Product Description

Two Hearts, One God.
Should Anything Else Matter?

Zora Nella Hampton Johnson knows exactly where she comes from—and her daddy won't let her forget. Of course for that privilege he keeps her in Prada and Kate Spade, Coach and YSL. He chooses her boyfriend, her car, her address, and ignores her love of painting, art, and the old ways of her grandaddy's soulful AME church—where the hymns pleaded, cajoled, and raised the roof. Her daddy may be a preacher, but some-where among the thousands of church members, the on-site coffee house, and the JumboTron, Zora lost God. And she wants Him back.

Nicky Parker, a recent graduate of Berkeley and reformed playboy, also suffers the trials of being a preacher's kid, and he can't remember the last time he saw eye-to-eye with his white, racist, Southern Baptist father. What he does remember—and it will be forever burned in his brain despite myriad prayers to Jesus—is the way Zora looked the first time he saw her. Like Nefertiti. Only better. When they meet at a bible study far from their respective home churches, the first churlish, sarcastic sparks that fly sizzle with defensiveness. But God has a special way of feeding the flames and though of different flocks, these two lost sheep will find Him and much, much more.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing book
This book is real, honest and raw--and amazing. Mair deals with faith, church life and racism in a way that very few authors have. I laughed and cried while reading this book and in the end, picked up my Bible. I read a lot of books, and very few have touched me in the way that Zora & Nicky did. What I thought was a simple love story became a story that made me think about my own relationship with God.

4-0 out of 5 stars 5 stars if you're a Jesus freak!
This book touched a lot of topics that most current interracial romance novels don't.They really explain what's going on in the minds of two people from different races who fall in love. The instant and strong attraction these two had was amazing and the portion explaining about what some preachers kids may go through was interesting, but the references to God and Jesus and all the scriptures that were in this book just became overwhelming and confusing to me. If it had not been for the overwhelming use of all the biblical lingo this would have been a great story to read. I must mention however that when Claudia Mair Burney is not using the scriptures and is just making normal conversation I really like her style of writing. She uses a lot of short sentences to get her points across quickly. All in all if you are heavy into the bible then this is a book for you.

1-0 out of 5 stars Zora and Nicky: A Novel that felt Flat
I was so rooting for this book. As a Christian, I look for romance novels like this one. I am a sucker for reads like this one but seriously this book was very stale and weak. It dragged on with exaggerated cliches, forced biblical references and unrealistic characters. The characters were underdeveloped and failed to create a real dynamic between two people with any type of chemistry. Nicky's naivety was unbelievable and Zora's acceptance of his racial ignorance was upsetting. Their relationship was completely trivial. Burney was not one bit creative and at times I questioned her abilities as a writer. It is obvious that the author did not write about what she knew about. Morover, the story is there but it just couldn't live upto the novel's cover picture.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Page Turner
Just as I was about to cast all Romance novels away from my reading list, I came across this. At first, a part of me believed what was said about Christian Romance not being intersting. I cannot believe that I ever felt this way.

Zora and Nicky was an absolutely amazing book, and Zora's decision to continue to abstain from sex, even at the age of 22, did wonders for my own beliefs, especially being a 19 year old who has never even been kissed.

I love this book, but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone. Just the people who have an open mind, and want to read some romance that doesn't deal with the typical sex scene every five pages.

Is that you? Then PLEASE read this! I can't say that you won't regret it. Everyone is different. But what's the harm in going to the library? It's free!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly awesome!
This was one of the best books i have read in a couple years.I love the way Claudia used scripture through the book in a way that was fresh and unique. This will definitely be added to my book club selection. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This was the first book I had purchased by this author. It was a good book that held your interest throughout.I am looking forward to the next book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Burney does it again
If you loved the first two Amanda Bell Brown books (Murder, Mayhem & a Fine Man; Death, Deceit & Some Smooth Jazz), you'll love this one even more. If you haven't read the first two, you MUST read them first or this one won't make much sense. This series is unique in combining a sassy, funny style and high sexual tension with deep, serious spiritual content. This is not your grandma's CBA fiction. It's real and it's gripping. And definitely NOT only for African Americans. But be sure to block out a weekend to read it, because you will not be able to put it down!

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed
I read the first 2 novels of this series within 5 days. Both were execellent page turners. This one however was a bit disappointing. The main character, Bell, was very indecisive. For her to be a seasoned christian, she behaved like a babe in Christ.I'm only halfway through the book, and I have put it down several times because of Bell's position with her husband. Her behavior is very annoying. Also, it appears as though Carly's attitude is very different from book one.I'm not sure what's up with Bell's Mom.Thus far, I have been disappointed with the whole story.

4-0 out of 5 stars CinderBella
It's been five months since Bell turned thirty-five. Since, she's had two attempts on her life, met, fallen in love and married Lt. Jazz Brown, separated and is hiding a secret that threatens to end her life.

The drama is brewing in Bell's life as usual. Despite her estranged marriage and loyalties, Bell doesn't know how to resolve any of her own issues, though she's a gem when it comes to others problems. When Rocky shows up at her door, she's excited to have any semblance or normalcy back, even if it means going to see Ezekiel Thunder, a fallen Pentecostal pastor on the comeback trail.

Trying to bounce back, an intervention in her office leads her to her husband, who's recently befriended Jack Daniels. Uncertain about their future, Mr. and Mrs. Brown are trying to find a way to make amends as they find themselves trapped in the middle of yet another murder.

Bell is uncertain how to relate to Jazz and vice versa. The two obviously love one another, but with so much baggage from their pasts, they both need to learn to love and live together. Will they be able to get over this hurdle or has enough happened to get them to part ways?

An obvious fan of the Amanda Bell mystery series, I have to agree that book three is not as mysterious as the others. Still, it didn't distract from the storyline. I laughed, cheered and relished in the love that the characters share. A few editing issues, but the story is so amusing, inspiring and refreshing, that you can easily overlook them.
