Book Description

Since his Oscar-winning performance in Leaving Las Vegas, Nicholas Cage has become one of the most high-profile stars of contemporary cinema. Yet despite all the media attention, Cage remains one of Hollywood’s most inscrutable stars; in fact, his real life is as curious as some of the characters he plays. This new book follows the actor’s life and appraises his career, including his roles in cult movies like Raising Arizona and Wild at Heart, his oddball leading-man parts in films like Moonstruck, and his incarnation as action hero in Con Air and Face/Off. Complete with photos and a filmography, this is a must-read for Nicolas Cage’s many fans.

1-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new here
Other than a very few of the pictures, there is nothing here that's not already known on the web and in the news. I can't seem to think of any redeeming characteristic. well... I mean, it's not full of mistakes or typos. It's not badly written. It's not unfriendly nor overly patronizing but just not a good read for this Nick Cage fan. I read a lot and I know what I like. Perhaps someone else would enjoy it. I may be too demanding. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a great-great book with detail information
I like it, there's a lot of information about him,i feel i know him for a long time.

2-0 out of 5 stars Poorly written bio of a top actor
Nick Cage is much to fine an actor to have such a hack job done. The author mainly pieced together articles from Vanity Fair and American Film Quarterly- with some quotes from Cage. The style is pedestrian-trite and awkward. It also has an incomplete filmography- neglected the film Time To Kill that he made in Italy.

1-0 out of 5 stars Uncaged is a hack job-this actor deserved better!
I have seen every Nick Cage movie, and did extensive research before I wrote a paper on him for a fine arts class. Douglas Thompson should be ashamed of his terrible writing- it is cliche ridden, and full of trite observances. I recognized most of his quotes coming from the articles in G.Q. Film Quarterly and Vanity Fair. Cage is much too complex a person, and much too fine an actor to have this hack job to represent him.The author doesn't even have a complete filmography- left out a short Lynch and a Tempo di uccidere(1990)which he made in Italy The avid Cage fan will be disappointed- only for those who know nothing about him.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very interesting and informative.
The book covers various times in his life.It gives other's reactions to this wonderful actor. I feel I would read it more than once. The only way it could have been better is to include more photos. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Nicolas Cage - An Aussies view
As a new admirer of N. Cage (Coppola)I found the book a great read. I was, however, disappointed by the lack of personal details. It also seems apparent that the author has not yet met with Nicolas to gain some true insight into the man and his thoughts. A good start for anyone like me wanting to know the basics.

1-0 out of 5 stars nicolas <<gage>>
i personally think that there should be a little bit more information on real authors like Nicolas Gage, who was a very influential writer who has written books such as The Mafia is not an Equal Opportunity Employer andReflections of Greece. Both books were recieved very well in the literaryworld, unlike Nicolas Cage's book.

This author must have actually talked to Mr. Cage and done some research. It is a much better book than Uncaged... and there are lots of details.Again, the only problem is the author neglected to mentionTiempo diUciddere- a film Cage made in 1989.Besides that this is an indepth lookat a very complicated man.... and a good actor. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars "Windtalkers"..Important But Longwinded Film
This review refers to "Windtalkers" Full frame DVD edition(MGM)...

There are several editions of the film "Windtalkers" available. I wanted to make sure I was reviewing the DVD that I viewed and when I entered the ISBN from the back of the case, this book site is where it took me. This is NOT a book edition, as Amazon has it listed at this time, this is the Full-frame DVD edition. ISBN 0792853784.Even the outside merchants have it listed as a DVD. I have filled out the forms to let Amazon know, and hopefully they will eventually add it to the DVD list for sale. If you are interested in the story of the Navajo Windtalkers, there are several books available on the subject as well.

