, but misses her family all the same, hoping they are well.

However, the Lakota are on the run and Kaylee with them. Custer is tracking them down, to force all Indians on to reservations and free up their land for settlers to develop. The Indians decide to take a stand and defend their sacred land. Will they be successful? Will Kaylee and Blue Hawk overcome the odds to remain together?

Ms. Baker has once again proven why she is one of the reigning queens of Native American romance. Kaylee and Blue Hawk's relationship is so pure and true, each only wanting what is best for the other. The secondary characters are also a rare treat. The interaction between them and the hero and heroine is well done and adds to the story. Their growth as people is as evident as Kaylee and Blue Hawk's, but never overshadows them.

The research that went into this story is unmistakable. One will love all of the historical facts thrown in. It was wonderful to read such detailed scenes, even the violent Battle of Little Big Horn, which is a vital turning point to the story. There is even a little bit of mystery thrown in, though this reviewer had it solved as soon as it was mentioned.

This is a touching story, full of emotion. The reader will laugh, cry, scream, and grieve along with Kaylee and Blue Hawk. Their emotion is so powerful; one will feel how torn they are between their families and their love for each other. Ms. Baker's books are always a pleasure to read. It is known that each story will be unique...a masterpiece...and Lakota Love Song does not disappoint. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Angel & The Outlaw by Madeline Baker
I hadn't read anything by Madeline in quite awhile, I was not surprised that I couldn't put the book down. I just had not been doing much reading as of lately. Well picking up Madeline's The Angel & The Outlaw has put me into a reading marathon again. *S*
Madeline is one of my favorite authors of Historical Romance Indian stories, along with Roseanne Bittner's Arizona Bride many novels. This was only the second 'time travel' book I had read, at first I was skeptical, but oh it was just as exciting as all of her books. I have been hooked on Madeline's books since 'Reckless Heart'. I have bought Madeline's books for gifts many times.
If you have not read this book, I highly recommend The Angel & the Outlaw (Leisure Historical Romance).

5-0 out of 5 stars I Loved This Book!
I have to say that I love dark heroes and J.T. Cutter is one of the best. He aslo has a vunerable side that makes you feel and cry for him. I also enjoyed the banter he and Brandy have throughout the novel. I couldn't put the book down and the writing style and characters has got me hooked on Baker's novels. I went out and bought some more. I used to not buy western style romances, but this novel changed my mind.

5-0 out of 5 stars Madeline Baker recieves 5 stars for best Romance!!!!!
I was never the type of person to be into romance novels, not the typethat is, until i picked up one of Madeline Bakers' books - this being thefirst one (I read it back in my freshman year of HIGH SCHOOL!) I absolutelylove the way she writes!! You'd think she's indian herself, but she's not. When i start a book of hers, it's hard to put it down - i have to almostforce myself from reading anymore - otherwise i'd probably get fired frommy job :-() I started one yesterday, Feather In the Wind, and i finished itlate last night, i just couldn't put it down! I've read other romancenovels, all sorts of mushy-gushy, lovey-dovey types, but Madeline Bakerdoesn't even compare!!!Ms. Baker puts history along with the romance intoher novels - that's one of the best things i love about her writing. Itused to be V.C. Andrews that i searched out for, but it has definitelyturned its way around to Madeline Baker!! If you love history, romance, and indians - you'll love ALL of her books!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book!
I loved the book so much.I cried, I laughed. The ending is the best.Madaline Baker is Queen of Indian Romance books.I loved The Angel & The Outlaw.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, fantastic!!A MUST READ!!!!
I love outlaw heros, I mean true outlaw's, none of this revenge themes orundercover cops.I want a true outlaw who doesn't mind stealing for hisown gain.J.T. Cutter is that sort of outlaw, he's a card sharp and whenthe cards aren't going his way he cheats. He doesn't mind stealing either, which eventually gets him hung.Heaven doesn't consider him Heavenmaterial(I wonder why) but they do consider him redemable.Of course aleopard doesn't change his spots over night.Kidnapping a woman, stealinga horse, and attempting to cheat on his first card game since getting hisrepreve isn't the best of starts. He starts changing gradually, of coursewith some presuasion from his "gaurdian angel."Buy this bookright now, I guarentee you won't be able to put it down!! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Another hit !!
I loved this one as much as the others ; before i pick him up i read the reviews ithought it was a different story ; now i'm very pleased i bought it !!
Shad and Loralee were in love from the beginning ; i had no pitty at all from Mike because he knew all along what he was getting into ; Loralee would never love him and she only married him because she was desperate !!
I was very pleased with the ending , Shad and Loralee should always be together with their son !!
If you really enjoy reading romance books and put REAL LOVE above all things in the world you will love this book as much as i did .

