Product Description
JUST ANOTHER NIGHT IN SIN CITY

Candace Steele is as tough as she is alluring. For her, killing vampires isn’t just a job–it’s personal: She’s still haunted by erotic memories of an all-consuming affair with Ash, a seductive vampire who thrilled her–and then nearly destroyed her. Now, working undercover in a Las Vegas casino, she seduces the most powerful undead–right before she drives a stake through their unbeating hearts.

When hot-ticket singer Temptation McCoy sweeps into town for a major concert, Candace is tapped for security. But after meeting Temptation, Candace feels the cold, tingling sensation that can mean only one thing: There’s a vampire in the diva’s entourage. To complicate matters, Ash suddenly appears in Sin City, vowing to do anything and everything to draw Candace back into his arms. Overwhelmed by desire and suspicion, she lets down her guard . . . a move that could cost Candace her life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Passionate Thirst
The story line was something new in Vampire genre with great twists and turns that kept me glued to the pages. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vampire Romance and Suspense
This was an awesome book! I read it in a single day because I could not help myself, I am on the third of the Candace Steele Vampire Killer books!
I am a lover of vampires and the way she kills them but is eternally linked to her lover vampire is so amazing I wasn't sure at first if I would like it, but I LOVE it!

3-0 out of 5 stars A light book to pass the time
I'm not going to talk about the plot because the summary that Amazon provided was the same as to the back cover of the book and at that, it's as good a summary as it goes. I'm just going to talk about the book, which is an interesting read. Is a book that's not heavy, it's a simple read that re tells the classic tale of romance between human and vampire giving it some new additions. Some reviewers say that they found it boring and not a keeper. I think this is the kind of book that you read, enjoy while reading it... maybe get bored by some parts of it... and then forget completly what the book was about. What I'm trying to say is that this book doesn't stays with you once you have closed the back cover. You just simply put it away and go on for the next one. It makes no big difference.

5-0 out of 5 stars Passionate Thirst (Mass Market Paperback) by Cameron Dean
Really enjoyed this book.It was very interesting and was exciting to read.Great vampire book if you love storys like that .Alot of juicy details that kept me all in the book and made it hard to put the book down.

4-0 out of 5 stars A promising debut, but plot doesn't hang together well.
Passionate Thirst has all the typical contemporary paronormal elements. The starcrossed, or stake-crossed, lovers are: Candace, a beautiful vampire slayer with a active libido, and Ash, a mysterious gorgeous undead hunk.As much as Candace loves Ash and also hates him for trying to turn her, it doesn't seem to keep her from finding 'comfort' in the arms of other men.The romance between Ash and Candace is handled in flash backs and is a little creepy. After she discovers Ash's true nature, she becomes sort of an abused hor d'oeurve.I found my feelings for Ash vacillating, between thinking that he really really loves Candace and thinking that with a PhD in Psychology that Candace should recognize that she needs major therapy.

I also had problems with several plot pieces. The first- we discover rather dramatically what activity Candace has chosen for therapy when she slays her first vamp. Just a little later when talking about a friend who is a vamp she makes the statement that essentially vamps have the same personality in death as in life, so they aren't inherently evil. I found it disturbing that the author had Candace take out the first vamp without establishing that he was truly evil. We know that he was out for blood, but Candace knows first hand that vamps don't have to kill. So the scene just didn't seem to fit into the story and the world well in retrospect. Another major disconnect for me was why Ash left Candace bleeding to death, when she got cold feet and asked him to stop in the middle of trying to turn her. The whole way through Ash was so possessive that I can't imagine him just giving up like that, when true death is so final. It seemed out of character. The last problem I had with the plot was with the whole evil super-vamp twist. Why is this vamp out to get Candace? It didn't make a whole lot of sense.

