Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Raw Like Sushi is the debut album of rapper Neneh Cherry, released May 2, 1989 on Virgin Records. An early version of "Buffalo Stance" appeared on the B-side of the Morgan McVey single "Looking Good Diving". The single was not successful; however the B-side was re-recorded with Tim Simenon of Bomb the Bass fame and "Buffalo Stance" was born, becoming a worldwide hit reaching #3 in the UK, #3 in the Billboard Hot 100 and even reached #1 for two weeks in the Netherlands. The album also contained the #10 US (and #20 UK) hit "Kisses on the Wind" and the #5 UK hit "Manchild" (did not chart in the US). The lyrics on the album are sometimes autobiographical, talking about school years. They are also influenced by Neneh's motherhood. Others speak of women allegedly trying to steal a man from another woman. All players and programmers are credited in this album, however Cameron McVey, Cherry's husband, appears as Booga Bear. Massive Attack's Robert Del Naja co-wrote "Manchild", and fellow member Andrew Vowles aka DJ Mushroom performs on "Kisses on the Wind", "The Next Generation" and "So Here I Come". "My Bitch" is a vocal duet with Gilly G. The cover and inner photos were shot by renowned fashion photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino. All tracks composed by Neneh Cherry & Booga Bear; except where indicated Neneh Cherry - vocals, programming ...http://booksllc.net/?id=972822 ... Read more

Excerpt: "7 Seconds" is a song composed by Youssou N'Dour, Neneh Cherry, Cameron McVey and Jonathan Sharp. Released as a single by Youssou N'Dour and Neneh Cherry, the song was a huge international hit in 1994. It remained on the charts for nearly half a year and reached the top three in many countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, Russia and Poland. The single stayed at #1 for 16 consecutive weeks on the French Singles Chart, which was the record of the most weeks at the top at the time. The song was a track on N'Dour's album The Guide (Wommat), released shortly after the single. In 1996 it was included on the Neneh Cherry album Man. The song was featured in the 1998 movie Northern Skirts and 2005 Uwe Boll directed movie Alone in the Dark. The song is trilingual: N'Dour sings Wolof, the Senegalese language, and French (plus singing chorus in English), Cherry sings English. The black and white music video is directed by Stéphane Sednaoui. It features people of different races walking by while the two are singing. When they sing the chorus, different kinds of people's faces appear. The idea was later copied in many different video clips by other artists.
