Product Description
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is built upon a spirituality that celebrates the all-embracing love of God surrounding human life. In this, the fifth volume of the 'Forum Essays' series, Shawn Madigan questions whether our rites express this kind of spirituality. Madigan examines the different rites to see how each can guide spiritual direction before, during, and after its celebration; how inclusive its vision is of the reign of God; and what model of Church is promoted. Includes brief annotations and a selected bibliography to encourage further study. The Forum Essays series is a collaborative effort between LTP and The North American Forum on the Catechumenate. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for scholars to explore issues emerging from the implementation of the order of Christian initiation. Books in the series are excellent resources for the ongoing education of initiation teams and all parish ministers. Published by Liturgy Training Publications. ... Read more

Product Description
Our Sovereign Refuge is a study of the pastoral theology of Theodore Beza, the Protestant reformer who inherited the mantle of leadership in the Reformed church from John Calvin. Countering a common view of Beza as supremely a 'scholastic' theologian who deviated from Calvin's biblical focus, Wright uncovers a new portrait of Theodore Beza. Beza was not a cold and rigid academic theologian obsessed with probing the eternal decrees of God.

Rather, by placing Beza in his pastoral context and by noting his concerns in his pastoral and biblical treatises, Wright shows that Beza was fundamentally a committed Christian who was troubled by the vicissitudes of life in the second half of the sixteenth century. Beza believed that the biblical truth of the supreme sovereignty of God alone could support Christians on their earthly pilgrimage to heaven. This pastoral and personal portrait of Beza forms the heart of Wright's argument. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars superb
Presented as a series of case studies, this book illustrates what has been learned in these two theatres. It includes the lastest thinking on resuscitation, decision making at all levels of care, and provides examples of the thinking on the spot which can save life and limb (literally). If you are or might be involved in trauma surgery, read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding cases
The cases depicted in this book are remarkable, and the commentary is insightful and applicable to domestic trauma. This book is an outstanding addition to the libraries of surgeons, as well as members of the public who want an inside glimpse into the daily experiences of military trauma surgeons.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars
Amazing book. US Navy FMF Corpsman Approved. I first saw this book in training one of our senior Doc's had a copy, shortly after we had all acquired our own.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Special Kind of War
Wars are fought for a variety of reasons. The products of battle are never glorious and invariably involve suffering for a cause, or simply because soldiers are ordered into battle. This classic book shows the results of a war incited by delusion and maintained by hate. Far different from projectile wars, these wars are intended to maim and destroy by means that are beyond any civilized concept of combat. The ingenious measures taken in the operating rooms cannot be taught in lecture halls but must be experienced and perfected by trial and error in the face of life threatining injuries and must be planned so that the young victims of madness may have a hope of survival, even with limbs or organs missing. The only thing lacking is the metallic taint of blood or sweet smell of brain dashed from it's cradle..
This premier account does not gild any lillies or announce the freedom and liberty of Iraqis. Read it, or at least look at it to see how "modern" wars work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding work
The Authors and Editors of this book have really put together an outstanding piece of work that should not only be extremely useful to military and civilian trauma surgeons but will also stand alone as a document to the incredible work being done in the current conflicts.(Disclaimer: - although I am not a listed contributor, I did help take care of some of the patients listed in the book)

This is a great resource for surgeons (especially if it has been a while since they were immersed in trauma) to look over on the 14+ hour flight to Kuwait. While it cannot cover every single injury that may be faced downrange, it will certainly cover the majority of situations and definitely get the trauma mindset in gear.Other great reads on that flight include Top Knife: Art and Craft in Trauma Surgeryand Operative Trauma Management.

There was some minor controversy regarding the publishing of this book (mostly due to the photographs and some descriptions of the mechanism of the injuries) but I am glad the Army Surgeon General supported this book and that it is available. Time will only tell what long term medical and surgical advances will come from this war, but this book is an excellent start.

4-0 out of 5 stars Representational art is back!!
I purchased this volume because one of my favorite artists is in it.Little did I know how good it would be.The pictures are vivid and crisp, think Rizzoli. And the art itself is a revelation. After living through so many years in which abstract painting dominated the art world, it was a head rush to be exposed to these highly accomplished, (usually surreal) representational works.Included are Jeremy Geddes (angry, funny, poke you in the eye and make you say "thanks"), David Bowers (Old Masters like perfectionism with Jagged Little Pill sensibility), Aleksander Balos (rigorous Russian detailing with classical themes, plopped into the early 21st century), HR Giger (makes Blade Runner look warm and fuzzy), Pavel Zacek (Chagall nods to Stalin), Vladimir Ovtcharov (Klimt courts Mephistopheles) and many others. The majority of works will fill you with awe; a few are best avoided right before bedtime (damn scary). ... Product Description
Do you remember that television commercial which portrayed men and women walking sideways as they were going about their daily affairs; that is until they “had a V-8,” which straightened out their gait and had them walking upright again? Well, as Christians, we are much like those people, only we end up sideways in our spiritual lives. This book will show how we can take our “V-8” as given to us in Scripture so we may rebalance ourselves, which will allow us to once again walk upright. If we were to look at the contents label on a can of V-8, we would see that there are some ingredients that were mixed together in precise proportions which make the drink effective. In God’s Word, we find the same thing. This book explains the precise order in which we are to “stack the building blocks” as laid out in Scripture, so we can be successful and in balance in our Christian lives. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Exposing Religious Strongholds In The Church
This book debunks the myth of tithing.
No longer is tithing made to be a cure all or a magic fix it contract.
The convenant we have as Christians is the blood Covenant.
This is the one true covenant of Christianity.
It is covered extensively. Scripture is used and is not confusing or between the lines. I like the father son/daughter outlook giving favor instead of it coming by money.
I liked grace being uncovered.
There is balance giving full credence to the scripture about supporting the minister. However it's free will offering and it's made clear it's not about stopping tithing but seeing where the real blessings lie; and that's in the blood!
I recommend it hightly!