So, I had mixed feelings about Passionate thirst, but several of the secondary characters and their relationships were interesting (and I found all three books in this series at the thrift store) so I will give Candace and this series another try. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Not very "illustrated"
If you want this for the screenplay, it's worth it. Plus there's a few deviations between what was written and what was actually shot. There's also a very nice and informative intro by Paul Sammon. However I was disappointed with the lack of images and photos. There were some Cameron sketches and photos, including a couple rare ones (like the "Burke cocooned" one), but for an "Illustrated Screenplay" there needs to be more, I'm thinking at least 1 image/photo per 2 pages. When I turn several pages and there's just text, again, not very "illustrated." If you own the DVD or Laser Disc with the extra/supplemental material, you won't find much new or of interest here.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely good, though not flawless
Aliens (Film Novelization) / 0-446-30139-6

Whether Foster evolved as a writer between this book and his Alien: A Novel film novelization, or whether he was just presented with a script that was more thoroughly fleshed out this time, I do not know, but this novelization of "Aliens" is extremely good, much better than its predecessor by the same author.

In as much as a film novelization is a fleshing out of a favorite film (not unlike the "deleted scenes" we get today in DVDs), "Aliens" is a complete success. Ripley's internal thoughts and feelings are explored in detail, and we come to understand better why she was willing to go on this mission to face her nightmares, how she felt about the marines she travels with, and her own evolving feelings of fear, determination, and protectiveness throughout the experience. The marines are presented here with more lavish care and subtlety than they sometimes receive in the movie - Foster insists on showing that there is substance underneath the movie bravado, and makes them seem more human and more competent than they appeared on film. Even the much-maligned Gorman is presented as less of an inevitable screw-up and more as a good-on-paper junior officer who freezes up tragically in a moment of extreme emotional duress, a realistic and appreciated detail. Burke, in contrast, seems to flirt with a fine line of sociopathy, and the novel character is so true to the way the actor played him, that the reader can actually hear the new novel lines delivered in the actor's voice. Nice little touches abound, such as when Burke and Gorman are kicking around possible alternative explanations for the loss of contact with the planet and Gorman expresses his hope that the colonists have just had a bout of mass religious hysteria resulting in a "collective pout".

Not that this novel is without flaws. Some of the dialogue is exceedingly hokey - I, for one, am glad that the movie's inquest scene did not contain Ripley making the pun that "Someone is covering their Ash!". Gah. Similarly, Foster's treatment of the Newt/Ripley dynamic is rather cloying, with way too much internal monologue on Ripley's part about how much to push Newt into trusting her. The movie definitely went the better route of minimalism and left much of the development between the woman and child privately unspoken. Fortunately, these flaws are rather minor and are swallowed up by the serious business of being hunted by aliens, which is superbly done.

Really, if I have a complaint about this novel, it's that there is nothing here that isn't in the movie, by which I mean that there are no "deleted scenes" here, only "extended scenes". I would have happily paid twice as much for this novel if it had included a chapter covering the missing time period between the facehugging of Newt's father and the arrival of the marines some three weeks later, but no dice - just like the movie, the novel hops entirely over that elephant in the room, which is a real shame because I suspect that the tale would be incredibly interesting. Perhaps Foster, as the novelist, wasn't allowed to add extraneous details like how the colony was taken - perhaps film novelists are forced to stick totally to the script they are given. In which case, this book is still a wonderful companion to the "Aliens" movie and I recommend it to all fans... but I still wish that it could have been more somehow.

4-0 out of 5 stars solid novelization of wicked movie
A novelization is a book based off of the movie. So, in theory, if one loved the movie than one should love the book. Hence, Aliens the novelized book from the movie, is a wicked thrill.

Reading the book filled in some details which were unclear in the movie. The history of Ripley and other characters were made more clearly and more satisfaction was drawn from it. The novelization of the first movie, Alien, tended to be a more thrilling read. Aliens didn't have me at the edge of my seat as much as Alien did. Some parts seemed to be rushed through, like the queen's lair and the fight with the queen aboard the ship.

Throughout the book, the details seem to be filling in some cases, but lacking in others. It's a strange filling of detail, which leaves some longing for clarification and juicy detail.

