Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Hard Target is a 1993 American action film directed by Chinese director John Woo. The film stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as Chance Boudreaux, an out-of-work Cajun merchant seaman who saves a young woman, Natasha Binder (Yancy Butler), from a gang of thugs in New Orleans. Chance learns that Binder is searching for her missing father (Chuck Pfarrer), and agrees to aid Binder in her search. Boudreaux and Binder soon learn that Binder's father has died at the hands of wealthy sportsman Emil Fouchon who hunts homeless men as a form of recreation. Hard Target was John Woo's first American film and was also the first major Hollywood film made by a Chinese director. Universal Pictures was nervous on having Woo direct a feature, and sent in director Sam Raimi to look over the film's production and to take Woo's place as director if he were to fail. ... Product Description

When an elderly woman is found dead in the Arizona desert, it's easy enough to pin the killing on teens caught driving her car across the Mexican border. But Sheriff Joanna Brady isn't buying it. She is forced to put her personal life on hold to dig deeper into the murder and the lives of the wealthy victim's greedy offspring.
Amazon.com Review
J.A. Jance's Joanna Brady series whisks us off to a small town in the desert terrain of the Southwest. When Joanna's newly elected husband is killed while serving as sheriff of Cochise County, Arizona, Joanna steps into his position. We watch her grow into the job in Jance'sseries: she has to cope with the problems of juggling family and personallife while solving crimes. At the same time, we'velearned about the benefits and shortcomings of daily life in a desert--howbeautiful and dangerous the landscape can be in all seasons.

Jance's seventh book, Outlaw Mountain, begins with the death of anold woman who was injured when she fell on a poisonous cholla cactus. But it isn'tthe plant that finishes off Alice Rogers; the lively, free-spirited widowismurdered by someone who injects her as she lies writhing in pain. NowJoanna has to find out whether anyone in Alice's large family would have killed herfor her land and money. Was it her son Cletus, "a restaurateur with thediplomacy of a mountain goat," who was recently elected mayor of thelegendary Arizona town of Tombstone (where Wyatt Earp once reigned)? Ordidthe murder have something to do with a local political power struggle? Asshe has done so well before, Jance balances scenes full of action andexcitement with more intimate moments.--Dick Adler ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars #7 disappoints
#7 left me wanting, after thoroughly enjoying #6.Outlaw Mountain was too much too fast on Joanna's personal life. Too much w. Junior. Everything wraps up so awfully easily. Not equal to the satisfying complexity of the Sheriff Brady mysteries I've been thus far enjoying this Summer. I'm not crazy about the suddenly-there, perfect Butch or how quickly Joann's remarrying. It doesn't ring true.I'll go on to Devil's Claw and hope it's better.

5-0 out of 5 stars about Rattlesnake Crossing
I really enjoy J.A.Jance's writing style. When the murder in this book occurred, I didn't know if I should be horrified or laugh at the situation. It was a nearly hysterical moment in an otherwise gruesome event. The situation for Joanna Brady never got any less dire as the story continued. As always, J.A.Jance kept me turning pages well beyond the time that I should close the book and sleep.

1-0 out of 5 stars Love Joanna Brady
the standard characters are well maintained and well developed.Having lived in Arizona for 26 years, I can see the desert AND feel the heat.At the beginning there are three different murders, plus pregancy. It all works out and I can't wait for the next book.A good bedtime read.

3-0 out of 5 stars Layers of Shadow
A long time fan of Joanna Brady, Outlaw Mountain was a disappointment. Brutal murder, that is solved much to soon while Joanna's personal life takes center stage. Don't we all wish life were easy to deal with as Joanna finds happiness while gaining job confidence and respect of her colleagues.
Good light reading while waiting at the airport for a delayed flight, but not up to the complexity of the usual J.A. Jance mystery.

