Excerpt:Senior club appearances and goalscounted for the domestic league only.* Appearances (Goals) Bartholomew Bertie or Bart McGhee (April 30, 1899 at Edinburgh, Scotland January 26, 1979 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) was an American soccer forward who typically played left wing forward. He played for the United States men's national soccer team at the 1930 FIFA World Cup, and scored the second goal in World Cup history against Belgium. He was inducted into the U.S. National Soccer Hall of Fame in 1986. McGhee was the son of former Hibernian player and Heart of Midlothian manager James McGhee, and the brother of Philadelphia Field Club forward Jimmy McGhee. McGhees father was a renowned Scottish player who appeared with Scotland in an 1886 game with Wales. McGhees father had a controversial term as the manager of Hearts. When he finally resigned on December 6, 1909, he began assessing his options. In September 1910 he decided to leave Scotland and emigrate to the United States. It took Jimmy McGhee two years to get settled and it was not until 1912 that McGhee, his mother and younger brother Jimmy joined his father in the U.S. When they arrived in the U.S., the family settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When he was nineteen, McGhee began playing for New York Shipbuilding, located in Camden, New Jersey, of the South Jersey League. The next season, he moved to Wolfenden Shore, of the Allied American Football Association; playing with them until at least March 1921 when he was on trial with Bethlehem Steel F.C. before moving to Philadelphia Hibernian of the National Soccer League of Philadelphia. He played with them...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=7313314 ... Read more

Product Description
This exciting collection gives a whole new meaning to "beach reading."Paired with some of the most exciting contemporary photographs of the male nude are reflections paying homage to the beauty, sensuality, and raw masculinity of men by celebrated writers including Quentin Crisp, Brad Gooch, Alan Helms, Mary Ellen Hannibal, Paul Roche, and David Leddick.

Hot off the beaches of Miami, the book features fresh photography from some well-known artists as well as exciting newcomers, including Ali, Salvatore Baiano, Andy Devine, and Dianora Niccolini.

Divided thematically into chapters like Men on the Beach, Men in the Surf, Men Cooling Off, and Men in the Shade, this celebration of men sans clothes al fresco is a treasure for those who like to look at some good, fresh flesh. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A Hopeless Mess
This little gimmick of book, a small paperback, is totally unorganized, with phony section titles imposed on random photos, so that we have "Men in the Sun," "Men Cooling Off," "Men in theWater," etc. The actual photos in those different sections proveunderwhelming vis-a-vis these grandiose designations. Whoever rushed to getthis book out would have done better just to present the photoscontiguously, but that would have denied the opportunity to use two fillerpages per section. It took me about five minutes to flip through and get asense of all of the photos in this little pamphlet of a book.

The"literary" selections are gratuitous, adding nothing to ourappreciation of the photographs and usually having nothing to do with them. For example, the author has reprinted at length the opening vignette fromBrad Gooch's novel Scary Kisses, which is kind of sexy on its own but whoseonly apparent criteria for inclusion in this volume are its homoeroticismand the coincidence that it takes place -in the sun! So, too, with theother literary paraphernalia. It's filler.

Worst of all, the photosthemselves aren't even erotic or sexy. I know, this is a subjectiveobservation, and I admit that a few of the individual photos are morenuanced, or provocative, or more sophisticated than others. But for themost part, the photos are artless and tacky, as when a jet of water is usedto camouflage the buttocks of a presumably nude man darting out of aswimming pool. That kind of thing belongs on a postcard for Miami Beach. Asfor the men themselves, this little collection presents a broad range frompretty boy models to bald weight lifter types to African Americans and evena baby for good measure. The overall effect is of schizophrenia, notserendipity, and instead of finding something to celebrate in diversity, this book merely finds chaos.

You can do better with your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars SOME LIKE THEM
Most of male photograph books nowadays are neither sensual nor aesthetical. But some pictures of this book are nice and erotic , especially p.73-77.Some like them. If I could select male nudes photos, Iwould afford better or maybe the best album. ... Read more

Excerpt: Richard "Dick" Larkins (April 19, 1909 April 7, 1977) was the athletic director at the Ohio State University from 1947 to 1970. Larkins also played tackle for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team in the 1910s and served on the Ohio State faculty as a professor of physical education. In one of his first acts as Ohio State athletic director, Larkins hired his old teammate, Wes Fesler, to take over as Ohio State's football coach. Larkins also became involved in a public feud with legendary coach Paul Brown in 1948. A story in the Minneapolis Times quoted Larkins as saying: "Brown has started a terrific drive in Columbus and all around Ohio to return as football coach at Ohio State. Brown is not happy in the pro atmosphere. He has a good bank account and wants to coach college kids again." Larkins was also quoted as saying that Brown has been "stealing football players off our campus by the dozen" and that Brown had "done everything in his power to hurt Ohio State." Brown accused Larkins of conducting a smear campaign, and Larkins claimed he had been mis-quoted. He is also remembered as the Ohio State athletic director who made the decision to proceed with the historic Snow Bowl game against Michigan in 1950. Despite extraordinarily inclement weather, Larkins decided to play the game "due to the number of people who attended, and the mess it would have created to refund the tickets." Ohio State lost the game 9-3. Larkins drew national media attention for his comments in 1951 criticizing big-time college football as a Frankenstein monster. In the remarks, Larkins said: "Football is being ruined. It's getting completely out of hand. It's a Frankenstein,...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=18436155 ... Read more