4-0 out of 5 stars Exposing Religious Strongholds in the Church
Great book! 'Exposing...'is a book that makes you take a look at your relationship with the Lord in contrast to your relationship to your church or pastor. It emphasizes knowing God first and seeking for the truth inwhat the church is teaching. It is controversial in some topics showingthem in a new light. It is definitely worth reading...I know several peopleI would share it with! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great movie for the whole family
The Secrets of the Mountain is a story about a real family with real problems.

Somewhere between the demands of her career, her ex husband's wedding, and her kids busy schedules, Dana James (mom) realizes that her family is starting to fall apart. She is stressed. The older kids are constantly fighting. They aren't spending any quality time together as a family. Her family is crumbling before her eyes. When a mysterious buyer offers to purchase the family's mountain property, Dana jumps at the chance to head away from the stress of the day-to-day life and get away. She's hoping this little get away will be just what her family needs to pull together.Little did she know what surprises this trip would hold.Nothing is what it seems. The mountain holds an ancient secret. Will her family survive the ancient mystery of the mountain?

Secrets of the Mountain is a movie that held many twists and turns and held our attention for the whole movie. My daughter thought that it was a like a kid-friendly Indiana Jones type movie.I appreciated that it was a solid movie with good acting and no inappropriate material. My husband thought is was great to be able to watch an action/adventure movie that was suitable for our entire family.

While not an issue for us, I do need to mention that there are skeletons shown at one point in the movie, so this may be scary for some children. In addition, the beginning of the movie shows a vehicle crash.Once again, while this was not a big deal for us, I wanted to bring it to your attention.

It was refreshing to watch a movie that focused on the family and building good family relationships. It shows the importance of standing up for family and forgiveness for past mistakes.

Disclosure: I received a copy of this movie in exchange for an honest review.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Family Movie
This is a great film for families to enjoy together. It emphasizes the value of relationships and standing up for friend/family members. This film may not be appropriate for really little children; there are a couple scenes that are rather graphic (human remains etc.). I recommend parents to view the film before letting really small kids about 7 and under to watch it. But all in all a very good movie. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Work of Love
At the Name of Jesus Christian Poems provides a spiritual roadmap for those who walk tall in their faith and for those who have slammed into discouraging dead ends. Reed infuses the book with compassion as he guides readers to the light he has come to know. His enthusiasm and energy are contagious in many of the pieces, and those seeking to strengthen their Christian ties find the boost they need in Reed's work. At other places in the book, a reflective, grateful tone reminds readers why Jesus' love can be such a powerful gift. The following poem, "At Midnight," illustrates his style.

Jesus, you are my new song when I am in old pain;/ Even when I am sure that I suffer and labor in vain;/ You give me hope when others have left me for dead;/ It is at midnight that you raise up my bowed down head./ Jesus, you are my power source when my lights have gone out;/ Even when I am in sin and guilty beyond a doubt;/ You are a lamp to my feet when others chain me in jail;/ It is at midnight that you blaze my life a new trail.

At the Name of Jesus Christian Poems is a work of love by a man with a passionate message to share and lights the way for those seeking to walk Christ's path.

5-0 out of 5 stars Economics
One of the best expositions on economics in years. Dr. Ritenour has presented materials (articles, lectures, etc.) on [...], however, that work is complied in this one text. It could be a classroom text, a Sunday School text, and/or supplementary for most laymen. Shawan takes complex elements of economics but builds a strong foundation based on an ethical/Biblical approach as to how to filter the raw "dismal" concepts. From the story of the talents through Aristotle and Aquinas, the subject of economics becomes richer and deeper than merely supply and demand curve and multipliers. Well-done Dr. Ritenour....another I hope to see soon. ... Read more

Product Description

The power of the Web lies in the fact that anyone and everyone can access it, and this should also extend to users with disabilities. Accessibility is about making websites accessible to those with aural, visual, or physical disabilities, or rather, constructing websites that dont exclude these people from accessing the content or services provided.

