Enlightenmentfor the Dianetics Reader
I have read Dianetics the Modern Science of Mental Health and then listened to this tape series. I have to say that in the process I learned a lot more about the mind and how it works. I prefer listening to Mr Hubbard speak.I personally found this data very enlightening and useful in understanding others.

Dianetics is P.T. Barnum-ized Abreaction therapy
If you're tired of being a chump for "DM's" cult, read the Ex Scientologists Message Board. There you'll find people who worked directly with Hubbard, as far back as 1950, Class 6, Class 8, and Class 12 auditors, and OT 7s and OT 8s.

Good as your second read in the Dianetics series
I would not recommend this as your first book if you are interested in Dianetics as a subject.It doesn't have the therapy details that Dianetics The Modern Science of Mental Health does, so it's not the best one to get your feet wet with.

However, once you have read Dianetics (or at least watched the new DVD), then this book is highly recommended.You will learn all of the research data and conceptual development that went into the evolution of Dianetics as a subject.It is really a fascinating subject, and after the length of Dianetics the Modern Science of Mental Health, this slim volume will be a breeze!

A FASCINATING BOOK!
I was amazed to realize that this book was written over 50 years ago!

Copies of Mr. Hubbard's manuscript had been copied and copied and copied - and was in the hands of hundreds of people before it was even published.

It grew in popularity over the years, and is still in use today as the technology is as true today as it was 50 years ago.

Some of the words were new to me, but there's a simple glossary at the back that I found very helpful. Mr. Hubbard explained in another of his books ("Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health") how some things have to have their own word to define them exactly so that they are not confused with other, similar things.

I hope you buy this book and enjoy it as I did.

This subject opens doors and possibilities where I thought none existed before.

A different perspective
This book was recommended to me ten years ago by a piano player in a bar-restaurant, and I finally bought it. It's not the typical piano lesson book. The author tries to explain music composition and means of playing to make interesting music, not just a recitation. The author assumes the reader can already play the piano or will practice enough to put the author's suggestions into action. Great tips if the reader wants to put forth the effort to follow them.

Easier than I thought
This book came recommended by a music educator and I'm so pleased with it.I love the the humor it contains along with the easy explanation of the music system.If I can grasp this, anybody can!It's making me more a complete musician.

Too clever by half
Overall a good work on learning to make and enjoy homemade music.The style of prose is dated and too flippant for my tastes.Buy it anyway and go for content rather than entertainment.

Just buy it and try it.
It came before I started any lessons at all and it was able to allow me to try some of the techniques in the early pages.
However, it should serve those with previous experience and fingering abilities better.
My beginner's piano lessons have interrupted me for now, so the review will wait to be edited.

Great Book
I think this is a great book, especially if you have some experience sight-reading music and taking lessons where you never learned any music theory (whichis my story). Other reviewers who claim that the book limits itself to a certain type of song or style are wrong, as this is a very basic overview of how music works, that can be applied to any music. It's not a "melody in one hand and chords in the other" approach either, as one reviewer complained, as it introduces all of the basic techniques that go into arranging a song - any song. One reviewer who stated that this book is for reference only was also wrong, as it's quite possible to play for years, as the title states, without understanding what you're playing. But this book explains music so that it's not just a "sea of notes" anymore, and so that you can arrange your own songs or play from fake books without relying only on reading sheet music note-for-note. People believe this?
This is just one of hundreds of reviews, so i'll keep it short.The book is really dry, and doesn't even make a decent argument.I have a feeling that many of these reviews are written by those who religiously follow Hubbard's work (Scientology).Otherwise, it would have undoubtedly been given a much lower rating!!!

Scientology is for weak minds.
I read this book to see what all the fuss was about regarding Scientology.This 'religion' is more retarded than all others combined. Good thing I only paid [...] for this book at Goodwill.

Don't waste your time.
I always wondered how people could take a fiction book and make a religion out of it and after reading this, I still don't get it.Anyone who looks at this book as anything other than fiction deserves their life ruined by these cult weirdos.Even with an open mind, this book is laughably bad.

Wow really?
Coming from a large library of Robbins, etc, I can honestly say that this book is horrible.The concepts and theories are ill-founded and extremist (though cleverly masked).This is also without the obvious issue of what this book funds and supports.DON'T BUY THIS BOOK and definitely DO NOT GIVE MONEY OR INFORMATION TO THIS ORGANIZATION.

My sister used to have this book on our family bookshelf. I read it once when I was young, and again recently. I still cannot find anything worthwhile here, not even in the sexy bits. Hubbard assumes that if he can make the reader think that he's more intelligent than they are, that they'll believe his pseudoscience without question.
