Product Description
The "Making Of" book for Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas is getting a new cover treatment - with a bright shiny Halloween glow and eye-catching title treatment.

On screen, Jack Skellington leaps with joy, singing with wonder at his discovery of Christmas Town. He seems so real, so alive, that we believe both and his fantastical world must somehow exist.

But in reality it is not Jack who is the star of the show; it is the over 140 artists and technicians who spent more than two years bringing Jack and all his cohorts to life on the screen.  Every gesture Jack makes was created by a human hand, by an animator who moved the puppet in tiny increments from frame to frame. Every character, every set, every prop—even the candy canes—had to be designed and then actually fabricated by someone. This book tells the true story of the film, highlighting the art and the vision that make the movie so memorable. Also included are the complete lyrics to the film.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have
If you like tim burton's art and stop motion, this is a book you must have

4-0 out of 5 stars Great approach for the designing process
It's really great to actually learn what it takes to develop such an innovative movie; not only the poem idea but the construction of the main characters and scenography. Though the delivery wasn't the best and it took far more timming that expected, the received book fully fullfilled my expectations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Un libro lleno de magia y conceptos del film

First I have to say that I can't believe there aren't reviews listed yet for this amazing book. Worth every penny. It's quite heavy too. I quickly flipped through the book first to see what art was actually inside and then I went back to actually read what was written. You won't be disappointed. I loved all the personal touches to the book. There are quite a few pull-outs to view. I bought the standard edition and I'm curious what the deluxe edition entailed. I am a huge Nightmare Before Christmas fan and I would have liked to have seen more "Sally" art but this book has a bit of everything for all the Burton fans out there. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Burton delight.
Tim Burton's book "The Melkancholy Death of Oyster Boy and Other Stories" and the range of "Tragic Toys" derived from it demonstrate the wider imagination that make his feature films so unique.
This item is a stationary set featuring artwork from "Oyster Boy" - specifically focusing on "Stick Boy and Match Girl in Love" poem. The set also includes two of the Tragic Toys - Stick Boy and Match Girl. I is all cleverly packaged in a large Burtonesque match=box.
. This is fun and a must for Burton completists.

5-0 out of 5 stars Super!
Oh my gosh!My daughter loves Tim Burton and when I saw this set, I had to get it for her for Christmas. It is very unique and a must for Burton addicts.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of Burton!
I purchased this set for a friend and She loved it! It looks great out of the box and the figures are great! I love it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great product if you don't plan to use
I love my Stick Boy and Match Girl figurines that come with this set, but I ran into one little problem when I was going to send one of the cards to a friend--the cards don't fit in their envelopes. With a little cramming, I finally got it in there, but it was bow-shaped because the card was just a bit too large for the tiny envelope. This is a unique and fun product, but I don't recommend it if you are actually planning to use the cards.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Cool Gift
I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend. She is into odd art and objects and this was just the thing. She has read Tim Burton's book, but enjoys his art work more than the stories, thus I felt like this would be a good gift. Nicely packaged and even cooler out of the box. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Alice in Wonderland?
Don't be fooled, this //Alice in Wonderland// is not like that //Alice in Wonderland//. Though it is Disney, don't expect any cartooned heroine to pop up in the pages. This tale is based on the latest movie by morbid yet hilarious Tim Burton where Alice is a grown girl on the verge of marriage who escapes to Wonderland and discovers her power as a woman and as an individual in a sea of monotone sameness. More odd than magical, this extended story of Lewis Carol's beloved classic would befit anyone who enjoys all those "afterward" books (a newfound craving of people who are not satisfied with Mr. Darcy simply wedding Elizabeth Bennett and so on); or for anyone who would rather sink their teeth into a modern twist than on a memorable bite into the real deal.

5-0 out of 5 stars Better Than The Original!
I, a HUGE fan of Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, and Lewis Carrol. Could simply not wait for the movie to come out, so i rushed to the nearest bookstore, bought the the book, and read it in less than an hour. I found the book much better than the original. I have read it at least 50 times this year and plan on reading it again. A great book for young readers who are looking for adventure, and old readers who wish to venture back down the Rabbit Hole. I highly recommend it, now Fairfarren all, for I am late for tea.

5-0 out of 5 stars Falling through the rabbit hole and then through the looking glass.
If you're looking for a movie to book translation, this is it, there's very little difference between the two. So if you haven't seen the movie yet, don't read the book if you don't want to be spoiled. If you're suffering from with drawl from the movie, then get this book.

It's a rather fast read, I finished it in a few hours, but still loved every bit of it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
This was a wonderful book and I would suggest reading it.However, see the movie first and then read the book because the book follows the movie very closely except for a few small details. I was very happy I saw the movie first and then read the book.

This is definitely a book I can find myself as well as others reading more then once.Little kids even enjoy it.I read it to my children ages five and seven and they kept asking me to keep reading, that they couldn't wait to hear the next chapter. Great Book!

