Pleasing color sketches and simple diagrams adorn the pages of Satisfaction: The Art of the Female Orgasm by famed Sex and the City actor Kim Cattrall and her husband, jazz musician Mark Levinson. The fact that Cattrall's character on the show, Samantha Jones, is a sexual giantess is likely to bump up sales a notch for this attractive, children's-size book, but nevertheless it's a very worthwhile read.

Simple concepts--open communication, trust, love, and a consistent interest in pleasing one another--are the ingredients for an enriching and fulfilling sex life that can bring two people ever closer, according to the text. The facts speak for themselves: when pressed, women will confess in droves that they are sexually frustrated. It's tricky to communicate one's carnal desires to one's lover, yet both parties must be open to this type of ongoing discussion for the formula to work.

Meanwhile, a little education for men can go a long way. The concepts are basic--anyone who isn't a virgin probably knows them. But the rub lies in the consistency, the selflessness, and the patience required of the man. Cattrall and Levinson ask their male readers how they'd feel if they experienced some physical pleasure during lovemaking but never got to climax; they would likely get frustrated after a while. So an abiding devotion to pleasing the woman is a basic assumption throughout, and one that isn't commonly pointed out in such an open way elsewhere. Some readers may think Cattrall and Levinson's approach offers nothing new or exciting, but this honest reminder of what it takes to be a sensitive and satisfying lover is just what the doctor ordered. --Teri Kieffer Book Description
The sexiest star of the highest-rated comedy on cableSex in the Cityputs jokes aside, and explains the secret to pleasing a woman in bed. Kim and her husband have put together an artfully and elegantly designed, very explicit how-to sex book, based on feedback from the show, and their own experience, meant to help couples achieve one goalthe female orgasm. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars If you read ONE book about how to please a woman (and honestly, when's the last time you had sex and the man didn't orgasm?)
You cannot beat this book. I saw another review saying that the reviewer would buy one for every son of theirs when they were of age... and I must say I think that makes sense. I considered, NOT KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT THEIR SEX LIFE, giving this anonymously to my dad just because I feel like my mom deserves it if she's not getting what all this book has to offer. This book is a tasteful and educational book about how women can achieve orgasms with their lovers... but above all it emphasizes the importance of both partners having the desire and know-how to please each other. And desire does not always equal know-how! I can't say enough about the value of this book. Buy it and read it. Or buy it for your man and ask that he read it. Or buy it and read it with him... only good things can come from it! Pun intended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Couples Sex Suggestions
Great for couples....with a surprise....focus on the woman. Who would of thought it could be such fun!

5-0 out of 5 stars Guide for the tongue and the attitude
Two reasons make this book worth the purchase:

1.It gives emphasis to the idea of the orgasm as part art and part technique.I practiced piano technique for years before I ever became proficient enough to "play" the piano and forget the technique (consciously). The book enphasizes the idea that technique isn't the answer; the answer is in the art. That idea, the art of orgasm, if caught makes the book valuable.

2.The pages on cunniligulus display clear, beautiful, and tasteful descriptions and sketches about how to practice the art in a way better than other books devoted completely to the tongue.

I wasn't that interested in the details of Ms Cattrall's life (I don't own a television, never once watched her show, and never found the personal testimony of movie stars convincing) except that she gives convincing testimony that a lover/artist who takes time to learn the instruments (his and his lover's body) can create a new level of pleasure and a new level of understanding. Also, it's probably encouraging for some to know that rich and beautiful doesn't equate with spectacular sex life.

The amount of information at first seemed less than the size of the book promised. But, if you enjoy a beautiful book (the feel of it and the sight of it), and if you carefully study the techniques offered in the section on cunnilingulus, THEN if you forget the book and the mechanics of the techniques in the spirit that a pianist forgets the scales--leting his fingers "play" the instrument, I think you may improve your art and find the book worthwhile.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wish I had this book when I was no....instead of 50!
What a wonderful book for a guy to read. There are things I've wondered about and wanted to learn for 25 years. Satisfaction helped me understand the "How" and "where" to satisfy my wife.
Now the real fun begins!!
It's never too late to learn. I expect the next 10 years to be much more enjoyable for my wife (and me too) than the last 15. Hoping to go from Good to GREAT!!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Decriptive
This book is definitely for people like picture books! The anatomically correct pictures are a big help and everything is diagramed for easy understanding. My husband and I found that this book is oriented very much at teaching the man to please the woman because a man likes and enjoys sex no matter what.I would have liked to see more equality because I feel partners like to give to each other and not always take or always give. ... This may well be the sexiest coffee table book ever created. A companion to the HBO documentary of the same name, Sexual Intelligence is a follow up title to Kim Cattrall's simpler, more technical Satisfaction: The Art of the Female Orgasm. Gorgeously sensual photos and a sprinkling of poetry cozy up to science, combining experts like Betty Dodson and Thomas Moore with Sappho and Georgia O'Keefe; this time around, the goal is exploration, rather than instant delivery.

