5-0 out of 5 stars Now I'm sold out!
This book reminds us what handing our heart to Jesus is all about. I felt compelled, motivated, inspired, and excited reading this book. The same Stephen Baldwin humor and energy with the power of Jesus seeping through the pages! You can be hard-core, radical, and edgy and it is encouraged! This is what discipleship is all about! Relevant and REAL.

5-0 out of 5 stars totally recommend it
This book is a really great read. Funny, inspiring, hard hitting, Stephen Baldwin talks about his life in hollywood, doing and having it all yet still finding something missing.
After a brief encounter with God in a journey out of substance abuse, he eventually came to faith years later after his wife became a christian. His story, and willingness once he found God, to lay down everything for him is as unique as it is inspirational.
A really interesting, honest and well written account of a man who had it all but was still willing to lose it all for something greater.

This book I borrowed from the library and my daughter who is 15 years old asked me to purchase it.She wanted toshare it with friends and underline all the great points that the author makes. She even read some passages in the book that really blessed her.

I couldn't put this book down!Steven Baldwin is funny, humble, real, inspiring and contagious concerning his faith!I will recommend this to everyone!

4-0 out of 5 stars typical
I started this book with an intense curiosity to see just what type of faith this man would be talking about.Certainly we can see that Mr. Baldwin is living a much better life since he adopted Christianity! There is no doubt about that.

But where he falls short is when he starts trying to preach and convert others. His claim that only his God is the right one, and his belief in a literal interpretation of the Bible point to the fact that he can only address the lower ends of the belief spectrum: the Stage ones (see my blog: BeliefStagesandGrowth.com for explanation) who are as yet totally unprincipled and need to adopt that type of religion to make their lives work and the Stage Twos who have already adopted his same type of Christianity and are happy to find their own beliefs substantiated by his.

Certainly, Mr. Baldwin's ministry is of great benefit to the Stage Ones of the world.I wish him much luck in converting all of them! But I do wish there were more understanding in the world that other forms of belief (including that held by many more advanced Christians - Stage Fours) that hold validity as well.Mr. Baldwin makes the mistake of assuming all the world either follows his religion, (called Stage twos on my blog: BeliefStagesandGrowth.com) or lives a totally unprincipled life filled with the chaos of his own pre-Christian experience. (called Stage one on my blog) He seems to try to refute the objections some of the upper level believers might offer (i.e. a God of love would never send anyone to hell,) but he does so in a typically Stage two way - with short, pat answers that come from the bible and are based simply on blind faith.

The only trouble with promoting this simplistic belief system as being the final word is that it discourages the possiblity of questioning and growth to one of the more mature forms (http://beliefstagesandgrowth.com/blog/2007/07/29/walter-clarks-criteria-for-a-mature-religion/)that people might be able to achieve, were the less mature form not being touted in such a pat way by people like Mr. Baldwin. ... Book Description
Playing a bit off The Usual Suspects, the most successful of his more than 60 movies, Stephen reveals his unbelievable change from a hardcore party boy to a hardcore follower of Jesus Christ. Of all the people who have expressed disbelief about his conversion, Stephen says he remains the most surprised. He describes "hardcore faith" as the willingness to put your life and future completely in the hands of the invisible God, obeying His direction to the death. His life has been completely transformed - and we get the behind-the-scenes look at how that transformation has impacted his life inside and out.Stephen brazenly relays his observations about the culture at large and the work of the Church in it. He believes that the exposure of the Gospel must be ramped up and the way it is expressed must be changed as the culture changes. He is just as emphatic, however, that as ministry flexes with the times, it must remain true to the power and transcendent truth of the Gospel. The core of his message: "You must be willing to try faith God's way, not yours, and when you do you will find a life beyond anything you could have dreamed." ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Thanks Stephen Baldwin!!
I'm going to keep this really short and would like to thank Mr. Baldwin for writing such an inspirational book.I found this book to be challenging as well as encouraging to desire God more. Thanks so much Stephen.

And,
I really want the readers to really think about what he says in this book. I really seriously think you should ponder and consider alot of what he says. Don't expect to be life-changed when reading the book.
God is in control of that.

5-0 out of 5 stars I found Baldwin's "tell it like it is" style refreshing and genuine
Over the years, I've been a bit skeptical about celebrities who become Christians and actively proclaim their faith in Jesus. I took this type of "show me it's true" attitude as I began reading Stephen Baldwin's book with the subtitle, "My Calling to the New Hardcore Movement of Faith." I have seen a few of his films and am familiar with his acting brothers.

Page by page, this book wins over the skeptics, and the reality of Baldwin's genuine Christian experience rings true through these chapters. We learn about the youngest Baldwin brother, who was raised in a middle-class Irish Catholic family in Massapequa, New York. In the opening chapter, Baldwin talks about the depth of his chasing celebrity and a story about seeing Robert Downey, Jr. at the Playboy Mansion. Downey leads Baldwin to a beautiful wine cellar where four playmates are smoking pot. Since Baldwin had stopped drinking several years earlier, he saw the meaninglessness of the situation and left.

Describing his life as blessed and lucky, Baldwin sheds light on his acting career and how it's given him a platform to talk to American youth --- and actually have them listen. Ironically, most teens recognize him from Bio-Dome, a film that the critics hated. As he writes, "God had me make this film to give me the platform that would later become my life's work. At the time, I just wanted to goof off with Pauly Shore for a couple of months. God knew that, and He also knew the plans He had for my life, plans He made sure came to pass."

