Product Description
Written during award-winning pediatrician Dr. Scott W. Cohen’s first year as a father, this book is the only one to combine two invaluable “on the job” perspectives—the doctor’s and the new parent’s.The result is a refreshingly engaging and informative guide that includes all you need to know at each age and stage of your child’s first year. Drawing on the latest medical recommendations and his experiences at home and in the office, Dr. Cohen covers everything from preparing for your baby’s arrival to introducing her to a new sibling, to those three basic functions that will come to dominate a new parent’s life. Eat, Sleep, Poop addresses questions, strategies, myths, and all aspects of your child’s development. In each instance, Dr. Cohen provides a thorough overview and a simple answer or explanation: a “common sense bottom line,” yet he doesn’t dictate. The emphasis is on doing what is medically sound and what works best for you and your baby. He also includes fact sheets, easy-to-follow diagnosis and treatment guides, and humorous daddy vs. doctor sidebars that reveal the learning curve during his fi rst year as a dad.Lively, practical, and reassuring, Eat, Sleep, Poop provides the knowledge you need to parent with confidence, to relax and enjoy baby’s fi rst year, and to raise your child with the best tool a parent can have: informed common sense. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Handy reference from a doctor and a dad
The book is filled with lots of common sense, practical information which when you are dealing with a new experience you may tend to forget. Also if you haven't had much experience with babies prior to your own this book can be a god send.If you have fear of doing things wrong, not knowing what to do or not having a cluewhich way to go then this book maybe for you as it makes a great reference guide to start answering those types of questions.

The tone of the book is warm and with a touch of humor. None of the medical coldness you would think of in terms of when a doctor is writing the book. The fact that he is a doctor does give him a very self-assured tone to what he is saying in the book but if he came off any other way I would be second guessing some of this.

You want that assurance.

4-0 out of 5 stars grain of salt
Everyone thinks they know what's best for your kid, including Dr Cohen and more than a few people who have already reviewed this book.

So take every baby-book with a grain of salt. Just remember, your parents didn't read any books on how to raise you, and you turned out fine.

The point of reading baby-books is put YOU at ease. The objective is to amass as much knowledge as you can so when baby strikes, you hope you know what to do.

I won't give away any of his tips, but know this: the book is short, it's easy to read, it convinces you that you've actually got a shot at raising your baby right.

BOTTOM LINE: A calm collected parent that uses reason is a good parent. This book aims to help you do that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Advice from a Dad and Doctor
Written in simple terms, "Eat Sleep Poop" is a handy reference that can be easily read even by those that do not like to read.Cohen gives practical advice in each of the chapters, which are organized in a very logical manner. As an expectant father, I found the information useful and even enjoyed Cohen's humor. As a father and pediatrician, Cohen is not ashamed to admit his foibles with his baby.

Chapters in the book include preparing for the baby, welcoming the baby home, examinations, feeding, sleep, pooping, crying, developmental milestones, illness, vaccines, and fun.I particulary enjoyed the chapter on preparing for the baby.Cohen is blunt in noting that just because it is available does not mean your baby needs it.Also of particular value is the vaccination chapter in which Cohen debunks the autism myth.

Most baby books seems to be written for the expectant mom. However, I really believe that a father can read this book and benefit from it.As an expectant father, it did cause me to ask certain questions of my doctor.Based on this, there is no better thing to say about this book than that is better prepared me for the day.

5-0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this book, especially for a new mothers
I skimmed this book and I can't find anything I disagree with.So far I've purchased two for my relatives to share the knowledge.

I highly recommend this book, especially for a new mother.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, especially for Men!
As a father of a 5 month old, I can tell you that the number of baby books lining our shelves easily spills out into the dozens.I can also tell you the number of books I have actually read, and that list fits more neatly on one hand. This book is one of them. It's a verifiable first-year-parenting compendium, filled with lots of careful and technical explanations based not only on pediatrician experience but also "been there, done that" parenting experience.I still reference it occasionally and I'm sure as new phases of our baby's development unfold, I'll be turning back for more advice. This is definitely not a read it once kind of book, but better serves as a reference guide as your baby goes through different stages.I'm sure once the teething begins I'll be back looking for answers! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars I Wanted A Source Book, Not A Play...
Blood Treachery has an engaging premise. A second, modern war between Mages and Kindred. However, other than a thin section of crunchy bits in the very back of the book, very little useful information is cleanly delievered. The majority of the text is taken up by gaming fiction written in the style of a Greek Tragedy.

You're on your own for crafting the rules you wanted for Sphere vs. Discipline.

4-0 out of 5 stars Informative Despite shortcomings
As a Mage LARP Storyteller, I found this book to be very useful in helping me deal with the problem of vampires. (And in particular, a certain ghouled mage). The greek style drama about the Massasa War was both interesting and informative.

Other than giving information about the Order of Hermes' reaction to Tremere and vampires and general, Blood Treachery also gives some information on the Celestial Umbrood amd gives information on ghouled mages.