5-0 out of 5 stars Could Not Put It Down
Filled with suspense and twists and turns. I also enjoy the way in which Jance brings in the personal day to day life of the Brady and her family. Just enough soap opera without going over the edge. ... Read more

Product Description

Death has come to Bisbee, Arizona, and shattered the small desert town's fragile peace. A gun dealer has died violently, and his stock of high-powered weapons has been cleaned out. Suspicion falls upon an armed separatist at war with the federal government and the local law. Although Sheriff Joanna Brady suspects the solution is not so simple, the toll on her private life may be more than she can manage.
Amazon.com Review
Rattlesnake Crossing is J.A. Jance's sixth novel in the acclaimedJoanna Brady series (readers may also be familiar with her Seattle-basedJ.P. Beaumont series). Brady is no tough-talking V.I. Warshawski or KatColorado; her appeal lies in her willingness to admit that her CochiseCounty sheriff's uniform is often an uneasy fit.As the single mother of ayoung daughter, Brady is prey to the pain and loneliness that have resultedfrom her husband's brutal murder, and she struggles to prove to herself andothers that she is capable of bringing a cold-blooded killer to justice.

When Clyde Philips, a local gun dealer, dies violently, his stock ofhigh-powered assault weapons vanishes, and two sniper slayings follow soonafter, suspicion falls upon Alton Hosfield, an embittered rancher at oddswith the federal government, the environmentalists, and anyone else he seesas a threat to his isolation.Sheriff Brady, however, suspects that thesolution may lie elsewhere, and her investigation takes her into thebizarre practices of a local resort whose appeal is equal parts New Agespiritualism, Native American pantheism, and cold-blooded materialism.

Jance has a talent for weaving prosaic threads into a gripping mysterynarrative. As a result, Brady must--in addition to tracking a viciouskiller--cope with the impossibly high standards of her insufferablemother; the spiteful comments of Marliss Shackleford, an old high schoolrival and current gossip columnist for the Bisbee Bee; and somerather unexpected news from Butch Dixon, her would-be ardent suitor.Aswith earlier Brady mysteries, the domestic context provides a deliciouslyironic backdrop for the game of psychological cat-and-mouse being played inthe Arizona desert. --Kelly Flynn ... 4-0 out of 5 stars 6th installment kept me riveted
Thoroughly enjoyable!Jance steps up the game a bit with a series of brutal scalpings and murders.I enjoyed the continuity of the mystery thread and the personal development of Sheriff Brady's life. This is a well-wrought blend of characterization and plot.

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the better ones in the series
This is book 6 in the series of Sheriff Joanna Brady of Bisbee, AZ.Being familiar with the locale has given my husband and I a lot of enjoyment as we can visualize where they are in various crime scenes or chases. In this one, a serial killer is shooting and scalping victims, and a normally sleepy town is suddenly the epicenter of several gruesome deaths. Sheriff Brady is a capable, strong and likeable woman. Her blossoming relationship with Butch Dixon kicks up a notch as he sells his restaurant/bar in Phoenix and moves to Bisbee in hopes of escalating his relationship with Joanna, a widow who's husband was killed in the line of duty in book #1 Desert Heat.

This is a good series, characters are believable and likeable. Jance's style is clean, no graphically-detailed ugliness, sex or profanity, but yet emotionally draws the reader into the situations. Reading them in order is best, but not necessary as Jance gives a little background in each one, so if you are picking up one of hers for the first time you won't be lost. This one moved along at a good pace and was one of our favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rattlesnake Crossing
J.A. Jance has never written a bad book. This is one of the better ones. Her Joanna Brady series are the best..........

3-0 out of 5 stars A Killer is Loose
The idea of a serial killer on the loose has been done to death. The bodies are stacking up like cord wood and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight. RATTLESNAKE CROSSING gives fans the impression Ms. Jance was under contract obligations to meet a deadline and cranked out a pot boiler.
It didn't have the spark of expert craftsmanship that others of both of her series have exhibited. It is difficult to pin point what is missing except that both Joanna and her supporting characters seemed static. But as part of the series Jance is forgiven and we'll be back for more cases that involve a favorite lady sheriff.
Then maybe I'm just tired of killers who kill to kill after listening to the news on a daily basis.
