***** Highly Recommended
Review by Douglas Quinn, Author of Blue Heron Marsh, etal

From the very first page I said to myself, "This author can really write," and throughout the novel I wasn't let down. I was immediately drawn in by Mark Terry's pacing and his wry sense of humor, which he weaves into his snappy dialogue and descriptive tapestry.

At first, when the main character was introduced, I was a little put off by how quickly he caved in about getting involved with the case,a serin gas attack-he had other, more important plans-but, hey, Terry is offering a fast-paced thriller here and there is no time for our unconventional hero, Derek Stillwater, to agonize.

As for Derek Stillwater, you've gotta love the guy. He's cranky and impatient and acts on impulses about which the rest of us only fantasize. His foisted-upon-him sidekick, FBI agent Jill Church, is cool, pragmatic and likeable. Jill's teen-aged son Michael is woven nicely into the story, including the exciting climax. Her politically connected boss, Matt Gray, is the perfect foil for both Church and Stillwater. Their antagonist, The Serpent, is diabolical and pure evil. There are many twists and turns and the ending has a nice little surprise that cleverly sets up the next Derek Stillwater novel.

Mark Terry baits his hook, casts it out into the world of the unsuspecting reader and, if you are one of the lucky ones who takes the bait and reads The Serpent's Kiss, you will be glad he reeled you in. Set in Detroit, the pace of The Serpent's Kiss is fast and furious. It's a Derek Thrillwater of a read.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Terror never stops!
The FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) and DHS (Department of Homeland Security) are at odds in the persons of Jill Church and Derek Stillwater.Derek always rubs everyone the wrong way.Jill is ordered to keep him in the dark and out of the way.If you've read any Derek Stillwater novels, you know that isn't going to work.Instead Jill becomes embroiled in Derek's unorthodox methods, and she finds herself on the wrong side of her boss, again. But does that matter when there's a terrorist, The Serpent, out there killing people with imprudence? And each time he strikes, its at a larger target.

The action never stops, and neither do the surprises. The reader will find a lot to like in Derek Stillwater, and a lot to dislike in those who try to keep him down.

There's a killer in Detroit using sarin gas to kill as many people as he can.Homeland Security Agent Dr. Derek Stillwater is trying to stop him before he kills again. It's going to be a difficult task to say the least, especially with the FBI trying to babysit him.

If you like thrillers with independent tough guy agents out to get the job done, you'll like this one.I enjoyed reading it and can't wait for the sequel.

For more than 30 years Derek Humphry has trail-blazed the right to die movement in America and the world. He founded the Hemlock Society USA, pioneered the Oregon Death With Dignity Act and wrote the bestselling books Jean’s Way and Final Exit. To know why he has maintained this struggle for choice in dying against powerful religious and political forces it is necessary to understand the whole man. In this candid memoir (a paperback and eBook original) he tells of his broken family, wartime experiences as a boy in England, and rising from the lowest to the highest rungs of journalism on two continents. He tells the moving story of his first wife’s terminal cancer and her way of ending it by assisted suicide which later became the model for the Oregon law. Painful episodes from his second marriage and the much publicized divorce are frankly detailed. Today Derek Humphry is regarded as the grand old man of a euthanasia movement in which he remains deeply involved. A dual citizen of the USA and the UK, he has lived in Oregon for 22 years.

Product Description

Best known as an iconoclastic, wildly inventive filmmaker, Derek Jarman was also an accomplished author, painter, and landscape artist. In Derek Jarman's Angelic Conversations, Jim Ellis considers Jarman's wide-ranging oeuvre to present a broad perspective on the career and life of one of the most provocative, engaged, and important artists of the twentieth century.

Derek Jarman's Angelic Conversations analyzes Jarman's work-including his famous films Caravaggio, Jubilee, Edward II, Blue, and Sebastiane-in relation to his critiques of the government and his activism in the gay community, from the liberationist movement to the AIDS epidemic. While others have frequently focused on Jarman's biography, Ellis looks at how his politics and aesthetics are intertwined to comprehend his most radical aspects, particularly in films such as War Requiem and The Last of England.

Here Jarman is revealed as an artist who keenly understood the role of history and mythology in creating a personal and national identity: as an activist, he sought to challenge old histories while producing new ones to carve out a space for alternative communities in Britain late in the twentieth century.

A Career and a Life

Amos Lassen

None of us can dispute the role Derek Jarman played in the development of the new queer cinema. In this study Jim Ellis looks at Jarman's work and his life. The book analyzes his most famous films as they stand with relation to the government and how they relate to Jarman's activism. He shows how Jarman melded aesthetics and politics to give us some of the most iconic films of the new queer cinema. Jarman was well aware of and understood the role of history and mythology and he used them to create his own personal as well as a national identity. He challenged history and, in turn, presented a new one which included a place for the alternatives such as the queer population. The book is a fascinating study of the man and his oeuvre and we get a look at one of Great Britain's most controversial directors. This is a book that every Jarman fan wants to read as well as should anyone who is interested in queer cinema. ... Read more

The other reviewers are right.Routledge is shirking it's responsibilities by denying the book to those of us who can't afford it.

