My GO TO Book...The New Testament of Ratios
I first got this book for Financial Statement Analysis college class....I recently bought the 3rd edition..It's mostly the same stuff but the case studies are newer..If you are into ratios and WHAT they mean..Then this book is the book!!...Pretty academic, number crunching stuff though....Not like reading Freakonomics or anything like that...This is an excellent reference book...Don;t let the negative ratings scare you...If you like ripping apart finacial statements..Then get this book..It has the ratio inside the front COVER for crying out loud!!;)

Thorough treatment of financial statement analysis
Stickney's book is not for beginners to the subject, as I believe many of those who have rated the book poorly have found.For those with some background in basic accounting however, it is indispensable.

Great book for FSA
I'm a rising second year MBA student at one of the prominent business schools. I used this book as one of the text books for FSA class after basic accounting and footnote accounting classes. This book is very useful in bringing the picture together to analyze and model a company. It is very practical. I have used it as a reference throughout my internship at an investment management firm.

I have read a few other books on security analysis and financial reporting. Most do a great job in discussing the individual topics but don't help in how to apply them in building a model. This book assumes that you know your accounting basics as well as in depth knowledge of certain accounting topics e.g. Revenue recognition issues, securitization, etc. This book does a great job in going through the steps when your boss asks you to analyze a company, prepare its model and do a pro-forma.

The authors used the real world example of a complicated company (Pepsi) to demonstrate the FSA steps. This was invaluable.

The only reason I gave this book a 4 star is that I'd like to have seen a better job on Industry Analysis. But, nevertheless, it is a very useful book.

This is definitely not for hobbyist. As the expensive price indicates, the authors are targetting this book towards business school students who, because of already high 100+k opportunity cost of attending b-school, would not balk at paying a hefty sum to fill in a definite gap amongst FSA books. This book fills that gap well.

Don't judge this book by its cover!Not for beginners, but definitely for the future accounting professionals
This is a very highly detailed accounting book.It is definitely not designed for novices. If you already have a good beginning foundation in accounting, this book is an excellent sequel to help you better fine tune and master those accounting skills!

Excellent Treatment of Financial Statement Analysis
I bought this book for my MBA financial stmt analysis class despite a couple of negative reviews here on amazon.I'm glad I did. Contrary to what some have said I found the book to be very well organized - I read it straight through, and now I use it as a reference.It provides a great overview of of statement analysis and does a great job of examining the accounting theory that goes into those statements.This book is definately not for someone who hasn't had any accounting courses previously though - it assumes some level of understanding of basic accounting concepts, which may explain why a couple of the reviewers found it confusing.This is not for you if you are an "investment hobbyist" without much prior accounting.If you're looking to go beyond the basics of debits and credits and need to develop a better understanding of financial statements, this will do it for you.The only thing I would like to have seen is some of the more advanced topics addressed since that seems to be lacking in all fin stmt analysis books out there, but I suppose the book is long enough as it is at 1100 pages! ... Capturing the apprehension, hopes and fears of D-Day in the words of its participants
There is much value in preserving the words of past generations, and of veterans in particular. The things they experienced are crucial to remember, and having those remembrances in their own words, with their own unique cadences and figures of speech, preserves these memories in the way they were originally remembered, and so any such exercise is of great value. "War Stories of D-Day" collects 41 first-person accounts of American veterans during the invasion of Normandy and gives an overview of the wide variety of conditions soldiers, sailors and airmen found themselves in on the "Day of Days." The initial images one might have of D-Day are of troops under fire at Omaha Beach, the Rangers at Point du Hoc, or of paratroopers falling through the darkness into combat, and those stories are certainly here, but there are others: glider pilots, Coast Guardsmen driving landing craft to the beach, support personnel, tankers and others. Together, these accounts illustrate just how massive, confusing and at the same time personal participation in such a massive operation must have been.

There are a few things that could have been better. There's very little stage set before jumping off into the stories; only a brief four-page introduction explains the operation, so a working knowledge of Operation Overlord's various components would be useful. The introduction of the speakers all too often omits important details, like the rank of the speaker or the unit he belonged to. The responsibilities of an officer and the responsibilities of a private would have been very different, and leaving out this information makes it hard to put some of the soldiers' actions into context. The coverage of the air support aspect of the battle is cursory at best. Perhaps worst of all, in some cases, veterans' mistakenly give numbers and "facts" about the battle which are incorrect, and the authors allow them to go in without correction or notations. That's a major hazard of first-person histories and one that should have been caught.

That said, the unvarnished accounts of the paratroopers, landing troops and men at sea are affecting and provide a real indication of the stresses and mindset of the men who landed at Normandy. If you want a book about what went on at Normandy, look elsewhere, but if you want a book about how it felt to be there, then this one's for you.

I bought "James Beard's New Fish Cookery" to replace the mass-market paperback copy of "James Beard's Fish Cookery" (copyright 1954). I'd had the book 20 years or longer, and it was in tatters. In fact, I'd lost a couple of pages containing favorite recipes
This is an excellent old-style cookbook. There are no glossy photos or trendy recipes. But if you're looking for a simple and delicious recipe for oyster stew or the lowdown on crab cakes you can't go wrong with this book. Most of the recipes are pretty simple, which isn't to say there aren't recipes for elegant dishes. (Check out Trout Amandine, in the Manner of Restaurant Casenave in Paris on page 336.)
If you need a basic fish cookbook, I don't think you can do better than this one. After all, it is by James Beard.James Beard's New Fish Cookery ... Read more

Powerful
The book is also titled "Giant of the Lord - Life of a Pioneer".
This is an interesting history of a man who was a member of the Mormon Battalion that took them to California.He was one of the men present when GOLD was discovered at Sutter's Mill and he and others present panned for the precious mettle before the word spread throughout the world.

Very enjoyable light reading
This autobiography is well worth the time to read.Bruce Bruce writes about his life and the people who most influenced him: his mother and uncle among others.The content is light hearted and funny; the CD included is of a live performance, which gives the reader exposure to his comic act. The only complaint, that I find very annoying, is bleeping out certain words of the concert CD.

Thoroughly enjoyed Bruce Bruce's autobiography. A reccommended read for all ages.. keeps you smiling and thinking at the same time. A real page turner!!.. very entertaining!

Warm-hearted book
Bruce Bruce is living out his dream, and this book provides information on how he came to be a successful comedian. The best thing about the book is seeing how Bruce Bruce maintains a strong sense of family and values. He is grateful for his blessings and that's a wonderful quality.