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good reading
This book was very good reading.Once I started to read it, it was very hard to put it down.I only read Indian Romance books and this one was very good.I've read her books before, she is a very good writer.

1-0 out of 5 stars TOO MUCH DESCRIPTIONS
First of all, I didn't like the long boring descriptions in Love Forevermore.I found myself skipping long paragraphs a lot throughout the book. And secondly, I found the heroine frustrating and sometimes annoying.I did not like the way the hero and heroine in the book committed adultery and I did not like the way the heroine treated her husband. She should've left her husband or divorced him instead of running around with someone else behind his back and therefore humiliating him.Her husband was a good man and shouldn't have been treated so unfairly.I sympathized with her husband more than the couple.Overall, I found the heroine selfish and lacking in common sense.

5-0 out of 5 stars I couldn't put the book down!!!
It is definitely a must read! The hero and heroine is captured very realistically during the times when the Indians and Whites are not suppose to mix.The physical hurt that Shad has to endure for Loralee really takesmy breath away. The suffering that both of them went through just to betogether in the end......it really shows REAL love.If you haven't readit.....GO AND GET IT!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars There is a series to read first.....
You cant go out of order with this series, because you would have missed out on all the great beginnings that set the "flow" for the books that come after it. Please readers: know that in order for a series to be great, there must be a GREAT BEGINNING to make a GREAT ENDING.

2-0 out of 5 stars Did not enjoy this book at all
I did not read the first book in this series and after reading this one i don't plan to. It was told in first person by someone Other then the characters described on the back of the book. There was very little in this book actually about Mary and Cloud Walker. It was mostly about Hannah and Shadow. I do not like books writen in the first person and this just shows why. The book goes back and forth between Hannah and Shadow, Hawk and Valarie, and Mary and Cloud Walker. This story had potential. and this is the only book by Madeline Baker that I do not like.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
Being the third novel in the series, Hannah and Shadow are now watching their children grow. I found myself back in their lives again. If you've read Reckless Love and Reckless Heart, you absolutely have to read RECKLESSDESIRE. You'll find yourself falling in love with Shadow all over again. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Unforgettable
One of the top books that I've ever read. And one of the most unforgettable.....

5-0 out of 5 stars My first .............and best!
This is the first romance novel I read, many years ago. I still count it as one of my favorites, along with the other 'Reckless' books. Hannah and Shadow are beautiful characters with a passionate and ever lasting love. There is a lot of description, but I think this takes us through Hannah's experience. She is the narrator of the story and she is learning all of this in order to be with the man she loves. We see how much information she has to assimilate in a very short amount of time.
I love this book and highly recommend it to everyone!

3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent story, totally over shadowed by unimportant detail
I believe the very best Indian romance novels are those that are based upon true historical fact. However, this book was fact overkill. The book is 476 pages, but it would have been much better with about 200 of those pages cut out.Way too much time is spent upon describing every single character in the story, including characters whom have nothing to do with the actual story line.Page upon page of details about what the women's lives were like, what the children did with their days, how the men spent their time, blah, blah, blah......I skimmed through A LOT of these pages just so that I could finally get back to the actual story.
Another thing that bothered me was that, while the main couple (Hannah & Shadow)were separated, they each were with other people. Also, I could not get comfortable reading the story, because it is written in the first person.(From the point of view of the leading lady, Hannah.) This especially made the love scenes awkward, even though the loves scenes only consisted of a couple of sentences each.
When you skim past all of the wasted pages, and overlook the writing style, the core story is excellent. It is very believe and realistic to the way of life of the time.Madelinde Baker takes you on a journey that includes the battle of Little Big Horn, Rosebud River, and more.Everything is not flowery and beautiful. There are hard times a plenty. However, there are also happy times. The love scenes were brief and held no detail, but the passion between the couple was great. I like the leading lady, who has guts and even takes to fighting along side her Cheyenne husband.I loved the ending, as well.
All told, it was way longer than it should have been.Beautiful and haunting story.Too many wasted pages.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Way to Escape!
I loved this book! It's a great way to escape from personal problems and stresses. There is plenty of action, adventure and romance in this novel. I've read it at least 5 time since I got it! It is definately a great"bath tub" book.

