Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In Utero is the third and final studio album by the American grunge band Nirvana, released on September 13, 1993, on DGC Records. Nirvana intended the record to diverge significantly from the polished production of its previous album, Nevermind. To capture a more abrasive and natural sound, the group hired producer Steve Albini to record In Utero during a two-week period in February 1993 at Pachyderm Studio. The music was recorded quickly with few studio embellishments, and the song lyrics and album packaging incorporated medical imagery that conveyed frontman Kurt Cobain's outlook on his publicized personal life and his band's newfound fame. Soon after recording was completed, rumors circulated in the press that DGC might not release the album in its original state, as the record label felt that the result was not commercially viable. Although Nirvana publicly denied the statements, the group was not fully satisfied with the sound Albini had captured. Albini declined to alter the album further, and ultimately the band hired Scott Litt to make minor changes to the album's sound and remix the singles "Heart-Shaped Box" and "All Apologies". ... Excerpt: "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is a song by the American rock band Nirvana. It is the opening track and lead single from the band's second album, Nevermind (1991), released on DGC Records. Written by Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl and produced by Butch Vig, the song uses a verse-chorus form where the main four-chord riff is used during the intro and chorus to create an alternating loud and quiet dynamic. The unexpected success of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" in late 1991 propelled Nevermind to the top of the charts at the start of 1992, an event often marked as the point where alternative rock entered the mainstream. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was Nirvana's first and biggest hit, reaching number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and placing high on music industry charts all around the world in 1991 and 1992. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" received many critical plaudits, including topping the Village Voice Pazz & Jop critics' poll and winning two MTV Video Music Awards for its music video, which was in heavy rotation on music television. The song was dubbed an "anthem for apathetic kids" of Generation X, but the band grew uncomfortable with the success and attention it received as a result. In the years since Cobain's death, listeners and critics have continued to praise "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as one of the greatest rock songs of all time. Chapters: Kurt Cobain, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, Pat Smear, Dale Crover, Chad Channing, Jason Everman, Dan Peters, Aaron Burckhard, Dave Foster, Big John Duncan. Excerpt:Aaron Burckhard is an American musician who was the first drummer recruited for Kurt Cobain 's rock group that soon came to be known as Nirvana . Burckhard played drums for the band until December 1987. Burckhard was no longer a part of Nirvana by the time band recorded their first demo at Reciprocal Recordings in Seattle on January 23, 1988 (Dale Crover of The Melvins served as his replacement). Burckhard's dismissal purportedly came as a result of his volatile nature which propelled him into frequent physical confrontations with people. An additional complaint against Burckhard was that he did not take his membership with the band as seriously as Kurt Cobain wanted him to. Burckhard frequently skipped practice, which infuriated Cobain. The last straw occurred when Burckhard got Cobain's car impounded after getting arrested for fighting with a police officer. Burckhard's drumming can be heard on the first disc of Nirvana's With the Lights Out . He played at the band's first live show, which was a 1987 house party in Raymond, Washington . He also played drums for an April 17, 1987 radio broadcast on KAOS. Burckhard also recorded material with the band in one of its earliest practice spaces in the summer of 1987. One of the tracks from this summer of '87 recording was officially released on With the Lights Out under the title of "Mrs. Butterworth." Perhaps the most interesting track from the summer 1987 recordings features Burckhard playing drums on a cover of Cher 's "Gypsys, Tramps ... Read more