Product Description
Tim Burton (USA, b. 1958) is the youngest of Hollywood's most successful directors. He has the knack of making films with a very broad appeal, taking the silliness out of the representation of children, while remaining in touch with the child within himself and his audiences. Burton emerged as a director and storyteller after working as an animator for Disney. His meeting with Johnny Depp enabled him to give physical form to the heroes of his imaginary worlds, where fear is mixed with laughter, strange is normal and those who are not normal, such as "Edward Scissorhands" (1990), must be preserved. After "Beetlejuice" (1988) and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (2005), the resolutely boyish Burton, now in his fifties, presents his version of "Alice in Wonderland" (2010). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible Music!
After seeing the movie, my kids were very interested in getting the music. These arrangements are incredible. My daughter has been playing piano for 7 years and this music is just at her level. It is a bit difficult for my son who has had 5 years of piano. However, he is having a ball with the guitar chords, as he plays guitar too. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is at an advanced intermediate or advanced level of piano. It is a joy to listen to my kids play and sing from this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars If you have to have it...
I bought it because some of my younger (voice) students loved the movie and wanted to sing the songs.I never really got into the movie but I must admit the music is kinda nuts (in a good way).Sally's Song is beautiful, but for the most part, the music is too insane for me to play while teaching, so I think I'll look for a Karaoke CD somewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hard, but well worth it
This is one of the most awesome soundtrack sheet music books I've ever seen! All of the pieces sound like they do in the movie, and the grand staff notes are close enough to the original melody to sing along to. The key is hard to get used to, but once you do, it's amazing!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Danny Elfman is an incredible movie soundtrack composer
This book is a challenge even for the most experienced pianist. His music is fun and intricate and complex. I recommend this book for anyone who is not only a fan of the movie but a fan of excellent music who is looking for music that takes their knowledge of music theory to the max.

5-0 out of 5 stars absolutely amazing
I love all things tim burton, especially the soundtracks to his movies. danny elfman is possibly the most talented composer in hollywood and it baffles me that not all his music is sold as a piano vocal series, since it is so very suitable for just that. consequently I was thrilled to find this little book, and I was not disappointed. it is simple enough for a novice to play along based on the chords, and yet sophisticated enough for the more experienced pianist to get a lot out of the instrument. as has been noted elsewhere, the guitar chords are indeed systematically drawn every tim they occur, which to me is a fantastic idea. every tim burton/danny elfman fan who likes singing and playing the piano should own a copy of this!

the second I got my hands on it, I went directly to my piano and did not get up for the next four hours. that's how great it is to be your very own nightmare before christmas soundtrack! ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good For The Kids
This book was written for kids who enjoyed the remake of Planet of the Apes. Grown-ups will probably not enjoy it but it was not intended for grown-ups. The book is a nice effort for the kids. The mediocre script for the movie did not leave the author of the book with much to work with. It is nice to see that a new generation of Apes has begun and I welcome the effort of the author.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not the Planet of the Apes
This has everything to do with the recent movie and nothing to do with the real book. The real book had messages that were really lost in the recent film, it was close to a modern day Gulliver's Travels, raising questions about how we treat animals, our science and our society.

This will no doubt be fairly close to the recent film, which is okay hokum. Excepting the massive holes in the plot of the recent movie... How did horses arrive on the planet? Where were the non-chimps on the station etc?

5-0 out of 5 stars A beautifull Collector's piece.
This is a beautifull book about the 2001 version of Planet of the Apes directed by Tim Burton.

It is varied, with lots articles on many aspects of the film and richly illustrated througout with incredible film and "behind the camera" images. Additionally you will find the complete screenplay with related photos. All those elements combined make it an excpetional piece of film memorabilia.

Overall, this book does a great service to a movie that continues the great myth of "Planet of the Apes".

3-0 out of 5 stars Missed it by that much
I liked this book overall, and it was interesting to see the changes and deletions between te script and the finished film. The big problem I had was the omission of the ending scene in the screenplay, it just seems like a cop out to protect a secret that was already out at the time of the book's release A WEEK AFTER THE MOVIE CAME OUT. I wanted this book in hardback but for somereason it never came available, and I ended up settling for the paperback version. I have a feeling the Cinefex magazine covering Planet of the Apes will be much more informative for a lot less money.

3-0 out of 5 stars decent book, but ENDING IS MISSING
The copy of this book I have does NOT have the surprise ending that is in the film. I won't spoil the ending, but neither will this screenplay.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Visual Companion
As an artist and Tim Burton fan, I purchased this book with pure excitement. I have many other art companion books relating to Tim Burton movies, and I must say, this is one of my favorites. I love the behind-the-scenes look that the audience gets into the making of this amazing film. I also love seeing Burton's artwork that inspired his creations for this visually stunning film. I highly recommend this book to any Burton fan, artist, or film buff!

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, but missing a few things.
The book is put together really well. But as for pictures...there is a lot more film stills, than production drawings or detail oriented stuff. I would have loved more of that. But I still really like the book.....

5-0 out of 5 stars Stunning!
This book's an incredible labour of love, all film companion's should be as sumptuous, from concept artwork to high resolution film stills, filling 256 glorious pages, it's everything you could wish for and more.
Well worth the money, even the paper it's printed on is fine quality, just the kind of book that makes me even more vehemently against kindle's and other such devices, I hope to god we never come to reducing beautiful books like this, to puny little screens.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cinematic grea!t
Beautiful movie and wonderful art and direction went into it. If you loved the movie or just the look and mood it is a wonderful look inside the making of Alice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Capturing the Visual Wonder of the Movie
I love this book!!I absolutely adored the movie and wanted a true visual companion to study the images further.I loved the interviews with the actors...Tim Burton's introduction...commentary by LInda Woolverton who wrote the screenplay.

Loved reading about the creative direction and challenges of the movie...looking at the inspiring illustrations that preceded the final product...it's a heck of a great book and worth every penny.I find that I don't agree at all with the person who thought there wasn't enough information about the making of the movie. The entire movie was shot in the green room....and there is an entire section of the book devoted to that.

This is an absolute treasure...right down to the full copy of the oraculum that is printed on the reverse side of the dust jacket...fabulous!! ... Read more