This isn't difficult to accomplish and doesn't require anything more than your normal tool set-HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Flash, or whatever else. All you need to do is use these tools in the right way, and bear in mind the guidelines that exist to help you keep your websites accessible and the laws that enforce web accessibility around the world.

This book gives you all you need to know about web accessibility, whether you are a web designer or developer who wants your sites to be accessible, or a business manager who wants to learn what impact the web accessibility laws have on your websites.

After an overview of the accessibility law and guidelines, and a discussion about accessibility and its implementation in the enterprise, the book goes on to show how to implement accessible websites using a combination of concise references and easy-to-follow examples, covering:

  • Understanding assistive technologies
  • Creating accessible content using XHTML, JavaScript, CSS, Flash, and PDFs
  • Testing against WCAG (including 2.0) and Section 508
  • Retrofitting inaccessible sites where necessary

The book concludes with an in-depth analysis of accessibility law around the world. If youre concerned about the legal and moral implications of web accessibility, then this book is perfect for you. It is written by some of the world's experts on accessibility, leaving you in good hands.

Summary of Contents:

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference Source
There are a number of books on the topic of accessibility and many focus on web accessibility or if not, dedicate many pages to the topic.Accessibility is often, as in this book explained in terms of why it should be done and provides overviews of technology closely tied to the reasons for accessibility. The ties to usability in general are secondary.Yet, for the programmer and designer, there comes that point in wading through all those pages where there is a need to know the methods and practices. In this book, one should be willing to skim the chapters first to become aware of where this break occurs, the break between exploring and exposing reasons and actually digging into the meat of methods and practices. Be forgiving, in that no book on this topic can cover all the bases. In particular, to evaluate for example, a reader or some other prosthetic or assistive device, no general book on accessibility is apparently going to cut it.The nice thing is that this book like others on accessibility, does provide web references to sources of info and expounded detail on those devices and other sources of info that the book cannot practically go into detail to cover. So, the book is a good reference, if one does not just read it cover to cover and chuck it on a shelf. The trick in these books is to actually make an exercise of looking up those references and researching the material provided by those sites.

Accessibility is such a diverse and important topic, that one actually should not rely on any single book. This is a good book, but supplement it with a couple others to get contrasting viewpoints and info covered that this book lacks. Check out all the references.Be willing to dig and dig and dig and try out the methods and practices. It has been notable to me after reading through about four different books on Accessibility that one is not enough. If one starts with this book, absorb the material, but radiate outward; check out the referenced materials and read some additional books, whether those compliment or expound upon the valuable material you'll find in this one.Dig into some other related topic books, like Human Factors, HCI and books regarding Usability, User Interfaces and User Experience. The topic of accessibility really is much larger than one might expect.Surely it larger than just coding alt text into web pages.

This book and others are valuable sources, but if one exposes themselves to several concurrently, the variation of viewpoints, methods and practices will quickly become evident.

Get the big picture. This book is a great reference source, but it is recommended to supplement it, supplement it and engage in practicing what it and other books preach.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast delivery - like-new condition
Excellent service. Received the item really quickly and it is in perfect condition. Would definitely order from this vendor again! Thanks!

5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate reference for ADA compliance
Excellent resource for ADA compliance. The requirements for ADA are so complicated that without a book like this it would be difficult if not impossible to understand what is compliant and what is not.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding. Absolutely every web developer and website owner needs to own this.
This text book is of very high quality and an engaging read. Apart from the expected target audience of web developers, I will suggest that website owners and non-developers should consider getting hold of this vital textbook.

The fact that it leaves you wanting more is a compliment to its quality. Even though it is bulky, I wished it had covered certain areas in more detail.

One small criticism relates to the javascript examples. The discussion of events refers to techniques that are questionable in terms of robustness and re-usability, issues that, to be fair, the author does point out. [Background; search for "addEvent considered harmful" in your favorite search engine.] Yet no definitive solution is given, and the reader is left hanging. More serious is the very poor quality javascript code sample given for the cssjs() utility function, which is poorly designed (needs to be repackaged, should be a class), is inefficient, and is fragile as it contains (at least) two immediately apparent critical bugs.

But such small gripes should on no account not put you off buying this text. The overall verdict, "Outstanding."

Anyway, the numerous authors are to be congratulated. Indeed, given the size of the field and the rapid pace of developments, a second "part II - advanced" volume would be a very good idea indeed.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Strong Book
If you are serious about accessibility (and you should be), this book will not dissapoint. The authors know what they are talking about, and do a good job and presenting both the facts and their opinions in a clear relavent way.

The only reasons I do not give it 5 stars is many items within the book are redundant (I think due to the great number of authors (11!), and perhaps they wanted the book to serve as a reference also), and because the presentation is generally dry. Good information, but not coffee-table reading.

Still in all, as a web developer I would highly reccomend this book to any other developer weather you just want a little understanding of accessibility, or a big dose. ... Read more
