Product Description
In six essays written especially for this volume, The Godfather trilogy is reexamined from a variety of perspectives. Providing original analyses on the form and significance of Coppola's achievement, they demonstrate how the filmmaker revised the conventions of the American crime film in the Vietnam era, his treatment of the capitalism of the criminal underworld and its inherent violence, the power struggles within Hollywood over the film, and the contribution of opera to the epic force and cinematic style of Coppola's vision of an American criminal dynasty. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Just when you think you've read the dumbest review.....
I find it striking that there are so many dumb people in the world. Like the person who wrote the review of this book and said "it's better than The Godfather...Mario Puzzo does an excellent job"! First, Editors Nick Browne & Horton Andrew wrote this book -- NOT MARIO PUZZO! Secondly, it analyzes the trilogy -- it's not an addition to the trilogy -- and thirdly, quit writing reviews about stuff you don't know. That's something I cannot understand, you write about something you know nothing about!

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I could not stop turning the pages! I read & re-read the book, and I am still completly compelled with the Godfather! Much better than the movies! This is simply one of the best novels that has ever been written. It can hold its own among some of the greatest writers in history. Truly the defining novel of its genre. Mario Puzo has written the perfect novel and I for one will never forget his work. ... Read more

Product Description
Which is more important, the coffee you drink or the cup you drink it from? The choice is a difficult one for any aesthete to make, and it is only highlighted and intensified by famed Italian coffeemaker illycaffé, which, since 1933, has been producing one of the world's greatest espressos, and which, since 1992, has been commissioning limited-edition coffee cup designs from internationally renowned and emerging artists, musicians, and filmmakers. If the story of the coffee begins with Francesco Illy in Trieste, the story of the cup begins in 1990 with architect and engineer Matteo Thun, who designed a white espresso cup to the exacting specifications of the Illy family. The volume and diameter had to be just so, the rim had to accept resting lips in a most practical manner, and the all-important bowl at the bottom of the cup had to conserve heat effectively. Once the prototype was approved, the family set about having it transformed with original work by the likes of Sandro Chia, Nam June Paik, James Rosenquist, Robert Rauschenberg, David Byrne, Francis Ford Coppola, Joseph Kosuth, Jeff Koons, Marina Abramovic, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Michel Comte, Jannis Kounellis, and Louise Bourgeois. Good to the last drop--unless coffee isn't your cup of tea.
Features cups by Joseph Kosuth, Robert Rauschenberg, Hannah Anderson, Mario Giacomelli, Andrea Illy, Matteo Thun, Achille Bonito Oliva, Louise Bourgeois, Mimmo Paladino, Ernesto Illy, Francis Ford Coppola, Jeff Koons, Neil Aitken, Jannis Kounellis, and Michel Comte amongst others.

Essays by Achille Bonito Oliva, Matteo Thun, Francesco Illy and Andrea Illy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Pictures only with no content issues.
The title of this book is really appealing, but I found this book to be a superficial coffee table book. There is no thought provoking commentary or essay which could place the "cup" within a social context or place the cup with a material culture.

The color prints are on matt paper which makes the images seem a little dull and fuzzy. Not one cups seems to jump off the page and into my memory.

Adding to my disappointment is that every cup appears to be the same size and shape. The decoration or embellishment on the cups is only on the surface. It seems that the artists, writer, musicians, architects, etc., that are featured in the book, were only asked to offer a graphic design to a standard demitasse cup. Why couldn't they change the shape or form of the cup?
How disappointing! The idea behind the book is great, the execution is boring and limited.

I would not recommend buying this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must for any ILLY COLLECTION fan.
Illy to some is the best coffee in the world, I can't say that since I have not tasted them all but I do love Illy, especially their espresso pods, but Illy is more than just coffee, they represent the most advanced and yet the most simple of pleasures... and their cupembodies that. This book is all about that, It covers the creation and a good decade's worth of artisitic varatations on the Illy cup.

I have been bitten by the Illy Collection bug and own a few of the sets, it's nice to have this book as a guide to the "expensive" past. The only problem is that the collection is only through 2003, so it is missing the 2004/2005 cups. Espresso has never been so stylish! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bram Sotker's Dracula
The film, Bram Stoker's Dracula, is a wonderful adaptation of Bram Stoker's book. The film follows the book almost faithfully and is fast paced and gripping. This book is a must-have for Dracula fans; and I recommend another book, The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, that, by its title, would not lead a Dracula fan to read it. But, by all means, I highly recommend it and you will not be able to put the book down. The Historian will sweep you off of your feet with its well documented Dracula story.

4-0 out of 5 stars school review
The book Dracula is a great book, it is a clasic novel that every person should read evin if they dont like the whole gothic sean. The book keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time you cant even put it down to go pee its so good, I figured it would be just a nother rip off of some stupid movie that someone wrote but this book is where all the vampire novels came from, this is the fother of all vampire novels and it is the best.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of My Favorites
Yes, it is slightly campy and overacted but it was a genuine reproduction of the book - only better. The mood, the story, the characters, the castle, I liked it all.

This Dracula is not the violent, blood-thirsty monster featured in so many of these types of movies. Instead, Gary Oldham (what a selection!) is the dark, sensuous eternal phantom, at once mesmerizing and intoxicating. The trick of using a diary is especially effective in this case in that it gives the story some structure. Even Keanu Reeves was good as the helpless husband.

4-0 out of 5 stars Nice coverage on the legend behind Dracula and the movie
I think this book is a must for fans of horror films and artsy movies. This Dracula is an artistic venture into the horror genre, most notorious for its gore and guts aspects. I like the photographs and the conceptual designs being put into the movie. ... Read more
