Product Description
After leaping off the pages with he unforgettable debut in John Berendt's bestselling Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, the unabashed personality known as The Lady Chablis now brings her irresistible charisma to the remarkable odyssey of fabulousness that USA Today calls "sassy" and "provocative...."

Born Benjamin Edward Knox in Quincy, Florida, "The Doll" always knew she was different. At a Tallahassee club, in her teens, she found the drag mother who would set her on the path to stardom. Before long, The Lady Chablis had a headline drag act replete with trademark saucy wit, down-home wisdom, and, of course, breasts. The rest is "Miss Thang" history.... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars "Bold and Honest!"
I found "Hiding my Candy" to be both a frank and bold self-exposè by the Lady Chablis of Savannah.Like many others, my first "exposure" to Chablis was from both the book and movie titled "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil."I was intrigued by the psyche of this individual, and was pleased to learn that she had written an autobiography of her life.

The book gives insight into her personal history. She courageously shares many intimate details of her evolution and life as a drag queen.

Her language style is very direct, but so is her persona.

I would recommend the book to anyone who wants to learn more about this interesting person, and does not mind her colorful language.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful !!!
Simply Love the Spirit, the Lady, the Grand Empress !!! And Wow !!! Beautiful pictures.

2-0 out of 5 stars People Should Take My Views w/ Only a Small Grain of Salt...
...because the truth is- even though this book is a very slender volume- I still couldn't force myself through it in entirety.

While I am unbothered by the campy, ego-centric, often bitchy manners inwhich some drag artists come across, for a tell-all autobiography, I admit I was looking for something softer and more gracious and generous.

I found Lady Chablis to lack a soulful, warmness to soften her edges, and she failed to draw me in as a reader and admirer of drag.

While one wants to avoid comparisons- by contrast, RuPaul for instance, is as campy and bitchy as they come- but she also portrays grace, dignity and seems genuinely compelled to reveal others' inner and outer beauty to themselves. Whereas Chablis' story seemed only bent on holding the light to her own physical beauty.

Bottom-line for me? Lady Chablis might possibly be the type of person one would wish to know in person, but we'll never know that. Her book holds a match to all that is bitingly-annoying to her on-stage personna, while doing nothing to reveal a more personal tender aspect of herself- which may or may not actually exist.

Souhterners are known for their charm- I wish this book had revealed some her's to us.

4-0 out of 5 stars Give it up for the Lady
If you have read "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" you certainly remember one of the most fascinating and intriguing characters of the book. And now it is time to learn all her secrets!

The book starts with a wonderful introduction by Berendt where he explains how he met Lady Chablis, and from that point it is all her. The Lady entertains us with her claims, like the one about being the protagonist of the best two chapters of The Book, and leaves us in awe with some of her stories, like the ones about men's reactions to finding out about her T.

The narrative is so vivid that it feels as if we were listening to the Lady speak as in the movie. Of course, it helps having being able to see her play herself in the film, because like she says, she "...wouldn't have it any other way".

The switches in mood throughout the book help keep the reading engaging. At times we find sections with a very serious tone, in which she addresses issues like her family's reaction to her true self, the decision of losing her candy and the relationship with a variety of men, ranging from caring to abusive. At other times, she livens up the mood and starts firing funny anecdotes and jokes that make us laugh out loud.

If you have read or watched "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" you owe it to yourself to find the T behind this fascinating character. I certainly enjoyed the ride.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Read
This is a very honest and straightforward book about The Lady Chablis. I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he couldn't put it down. He told me I "had to read this book". I couldn't put it down either. It also has a lot of humor. If you've read the book or seen the movie Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil, you can relate to Lady Chablis and the people and places of Savannah. ... Read more

