1-0 out of 5 stars with perseverance, botched work becomes thesis
The thesis that gave birth to this book is so bad, that the only way she obtained her PhD was by political pressure and people being tired of the problem.

No less than 21 key references from her work can not be found in the books and articles she quotes. 44 references contain irregularities; 23 of them contain 31 text modifications with respect to the original text quoted, such as additions, amputations and other forms of alterations. Often these modifications change the meaning of the original text quoted.

Plainly said, it is a miracle that her work was ever granted a PhD, and there is no surprise if no one dares to employ her in academia. Clearly, when you write a book with a "fact and history manipulation" agenda in mind, people ans scholars see this and realise your poor ethics and jugement skills. That is what happened to Esther Delisle.

If you read this work, your have a very high risk of having a false view of Anti-Semitism and Extremist in Quebec and thinking it can be associated with Nationalism in that province.

Dont loose a penny on this looser. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Book Description
Introduces critical issues that are highlighted by case studies, for example cultural relativism, power, oppression, attribution, and definitions of illness, and treatment. The case studies are presented in chapters that are co-authored by two to six experts representing a diverse range of professional and personal backgrounds. Concepts such as cultural competence, multicultural practice, and ethnosensitivity have taken root in the literature. At the same time, concepts such as cross-disciplinary, transdisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and interprofessional practice have been articulated. Although these two trends coexist in print, the literature in the various helping professions does not address whether and how the issues of client diversity and interprofessional practice can come together in productive and better informed ways. The present book promises to close this gap and offer health care professionals theoretically grounded examples of "best practices." The range of diversity includes Native American, Taiwanese, Portuguese, African-American, Algerian, Irish, South Asian, and gay clients. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Book Description
This book opens the window of history wide on the pro-Vichy, pro-fascist sentiments and acts of the Quebec intelligentsia during and after WW II. Using previously-unpublished documents gleaned from archives of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the FBI and the US State Department, the author, a Quebec historian, gives an entirely new reading to contemporary Quebec history. Widley acclaimed and controversial, this book should be read by anyone interested in modern Quebec or WW II. ... Read more

Book Description

A cultural milestone.

Canada is home to immigrants from every nation in the world. Quilting artist Esther Bryan wanted to celebrate this fact, to promote a sense of greater belonging among these diverse groups. A quilt would be a collaborative, community-based project to celebrate cultural diversity.

Each cultural group contributed one 11-inch square pieced into a giant quilt named the Quilt of Belonging. The quilt is approximately 120 feet long by 10 feet high (36 m by 3.5 m). It consists of 263 squares representing 71 Aboriginal groups and 192 immigrant nationalities found in Canada.

The quilt includes fabric that has been appliqued, beaded, cross-stitched, embroidered, and hand-woven. The many cultural decorations include:

  • Abalone shells
  • Lithuanian amber
  • Bobbin lace
  • A brooch from Poland
  • English wool
  • Kente cloth from Ghana
  • Porcupine quills, rabbit fur, sealskin, and smoked caribou hide
  • 200-year-old German linen
  • Worry dolls from Guatemala.

The Quilt of Belonging will be exhibited in spring 2005 with an opening show at Canada's Museum of Civilization and then will become part of a traveling exhibit of stitches and stories that visits museums and community centers throughout Canada and beyond.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quilt of Belonging: The Invitation Project
I saw this actual quilt at the Houston Internation Quilt Show. When you see it you can't possibly read all the stuff on each peace, so I was really glad to find out that I could purchase this book through Amazon. It was also less costly and I did not have to carry it back all the way from Houston.I also bought this book for my mother.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heart touching beauty
I had the joy of seeing this 120-foot long quilt in Houston last week and I got to meet and speak with the artist/author. I bought the book. The book is wonderful. The story of how this project began and the many amazing things that happened along the way will touch your heart. The idea that we all come from some place and that place is deserving of honor is expressed in quiet dignity within each block of the quilt. In the book you see the faces of the people who created the quilt. Just Wonderful.

Editorial Review

Book Description
"Reading For the Love of God's Kids is imperative for anyone serious about the dreadful plight of the world's street children. It is insightful, inspiring and describes a model response for churches and denominations world-wide."Dr. Herman L. Effa, retired missionary and former director of the NAB International Missions Department."Wally has come into the world of helping those who are suffering. He received a short glimpse of the needs and challenges that face this kind of work daily on an ongoing basis. My belief is this portrayal will bring the reader alongside the author to have a better appreciation of what goes on in God's kingdom, often invisible to large portions of society. My desire is to see this outreach replicated wherever people have the heart and courage to face up to this challenge."Rev. Ken Bayer, co-founder of the CHAIN of Love. "Wally Dennison is a passionate man whose heart has clearly been captured by God's love for underprivileged children. His desire to make a difference for this cause will both warm and challenge your heart."Tim Schroeder, Senior Pastor, Trinity Baptist Church, Kelowna, B.C. Author Bio:Wally Dennison lives in Kelowna, B.C. -- an area he calls the "loveliest region in the greatest country in the world." A naturalized Canadian, Wally is a University of Detroit graduate who edited a Texas camp newspaper in the army, and reported for the old Detroit Times before its death in 1960. His three years at the old Columbus Citizen-Journal in Ohio brought several state and national writing awards. Following six months with the Milwaukee Journal, Wally moved with an ex-wife to her hometown of Winnipeg, where he was a reporter, editor, features, and business writer with the Winnipeg Free Press. His son, Stephen, and two grandchildren reside in Winnipeg. ... Read more