1-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT a romance book!!!
This book was awful.I couldn't finish it, it made me sodisgusted.A woman in an agonizing, no win love affair with a violentman who makes continous bad choices. How could this woman love this man and give up everything for him?His stupidity brought her much pain and despair. It's a story of pain and suffering and I lost all respect for the warrior whose thirst for blood seemed to be more dominating than his love of this poor girl. There is no happiness in this book.None. Yuck Yuck Yuck. ... Read more

This was the first time travel romance I had ever read. After reading SPIRIT PATH, I was hooked. I love the western/native american influenced romances, and when a person from the here and now gets a chance to go backand be a part of history, well isn't that a fantasy we all have at one timeor another? Ms. Baker writes a wonderful absorbing tale. I read her booksany chance I get. Even when she's writing under Amanda Ashley and tellingvampire stories (which are also wonderful!) SPIRIT PATH is for any onewho has ever dreamed of another place and time. Madeline Baker pays NativeAmerica a respectful and beautiful homage and enlightens us to problemsstill faced today. When i started this book i just couldnt put it down. From the start you get hooked...It took me just under a day to read it. If you read Chase the wind you'll love this book as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Unforgetable
This is the most recent of Baker's books that I have read and yet again I was blown away. She gave a great background and history about the real life ghost town of Bodie. The characters of modern day Shaye and badboy from the past, Alejandro were great. The point that I got was love is timeless. I haven't read a book by Baker that I haven't liked and I've read quite a few. I like historical romance and to me this book was great example. I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn a few facts while reading for pleasure.

2-0 out of 5 stars Slightly disappointed reader
Madeline Baker is absolutely my favorite romance author and I was very eager to read Unforgettable. It's a time travel romance about a divorced woman named Shaye that travels back in time to the town of Bodie and falls in love with a gambler named Alejandro. I don't think it was a very romantic story and I learned much more than I wanted to about Bodie. It just wasn't as good as I thought it would be, but of course others are bound to disagree. Still, she is a good writer with a style of her own and I recommend A Feather in the Wind and Midnight Fire.

5-0 out of 5 stars EXCEPTIONAL! BAKER'S FINEST
Madeline Baker has written one of her finest novels yet! "UNFORGETABLE" is truly just that; the story of love and the characters are those you won't forget. The story is set in an actual ghost town of Bodie, California. Shaye Montgomery tours the ghost town and sees the ghost of Alejandro Valverde in the town jail, and he sees her. Shaye keeps returning and is finally transported to the 1880's boomtown where she meets the infamous Alejandro. Baker has added her own poetry"Time Passages"and "Ever After" to the beginning and end of the novel that gives a very special touch and meaning to the story. I just loved this time travel novel by Madeline Baker. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My firstMadeline Baker book but not the last!!
this was my first MB book book but definatly not the last. I loved Morgan even though he was a drunken Half-Breed and Carolyn, though very spoiled, was a wonderful character. Carolyn runs away from home and an aranged marriage only to find Morgan in an alley with a knife in his gut. She takes him to his home and helps him recover so they he will take her to he brother across the country and away from the marriage her father has set up. Along the way Morgan finds his dignity and most importantly he finds he is falling in love with "Carrie". They are captured by Indians and Morgan is given a chance to get away from the bottle and Make him self worthy of a woman's love. Carrie learns the there is more to life then parties and silk dresses as she falls in love with Morgan. She must convince him they they belong together before their families and unforseen dangers tear them apart.A truly inspiring book!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great!
I love romance Western style. This one is a great read.Sexy, fun and touching.Baker's work is way up there on my list of favorite romance authors, along with Brown, Howard and many others including my latest fun, sexy read "Anything, My Love" by Cynthia Simmons. These ones can keep you turning pages, and Baker always does.