If that doesn't interest you there's making chalk out of egg shells or how to recylce paper. you can even make "Mutant slime" a kids favorite. 5-0 out of 5 stars Best Candy Ever
John Everson is the best author ever. This book is full of twisted stories that will have your squirming for more.I purchased the book because of Everson. However, I was pleasantly rewarded by the other tales.Great collection.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
This is something I might have liked when I was about 12 years old but not anything really challenging or substantial in material. plot or writing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing but winners in this book
I'm a huge fan of Martin Mundt and Bill Breedlove, and their stories are the reason why I bought this book, but I'm happy to have made the acquaintance of John Everson and Jay Bonansinga in these same pages, they're both original and entertaining horror writers I'll be looking for more of in the future. There's nothing but top quality fiction in this little book, folks. Five stars for sure. Get it while you can!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic collection of stories by 4 awesome authors!!!
I really enjoyed the selections in this paperback and highly recommend that you purchase a copy, the standouts for me were the tales by Martin Mundt, this author is seriously twisted. He's like a totally serious version of Jeff Strand.Buy it, you won't regret it.

Troy :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Original, twisted, funny and entertaining -- what more could you want?
It takes some imagination to write fiction. It takes something extraordinary to produce a book of short stories with the originality that these authors have shown. They pull things out of the black top hat that the magician didn't even know was there. Completely twisted, often so funny I laughed out loud in an empty room and always entertaining, you cannot pass this book up. I'm on Amazon ordering more of this book to share my "find" with my friends. ... Read more

Product Description
In Sweetness Preserved, folklorist Dr. John Oldani safeguards the history of St. Louis' best-known confectionery. Visit Crown Candy Kitchen today and enjoy the same delicious ice cream and candy that the Karandzieff family has been serving since 1913. Coming from Macedonia in the great immigrant wave near the turn of the last century, the Karandzieffs have lived the "American Dream" through three generations. Oldani captures their wit and wisdom, and the charm of a still-popular shop that hasn't changed in nearly 100 years. With stories and recipes, from the Chocolate Easter Monkey to the Uncle Sam Sundae, Oldani fills us with longing-if not for an earlier era, then certainly for the finest sweets this side of the Mississippi. ... A+ Certification Study System presents a unified guideand test demonstration CD-ROM for the A+ certification core exam andthe DOS/Windows test.

The text covers all elements of each exam, beginning with processors, memory, and other hardware subsystemsbefore progressing through troubleshooting techniques and thefundamentals of MS-DOS and Windows 95.

Though each chapterconcludes with some useful practice questions, this book tends to failwith its sample hardware photographs. They're dark and amateurish, andit's rarely clear what you're supposed to notice--a picture of a wholemotherboard labeled "ZIF socket" isn't helpful, and neither is apicture of PS/2 mouse and keyboard ports misidentified as USBports.

The CD-ROM contains a program called Beachfront Quizzer, which simulates the format of the A+ exams neatly and does a good jobof tracking your answers. It's integrated with the text too. When aQuizzer user requests help with a question, the program brings up aquick answer, plus a hyperlinked reference to the relevant chapter ofthe book text on the disc. It would be better if the hyperlinks led tospecific sections of the text rather than requiring the test taker toscroll through a whole chapter.

By the way, the codes you need tounlock Quizzer appear in the "ReadMe First.txt" file in the CD-ROM'sBFQUIZ folder. IDG Books should have made this moreobvious. --David Wall ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The candy or candee Malayalam, also known as the maunee, was a traditional South Asian unit of mass, equal to 20 maunds and roughly equivalent to 500 pounds avoirdupois. It was most used in southern India, to the south of Akbar's empire, but has been recorded elsewhere in South Asia. In Marathi, the same word was also used for a unit of area of 120 bighas, and it is also recorded as a unit of dry volume. The candy was generally one of the largest unit in a given system of measurement. The name is thought to be derived from the Sanskrit , "to divide, break into pieces", which has also been suggested as the root of the term candy. The word was adopted into several South Asian languages before the compilation of dictionaries, presumably through trade as several Dravidian languages have local synonyms: for example kandi and putt in Telugu. ...