Specifically, all this lush intelligence directs itself towards education about why we want what we want. After poring over the five lovely chapters (Desire, Messaging, Arousal, Fantasy, and Release), you still might not have a definite answer, but the final pleasure far outweighs the impression of flightiness. Straightforward explanations of anatomy (a definite step up from school health class) intermingle with tales of ancient gods and goddesses that liven up facts, while the layer of glamour over all wraps the package in a big fluffy bow. Shots of classic paintings mix equally with shots of Kim, each providing eye candy that is tailored to please.

Six "average folks," ostensibly representing a wide sample of sexual interests and ideas, provide quotes throughout the text; sometimes offering a complex thought, other times simply throwing in something along the lines of, "I drive a nice Porsche so I can get chicks." While their voices do help make the book more representative of the general population, it still feels like a book aimed mostly at straight women--which might make it a very handy title for straight men to keep in their living rooms.--Jill Lightner

Amazon.com Interview with Kim Cattral

Amazon.com: Can you explain what you've got in mind by the phrase "sexual intelligence"?
Kim Cattrall: A person who knows what they like! And has some idea why. Intelligence is traditionally defined -- Webster's for example would define intelligence as success in coping with situations and solving problems. Intelligence can also mean a collection of useful insight and information that enriches understanding.I used the word "intelligence" in the title of the book and the documentary because it reflects my desire to gather whatever insights, inspirations, and information that could nourish the part of us that is sexual and sensual, so that it might be strong and function well.
Amazon.com: What was the starting point for Sexual Intelligence?
Kim Cattrall: My previous book Satisfaction: The Art of the Female Orgasm was unabashedly a how to, complete with colored arrows and schematic diagrams by way of demonstration. People responded so positively the book -- they wrote me these amazing letters and I could see there remained an enormous amount to explore and learn -- for myself as well as everybody else. Orgasm is fabulous, but I realized I had started at the end of the story. Writing a book on how to satisfy sexual desire lead me to become more interested in what its roots and sources actually are. What inspires arousal in the first place? Where does it come from? What can it tell us? How does it keep us engaged with the world?
Amazon.com: Of the five chapters (Desire, Messaging, Arousal, Fantasy and Release), the one on desire is by far the longest. What makes this topic so much more important?

Courage! [Samantha Jones] was courageous and totally without prejudice.

Kim Cattrall: The idea of "desire" is really the central theme of the book. At one point I even thought of calling the book "desire" but it sounded too much like another celebrity fragrance, you know -- Kim Cattrall: Desire. But really, an investigation of desire was the key idea growing out of my previous book. It's funny, in a way this book is almost like a pre-quel to my previous book Satisfaction 'cause without desire, there ain't no "satisfaction." Something that came up right away in regard to desire or arousal, is that men and women tend to experience it differently and of course we wanted to include both points of view, so that made the chapter even longer!
Amazon.com: Your book draws on so many eras and cultures. Which one is the most inspirational for you?
Kim Cattrall: Looking at the stories and images that have informed and given expression to erotic impulses over the centuries was fascinating to me. They help give shape to the individual struggles and joys we experience through sex

The classical era of Greece and Rome are endlessly fascinating because those cultures so openly celebrated sex on both a literal and a metaphorical level.
and also show what an enduring and central role sexuality plays in being human. The classical era of Greece and Rome are endlessly fascinating because those cultures so openly celebrated sex on both a literal and a metaphorical level. Their worship of the phallus mines a very rich vein of human drives and drama. The mythical figure of Aphrodite or Venus, the great Goddess of love, is an invention of pure cultural genius in how well it expresses the complexity, allure and power of sexuality.
Amazon.com: Satisfaction: The Art of the Female Orgasm came about in relation to your character on Sex in the City. How did your role as Samantha Jones influence this project?
Kim Cattrall: Courage! She was courageous and totally without prejudice. She was also self-accepting. Those are three valuable characteristics that I had the benefit of continually rubbing up against in the skin of Samantha Jones and I believe they came strongly into play on this project.
Amazon.com: What was the most surprising thing you learned while working on the book?
Kim Cattrall: Well, after living inside Samantha Jones for 6 years, you would think nothing would surprise me! But I learned an ENORMOUS amount. Even in areas that are very familiar, like looking at parts of the body or discussing the differences between men and women. I think "revelation" might be a better word -- there were so many instances of insight -- moments of -- "Aha, so that explains it!" Sexuality is such a vast subject and so complex. You realize you've been going on a trickle of knowledge when there's like gushing waterfall out there.