Commentary

I usually am one to read relationship/unrealistic novels such as The Outsiders or Catcher in the Rye, but after falling in love with the movie "Aliens" when I was seven I thought reading the book may be fun to. I have to admit, I have read this before, but not since the third grade so picking it up again was not a problem because I had lost all memory of the tale. The thing I like about reading books based on movies is that you get a whole new idea of what each character is feeling when something happens. For instance although Sigourney Weaver is a truly talented actress, when Ripley is trying to get Newt (AKA Rebecca Johnson) to drink the hot chocolate in the movie you don't get the same essence of her emotion towards the child as you do in the novel. I appreciate Alan Dean Foster because he has a tendency to go over what is expected and dive into the depths of a character, making them more distinguishable and easier to get to know. This book is truly one of the only books that makes reading it before or after you see the movie a fun ride. Plus there's a lot of swearing, that's always a plus.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aliens hasn't gotten this good!
Great book! Like the movie is was suspenseful, action packed, and scary. The first book wasn't as good as this one though. The best parts are the end, and the part where Ripley is trapped with the facehuggers, and withoutweapons! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Meh. 2.5 stars. Interesting, but not luscious...
Background: I read the first book and then a couple months later I saw it on my kindle and had NO MEMORY OF READING IT. That about sums up how I feel about this series.

This book is better than the first (where at points I just wanted to hit people). The series is more of a paranormal mystery series than pure romance. The romance is oddly drawn out where we flip back and forth between the present and the past as we follow our heroine and her ill-fated romance with her vampire lover. But this relationship only provides context for the actual story- which is more mystery and action oriented.

If you LOVE the vampire genre, you will most likely enjoy this well enough. It just doesn't stand out. The characters are only marginally likable. They continuously make decisions that seem shallow, shortsighted or foolish. The main character comes across as entirely too emotional- even for a romance! And her best friend is more a character I would love to smack when I'm having a bad day, just to make me feel better.

The plot is decent enough and not entirely predictable. This is what saves it. The plot arc is entertaining and kept me involved. If I run out of other books, I might read the next one in the series.

2-0 out of 5 stars The heroine reminds me of someone I hated in high school
Plot Summary:Candace Steele dresses up like a cocktail waitress at a Las Vegas casino, but she's really undercover security. After being bitten by her ex-vampire-lover, Ash, she can now sense the undead by a cold chill running down her spine.Candace's official job is to chase vampires out of the casino; she's made it her hobby to kill them in her spare time, which isn't much, since she spends a lot of time rolling between the sheets.I wish I could say I liked her, but I don't.I swear she's bipolar and needs meds.

I found "Luscious Craving" fascinating for one reason.Candace admits every few pages that she loves Ash the man, but hates Ash the vampire. So what does she do?She spends the ENTIRE book screwing another guy.I don't think I've ever encountered a romance where the heroine professes undying love for the hero, and then finds solace in having sex with another. We're not talking one time either, but four or five at least. It's such a weird scenario, I can't stop wondering whether I admire the heroine or find her disgusting.Nah, it's definitely the latter.

5-0 out of 5 stars Candace Steel Vampire Killer Series by Cameron Dean
I need to find out when the next book comes out...
I love this author, just read all her books this weekend (there are 3), and oh my God, I need to talk to someone who has read these....

How can you kill a main character and leave nothing on when the next book is coming out or how to contact the author to yell at her.I love the series but I was crushed w/the ending of this.

Candace finally realizes her feelings for Ash, gives in to them and then he's killed off, come on.... he better be coming back somehow damnit, maybe make him a GOD, i could deal with that, hell it dealt w/the whole vampire thing fine, .

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Read,Unexpected Ending
Actually read all the three books. Enjoy it very much however the ending sucks!!! I mean paranormal romance, pleeasee...i want a happy ending!!!! I agree with some readers that there should be a follow up on the story on ASH and CANDACE why the abrupt ending of him dying/dead? is that another way telling the readers that the series are ending?..Well still think as the reader,we need the happy ending. The only story i know where the hero died is in THE SILVER KISS by ANNETTE CURTIS KLAUSE and this is in a different genre. Young Adult book about a vampire.