That being said, here is a little about the film itself. Nicolas Cage plays Joe Enders a wounded Marine, soul survivor of 15 men fighting a battle during WWII. He is a Marine through and through. He wants to get back to battle and even fakes his wellness to be released from the hospital. Still feeling the sting of the guilt by the loss of his men, he is given a new assignment. To protect and guard with his own life, that of a Navajo soldier. One of an exceptional group, that has been intensely trained in the art of wartime code. Ben Yahzee is considered THE Code, and must be protected at all costs, never to fall into the hands of the Japanese.

Enders is unhappy with this assignment, but he lives by a code as well... To Do Or Die. Although resentful of the "babysitting" job, he obeys his orders to the fullest. Putting himself in harm's way to protect "the code". Yahzee does his job of decoding and does it well, but must endure physical abuse and racial slurs from some of the other soldiers. As Enders sees the importance of Yahzee's existence to the war, and gets to know him as a person, he begins to warm to him and eventually holds him in the highest esteem.

I love War films, especially WWII films, and most especially, those based on actual events. I have viewed this film twice over the last few years, and twice it lost me a little over halfway through the 2 hours and 15 minutes of it. The story, Directed by action great John Woo, is an important one to American History and one that makes us aware of the very integral part the "Windtalkers" played in the war. Probably saving hundreds of lives by their own heroic actions. I just felt it took too long to tell the story. The script did not allow me to feel about the characters the same way I did, say, for the soldiers in Saving Private Ryan, that had to protect Ryan with their own lives. The action sequences were great, but there was so much of it, it was hard to warm to the personal stories.

If you have already seen this film and liked it more then me, I can tell you that the DVD is an excellent quality. Clear picture and fabulous color. The sound in DD5.1 Surround is outstanding. The sounds of war are going on all around you. It may also be viewed in French(surround) and Spanish(5.1) and has subtitles in Eng, Fr and Sp. Not much on the special features, some DVD production credits, and trailers. Some storyline on the real "Windtalkers" would have been a nice feature. But as I said, there are several books on the subject.

Probably a good rental for war buffs or just to see what the "Windtalkers" were all about, but may not stand up to repeated viewings.......Laurie

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
When I purchased this and the Treasury of Fables CD, I had never heard of Rabbit Ears Productions. I listened to Davy Crockett on the way home & couldn't wait to play it for my son (He was 3yrs). He begs to listen to these stories every time we get in the car(Now he's 5yrs). I'm getting at least 2 more Treasury collections for Christmas this year. Thank you Rabbit Ears!

4-0 out of 5 stars Rabbit Ears Treasury of Tall Tales Volume I
Thia is was very enjoyable and easy to listen to. I would feel amyone no mater their age would enjoy this listening to this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy on the ears for the whole family
I purchased this for my daughter's fifth birthday and was very pleased with this collection.
Things I liked about Rabbit Ears Treasury of American Tall Tales:
1. Garrison Keillor has an amazing reading ability. He is easy for everyone to listen to.
2. Each story was backed by original music, written to enhance the mood of the story. It was well played and enjoyable.
3. Almost all of the tales were enjoyed by everyone in my family.
4.Each was an appropriate amount of time (approximately 30 minute per story) to hold interest and provide detail.
5.We have listened to the stories over and over, and no one is tired of them yet!
6.The vocabulary is not dumbed down, but understandable in context.

Things I didn't like:
1.Rip Van Winkle was a bit scary to my five year old.The ghosts' decision to sabotage Rip's future with his family really bothered her a great deal.

2. Occasionally the audio became difficult to hear.Repeat listenings and cranking the sound during quiet moments helped, but shouldn't have been necessary.

3.The bit about Johnny Appleseed believing he will have three angel brides in heaven if he remains pure on earth just kept bringing my mind back to the 9/11 sickos who believed killing innocents would mean they would get virgins in heaven. That's my own personal connection, so it shouldn't be troublesome to kids listening to the story (though adults reading this might feel squeamish after seeing this connection.Sorry.)

This is great for car trips, and a real entertainment bargain.Overall, I would recommend this CD and would buy more Rabbit Ears audio cds in the future. ... Read more
