Product Description
In "The Holocaust and Memory in the Global Age", Daniel Levy and Natan Sznaider examine the distinctive forms that collective memory take in the age of globalisation. Levy and Sznaider examine the way the Holocaust has been remembered in Germany, Israel, and the US during the last fifty years, and show how this singular event has been detached from its precise context and instead used as a way of focusing abstract questions of good and evil, and how this use has given the Holocaust a resonance across the global stage, as responses to other injustices like ethnic cleansing in Bosnia have depended on a collective understanding of the Holocaust to justify such actions. In so doing, memories of this singularly tragic event as articulated in our global age open up new possibilities for imagining global political and cultural norms for the effective spread of human rights and for corrected injustices around the globe. ... Product Description
(Pearson Education) A guide to the mobile Internet, the technology that powers it, and how to write content and applications for it. A tutorial and reference for content and application developers and business strategists and service planners, setting the standard for WAP resources. DLC: Computer network protocols.Amazon.com Review
The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and its related specifications seem likely to be the technologies that really bring inexpensive Internet connectivity to the masses; many studies predict that wireless Internet devices will outnumber traditional computer terminals within a couple of years. The Wireless Application Protocol: Writing Applications for the Mobile Internet explores the WAP suite of protocols and languages, taking an approach that suits systems architects and organizational visionaries as well as software developers. The authors--participants in the standards-setting WAP Forum--explain how the pieces of the WAP development and delivery puzzle fit together before dissecting those pieces individually.

Wireless Markup Language (WML) and Wireless Markup Language Script (WMLScript) get the most careful and complete documentation. The coverage of WML here is richer in text than in typical markup language references. The authors have chosen to explain each of WML's smallish set of tags with lots of commentary, code samples, and illustrations, as well as a table that lists legal attributes and their valid values. The WMLScript documentation is less elaborately embroidered on the level of individual functions, but a sizable section on usability and design standards--complete with photographs of various interfaces rendered by different physical devices--more than compensates. Plus, the authors cover push messaging and Wireless Telephony Applications (WTA), subjects that other popular WAP books neglect.

A serious developer of solutions that employ WAP, WML, and their related technologies will already have several books on the subject (including, probably, Professional WAP and Beginning WAP, WML, and WMLScript). This one has earned a place on the shelf. --David Wall

Topics covered: The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) specification (version 1.2.1) and the application-development standards that ride on top of it. Coverage includes Wireless Markup Language (WML), Wireless Markup Language Script (WMLScript), push messaging and Wireless Telephony Applications (WTA). Sections address design and efficiency issues. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Complete!
I love this book. It's complete, goes right into the details and is clearly written. I cannot think of a higher compliment to pay a book or author. If you're a WAP developer or are ramping up for a WAP development project this book will get you there. I loved the treatment of WML, deploying services and wireless telephony applications. I highly recommend this book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not Staight Forward
This book is complete. To the best of my knowledge it is the most complete book you can find. The only problem I see with this book is that, the author spend too much time explaining the background of the WAP protocol. Personally I care less about the historical side view.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good book about useless technologie
Hi, fellows ! The book is really easy to read, i agree with previous reader. And who still thinks, that this is a good technologie, i will recommend it. There are practical all things, what you need to develop a WAP solution.

But, what about is this book ?About WAP - technological useless solution for wide marketing actions. Dear fellows, WAP is out, and there is no back for this technologie. Just wait a little bit the new UMTS system and we will se, what technologie will bring with itself.

If you think in your enterprice about this solution - forget it. And finaly don't buy this one, you can cabbage some money for beer or another book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read
I run an intranet portal and needed to convert it for use by WAP phones.A friend referred me to this book, and it was exactly what I needed.

The book walks you through the WAP technology step-by-step.It began by explaining what could be done from WAP phones, explained the infrastructure I would need, and how it all fits together.

The heart of the book is its detailed discussion of WML and WMLScript. It is full of useful sample code, and the book's web site offers more sample code. After I understood how to write WML, the book explained how to really use it -- to write usable content.

Finally, I learned about the emerging WAP standards (push, WTA, ...) which are helping me to plan how I will use WAP in the future.

2-0 out of 5 stars Some information not grounded in reality
This book does an excellent job of describing things from the perspective of the standards, but does not always acurately articulate reality. There are many things in the specifications that are not yet implemented, and are likely to be dropped or re-worked in the future before they appear as features in real handsets, WTA in particular. No device manufacturer has implemented, nor has plans to implement WTA features which this book states "can almost be guaranteed to work and behave consistently across current and future networks and across a wide range of mobile clients" ... Product Description
Five trends in the global political environment that affect the Asia-Pacific are: globalization; pulls of integration and disintegration; American dominance and leadership in the world; the emergence of new powers; the proliferation of nuclear states, weapons of mass destruction and the technological advances in the weapon delivery systems. These trends have significant implications for global finance, and the conduct of business in Asia. Both the businessperson seeking an opportunity and the academic doing research would find it useful to have an understanding of the various perspectives of Asia -- its economic recovery, changing political landscape, progress of economic reform, and the impact of the telecommunication and digitisation revolution. Formerly the Year in Review series, Perspectives endeavours to provide more forward-looking, instead of backward-looking, insights into developments in the international and Singaporean environments. Perspectives: 2000 and Beyond is a collection of papers that were presented at a conference in January organised by The Institute of Policy Studies, a public policy think-tank in Singapore, to celebrate the new millennium. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book overall
This is a good book to review many of the daily conditions and diseases we encounter not only in primary care, but also in other specialties.Very easy to read and understand.Very good guide to assess treatment options.

