5-0 out of 5 stars Miss Odell
To really see what it was like to live with a Beatle and more, lots more, this is one of the greatest books I have read in a long time. Miss Odell, you are one lucky person!! I found this book to be like you were on the inside of the Beatles story and more on other groups, such as the Stones, Crosby, Still, Nash and Young. It keeps on coming. I was in awe of this book. Great job Chris Odell!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars who knows?Miss O'dell does
Of course being a Beatles, Stones, Led Zeppelin, Queen, and Bob Dylan fan forever, when I heard Chris O'dell interviewed on KQRS radio telling of her book and what went on with these artists and more I was intrigued to say the least.I hooked up with the audio book as soon as I could and here's what I thought and hope this will help you to make your purchase:

I really liked that the life history was told with a time line from the beginning night in Chris's apartment to present day current adventures. It was read with conviction and great voice that made it a pleasure to listen to and look forward to your next listen.I found myself cheering along for Chris as she made decisions in what to do next in her life and how you wanted events to turn out for her and others.Okay, the mainest reason as stated earlier I wanted to hear about these artists and what they were about and Chris delivered and more!I really did get a better sense for who these artists are as people like you and me as we're all famous in our walk of life too!

Enjoy too!

5-0 out of 5 stars MUST READ
I have known Kathy Ketcham all my life and she never has let me down on any material that she has ever written.Ms O'Dell is a novel which I was never expecting to love.I have never really been interested in the beattles, but who knew so much passion was behind the music, who knew that the life they showed to America was true love for fans and for life.Ms O'Dell will keep you up at night with the excitment that the next page brings.I loved this book and trust me I am a book critic. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
The tab is right on, and really what else is there to say. If you're reading this review you already know what a great album this is.This tab has really helped me learn blues guitar.Don't hesitate.Get this. You won't regret it.

5-0 out of 5 stars great way to learn your blues chops
i have been studying blues guitar for the last 2 years now. i've a number of books on the subject. i've progressed reasonably working with them.

then i got this book. learnt a couple of songs. and my playing has simply jumped a notch!

yeah because i'm playing what i want to play - being a huge clapton fan (bluesbreakers, cream etc). plus clapton is playing in such ways i never encountered in the tutorial books. his chops are simpler but much more effective. but some of his runs are quite difficult - not the mere playing of the notes, but the effect created by such.

i'm never going to play what's in the tutorial books anywhere - but this is what i want to play and it is such great fun doing it.

i can't comment too much on the accuracy of the tab - it sounds ok - trying to figure out the notes with the actual solos is itself quite a job - i recorded all the solos of this album in triplicate on a tape to use them as a reference. but guess it will get easier as i progress.

it would be very helpful if you know atleast some basic blues - the 12 bar, the pentatonics etc. needless to say, as with all blues learning, one should focus on the tonic (1st), the dominant (4th) and sub-dominant (5th) notes and the way they are manipulated to create the blues effect.

if you want to play like clapton get this.

btw i wish somebody would publish similar tabs of the music of the great peter green - his album with mayall 'a hard road' and his early fleetwood mac material as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential for any blues guitarist
i play along with the recordings, the tabs are dead on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clapton is God and So is Mayall
Anyone wanting to learn core Clapton needs this book.It is well done with most tab appearing to be right on.Obviously some songs are Harp based, with Mayall laying down soem of his best work.Love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars great tabs

4-0 out of 5 stars It Fits My Bill
This booklet published before Eric Clapton released Pilgrim. It serves the purpose of outling each of Eric Clapton's songs and a summary of their recordings.A very detailed description of each track is given. I especially enoy the descriptions of Eric's guitar styles on many of the songs. Helpful for those debating whether to purchase a particular recording.Yes, there are some slight biases. However, the author does not make his opinion too overbearing. And besides most of his thoughts are pretty compatible with mine.A nice pocket size booklet for Eric Clapton fans. ... Product Description

