Product Description
Cassie spends her days watching Grandfather and Caleb in the barn, looking out at Papa working the fields, spying on Sarah feeding the goslings. She's an observer, a writer, a storyteller. Everything is as it should be.

But change is inevitable, even on the prairie. Something new is expected, and Sarah says it will be the perfect gift. Cassie isn't so sure. But just as life changes, people change too. And Cassie learns that unexpected surprises can bring great joy.

More Perfect than the Moon invites us back to the Witting family farm, visited in the Newbery Medal-winning Sarah, Plain and Tall; Skylark; and Caleb's Story. With her lyrical prose, Patricia MacLachlan writes about a family's boundless capacity for love.

5-0 out of 5 stars More perfect than the moon
I think More perfect than the Moon is a great book for people who like to learn about prairie life and problems people could have had living in the prairie. It tells the story of a little girl who is youngest in her family but finds out she is going to get another sibling. She calls it a terrible baby and says she will not love the baby. But she might grow to love the baby when it arrives. Read it to find out the rest of the story.

5-0 out of 5 stars More perfect than...well...the moon
Lovely book.Patricia MacLachlin has added another window into the lives of the Witting family using the eyes of Cassie. The interactions between Cassie - the youngest child - and her Mother Sarah are strong and sincere.

Eight-year-old Cassie has trouble coping when she learns Sarah is having another baby.Sarah responds to the child's uncertainty and anger with so much love and understanding that Cassie realizes her mother is on her side too.The ending of the book is sheer poetry.Parents who have a new baby coming might consider using this book to help older children cope.

A short but powerful book.

5-0 out of 5 stars More Perfect than the Moon: Review by Ava Cohen (age 8)
More Perfect than the Moon is a story about an eight-year-old girl named Cassie. I liked this book a lot because it was fun to read. Cassie was my favorite character because she is nice to everyone in her family and she is always happy until the very end. I recommend this book everyone, especially to seven and eight-year-old girls. This book is interesting and the story could happen to any normal girl. It is a very good book and you should read it.

5-0 out of 5 stars More Perfect Than the Moon

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent next chapter
to the series "Sarah,Plain and Tall." It is read by Glenn Close which makes the audio version perfect. Baby grows up to find out she isn't going to be the last baby in the house! She goes through a few transitions of whether she wants to have a new one in the house or not. The ending is - More Perfect than the Moon! ... Read more

Product Description
PURPOSE
1-1. Combatives, the art of hand-to-hand combat, bridges the gap between physical training and tactics. The products of a good physical training plan—strength, endurance, and flexibility—must be directed
toward the mission, and Soldiers must be prepared to use different levels of force in an environment where the intensity of a conflict changes quickly. Many military operations, such as peacekeeping missions or noncombatant evacuation, may restrict the use of deadly weapons. Combatives training saves lives when an unexpected confrontation occurs.

1-2. Combatives training includes arduous physical training that is mentally demanding and carries over to other military pursuits. This training produces Soldiers who—
Understand controlled aggression and remain focused while under duress.

Possess the skills requisite to the mission, at all levels in the spectrum of force.

Have the attributes that make up the Warrior Ethos—
personal courage, self-confidence, self-discipline, and esprit de corps.

1-3. Throughout modern history, attempts to build a successful combatives system have failed or have been met with limited success. This has happened for several reasons. Quite naturally, commanders desire a system that doesn’t require any training time to learn and maintain. Further, training has often been conducted by experts in civilian martial arts. These experts use training methodologies that are designed more for the civilian hobbyist than the realities of war.

1-4. Often, combatives training has been approached by allowing a Soldier versed in a civilian martial art to use a limited amount of training time, usually during another course (such as initial entry training [IET] or specialist training), to teach a useful technique. Blinded by his civilian training, the trainer demonstrates what he thinks are simple, effective, and easy-to-learn techniques selected based on a
situation Soldiers may find themselves in or the tactical niche of the specialist training. He teaches the Soldiers these techniques, but due to the limited amount of training time, the Soldiers quickly forget them.
To overcome these tendencies, a combatives training system must be based on certain principles, and then maintained. These principles are—

Systematic training.
Foundation.
Continuous training.
Competition.
Drills.
Live training.
Integrated training.
Combat feedback.