2-0 out of 5 stars Steele not that great....
The first book in this series was pretty terrible. It took me a long time to come around to reading this next volume, "Luscious Craving".Since I bought the entire trilogy at once, I knew eventually I would read on.I'm kind of glad that I did. This book is considerably better then its predassessor.Candace Steele is a very unlikeable heroine. She doesn't have a great personality at all and in this book she was such a tramp! I'm no prude but Candace went to and from two men in this book in a way that was kind of gross to me. Candace is a vampire killer who works security for a casino in Las Vegas. In this entry, Candace learns of a huge con about to go down.Slowly she unravels what the plot is and who is involved.I enjoyed the flashbacks into the past of Ash, the bane of Candace's existance. She can't live with him and can't live without him.Everything in between is turmoil. The writing isn't great in either of the two stories I've read thus far.Whether its the writing style, or the lack of intrigue in the characters, I have a hard time getting pulled into the tale. The story picks up at the end when the sex stops for a minute and the action takes over.I actually became mildly engrossed at this point and as soon as that happened...the story was over. I don't have high hopes for the third and final book...but the end of this book did show that there was potential there all along and Ms. Dean obviously missed a chance to make the story really work. This book pales in comparison to the other vampire tales in the market today. There are plenty of other books more deserving the reader's precious time and money. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars It is what it is...
By this time you have either decided you like the series or not. I felt series was amusing, this last book also fits the description. If you purchase this book, you should read the other two before it so you don't spoil the story. This book is fun easy going fantasy that you don't need to be hard core into to enjoy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Unlikable heroine becomes a vampire and has serious buyer's remorse

In the third and final installment, "Eternal Hunger," Ash's arch enemy drains Candace dry, until she's like an empty Capri Sun juice pouch. With her last breath, Candace gives Ash permission to (finally!) make her a vampire. Then she spends the rest of the book refusing to drink anyone's blood and forces Ash to become her personal bloody Big Gulp.I guess in her fight to survive, Candace conveniently forgot that pesky drinking blood thing that vampires do.Or, I'm right, and she really is bipolar. It's utterly frustrating watching her vacillation, and Ash is a freaking saint to put up with her whiny butt.

***SPOILER ALERT***
Okay, I'm not gonna say exactly what happens, but I will say that it does not end happy. For a romance fan, that's like a cold slap in the face after sticking with these characters for three books. It's up to you whether that bit of knowledge alone rules this series out.

1-0 out of 5 stars So bad its hard to write a review...
Ok so it took me ages to read all three of these books because right from the getgo I just didnt' like vampire hunter, Candace Steele or Vamp Man Ash.They both seem very 'cookie cutter'.The coolest thing was when Candace would put a silver hair barrette in a vamp's eye and swoosh they died. The 2nd book was slightly better than the first, as it had a tolerable plot line. The third installment, just hurt to read. The first thing that bothered me is that there was NO kind of recap whatsoever on what happened previously.I don't need pages, but give me a paragraph or two.Candace immediately turns, goes to an auction and an orgy (I had no idea she was going to be another Anita Blake- with no sexual discretion at all), watches the one half way decent character in the series kick the bucket, and then the ending.Wow.You have to give Dean credit for having nerve here.I personally was so over the series, I kind of thought the ending was mildly funny. Candance really ended up in a place she almost deserved to be...Nevertheless this doesn't make up for the fact that this series and this book in particular, is highly unsatisfying and there are tons of books out there more worthy of your valuable reading time.

2-0 out of 5 stars very disappointed
I read the three books in the last three days. After I finished the first two books, I was looking forward to the third.

I wish I had never started the series. The ending to the series was horrible. If I had known about the ending, I never would have started the series.

There needs to be a fourth book in the series, to fix the awful ending of the third.

I have never read anything else by this author, but I would be afraid to read any other series that she has done.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I love this series. It's fun and edgy.I can't wait for the next installment. ... Read more