My only complaint really about this book is that it lacks Mind's Eye Theatre conversions. But the information packed into the book more than makes up for this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book! Except Stephen Michael DiPesa Co-Wrote it!
Using the framework of classic Greek drama for thefiction/metaplot parts, Cohen and DiPesa have put together the first compelling book of Mage's Revised Edition.

For some reason, even though he's listed on the cover, Mr. DiPesa gets no credit with Amazon. What is the deal with that?

4-0 out of 5 stars Must have for the mage inclined!
This book is a must have book, for those that want to do campaign s whereyou have mixed characters, or just want to give extra flavor to yourstories. It about time White Wolf released a book to explain in cleanerdetail, what really happened with the Tremere, what is all that broughtthem there, and how the Order of Hermes really feels about it. This isbesides the point of making rules for the revenant, ghoul mages... ... Read more

Product Description
"Java Web Services Unleashed" explores everything Java developers need for Web service development. Starting with the business considerations and roles of service-related technologies within the Java architecture, the authors then demonstrate applications using the "pillars" of Web service creation: SOAP, UDDI, and WSDL. Next, the book introduces the JAX* pack - a set of Java APIs for XML programming that ease and enhance service development - using real-world examples explaining the importance of each JAX* API. Later chapters include a series of larger case studies of service development using many Java technologies including JSP and EJB. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and money
I bought this, hoping to be able to use it on a web services project I'm doing.

I find it's completely out of date. Both Sun's JWSDP and Apache Axis have moved on since this was written, and you'll get better information from their websites than you'll get from this book.

Don't bother with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good JWS book !!!
I have never worked with Web Services, but I have strong skill in Java. This book has opened me a new and interesting frontears on this topic. The Axis webapp that is explained as a very usefull tool to start working and putting up your first Web Service.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good reference book to get you started.
Just as I stated in the title, it's a great book to start you with. It's written in a clear and precise manner where you could learn the basics of Java Web Services and not be intimidated by it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Obsolete book
Part 1(6 chapters) - Absolutely a waste of time, not worth a read. And the code examples are not related to JWSDP.

Part 2 (6 chapters) - Discusses on SOAP, UDDI and WSDL. The code discusses using a Older version of Apache SOAP and Apache Axis. The code needs a complete rewrite.

Part 3 - Discusses on JAXP, JAXB, JAXR, JAXM and JAXRPC. Good introductions but the JAXB chapter is based on DTD (which is obsoleted in the latest specs). JAXM and JAXRPC chapters just reproduces the Sun JWSDP tutorial...not much value addition.

Part 4 - Security, WSFL, WSIF (based on IBM Specs) currently these specs are obsolete no further releases.

It might've been a good book during 2002. The code and content needs an update to the latest specs and SOAP implementations.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good introduction even to some less talked about topics
It is a good introductory book to web services standards like SOAP, WSDL and UDDI but also goes further and talks about topics like WSFL, WSIF which are not covered by all books on web services but are essential to any real business processes exposed as web services where flow control and service unit(s) choreagraphy is as important as the single unit service request/response. Java specifications relating to web services are also covered like JAXM and JAX-RPC. I wish more examples and code was given, perhaps even a chapter or two, for ebXML which may not be a part of web services standards but still uses SOAP and defines industry standards for business to business collaborations especially dealing with supply chain commerce issues.
I agree with a previous reviewer (John Sfikas) that this book alone isn't exactly an eye opener for experianced professionals who have been dabbling with all the tools mentioned in this book like Apache SOAP, Axis, WSTK, Tomcat, Jetty etc. and know the challenges facing B2B collaborations on the internet quite intimately, but this book combined with "Building Web Services with Java: Making Sense of XML, SOAP, WSDL and UDDI" will give a much needed practical grounding to start making sophisticated web services in the real world. I highly recommend getting both these books but be prepared to use your brain and further what is presented in these books to deploy web services satisfying your needs. They will certainly not amount to spoon feeding you a near solution to your collaboration problems. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference book for pain medicine
This a very good book for a quik reading of the cuurent knowledge of the main topics in pain medicine.Easy to read.Right to the points.I love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference for Pain Boards Review
My specialty is PM&R. I used this book to prepare for my ABPM Board Examination. I used it to complement a Pain Boards Review Course (designed mostly for anesthesiologists) that I took 6 months prior to the exam. I found myself being able to read about 75% of this book almost without noticing. It is concise, clear, and has most of the information required for the Pain Board exam I took. Great images and fairly comprehensive. I was able to review and understand topics covered in the Board Review course that were not very familiar to me.This is a good buy, for Board Exam reviews, and as a reference! I felt comfortable with the exam and I PASSED!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
I am a doctoral student completing my PhD in Health Psychology and this book was recommended by a friend who is an MD and pain specialist. It truly is everything you always wanted to know about pain but did not know enough to ask. I just completed my term in Biopsychology and it was an excellent resouse in addition to my required textbooks. I know I will use this book for many years to come as I complete my degee and beyond. I consider it an essential part of my professional library.