2-0 out of 5 stars not recommended
too simple and superficial . not that helpful since it is just too basic or not the point, only use couple times after I bought it.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent edition to primary care library
This book is a must for residents in primary care.Excellent source of information on issues in ambulatory care.Easy to look up and find desired answers.Well organized with great tables. This edition has added a pharmacist to review medication treatments and guidelines which was a great touch. Overall I highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Succeeds in a digital age
Weinstock's Sixth Edition continues the tradition of a white-coat pocket sized book that gets to the heart of clinical challenges quickly.Much of "Resident's Guide" is tabular, all of it in an outline form and therefore "concise" is the term that every reviewer thus far has used.

But, concise isn't the real reason that our residents use it.All have hospital provided iPhones loaded with clinical aps, and they certainly use Epocrates and UpToDate regularly as they're connected to our EMR, yet still I see this book peeking out of their pockets and desk drawers.

Why?I think it's because they don't need a textbook approach much of the time. They need a memory jog, a checklist and a reassurance they haven't missed something -- and they need it in a hurry. This way they also don't have do ask me, and then get three questions in return.Kudos again to Dr. Weinstock and his crew.

5-0 out of 5 stars On Kingdon Business: Tranforming Missions Through Entrepreneurial Stategies
This is an excellent book for this interested in participating in foreign missionary work abroad either for a limited duration or a life time. This book is divided in two parts: why new strategies on doing missions must be implemented (it advocates doing so through business endeavors that are favorable to building national infrastructures) and examples of how these strategies have yielded results and those that have not.The book is a wealth of information on a paradigm shift for doing foreigh missions, a necessary read for all involved in such a calling.

5-0 out of 5 stars On Kingdom Business: Transforming Missions Through Entrepreneurial Strategies
This book (along with Eldred's, God Is At Work) is the owner's manual for every Christian who has ever wondered if there just might be something redemptive about work. There is no fluff, no wasted words, no mental lapses, no insider-theological-jargon in this book.Instead, this book is packed with superior Bible exposition (especially see Wayne Grudem's, "How Business in Itself Can Glorify God"), many realistic examples, historical precedence, completely actionable conclusions, and a one-stop-shop bibliography.

Every pastor who takes seriously his responsibility to "tend the flock" must become completely conversant with the content of this book... and then must go out an LEARN about the world of his parishioners-at-work. Every Christian --especially every investor and every owner-- who reads this book will be wonderfully encouraged or strongly convicted and then powerfully motivated to make money make an eternal difference.

As a devoted follower of The Christ and a successful entrepreneur with Fortune 100 clients and assignments in Asia, North America, and Western Europe, I urge you to redeem your time by buying, studying, and implementing this book.Vic Downing, Silicon Valley California.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of applications for Christians in business
I found this book just by searching on the title after reading a paper that a friend in India wrote on kingdom business.I have been hungry to learn what it means for me as an entrepreneur to have a Matt 6:33 'his kingdom first' mentality in running a for profit venture.I devoured this book and found it to be one of the most helpful I've seen yet, even though a primary focus of the book is more along the lines of how to advance missions more effectively.

The first section covers eleven case studies each written by a different author involved in a kingdom business.True to the title, most of these are ventures that seek to make a positive impact in Christian missions, particular in countries with restricted access. They are mostly (but not all) small companies primarily with a local presence trying to figure out how to survive in a self-sustaining way in addition to finding ways to serve people with a meaningful impact economically and spiritually. This is in juxtaposition with larger multinational, leading edge businesses or businesses with a presence only in a western country. However, I found many lessons and examples in the case studies that can benefit a Christian business person in these other environments as well.

The second part covers 9 essays on the subject of business and ministry, kingdom companies, etc. again each written by a different author. And the third section is a review or analysis of the case studies and the lessons learned. These sections were full of thought provoking nuggets for me as well. The appendices also include a fairly comprehensive bibliography of related reading material.
I came away with a stronger conviction that in all of my endeavors, business or otherwise, I should be asking "what can I do to seek first his kingdom?".In addition to a business plan I need a kingdom plan.My background and experience in business can be instrumental directly in meaningful efforts to spread good news and help people, as opposed to being only a mechanism to help fund these efforts.I've purchased a couple of extra copies for others as their interest in kingdom business topics grows. ... From the supplier: Computer-aid ed instruction (CAI) is being tested as a means of providing rehabilitation to clients with a wide variety of disabling conditions. The main advantage of CAI over traditional classroom teaching methods is the automatic interaction and immediate feedback that the student gains from learning with a computer. A recent study of rehabilitation students and counselors at the Texas Rehabilitation Commission showed that rehabilitation counselors performed better than students in the case simulation tests (as was expected). The counselors took more appropriate action for making decisions in the test scenarios. The results confirm findings derived from a similar test conducted in 1980. It appears that CAI can be a useful tool in providing students with simulated scenarios in which they must make rehabilitation decisions that approximate real-life situations. However, computer-based case-management simulations in rehabilitation medicine require larger and more representative norm groups.