Eric Clapton's position as the world's greatest rock guitarist is unlikely to change in our lifetime. His career over the past four decades has been closely followed by millions of fans, as a member of the influential Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Derek and the Dominoes, and for many years as a highly successful solo artist. He has a vast catalogue behind him. His rise to guitar hero in the 60s led to a much documented involvement with drugs. The historic Rainbow concert marked the beginning of his return. His turbulent marriage to Patti Boyd was another media favorite. Ultimately it is Clapton's music and complete mastery of the electric guitar which is his most important attribute. Unavailable for several years, Shapiro's earlier study, Slowhand, established itself as one of the classics of rock biography. Here the life is fully reappraised and brought up-to-date to cover the tragic death of Clapton's son, Conor, in 1991 and includes a complete discography and many previously unpublished photographs.

5-0 out of 5 stars My husband loved this!
This was a gift for my husband, who is a huge Eric Clapton fan.He was VERY pleased with this!!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Lost in The Reproduction
I'm in the middle of writing a piece on the blues boom of the '60's and am reading all I can on the principal players. After reading Clapton's auto biography, I ordered two more Clapton books, STRANGE BREW and LOST IN THE BLUES. I discovered to my displeasure that LOST is little more than a reprint of his previous book with a new title and some new pictures. Though the text is breezy it's (still) loaded with factual errors. As a professional musician and historian I'm always leery of musical talks in books like these...there's a lot of rehashing of myths. That would be OK if there were anything like new quotes in the book, which there aren't. At least the ghost- written/edited autobiography had some personal insights into the man himself..precious little on music though. What is the worst thing about LOST is the dark, over-inked photographs, possibly the worst photographic reproductions ever to be offered by a legitimate publishing house. Having spentmany a year as a photographer myself I wonder where quality control was for this project? Who OK'd this mess? I'd love to see these new images reproduced with the care they deserve. I'm almost tempted to give it ONE STAR...maybeONE AND A HALF...the delightfully obsessive STRANGE BREW is a better buy for my money.Eric Clapton: Lost in the Blues ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Clapton's Early Years Mostly Accurately Transcribed Although Not Perfect!
I've seen too many guitar tab books over the years to remember and I've learned that only a handful are truly excellent in terms of accuracy, ease of reading and overall use and these tend to be the ones that remain in my music library over time. For this reason, I'm usually tolerant of minor errors that are easily glossed over and that can be figured out myself as I play along with the cd with relative ease. This particular tab book on the early works of Eric Clapton as presented in the first 2 cds of the 4 disc Crossroads box set is a mixed bag.The transcriptions are mostly accurate although I have some different views with regards the choice of finger positions for certain tracks; these issues can come down to an individual preference issue and so I'm okay with it for the most part. For example, the guitar solo as transcribed for "A Certain Girl" isn't the optimal one as I feel the one I play sounds a lot more like the cd and is also a lot easier to play than the one in the book.

There is also a probably now dated essay on Clapton's life by Anthony DeCurtis a Senior Writer for Rolling Stone Magazine as well as another essay by the transcriber, Fred Sokolow, himself on Clapton's guitar stylings which is a nice-to-have and which is rare for most guitar tab books. The book binding though isn't optimal as the pages close in on themselves easily and it's hard to read the notes that are close to the spine because of this. The biggest downer for me though is that the font size is very small making it very difficult to read and play along with the cd at the same time. This is a real shame as the transciber probably put in a lot of work on this project only for the publisher to significantly reduce the usefulness and hence quality of the work with thoughtless publishing.Obviously the publisher is no musician and so doesn't understand how to publish music books that help instead of hinder the musician.Let's just say that I'm surprised that the publisher is actually Hal Leonard.Get your magnifying glasses ready and prepare to do a lot of hard pressing and smoothing down of the pages to keep them in place risking the pages coming off the spine while you play if you want to dig into this otherwise decent attempt at transcibing the work of this great guitarist.