5-0 out of 5 stars To cry for!
Midnight Fire was a fantastic book. Maybe it lacked a little more details but I must say it captivated me. It was warm and wise, with the character of Morgan who one could pity, and Carolyn who changed all that for him.Their rising love was indeed so "beautiful" and when the end ofthe book came, it was something. You must not skip this book! You won't besorry and I hope that you could feel the warmth and love those twocharacters found. Once they found the truth of their love, nothing couldever tear them apart, not even the ache of Morgan's heart where once hethought life so worthless, to die for. Madeline created a family that noone could ever thought it to become one whole, but eventually it did, andno one was sorry. So you won't be, too!

5-0 out of 5 stars INDIAN ROMANCE AT ITS BEST
Morgan is a bitter drunkard, a half - breed who feels that he has no reason left to live. That is, until he meets Carolyn, a runaway heiress, escaping from an arranged marriage. 3-0 out of 5 stars One story worth a re-read, the rest are just okay
From the back cover:

1) Loving Sarah by Madeline Baker: A white woman learns the true meaning of Christmas from the Apache brave who has opened her heart to love.

2) A Christmas Angel by Robin Lee Hatcher: A motherless little girl's wish for a Christmas angel comes true with the arrival of a beautiful stranger at her father's Idaho farm.

3) The Homecoming by Norah Hess: An innocent bride finds special joy in the Christmas homecoming of a husband who married her on the rebound, then marched away from their Kentucky homestead to fight for his country's independence.

4) The Greatest Gift of All by Connie Mason: A lonely young Colorado widow rediscovers the magic of love when her two children befriend a traveler who bears an uncanny resemblance to St. Nicholas.

And my review:

Madeline Baker's story was just okay. I've read a few of her works, and I've always felt the same thing. Fairly entertaining while you read them, but the characters just don't stay with you after you turn that final page. Three stars.

Robin Lee Hatcher's story was my favorite in the book, and one I've re-read a couple of times. Very sweet and innocent, with lovable characters, I found this story quite touching. There wasn't an element of this story that a didn't like. And Phoebe, the little girl, was a great character, not just a flat plot device, which I really liked. This story was the reason I kept this book. Five stars.

Norah Hess's story was certainly not what I expected it would be. From reading the back cover blurb, I thought it would be a story of reunited love, but it was not so, which made it an interesting read. The thing was, I found the heroine to be more than a little stupid, which really detracted from my enjoyment of the story. I think the reader is supposed to sympathize with her, but I had no sympathy for someone who made their own mess. Not only that, but she knew it was a stupid mistake while she was doing it, yet she barrelled ahead and did it anyway. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I wanted her to have more self-respect, and though she did have some in the end, it just didn't save the book for me. Also, I hated the hero's "I slept with her, but didn't court her, so it shouldn't bother you because it didn't mean anything" attitude. I am SO sick of the virgin woman with the slut man. One star.

Connie Mason's story was one that I had to force myself to finish. I could not like the heroine. She was just so bitter and mean to her children. She professed over and over to love her kids, but then she was always getting angry and yelling at them for just being children. Loving your kids means more than just taking care of their physical needs. Just because you're bitter doesn't mean your children can't enjoy a little magic. One star.

All together, a three star book. I would recommend trying to find this at a thrift or used-book store, as it's not worth buying it brand new, but Robin Lee Hatcher's story does make it worth owning.

2-0 out of 5 stars Two so-so stories, two really bad ones
From the back cover:

LOVING DEVLIN by Madeline Baker
For a half-breed Apache, love comes full circle as he witnesses the miracle of a Christmas birth, helping his woman bring forth her babe far from the comforts of civilization.