1-0 out of 5 stars The Price is Wrong!
$52.00 for a Kindle version of this book is just WRONG.There is no paper. There is no stocking fee. There is no handling.I will not pay $52.00 for someones opinion of a book and if you do not have a Kindle and are paying over $100.00 you are out of your mind!

1-0 out of 5 stars Routledge should be ashamed of the price
This appears to be an important book about a fascinating poem. But the price, $75 for a short book, is an insult to people who love poetry. It assumes that only academics or people who have access to a university library should be able to read this book. I am going to avoid buying books from Routledge as much as possible until they rethink their pricing.

I hope the author continues to work and finds a new publisher, one that will price books so that the general public can buy them.

Omeros itself is a wonderfully deep and constantly changing poem, worth rereading. ... Read more

"I just don't understand it. Sometimes it feels like there's energy all around me -- inside -- and I'm almost sure it's got to be the magic."

Fifteen-year-old Jaren Haldannon thinks he feels the call of metanduil, a special metal that enables sorcerers to wield magic. Despite his best efforts, though, he cannot find any evidence of an ability to use magic-metal. It is his older sister, Morgaine, who lays claim to this power -- so great is her potential that dark forces seek to capture her. To elude them, Jaren and Morgaine must flee their village.

The journey thrusts Jaren onto a path of self-discovery. For, although he cannot wield magic as others do, his is an even greater power, one unheard of except in obscure legends of old. Product Description
Little Boy Wild was a small boy who did not have permission to be alive, and this is his epic real-life journey as an abused child in search for himself. It is fearless, hauntingly beautiful, and sometimes disturbing. Whenever he can, he lives wild with the animals - his only true friends, while he seeks to avoid the "Humans" who may cause him to "opt out" and hide far within himself. It is rare for a work of this magnitude to appear on the literary scene, but in spite of all the hurt involved, Little Boy Wild moves forward in his quest for self-identity and love with hurtful self-searching honesty.

Wild Boy's personas are deeply split and fragmented. His adventures may well come across like the reading of a psychiatrist's highly confidential doctor-patient journal of record - all wrapped up in hilarious humour and rollicking fun!

His psyche switches between two major personalities, plus the Preacher and the Move Director. Frequently he sees Little Boy Wild "outside of himself." He is also psycho-sexually warped and is unsure as to whether he is gay or not. Eventually he blows his mind apart with LSD, but in the final analysis - out of all the hell of psychosis, something very beautiful occurs.

Little Boy Wild and I struggled "Phoenix-like" throughout our tragic childhood and turbulent teens, to an adult life under the guise of"normalcy." We later discovered that we were gifted the pain of emotional and physical torture, in order to become an entity of extraordinary resilience and strength. This now enables us to see with eyes that know the unknowable, and to understand that which others can only approach as a frontier to be explored.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent bio-terror thriller!
I'm a reader, not a writer, so please excuse the review. I don't write many of them, but wanted to make sure and write one for The Devil's Pitchfork. It was a fast-paced, well-written, and apparently well-researched thriller! I have already purchased the next Derek Stillwater novel and look forward to reading it soon.

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a great biological techno-thriller.
It deserves four and a half stars.I can't give it five, because it has two instances of an important character's last name showing up with the wrong first name, and I find that annoying. It means the author was writing at high speed, and the editor was not doing his or her job very well. The plot was good and kept me wanting to keep reading instead of turning in for the night. The characters were a wee bit thin, but the good guys were clearly good, and you hated the bad guys.I'll be buying and reading the rest of Mr. Terry's output, and if you like suspenseful techno-thrillers, I can recommend The Devil's Pitchfork to you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Action Packed
From the first page of the first chapter, this book starts moving with action and suspense and doesn't let up.I coudn't wait to get to the next page.If you like Jack Ryan or Jason Bourne, you will love this book.Derek Stillwater is a reluctant hero.He just wants to do his job, but his natural curiosty, the way his mind works and his need to make things right pull him further into intrigue even against his will.I loved this book and can't wait to read the next.I couldn't help thinking this book was a modern day Three Days Of The Condor.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great ride!
I love a good techno-thriller, and I'm thrilled (pun intended) that there's a new writer who can match the talents of all my favorites. Terry obviously has in-depth knowledge of chemical-biological warfare, and he has us believing that the scenario in Pitchfork is real possibility. The hero, Derek Stillwater, is a step above other thriller heros because he has a human side, not the perfect world saving robot that other authors use. I highly recommend this book to any thriller fan. You may never open a can of Coke again!

5-0 out of 5 stars Action, Mystery, Great characters
I loved this book! I was hooked from the start. There's a lot of action and also a lot of mystery. The thing that sets this book apart from others is that there is always a surprise waiting around the corner. ... Read more
