5-0 out of 5 stars Clapton with an orchestra is great
This is great, though it would be better clapton did some more jamming with Robert Cray and Buddy Guy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Clapton & Co.'s Best Work
I have a lot of Eric Clapton DVDs, VHS concert tapes and, of course, CDs and this "24 Nights" holds a special place among all of them. It might be the pinnacle of Clapton's fantastic career. This is so good I have the DVD and the two-disc CD.

There are four segments to this concert, filmed over several days and I am partial to the second and third parts: the blues songs and then the nine-piece band numbers. Together, they are 51.5 minutes of some of the best music I have ever heard.

The bluesy "Running On Faith," the opening song of the disc in segment one, is a great start, a song that gets better and better over the years. On part two: the blues numbers, I particularly liked Clapton's guitar work on "Have You Ever Loved A Woman?" It's not bad having Buddy Guy and Robert Cray as your backup guitarists, either!

I found the 9-piece segment to be my favorite with one song alone - "Pretending" - having two of the greatest solos ever by Clapton. If that song doesn't get your blood moving, nothing will. "Old Love" has some nice solo work, too,by pianist Johnny Johnston, bassist Nathan East.. I've always enjoyed Eric's two female backup singers Katie Kisson and Tessa Niles and Kisson is really great with her solo at the end of "Wonderful Tonight."

The final segment, featuring a complete orchestra, has two great opening numbers and finishes with the only number I didn't care but, by then, I have more than my fill of great blues and rock 'n roll. However, it's still fun to see everyone dressed in black tie and evening gowns, anyway.
This concert never fails to amaze every time I watch it and hear it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Let me explain something....
First things first.I'm not the only one who ever saw Clapton, but I've seen a lot of concerts.I saw this show in New York.He played so long that we left (some had to work the next day) but his guitar playing wasn't good, great or fantastic. It was simply mesmerizing. He played for four hours (from what I could gather).

But for a DVD (or live cd) I suppose the artist has to fit some format (like keep each song under 15 minutes) for it to be packaged right for sale. Most live shows are "cut", I'm sure the artist knows they are filming for a recording and things have to be kept tight.

"24 Nights" is as close to a live Clapton show you will ever see.The DVD shows him playing.A lot of close up solo work--which , let's face it, is why you go to see Clapton! There are no interviews. There are no shots of the audience, There are no people holding lighters in the air.

Contrary to other "reviewers" that bemoan the fact that the dvd is not the same recording as the soundtrack album, I think that is a good thing for the reasons I mentioned. If you want a good sound, get the CD recording I guess, but if you want to see what a Clapton show is (or was) like, take a look here!It is really pretty close! Remember, a DVD requires you to SEE!We shouldn't be discussing sound quality here....and another thing.....the sound is not bad...this isn't a bootleg or anything.....maybe just not up to techno-geek requirements.

Bytheway, if I could get the real soundtrack to this dvd-(rather than the cd recording), I would. I consider it to be superior to the cd for the solo work.

Mind you, I am a guitar player who named his first son after Mr. Clapton so I may be biased (hahaha) but he plays so well, and there is so much to see, in terms of his playing, that I cannot watch the whole show in one sitting. It is like too much chocolate.I have to rest in the middle.

2-0 out of 5 stars Eric Clapton: 24 nights
Having read otherreviews on this DVD,re picture quality, contentand sound I do not think I would purchase the DVD considering the comments. The CD seems to be the one to buy and get quality for sound plus, from this fantastic musician and guitarist.

4-0 out of 5 stars Quality shines through
This is a fine recording of Claptons fabled London Albert Hall concerts from the early 90's.

Starting with the 4 piece band you get:
Running on Faith
White Room
Sunshine of your Love

Then the Blues Band:
Watch Yourself
Have you ever loved a woman
Worried life blues

Then the nine piece band:
Pretending
Bad love
Old Love
Wonderful Tonight

The Orchestra and band:
Bell Bottom Blues
Hard Times
Edge of Darkness

This all done very professionally and there are some great moments interspersed with just a few I could have done without. The live version of the 'Edge of Darkness' theme is tremendously powerful, and the Blues set is my favourite overall. This has Jonnie Johnson on Piano and Robert Cray and Buddy Guy on Guitar.