THE FOURTH GIFT by Elizabeth Chadwick
A determined woman struggles to rid herself of the Yankee partner who has brought out half her Arizona sheep ranch, but by Christmas morning the interloper has fulfilled the three wishes dearest to her heart, and given her a fourth gift she hardly dared hope for.

CHRISTMAS SURPRISE by Norah Hess
When a handsome stranger appears at her isolated farm looking for work, a lovelorn spinster finds the dark, dreary winter days become as bright and new as the Christmas surprise he brings her.

CHRISTMAS STAR by Connie Mason
Following her very own Christmas star through the wilds of Colonial Virginia, a beautiful orphan learns she had enough love to make three lonely people into a true family.

And my review:

Madeline Baker's story LOVING DEVLIN is actually a sequel to her novella LOVING SARAH, which was found in Leisure book's A FRONTIER CHRISTMAS collection. In this novella, the hero and heroine are already married and in love, awaiting the birth of their child. Like the first story, I didn't find this one all the captivating. The characters just never seemed very real or deep to me, and I found that I just didn't much care about what happened to them. They weren't awful or unlikeable, the just didn't grip me. And since they were already married and in love, there wasn't really much romantic tension to this story. Three stars.

I didn't get very far into Elizabeth Chadwick's THE FOURTH GIFT. It had a rather awkward, choppy feel to it, for one thing. The words just didn't flow together well. And I could not stand the heroine. She was such an annoying, abrasive harpy. I had no idea what the hero saw in her. Two stars.

Norah Hess' CHRISTMAS SURPRISE was probably the most enjoyable story in this collection. The author did a good job of portraying frontier life, and I liked watching these two misfits find love in each other. However, this wasn't a story you'd want to read over and over. It's good for a one-time read, and will give you a bit of holiday spirit, but it's nothing overly moving or memorable. Three stars.

Connie Mason's CHRISTMAS STAR was another story that I didn't finish. Neither the hero nor the heroine were likeable people. The hero was a bitter, twisted person, and the heroine a horrendous bigot. I can see why she might not like Indians, given that her family was killed by Indians, but to hate a child who's not even five years old merely because she's an Indian? That's despicable! The heroine's outlook probably changed by the end of the story, but her racist attitude quickly destroyed any liking I might have had for the heroine. And when you don't like either of the main characters, who really cares what happens to them? I didn't. One star.

Two of the stories in this book are okay for a one-time read, but neither of them is very stellar. Go ahead and buy this if you can find it at a garage sale or a thrift store. Otherwise, save your money for something better. See my list "Christmas romance books worth reading" for a list of my favorite picks.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not The Best!
A Wilderness Christmas: Discover the Old-Fashioned Joys if a Frontier Christmas is one of those short story romance anthologies that have several short romance stories by several different romance book novelists and this book was okay but not great. Some of the stories were good but there were some that were terrible. The best story was Christmas Surprise by Norah Hess. In this story a young woman named Jassy Jeffers is trying to keep her farm going and gets help from a drifter named Luke Slater. He saves her from a band of outlaws and winds up staying and helping her out on her farm and they fall in love. The story Christmas Star by Connie Maon was good, I liked the hero Jedidiah Wells (Jed) and I liked his adopted Native American daughter Star but I had a hard time warming up to the heroine Charity Marlowe because I didn't like how she treated Star and was annoyed at her reactions to her. I mean, I felt like saying, oh, she's a child, you are an adult, just grow up and stop being so rude and bigoted! The worst story was The Fourth Gift by Elizabeth Chadwick. I liked the hero Jonathan Forrester but I found the heroine Merrill Fox to be very weird! The Fourth Gift is about a weird spinster who is upset that she has a new business partner and half owner of her house and I just found her to be very weird. She was harsh, abrasive, rude and bigoted. I Just can't like an ignorant heroine who makes bigoted racist comments.