SYSTEMATIC TRAINING
1-5. Learning to fight is a process, not an event. To be effective, combatives training must be part of a system. Until Soldiers learn the techniques that form the system's foundation, they are unprepared for
follow-on training; short cuts or teaching Soldiers “what they need to know” is counterproductive, much as advanced tactical training is counterproductive if a Soldier has not first been taught how to operate his weapon. Army combatives training must be based in a system that both lays a foundation of abilities that Soldiers take with them
wherever they are assigned and is flexible enough to fit the wide range of specialized missions Soldiers and units are asked to perform.

FOUNDATION
1-6. Army institutional training should build a foundation for combatives training. Training should concentrate on the fundamentals of the combatives system—from learning basic combatives techniques
in IET and advanced individual training (AIT) to leading a successful unit program in the leadership courses of the Noncommissioned Officer Education System (NCOES) and Officer Education System (OES).

CONTINUOUS TRAINING
1-7. Combatives training must not end upon graduation from a training course. For Soldiers to develop their abilities, the majority of the training must happen outside of the institutional training
environment. Units must develop their own combatives programs to spur troop involvement and encourage commanders to invest resources. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Skylark, (Sarah Plain and Tall)
I purchased this for my sons 3rd grade class. The kids in the class seem to really be enjoying the book as they talked and studied colonies and praire life. I highly recommend it. It seems like a good jump for kids transitioning to chapter reading as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful story
My children (ages 5 and 7) and I adored this book and ended up buying the series and watching the dvd which was also awesome (starring Glenn Close and Christopher Walken). The story is touching, emotional at times and very sweet. The characters are easy to love.

4-0 out of 5 stars Skylark Takes Off
This well written sequel to Sarah, Plain and Tall is a page-turner. Readers can't wait to find out what happens next to their beloved family on the plains. The dreaded drought causes much hardship; no water for the livestock, wells going dry, families leaving their farms, and the barn fire. Sarah and the children flee to Maine, her birthplace, to wait out the drought in safety. Luckily, the drought ends and Jacob goes to Maine to retrieve his family, including the newly pregnant Sarah! Patricia Maclachlan's writing is beautiful; full of imagery and feeling. It's easy to identify with these well-rounded characters.

Product Description

Anna has done something terrible. She has given me her journal to fill. In Anna's journal the words walk across the page like bird prints in the mud. But it is hard for me. It is hard for me to find things to write about.

"It's your job now," Anna says as she hands Caleb her journals, asking him to continue writing the family story. Caleb fears there will be nothing left to write about, until a mysterious old man is discovered in the barn. Everyone is excited about the arrival of a new family member except for Jacob, who holds a bitter grudge. Only the special love of Caleb and the gift he offers can help to mend the pain of the past.

Caleb's Story continues the saga begun by the Newbery Medal-winning Sarah, Plain and Tall and its sequel, Skylark, spinning a tale of love, forgiveness and the ties that bind a family together.

The Book Caleb's Story Tells About How A Boy And A Girl Were Playing Tag Then Finds A Man Sleeping Behind Their Barn.Later In The Story It Talks About How That Boy And That Girl Find Out That That Man Was Their Grandfather.Meanwhile It Definds How They Discover That Grandfather Was Taking Pain killers For His Heart. At The End It Talks About How Grandfather Passes Away Because Of His Heart Trouble. My Personal Opinon Of The Book Is Great.I Like How The Author Puts A Lot Of Details In The Story. What I Didn't Like Is How The Author Desribes The Grandfather Death.

Do you like Patric MacLachan's books? If you do, you might heard the book Calebs Story. This book is about a boy named Caleb who keeps a journal on what goes on in his life. One day Caleb was feeding and beding the animals, when all of a sudden he was at a stall and saw a strang horse, at the same time he heard a humans voice. At supper he found out it was his grandfather. I wounder why his father was mad at his grandfather, but soon found out the reason. The reason was Caleb grandfather never sent a letter wich made his dad think that Calebs grandfather was died. This reasonwas the grandfather never knew how to read or write, beause he didnt go to school. I can realate to Caleb because I didnt now who my anount was and then found out who she was.