Examining the underpinnings of eroticism was very exciting.
Some of the most revelatory material to me centered on new brain research and learning about what actually happens to us on a physiological and biochemical level during arousal, and even throughout a sexually charged relationship. Another area that offered so much new insight was learning how sexual fantasies actually function and how better to approach and understand them, even when they're quite odd -- which of course, being fantasies, they certainly can be. Also, examining the underpinnings of eroticism was very exciting. It's like we live with all of these images -- icons really -- like the dominatrix, the masked man, the naked half beast, or even from a classical standpoint, Venus on the half-shell. The images are achingly familiar, they've been with us for centuries, but what ever are they supposed to actually mean? Getting into all of that was extremely enriching. Images like those endure for reason. They speak to something elemental and universal.

Book Description
Is it possible to develop a kind of sexual intelligence, one that can deepen our pleasure and give us a greater awareness of ourselves?

Kim Cattrall ignited a new sexual revolution with her first book, Satisfaction—an intimate guide to satisfying sexual desire. Now she's back, with a provocative new work that examines the sources and inspirations of sex.Cattrall and a small group of writers and filmmakers traveled to the historic sites that have give expression to human sexuality—including the streets of ancient Pompeii, with their explicitly erotic public art; the Secret Museum in Naples; the beaches of Cyprus, birthplace of the love goddess Aphrodite; and the rolling hills of Dorset, England, site of the largest phallus on earth. They also interviewed experts, sexual adventurers, and ordinary people. The result is an informed and entertaining look at the mysterious logic of sexual desire. SEXUAL INTELLIGENCE features candid conversation, comic animation, master works of art, and contemporary photography—all woven into a narrative that celebrates nature, imagination, and the sensuality of life. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Great cover, but the contentnothing than average cultured person does not know
I somehow knew when I bought it that I was falling into a marketing trick. The title is extremely misleading as it hardly develops the concept of what is "sexual intelligence". Ms Cattrall basically states that our sexual emotions, feelings and perceptions are guided by the mind, which is kind of obvious, but any original conclusion or insight is absent from the text. That aside, the book is read in 1 hour and it feels like talking with a friend about this topic, and even if no new ideas are developed during the conversation, is fun to have it anyway. After all we are talking about sex.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, artistic insights.
Plenty of books have been written exploring sexual behavior and health, but SEXUAL INTELLIGENCE is something different: it does into the HBO special of the same name and it explores the origins of sexual desire, delving into both history and health to consider sexual behavior patterns from eye contact to kissing and beyond. From behaviors of particular sexual orientations to human body reactions, SEXUAL INTELLIGENCE pairs color photos throughout with excellent, artistic insights.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kim Cattrall Sexual Intelligence
Recommended not only for women, but especially men.Men be a 5 star lover to the woman in your life, read the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Informative
Miss Cattrall is beautiful and makes her points well.Informative and Entertaining.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not pornography
Admittedly, if you are looking for a book of pornography, this book will certainly disappoint you. What this book is instead, is an interesting and colorful coffee table book on the subject of human sexuality. With chapters on desire, messaging (seductiveness through appearance), arousal, fantasy and release, sexuality is explored in an interesting, non-clinical manner. Along the way, the reader is treated to many interesting pictures, both ancient and modern.

Overall, I found this to be an interesting book. It is not a "How-To" book by any stretch of the imagination, but it makes a wonderfully sensuous and entertaining read. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Review of "Being a girl"
I bought this book for my 11 year old granddaughter. All of the book was fitting for her except the last section on sex.Her mother and I both felt she was too young to read that section. So, we have not given her the book yet. Will probably wait another 12 months or so.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Tool
I was so pleased to find this book!I mentor a young teen girl and read this book aloud to her during our weekly sessions over a period of several weeks. She loved it and it was a great way to start some good conversations on some subjects that sometimes confuse or intimidate girls entering womanhood.Several other mentors are being encouraged to use it with their girls.A great find.