Baldwin's faith story is told in detail. His wife, Kennya, hires Augusta, a Brazilian housekeeper who only speaks Portuguese. Since Kennya is from Brazil, she can communicate with Augusta. But the housekeeper has one minor quirk: she walks around the house singing about Jesus. Because of Augusta, Baldwin's wife begins to read her Bible and occasionally attend some Bible studies. During a year of prayer for her husband, Kennya shows him Jesus; ultimately, during the ninth and twelfth months, he begins to listen.

Baldwin describes his journey to grow in his faith and give control to Jesus. The Unusual Suspect covers the basics of faith for a new believer from Baldwin's perspective. His stories are unconventional, and his insights about the centrality of the Bible, the importance of prayer and the reality of love for the lost have a freshness that will resonate with many people.

Throughout the book, Bible verses are woven into the text in an appropriate and non-preachy manner. My skepticism turned to enthusiasm as I read about Baldwin's experiences combined with the skilled storytelling from writer Mark Tabb. Baldwin has had a true encounter with Jesus and is out to change his world. He doesn't claim to have all the answers, but he clearly understands that the love of God has to be balanced with the fear of God's pending wrath. Toward the end of the book, Baldwin includes some words that may startle the conservative crowd: "You can think all of this is a bunch of crap. That's your right. You can slam this book shut and say I don't know what I'm talking about. You can say that the God of love you believe in would never send anyone to hell. You can take that chance if you want. But keep this in mind: A day of judgment is coming. Don't blame me when the lever is pulled and you start falling toward hell."

I found Baldwin's "tell it like it is" style refreshing and genuine. I wholeheartedly recommend The Unusual Suspect.

5-0 out of 5 stars Young at heart
Spirit Warriors is an excellent Christian comic book for ANYONE who is young at heart and for everyone who enjoys old-fashioned comic books.
Even though the book is Christian oriented, it can be enjoyed by anyone, irrespective of one's religion.
I'm already in my 40's and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Set in a fictitious, futuristic time in a city called "New City," one encounters the youngsters Mia, Nano, Faith, Jon, Davy and Hailey in their battle against the evil Elder Seiko and his accomplice Pastor Promise.
The drawings are very vivid in an old-fashioned comic book style and the story is easy to follow.
Totally recommendable for all ages!
Personally I cannot wait for book number 2!

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for Christians of all walks of life, not just those about to begin college.
Written by 2004 Gold Medallion finalist Mark Tabb, Own Your Faith: The Adventure of Following Christ in College is a guide for college students to the sticky problems of living out one's religious beliefs in an increasingly secular postmodern world. Chapters discuss learning to embrace faith in God through thinking for oneself, rather than simply accepting beliefs spoon-fed by others; the value of forming connections; preparing for "the inevitable storms that will confront your faith"; and much more. "The difference between being told what to think and learning how to think is the difference between a faith that is your own and one that is nothing more than an extension of those who programmed your mind. How can you tell which you have? You've already experienced the difference in your relationship with every math student's best friend, Bob, aka, Mr. Back of the Book. When brains lock up and an answer is nowhere to be found, Bob comes to the rescue... as long as the problem has an odd number." Highly recommended for Christians of all walks of life, not just those about to begin college.

5-0 out of 5 stars Choosing God's Best for Your Life
Are you expecting short term results or is your focus on eternity? Luis Palau challenges us to look beyond short term "fixes" and instead focus on living a God-driven life. In ten chapters Palau and his co-author Steven Halliday guide you through making decisions between "life's good" and "God's best". Will you choose pleasure, or happiness? Sex or love? Relief or peace? Activity or significance? Through personal stories from both Palau's life and the lives of many people he's touched through his festivals he illustrates the trade-offs in each choice. At the beginning of each chapter there's a bulleted list comparing the two options. For example in chapter 1 "A Festival in Your Heart" the choice is between pleasure and happiness and the bullets under pleasure are: external, sensory, fleeting, solitary, limited capacity. The bullets under happiness are: "internal, wholistic (sic), enduring, shared, and boundless capacity. The rest of each chapter goes on to give examples of each way of life and at the end of every chapter is a list of main points with references to specific verses in the Bible. If you've been feeling restless and wanting to know more about living a God-driven life, this book gives good examples of what that means. Palau writes in an engaging fashion and his passion for bringing as many people to the Lord as possible leaps from almost every page. If you've ever seen him speak, you can almost hear his voice in your head as you read. I'm sure this book will be picked up by many Christians, I'd like to suggest that it would make a great read for seekers as well. ... Read more

Book Description
Membrane Transport is targeted towards researchers with an interest in the mechanism of solute transport across biological membranes. Its scope is broad, ranging from the techniques required to study transport itself, through the expression, purification and reconstitution of transporters, to techniques for investigation of their structures. As such, it not only proves the necessary technical grounding for newcomers to the field, but should also be of value to "old-hands" wishing to get up to date with recent developments in these areas. While some of the approaches described require sophisticated equipment (e.g. a stopped-flow fluorimeter), most of the protocols can be implemented in any well- found laboratory.Preparation of this volume comes at a time when a result of genome sequencing our knowledge of membrane transporter sequences is far outstripping our understanding of their molecular mechanisms. Our hope is that this book will help future researchers to redress this imbalance. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars National Theatre Of The Deaf (NTD)
If you are interested in learning about Deaf culture and entertainment, this is a book well worth your while. It is filled with information as to how the NTD came to be, who the founding members were (as well as members beyond that time), what plays were performed up until the writing of the book. There are some photographs as well.

A good bok with good information, but not the most exciting read you'll find. It's also not up to date, but it gives you a good idea. Recommended by this deafie. :v)
