Excerpt: Your Songs is a studio album by American multi-platinum selling recording artist Harry Connick, Jr., released by Columbia Records. It was released first in the United States on a 2 disc limited edition vinyl LP on August 25, 2009, then released on CD on September 22. The album is a collaboration with Connick and record producer Clive Davis. Most of the songs are chosen by record producer Clive Davis, who aimed towards classic, familiar songs, as contemporary as possible. Davis had expressed an interest in working with Connick, who at first did not know what that meant, as he had never done such a collaboration before. Connick had an idea of bringing in a famous arranger for the album, but Davis suggested for Connick to do the arrangements himself, and he did. The finished arrangements however is influenced by Davis. The song "Bésame Mucho" was suggested for the album by Connick's father, the previous district attorney of the Parish of Orleans, Harry Connick, Sr.. Father and son has previously sung a duet on Sr.'s 1998 album release New Orleans......http://booksllc.net/?id=23793860 ... Read more

Excerpt: Leon Bismark "Bix" Beiderbecke (March 10, 1903 August 6, 1931) was an American jazz cornetist, jazz pianist, and composer. With Louis Armstrong, Beiderbecke was one of the two most influential jazz soloists of the 1920s. His turns on "Singin' the Blues" (1927) and "I'm Coming, Virginia" (1927), in particular, demonstrated an unusual purity of tone and a gift for improvisation. They helped to invent the jazz ballad style and hinted at what, in the 1950s, would become cool jazz. "In a Mist" (1927), one of a handful of his piano compositions but the only one he recorded, mixed classical influences with jazz syncopation; its complex harmonic structure served as a preview of the bebop revolution. Beiderbecke has also been credited for his influence, directly, on Bing Crosby and, indirectly, on Lester Young. A native of Davenport, Iowa, Beiderbecke taught himself to play cornet largely by ear, leading him to adopt a non-standard fingering that some critics have connected to his original sound. He first recorded...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=41535 ... Read more

Excerpt: The Radiolarian Series is an album project by experimental jazz fusion trio Medeski Martin & Wood released in three installments in 2008-2009. The project is unique among studio albums because, in a reversal of the typical recording process, the band decided to compose and then develop the songs through a series of tours before recording the music in the studio. In early 2008 the band announced on their official website: "Medeski Martin & Wood are planning three tours, plus three albums in 2008. Each tour and subsequent album will consist of all NEW MUSIC. The plan: Write > Tour > Record > Repeat." "The problem with us," keyboardist John Medeski explains, "is that when we record an album, by the time a record company gets it out, weve already been playing the music for six or eight months, and were ready to move on." The three volumes of The Radiolarian Series were first released as three separate albums. The series will also be released as Box Set in 2009. The Radiolarian Series takes its name from radiolarians (also radiolaria), amoeboid protozoa that produce intricate mineral skeletons, typically with a central capsule dividing the cell into inner and outer portions, called endoplasm and ectoplasm. Radiolaria grow their intricately beautiful patterned skel...http://booksllc.net/?id=17930419 ... Read more

Excerpt: Peyton Williams Manning (born March 24, 1976) is an American football quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League. Considered one of the best quarterbacks of all time, he has the record for most NFL MVP awards with four. He was drafted by the Colts as the first overall pick in 1998 after a standout college football career with the Tennessee Volunteers. He is the son of former NFL quarterback Archie Manning and the older brother of current New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning. Manning holds NFL records for consecutive seasons with over 4,000 yards passing and the most total seasons with 4,000 or more yards passing in a career. Manning holds the fourth-highest career passer rating (95.2) behind only Steve Young (96.8), Phillip Rivers (95.8), and Tony Romo (95.6). He is the all-time Colts franchise leader in career wins, career passing yards, pass attempts, pass completions, and passing touchdowns. In 2009, he was listed by The Sporting News as the No. 1 player in the NFL today. Also in 2009, Fox Sports named him player of the decade. Since the Colts drafted Manning in 1998, the team has the highest conversion rate on 3rd down (44.6%) and 4th down (61.1%) plays in the NFL. While leading the Colts to their Super Bowl XLI victory in 2007, Manning helped the team to an NFL record by converting 56.1% of its 3rd downs. Excerpt: Elvis Aaron (or Aron ) Presley (January 8, 1935 August 16, 1977) was one of the most popular American singers of the 20th century. A cultural icon, he is widely known by the single name Elvis. He is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King". Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, Presley moved to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family at the age of 13. He began his career there in 1954 when Sun Records owner Sam Phillips, eager to bring the sound of African American music to a wider audience, saw in Presley the means to realize his ambition. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was one of the originators of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country and rhythm and blues. RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who would manage the singer for over two decades. Presley's first RCA single, "Heartbreak Hotel", released in January 1956, was a number one hit. He became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll with a series of network television appearances and chart-topping records. His energized interpretations of songs, many from African American sources, and his uninhibited performance style made him enormously popul...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=9288 ... Read more