Well worth buying overall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eric is God, well almost
I have followed this man's music for years and enjoy reading about his career. He's not the fastest but he is probably the smoothist.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very well Written
All the Clapton Blues classic are included, very well written and easy to understand, but remember, Eric Clapton is not for beginners, for those who know what they are doing - becareful - you won't be able to stop :) at least I can't. Oh, yea, one more thing, for those who just started with the guitar and are dying to play some Eric Clapton, I strongly recommend buying the 'unplugged' book because he plays there with only one guitar, and it is easier to figure out. But for experts who are playing with friends this book is an excellent choice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Professional Clapton Playing
It has always been said around my place that if you can play a full set of layla (including the derek and the dominos segment) straight, you're pretty damn good guitarist. Truth is, though, until I got this book, I couldn't find a true transcription of the original Layla. So here you have it. Thebeautiful 22 pages of joy. Of course, Layla isn't the only piece of food onthe shiny plate. Besides such classics as "Knockin on Heaven'sDoor", "Cocaine", and "Alberta", LIFE IN THE BLUESoffers an extremely professional look at all of Claptons hits. If I haveany complaint, it is exactly that. Nearly all of the songs included arehits. But then agian, this is one of the only books that actually has allof these hits in Tablature form, not to mention Tabs for all of the guitarsthat are playing, in a professional manner. The book also includes a nicelittle discography, and a 'concise', as they call it, biography. Of coursethe biography is quick and short, with nothing but facts included. It'sabout 6 pages long. Overall, if you are serious about playing Clapton, thisshould deffinetly be a book to get. It's also great for keyboard (andincludes lyrics). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A thoroughly enjoyable book.
Marc Roberty, author of this impressive and enjoyable book, quotes actor Dan Aykroyd's summarization of Eric Clapton:"The Bluesbreakers, Blind Faith, Cream, Derek and The Dominos -- Ladies and gentlemen, who was the cohesive force behind all these powerhouse bands? He's been called a blues man, he is synonymous with the words electric guitar.Very simply, very finely -- Mr. Eric Clapton!"

"Slowhand" traces Eric Clapton's life story from his first guitar, a Spanish Hoya purchased for him by his grandparents in the mid 1950's, to his spectacular "24 Nights" at the Royal Albert Hall in 1991.The narrative deftly highlights major events in Clapton's life, as well as his constantly shifting and changing musical direction.Swept up by the psycheadelic sixties, propelled into the 1970's on a wave of drugs and unrequieted love, lost to the world through two years of isolation, Clapton skipped from wave to wave following his brave musical instincts. And though he helped change the face of rock music during his years with Cream, Blind Faith, and Derek and the Dominos, he never strayed too far from his blues roots.During his solo years in the 1970's, he incorporated reggae and country into his style, with songs like "I Shot the Sheriff" and "Tulsa Time".Along the way, he recorded songs by blues legends such as Robert Johnson ("Crossroads Blues"), Willie Dixon ("Evil"), and Jimmy Reed ("Ain't That Lovin' You").

Roberty includes discographies from each phase of Clapton's career, as well as listing his tours and session appearances. He includes information about guitars and instruments Clapton used. And he lists major videos Clapton has appeared in.The book is also full of photographs and art reproductions. Not a single page is dull.

Eric Clapton received six Grammys in 1992, for his "Unplugged" album. In 1994 he released a long awaited blues-only album. And in 1998 he continues his musical journey with a new album, appropriately titled "Pilgrim"."Slowhand: The Life and Music of Eric Clapton" traces his formulative steps toward the pinnacle he has achieved, today. ... Product Description
CHRIS O’DELL WASN’T FAMOUS. SHE WASN’T EVEN ALMOST FAMOUS. BUT SHE WAS THERE.

* She was in the studio when the Beatles recorded The White Album, Abbey Road, and Let It Be, and she sang in the “Hey Jude” chorus.

* She lived with George Harrison and Pattie Boyd and unwittingly got involved in Pattie’s famous love story with Eric Clapton.

* She’s the subject of Leon Russell’s “Pisces Apple Lady.”

* She worked for the Rolling Stones on their infamous 1972 tour and did a drug run for Keith Richards.

* She’s “the woman down the hall” in Joni Mitchell’s song “Coyote,” the “mystery woman” pictured on the Stones album Exile on Main Street, and the “Miss O’Dell” of George Harrison’s song.

The remarkable, intimate story of an ordinary woman who lived the dream of millions—to be part of rock royalty’s inner circle—Miss O’Dell is a backstage pass to some of the most momentous events in rock history. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT STORIES TOLD BY A TRUE INSIDER
A fun book to read if you're a fan of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan or Leon Russell. Not as much fun if you're an Eric Clapton or Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young fan as they don't come off quite as well! But the author's honesty about her experiences are what make the book so worthwhile. I had the pleasure of interviewing Chris O'Dell about the book on my "Friends of Dan Music Podcast" which you can find at the iTunes store. In addition to her musical experiences her book also discusses her drug experiences and her close friendships with Pattie Boyd Harrison Clapton, Maureen Starkey, Derek Taylor, Peter Asher and others. Highly recommended for fans of 60's music! ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Eric Clapton's Rainbow Concert is an album recorded live at London's Rainbow Theatre on January 13, 1973, and released within the year. The concert was organized by Pete Townshend and marked Eric Clapton's comeback after the 1971 Concert for Bangladesh. In the year after the Rainbow Concert, Clapton recovered from his heroin addiction and recorded 461 Ocean Boulevard. This concert is the first live performance where Clapton used his famous Stratocaster guitar "Blackie". A remastered expanded edition of the album was released on January 13 1995, the 22nd anniversary of the original concert. A bootleg edition, Eric Clapton and the Palpitations - The Rainbow Concert, 25th Anniversary Edition, was released by the underground label Empress Valley, four CDs of both concerts on January 13, 1973 (the official releases are a mix of songs from both concerts). ...