4-0 out of 5 stars a wonderfuly good read
I loved this book. I like Iron Wing and Katy. Such wonderful characters. I didn't like Iron Wing at first but as the book progressed I found his unwavering loyality to Katy a remarkable thing. Katy was a somewhat spoiled girl that found true love with the proud but kind hearted(after a time)Iron Wing. I did have a problem with Iron Wing whipping Katy in the begining of the book but after that the book was truly wonderful.(though if some one whipped me i would hate them not fall in love with them.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good
Love in the Wind was the very first romance novel that I ever read and it remains my favorite even now, years later! I found it very well written, and very emotionally provoking.
Love in the Wind is an old western historical romance. Katy is the woman at the center of the story. She was once an heiress to her parents' farm, but decided to become a nun when her fiance was killed by Indians. On her way to the convent, her coach is attacked by rebel Indians and she is the only one left alive, only to be found by a group of Cheyenne. She is taken back to their tribe and is given as a gift to their greatest warrior, Iron Wing, and thus the romance begins. It's true that Katy surely should have learned to hate Iron Wing as she many times proclaimed, but love never knows what it is SHOULD do anyway. Against all odds the two fall in love, and then must fight beyond what they had ever imagined to stay together.
Love and romance, humor and fun, horrifying and tear jerking, this book has everything. It is a truly good read.

4-0 out of 5 stars A BOOK TO LOVE AND HATE
It was hard to understand how Katy fell in love with Iron Wing. After allshe was "given to him" by his friend whom found her hiding in thecarriage that was attacked by another tribe. His punishments to her whenshe tried to escape or free prisoners would make anyone learn to hate him. However, once they found their feelings for each other (or should I sayKaty realized her own feelings toward Iron Wing since he already claimedher), they ended up with constant struggles to stay together. At timesKaty seemed spoiled and selfish, escpecially when she returned home and youwanted to shake her for this thoughtlessness really hard. But I wassurprised when she changed her tune in favor of Iron Wing.I consider anybook that can get you to react to it emotionally, whether it is good or bademotions, is well written, I did finish this book in only 1 1/2 days. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable!
I just re-read this book again, I love Madeline Baker's books. I read this book along time ago when it first came out. After reading other reviews about the book, I decided to re-read it and I did. I liked Caleb alot, I enjoyed the book in every way, except Callie, she was a little childish. Granted her mother was a whore, but that don't mean that you will be just like her. But anyway, the book was pretty good. I am still keeping the book so that in 5 years I can read it again.

4-0 out of 5 stars Cheyenne Surrender
This is a story about the half-breed Caleb Stryker and Callie, who was the daughter of Caleb's father's mistress. When the story starts out Callie comes to Caleb's house and asks for the money his father, Duncan, promised her mother before he died. Caleb refuses and thinks she's no better then a street tart. She slaps him, and the story goes on from there. Caleb finds out that the ranch he loves was left to Callie and her mother, who'd died months ago. He decides to marry Callie so that the ranch will become his. Only he asks her to marry him out of love, even tells her he loves her. When she finds out the ranch is hers, she's mad, and breaks off the engagement, but not before making love with Caleb one time. Even after that one time she freaks out and runs away, even though Caleb tried to convince her they were going to be married anyway. This sets off a series of events that cause many consequences.

I didn't like Callie at all. I mean, I know this book is set in the 1800s, and that sex before marriage was considered a sin, but she was too worried about becoming like her mother. Over and over in the book she kicks, screams, slaps, etc at Caleb when he kisses her, and tells him over and over that she doesn't want to end up like her mother. It was like a litany. She had to say it every other page. It drove me nuts. I had to skim over several pages because she was being a brat. And even after she found out he still loved her, she never trusted him until the last thirty pages or so when she finally has the baby. Although part of that distrust was the result of Angela, Caleb's childhood friend, who also becomes pregnant, and tells Callie it's Caleb's!

This was a book that only deserves 4 stars because it is a book with another stupid heroine. And I'm only being so generous because I loved Caleb. He was a VERY sexy hero.

This is a must read book! I loved the characters Katy and Iron Wing. The hardship that these two have to overcome from their own prejudices and that of others, but the love that begins is overwhelming. The characters andthat in which they endure are memorable and livable.I cried for theirhardship and smiled on their happiness.