4-0 out of 5 stars Young girls will enjoy!
Kim Cattrall, who left home at sixteen to go to acting school in New York City, won a Golden Globe for her role as Samantha in the Sex and the City television show.

Cattrals writes in a chatty style for late tween and teenage girls about sex, bodily changes, boys, parents, school, self-esteem and a whole lot more in this frank, down-to-earth book. The book is easy to navigate, well laid out with pictures of herself as a child and adult as well as gloriously done illustrations.

Quotes and nuggets of wisdom from Cattrall, such as, "I kind of wish dating could be renamed "getting to know you." That would take a lot of the pressure off." help make this book a handy roadmap for navigating adolescence and puberty. Girls can identify with the author because she writes in a conversational style that draws you in and speaks openly about her own challenges and feelings during her teen years from her fifty-year-old perspective.

Most women will appreciate the autobiographical information and remember their own teen years with joy and some sadness. The writing is easy-to-understand, thoughtful, intelligent and sometimes quirkily funny.

Glossy, thick pages and a wide 8" x 8" layout make this a simply gorgeous book.

Coupled with Cattrall's writing style and Martha Richler's illustrations, this is a book that every young girl would enjoy having in her bookcase for years of candid support and advice from a driven, successful woman.

Armchair Interviews says: A must-have for girls twelve and up. It augments a mother's or other female role model's advice for girls and even young women.

Book Description
A convicted man out to prove his innocence...

An innocent woman held captive by desire...

Julie Mathison overcame her rough Chicago childhood to become a pillar in a rural Texas community. A third-grade teacher, she is a lovely, vivacious young woman determined to give back all of the love and kindness she has received.

Zachary Benedict, an Academy Award-winning actor/director, was at the pinnacle of his career when he was convicted of murdering his wife. The tall, ruggedly handsome convict endures his prison time, waiting for the day when he can escape and find the real killer.

When that day comes and his carefully planned break-out goes awry, Zack abducts an unsuspecting Julie and forces her to drive him to his Colorado hideout. There, as she comes to believe in Zack's innocence, Julie's fear slowly gives way to trust and desire, kindling a smoldering, sensual passion between them. But before their new found love can take hold, Zack and Julie must pass a bitter test that will force them to endure the pain of betrayal and separation that could drive them apart forever. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It was indeed Perfect
So good. Can't wait to re-read. Judith makes the characters so likable. I wish she would write a hundred more books just like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars WOW! PERFECT title for a perfect book!
This is by far the BEST book I have ever read! And this is coming from a gal who rarely reads a love story of any type. Zack and Julie develop a love that transcends time...and how they get to that part is one wild ride. He is got to be the sexiest character that I have ever read, and Julie is the luckiest heroine ever. Their story touched my soul. I have never read a book - no matter how good it was, more than once until I first read Perfect. I now have to replace my dog-eared copy that I have let everyone on the planet borrow, with another so it will hold a place of honor in my library. Outstanding read and I recommend this perfect book to everyone who will lend me an ear. I would give it 10 stars if I could....andZack, I now look for you in every man.

5-0 out of 5 stars My first romance novel
I picked up Perfect because I found it on my mother's bookshelf years ago, and enjoyed it so much I have since been hooked on romance novels. Although I have read numerous romance novels since (I'm a pretty prolific reader) I still number some of McNaught's novels (such as Once and Always and Paradise) as among my favorites. Unlike many novelists, McNaught enriches her love story with a depth of emotion that is sure to evoke the reader's pathos. I noticed Perfect has been criticized for having an unrealistic storyline, which is an obvious tenet of the romance genre in my opinion. However, Perfect stands alone among most romance novels in that the conflicts of the story are rational and the characters are, while idealized, believable and (most importantly) likable.

In other words, I found this book to be a really lovely, evocative read and would heartily recommend it for someone who values character development over general plotline as I do. Hopefully, my opinion is not overly influenced by nostalgia :-)

5-0 out of 5 stars Too Perfect For Words
This book is on my top five list of the books I've most enjoyed in my life.I absolutely loved it and if I had more time in my life and not so many other books to read, I'd read it again.I can't say enough how much I loved it!Great summer, winter, fall or spring read.I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars PERFECT!!
This is the best book I've ever read.I don't even know how many times I've read it, but I'm on my third copy of it.McNaught is a wonderful writer, and I love the way she includes characters in other books. To enjoy Perfect the most, read Paradise first. ... Read more
